00:00I think the vibe should still be good with Todd Munkin. I do. And here's the thing. I don't want
00:06to just say, hey, when he surprises you and as a seven or eight win team this year, you're going
00:10to be back on Munkin land. I don't want to do that because I don't know seven or eight wins
00:16gets people back on board with Todd Munkin. I don't know that it does either. But as of right
00:20now, we basically have one real decision that we can put at the feet of Todd Munkin. And it was
00:25just a disastrously wrong one. And so I understand it. If fans right now are skeptical, I get
00:31it. Now, again, the cool thing about this for Todd Munkin is he's going to have games that
00:34will be played and he'll have a chance to rewrite some people's opinions on this. I mean, imagine
00:38the love that he would get if he somehow fixed Deshaun Watson. It would be incredible. People
00:42would look at him like he, Jesus walks on water, could do anything. I think he's going to get
00:46a lot more credit outside of Cleveland for fixing Deshaun than in Cleveland. Oh, you fix
00:51Deshaun Watson. You're getting credit everywhere. Can you define fixing Deshaun Watson? That
00:54credit bucket will be dumped on your front lawn. If you get him to look like a top 15 player
00:59in
00:59the NFL again, people will act as if Todd Munkin's a quarterback whisperer. What's the, what's the
01:03record? I got to know all the particulars here. You know, I don't care about records when it comes
01:08to quarterbacks. Okay, but if you're six and 11 and Deshaun Watson looks like the 15th best
01:12quarterback, I think people are going to be like, I would rather would have gone six and 11 with
01:15Chador. You can have all sorts of different ways of looking at a win loss record, whether a
01:20quarterback did or didn't perform. If we're talking Deshaun exclusively, we're talking Deshaun
01:24an answer. I get it. Not really. It's just, I need more context than what you're giving
01:27me. No, I'm saying I need more context. You can't context my context request. I don't
01:32even know what you're talking about at this point. The point is, is that if he, if he
01:36fixes Deshaun Watson, he's going to have a bunch of people lining up to be like Monk
01:40in the Maximizer, Trustin' Todd, all these, these fun sayings that you keep throwing around,
01:44they're going to be lined up. You'll be the first to the moon. People are like, where do we
01:48buy the Monk in the Maximizer t-shirts? And I'm not going to get any percentage of
01:52that. Where am I buying the Trustin' Todd t-shirts? Where does it happen? How do I
01:56do that? And again, it's Trustin' Todd, man. Is that what it's always been? No, I added
02:01demand. You made a change to the back end of that. Yeah, because I'm a Trustin' Todd,
02:04man. All right. I just, you know, I just, this is how this is going to go. But the sad
02:09part for right now is we have, again, no games. We have one decision, one massive decision
02:14at the feet of Munkin, and that decision right now is universally considered to be the wrong
02:19one. Now, that being said, we talked about Kat Hickman, who was Browns' assistant GM,
02:26who spoke to the media today, and she was asked if the Browns received trade offers for quarterbacks.
02:31Did the Browns receive any trade offers for quarterbacks?
02:38Not that I will comment on. All right, now, we could have done that a little bit better
02:45because she did follow up that that is an Andrew Barry question, and there is nothing funnier to me
02:52than an organization who pretty routinely, somebody will be on the dais, and it's like,
02:58well, that's more of a Todd question. Todd, I think that's more of a Jimmy question. Jimmy,
03:02I think that's more of a Kat Hickman question.
03:03We just passed the blame around.
03:04How has no one asked Rudy yet? It is one thing that they do, and I understand what they're doing
03:11because this is a very segmented organization, and everybody has a role, and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
03:17But also, that was a great answer.
03:19Well, she knows. She can't really tell us that, yeah, seven teams have called for Shador Sanders.
03:25When would you ever hear that in a press conference?
03:27I want to know how many teams called for DG. A little dilly bar. Come on now.
03:31How many do you think?
03:33One or two. I think one or two teams called about Dillon. One or two teams called about Shador.
03:40And I don't think any teams called about Taylor and Green.
03:43I actually asked this on TikTok. Nick Talk, Nick Wilson says, by the way.
03:48Because I was like, set a price for each one of those players, like a hypothetical price.
03:52Sure.
03:52I had multiple people say, Taylor and Green's off the board.
03:56And I was like, I can't do this. I just can't.
03:59People, he's the new DTR is what he is.
04:02People just love him and what they've seen in the preseason and little bits here.
04:05Now, obviously very different skill sets, but people talked about DTR as if he was the
04:08greatest quarterback in the world.
04:10And then when you finally got to see him play after two years, it was like, oh, that's what
04:14we should have seen coming.
04:15I just think the idea that if you have to say the phrase, if he could just figure out how
04:20to throw, he'd be a great quarterback.
04:24When throwing is the name of the game?
04:25When that is the thing that is like, you know, number one with a bullet.
04:29It's like, if only he could catch.
04:30And it's like, but hold on.
04:31You're a wide receiver.
04:33That is job number one in the description.
04:34We've even muddied that conversation up.
04:36And I blame coach, coach Riz on that one.
04:39Oh, coach Riz taking some blame.
04:40Their concentration that you can coach that out.
04:42I'm not saying he's wrong, by the way.
04:44But the amount of people when I, the other day, again, saying a nice thing about Casey
04:48Concepcion.
04:49I just like the kid.
04:50I hope he figures out the drops.
04:52What drops?
04:53What drops?
04:53It's like, all right, I'm done.
04:54It's just a little odd.
04:56It always, it feels like if you have a restaurant and the name of the restaurant is Nick's Hamburgers.
04:59And then you walk inside and they're like, so what's good here?
05:01I'd get the hot dog.
05:03Anything but the hamburger.
05:05I'd maybe try the soup.
05:05I'd maybe try the salad.
05:07Salad's always good here.
05:08It's like, what are we selling?
05:09But I do think people, at least teams, called about Chador.
05:13I think teams called about Dylan.
05:15I would imagine teams even called about Taylor.
05:17You have to be crazy to think that there isn't a team across, one team across the NFL that wasn't
05:22at least interested to find out if a bag of footballs could get Chador Sanders?
05:26Yeah, my hottest take is that the price on Chador or Dylan, I'm not going to say Talon,
05:32but those two quarterbacks should have been sky high.
05:36I think there was this idea, if you can get anything for Dylan or anything for Chador,
05:40you should get it.
05:41And it's like, no, you still have to play this year.
05:44So, like, I don't know what a fifth and a fourth swap gets you for either Chador or Dylan Gabriel
05:53when you still have a chance that either one of those guys, hypothetically,
05:56and I know it's a big hypo-hypo-hypothetical,
05:59but either one of those guys could actually produce in the system and play meaningful football for you this year.
06:04Yeah, it's just more worth it to find out for yourself instead of letting another team find out,
06:08especially with, and I know people are like, oh, it's not that big of an investment.
06:11You have invested a lot of time and resources into these guys already.
06:14Also, they're controllable quarterbacks who could end up being the bridge quarterback to your starter,
06:20and I don't want to have to go pay Geno Smith, and I'm just throwing a name out,
06:25he won't be the guy, but $18 million next offseason because, oh, you traded Chador and Deshaun,
06:32or sorry, Freudian, Chador and Dylan because, well, you upgraded a sixth-round pick to a fifth-round pick.
06:39Yeah, in many respects, after they find out what happens with Deshaun Watson,
06:42if he can be the version he was in Houston or not,
06:45the goal of the season then is to find out if one of these quarterbacks can be the guy that
06:49bridges the 2027 QB1.
06:52That's the major goal.
06:54The win there is if they can showcase that you can still develop these wide receivers,
06:57develop the tight ends, develop everyone while having somebody that's good enough to do so.
07:01So that was an interesting, probably the most interesting quote coming out of Berea today.
07:05She just wanted nothing to do with it.
07:06It just evaded it, right?
07:08I don't blame her.
07:09Neither do I.
07:10I don't blame her.
07:10And in fairness, it actually is an Andrew Barry question.
07:13Yeah, I mean, it would be a little bit of steel in the spotlight,
07:16but also maybe speaking out of turn if she was like, yeah, so the Vikings, the Cardinals, the Bears,
07:21they all called.
07:22Or a lot of people called.
07:23Even anything other than...
07:24No, you don't tell us this.
07:26Even just, we got a lot of calls for a lot of our quarterbacks.
07:29It just opens up something that Andrew Barry then has to answer for.
07:32It seemed like she was surprised she got the question.
07:35Which I don't understand being surprised by questions in press conferences,
07:39because that's kind of the delio, but there were a couple of questions today that seemed surprised by it.
07:44The long pause and the uh just tells me that she was caught a little off guard,
07:47that that was one of the questions that she was given.
07:49And yet no one can ask what really happened between Quinshawn Judkins and Mike Hall Jr.
07:54I'm not talking about on the field, folks.
07:55Now, all this being said, we're talking about Monk and the Maximizer,
07:58trust in Todd, man.
08:01And while we have that, CBS Sports gave the Browns a D grade in the preseason.
08:07And I actually...
08:10I actually do take umbrage to this, because it said,
08:13Cleveland has fascinating pieces everywhere,
08:15but this comes down to a lackluster quarterback battle.
08:18And it's like, oh, so nothing could have actually happened to change your grade.
08:23You came in thinking the best they can do is a D in the preseason because of the quarterback spot,
08:28which that feels more like an off-season grade than a preseason grade.
08:32Yeah, was the grade based off of just giving Deshaun the job at the end of this?
08:34Is that what that is based off of?
08:36Or is it more how, like, the camp was held?
08:37Because there's not an NFL person that goes to these, like, a lot of camps.
08:42Albert Breer, I'm thinking of.
08:44I'm thinking of our guy Ben Solak.
08:46Like, these guys that, like, came and were around us,
08:48that said anything bad about how the Browns' camp was actually run.
08:51So, I think it was their perception that neither Deshaun nor Shador really took the job,
08:57and then it was just like, well, you've got to name somebody the starting quarterback.
09:00That's not really Munkin's fault.
09:02That's, well, isn't that the exact point that I started the show with?
09:06Like, Todd Munkin couldn't help the ingredients.
09:08He just had to make a dish.
09:10So, why am I punishing him for?
09:12Well, we're punishing him because he's acting as if the ingredient is filet mignon.
09:14He's acting as if this is the greatest, we gave him everything possible to make a five-star meal.
09:21Well, but what's he supposed to say about the ingredients?
09:24These suck and I'm doing the best I can?
09:26I think he is going a little overboard in some of the praise, the effusive praise that I think he
09:30feels necessary.
09:31Isn't that semantics, though?
09:33Oh, if he just took 10% off the Deshaun hype, I'd feel better about Todd Munkin.
09:38No, no, no.
09:38Isn't that nitpicking?
09:39The decision still falls in the idea that he made a decision and he went with the guy that universally
09:43is not perceived to be the right answer or the right guy should be starting in week one.
09:48I mean, there's so many football reasons for why you would make a decision to start Shador, but there's also
09:52so many logical, sensical reasons that, yes, we do get to question and be like, how did you get to
09:56this conclusion?
09:57And why are you defending it as hard as you are?
10:00I think in the same way that you can say Deshaun Watson will inform what the preseason camp grade should
10:06have been by how he plays week one, I feel pretty confident that they're going to come out and play
10:12reasonably good football minus the quarterback week one.
10:15And because I think we saw a lot of really competent practices, a lot of very competitive practices, I think
10:22one of the things, and I understand that there's a pro side of Camp Cupcake with Coach Kev, but to
10:28me, the biggest downside is you don't get your team ready for week one if it's not a competitive camp.
10:34And when I say get ready, I mean just to be competitive.
10:37I'm thinking of the Dallas game a couple years ago where, again, we were talking playoffs, and they got boat
10:43raced by what ended up being a decent Dallas team, but still not a Super Bowl champion Dallas team.
10:50I think they're going to be able to show up and be competitive week one simply because Todd Munkin ran
10:55a legit let's get ready for week one camp.
10:59I think that in and of itself is something different and something I appreciate in the way I think camp
11:04should be run.
11:05Yeah, but that's something that this article can't prove yet.
11:07They can't tell you that for certain we're going to come out.
11:10They should have called me.
11:11I could have told them.
11:12And they would have taken that advice, I'm sure.
11:14Did they call?
11:15Who was the guy that wrote the thing?
11:18Every once in a while, there's just a new CBS sports reporter.
11:20I'm like, I've never heard of this person before.
11:21They go through a lot of guys.
11:23Oh, it's Claude Saperstein.
11:24You don't know Claude?
11:25Classic Claude.
11:26Yeah, Dartmouth guy.
11:27Yeah, I'm like, is Claude real?
11:30Is it just the AI bot Claude?
11:32Is that really what this is?
11:33You just added Saperstein at the end?
11:34Half the time, it's all it is anyway, right?
11:36That's fair.
11:36I mean, that's what this has turned into.
11:38With respect to Sam Quinn and Brad Botkin.
11:40Sam Quinn's always on it, isn't he?
11:41He is.
11:41Sam Quinn pumps out more articles than I think anybody in the history of the internet.
11:45He's a pumper.
11:45That's what they say about Sam.
11:46Classic, classic pumper.
11:48Classic pumper.
11:49Good on Sam Quinn.
11:50Well, I mean, if they lay down and die week one, and then it looks like the practices really weren't
11:55anything,
11:55are you going to write an apology to the bot that served up the CBS Sports article?
11:59Not a chance in hell.
12:00I didn't think you would.
12:00I don't apologize to bots.
12:01No, thanks.
