00:07Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we're taking a look at the hardest bosses Sonic and friends
00:13have ever had to face.
00:27Before we begin, we publish new videos all week long, so be sure to subscribe to MojoPlays
00:32and ring the bell to be notified about our latest videos.
00:36Mega Octus – Sonic Mania
00:39Sonic doesn't tend to be known for its hard bosses. Well, you know, after this list, maybe that's a different
00:46sentiment.
00:46And even now, we'll start off a little light.
00:54You fight Mega Octus at the end of Oil Ocean Zone Act 2, and the primary thing that makes it
01:00annoying is the stage's design.
01:02Your platforms periodically lower into the oil below, and when this happens, you have to keep pressing the jump button
01:09so you don't quickly sink.
01:11Even when you do have stable ground, Mega Octus sets fire to it with a laser or tries to catch
01:17you off guard with multiple other weapons that pop up all over the screen.
01:22Thankfully, when its body is showing, it isn't too hard to get a lot of hits in.
01:30Mecha Sonic – Sonic & Knuckles
01:33Facing Mecha Sonic as Knuckles during the first phase isn't so bad.
01:38You just have to avoid getting run into when he's in his spiked ball form.
01:47The problem comes when he enters his second phase.
01:50Mecha Sonic goes super and begins zipping all over the arena.
01:55The speed can catch you off guard if you aren't careful, sending rings pouring out of poor Knuckles.
02:00Worse is when he starts sending a volley of energy orbs out, which can be tricky to dodge.
02:05Although this is the easier of the two Mecha Sonic fights we'll talk about, it is still a pain.
02:19Egg King – Sonic Rush
02:21Dr. Eggman obviously has a long lineage as a final boss, each time utilizing some crazy gargantuan contraption.
02:30The Egg King of Sonic Rush is no different.
02:38Part of what makes this fight tough is how unpredictable the boss can be.
02:42It can be hard to read where its arms will slam down, and one of those attacks can one-shot
02:47you, regardless of how many rings you have.
02:50Then there are those stupid purple lasers Eggman sends out, which give you little safe space to move in.
02:56It's definitely an overwhelming fight, and it doesn't help that you have to fight it twice, once as Sonic, and
03:02once as Blaze.
03:08Fang Mech Mark II – Sonic Superstars
03:12We'll talk about a few bosses that use one-shot attack, but Fang is one of the more annoying ones.
03:23As Tripp's final boss in Sonic Superstars, Fang the Hunter comes in a two-phase mech fight.
03:29It's another one where the first phase isn't so bad.
03:32Tripp flies his ship around firing missiles, emitting lasers, and dive bombing, most of which is easy to see coming.
03:39But my god.
03:41That second phase.
03:50Fang's mech gets a major upgrade in size and power.
03:53He can send out a bunch of minions, and his cannons kill you instantly.
03:58By far the most irritating tactic is the combination of webs that trap you in place, followed by a one
04:04-shot cannon blast.
04:06And it isn't as if this fight is short.
04:13Egg Viper – Sonic Adventure
04:15As the final boss of Sonic's storyline, Eggman comes with another intimidating machine in Egg Viper.
04:27Egg Viper
04:27Of his many inventions, the Egg Viper is one of the faster ones, both in its own speed and its
04:32attacks.
04:33He spends a lot of the opening of the fight leaping up from below the arena and firing lasers in
04:38quick blasts.
04:39But he'll also fire giant, spinning blades that'll tear the rings right out of you if you aren't quick enough.
04:44Avoiding the attacks requires quick reaction time.
04:47At least Eggman has obvious openings for when you can hit him.
04:51But once the fight is won, the Egg Viper goes out in a kamikaze dive bomb that probably took out
04:57its fair share of players.
05:04The Egg Saucer – Sonic Advance 2
05:08Here we have another boss that has a one-hit kill attack, no matter how many rings you've managed to
05:13collect.
05:14But the Egg Saucer has its own little twist to make it tricky in its own way.
05:24Whether piloted by Knuckles or Eggman, it constantly rolls forward, forcing you to run after it.
05:31But while you're doing so, and trying to deal damage, the Egg Saucer is trying to wallop you with a
05:36gigantic hand.
05:37This is the one-hit kill, and it can be hard to avoid since it's attached to a stretchy arm.
05:43You have to both know when to rush forward, and keep your distance unless you want to start all over.
05:56Giant Eggman Robo – Sonic & Knuckles
05:59Powered by the Master Emerald, Giant Eggman Robo is one of the more intimidating Eggman mechs of the classic era.
06:14Once again, it's a fight whose first phase isn't too hard.
06:18All you have to do is avoid and destroy the mech's fingers, and this lures you into a false sense
06:23of security before it unleashes all hell for the second.
06:27Eggman begins chasing you, firing bursts of flames, and, much worse, a massive blast from the Master Emerald itself, which
06:34can be pretty tough to avoid.
06:36Start landing those attacks quickly, or else it's back to the beginning.
06:39Even though there's one more boss right after this, the final weapon is a fair bit easier.
06:51The End – Sonic Frontiers
06:53No, we didn't accidentally put in footage of Ikaruga, but we can see why you might think that.
07:01Mortal, you have served your purpose.
07:05To even reach this boss and unlock the true ending, you have to first set the game to hard mode,
07:11which should tell you something.
07:13But it'll obviously take a lot of adjustment, going from a 3D platformer to something completely different.
07:19An intense, arcadey shoot-'em-up.
07:21As the end fires dark and light bullets, you can switch your own to destroy them.
07:26Unfortunately, it isn't long before your entire screen is filled with a swarm of gunfire.
07:32As the attacks grow more aggressive, it gets harder and harder to destroy or avoid them.
07:38Only with a lot of very precise movement and a cool head can you come out on top.
07:49Big Egg – Sonic Superstars
08:00The second of the three final bosses we'll talk about from Sonic Superstars,
08:04you can face the Big Egg at the end of the main storyline.
08:07Thankfully, it doesn't have an insta-kill attack like Fang's mech,
08:10but it does have a lot more variety in attacks, and still two phases to try and crush you.
08:16In the first, you'll be doing a lot of dodging, whether it be laser walls, electric orbs, or a hail
08:21of missiles.
08:21In the second phase, you still need precise reaction time to dodge damage, just now while being relentlessly chased,
08:28and with the Big Egg now having doubled the amount of attacks it has.
08:39Perfect Dark Gaia – Sonic Unleashed
08:42Sonic Unleashed ends with both the villain and Sonic transforming,
08:47but despite the power of Super Sonic, Perfect Dark Gaia is a huge final hurdle to overcome.
08:59Part of what makes it a pain is how long and exhausting this fight is, since you fight it directly
09:05after its first form.
09:07You first have to fly through a dense field of floating boulders, and while there are plenty of rings to
09:12collect,
09:12it's hard to avoid taking damage at such high speeds.
09:16Then, while Chip pilots the Gaia Colossus to take on the boss, Sonic works to destroy its shield.
09:22That's easier said than done.
09:24You have to take out giant tendrils that only poke out at certain spots, while still keeping an eye on
09:30both yours and Chip's health bars.
09:38Egg Emperor – Sonic Heroes
09:50Now, we don't expect every Eggman boss fight to be a breeze, necessarily.
09:54On the contrary, Eggman has had some devious devices to give us trouble, as you'll see later in this list.
10:01But the Egg Emperor is one of his more irritating machines.
10:04The controls don't respond quick enough to let you react and dodge most of his attacks,
10:09and the enemies and turrets can make the fight really annoying.
10:13Yes, you can spam the fight by just attacking with a level 2 flight character,
10:17and honestly, that method doesn't make the fight any better.
10:21DEFEATED?
10:23IMPOSSIBLE!
10:24NO!
10:26BIG ARM – Sonic the Hedgehog 3
10:37Compared to Eggman's other machines, Big Arm is perhaps the most awkwardly designed.
10:42Granted, the first two phases of this final fight shouldn't be much trouble, as they are easy to cheese.
10:47But once Big Arm comes out, timing is everything.
10:51Eggman is now protected by a pod with two enormous arms and massive spikes decked out on top.
10:58Basically, you have a really small window to make your shots, and if you touch even a single pixel of
11:04the spikes,
11:05say goodbye to most of your rings.
11:07And yet, Big Arm isn't even the hardest of Eggman's arsenal.
11:10We're only getting started on this list, folks.
11:19PERFECT CHAOS – Sonic Adventure
11:29We can understand why the final battle against Chaos in its ultimate form would make for a difficult boss fight.
11:35We just weren't anticipating it to be hard in this way.
11:38To defeat Perfect Chaos, you need to reach the monster before your ring count is depleted, AND you need to
11:45maintain constant speed.
11:48Should you reach Chaos at a low speed, you will not be able to damage it and you will have
11:53to endure another phase of the fight.
11:56With Chaos harassing you with so many projectiles, this fight is way more difficult than it should have been.
12:03At least the music in the background is jammin'.
12:17Imperator X – Sonic Chronicles – The Dark Brotherhood
12:28Weren't expecting to see the weird Bioware RPG on here, were ya?
12:32Well that's the thing with Sonic Chronicles, it just pops up when you least expect it.
12:36And yes, it does boast some incredibly tough boss fights.
12:39Imperator X – the main villain – serves as a boss character roughly midway into the game and at the
12:45very end.
12:45Both times he can be troubling, his attacks are powerful, and the QTEs required to dodge or even resist damage
12:52can be WAY overwhelming.
12:55That's right!
12:56Remember, this is an RPG on the DS that requires more physical reaction than just tapping a button.
13:02You need to actually move your fingers in hand and tap the screen in order to properly execute attacks and
13:08resist enemy attacks.
13:09Needless to say, you better nail down your reaction times before reaching these fights.
13:23Metal Sonic – Sonic the Fighters
13:34Fighting Metal Sonic in a 2D platformer is surprisingly not at all tough, but what about in a 3D fighting
13:40game structure?
13:41Well, that's when he turns into a giant frickin' cheater.
13:45Metal Sonic can shoot an unblockable laser beam from his chest, and his barriers are harder to break than most
13:50characters.
13:51Oh, but you know, he can break your barriers without any trouble at all, yeah, that's totally fair.
13:56On top of that, just two throws can put you in a critical state, and yes, he will spam that
14:02same throw, it's really annoying.
14:04He's not as bad as many other fighting game bosses tend to be, but even for a Sonic spinoff, this…
14:09bruh, come on now.
14:20Metal Madness – Sonic Heroes
14:30Okay, we normally try to save one per game or one per franchise, but Sonic Heroes is a real exception
14:37here.
14:37We have a love for Sonic Heroes as much as some of you do, we can admit that, but, you
14:42know, this one's just a real hassle.
14:44And with this one, the AI can kill off one of your teammates because, you know, they got just a
14:51little too far away or they just magically fell through the floor and they didn't make a jump like you
14:56and the other guy did.
14:57It's even more aggravating when a particular boss fight like Metal Madness requires all three team members in order to
15:05progress.
15:06There are so many instances, though, where your teammates, they can fall out of the level or just get hit
15:13too many times and die.
15:14Given that Metal Madness requires you to hit it with speed, flight, and power, it's enough to call this one
15:20of the hardest Sonic bosses, man.
15:22Like this one was just, this one was just aggravating.
15:25I hated it.
15:29Sonic Heroes
15:38Sir Lancelot, Sonic and the Black Knight
15:53Sonic and the Black Knight is already a cumbersome game to play, with its awkward controls and
15:59level design.
15:59However, the most frustrating battle was when we had to fight Shadow, I mean, Sir Lancelot,
16:05a second time.
16:06The first fight wasn't a huge deal, since he utilized simple attacks, you know?
16:11It wasn't that big of a problem, but this time he's going full shet- I mean, he's going
16:15full Lancelot, and throwing Chaos Spears, and Chaos Blasts, and Chaos Explosions, and Chaos
16:21Unleashed, and anything else that can have Chaos thrown in front of it.
16:25It's ridiculous.
16:26Ultimately, you're forced to just continuously block his attacks, and spam your soul gauge
16:30abilities, because anything else is just going to make this more infuriating than it needed
16:34to be.
16:46The Bio-Lizard, Sonic Adventure 2.
16:58This stupid reptile is the bane of any Sonic fan's existence.
17:03What you have here is essentially a water stage.
17:06As Shadow, you're surrounded by water that is textured to look like sand, but one wrong
17:11step will send you plummeting to your doom.
17:13And in the center is the dreadful Bio-Lizard, a creature that will constantly change its
17:19direction of attack, use projectiles to trip you up, and cause you to fall in the sand.
17:24Oh, and should the Bio-Lizard bite you, you will get launched to the other side of the
17:28stage.
17:29Basically, instant death.
17:40Mecha Sonic and Death Egg Robot, Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
17:54Death Egg Zone is a migraine for fans of Sonic 2, and it's not even because it's a back-to
18:00-back
18:00couple of boss fights.
18:02Admittedly, Metal Sonic doesn't do a lot to make a stumble, and the Egg Robot is a tough
18:05but fair fight when considering its simple attack patterns.
18:08But no, what makes these two truly hard is the fact that this is it.
18:14This is the stage.
18:15You start with these boss fights, and there are absolutely no rings anywhere to save you.
18:21You are forced to do both fights without getting hit once.
18:25Not one time.
18:27You...
18:28It demands perfection.
18:30You need to be perfect.
18:32Sega, not everyone is a god at video games.
18:34Okay?
18:35Hang on a sec, this is only nine?
18:36Then what's the last boss?
18:47Come to me now, before I lose control, come to me now, you are mine.
18:55Before we continue, check out this single from SoundMojo's Adia, Songs from Iran, reimagining
19:00Persian melodies as modern rock, metal, and pop songs.
19:04Check out the full track and album below.
19:06Come to me now, before I lose it all.
19:17The game, Sonic 06.
19:23I'm Sonic.
19:25I'm Sonic.
19:26Sonic the Hedgehog.
19:27Not that irritating hedgehog again.
19:31Attack!
19:32Oh.
19:34Oh no.
19:41You know, folks will say that Silver the Hedgehog is the de facto hardest boss of Sonic 06,
19:47but we beg to differ.
19:49You're thinking a little too small there.
19:51Alright?
19:51Gotta broaden your horizons a bit.
19:53Simply playing Sonic 06 is a boss fight itself.
19:58Have you tried playing this game?
20:00Huh?
20:00Have you tried playing it for more than 10-15 minutes?
20:03It's a flippin' mess.
20:05It's a disaster.
20:06The most basic actions could potentially get you killed.
20:09Every jump, spin, dash, enemy, ally, sound effect, anything can do a significant amount
20:15of damage to your mentality.
20:17It's why I am the way I am.
20:19And it's evident when trying to get past the first autorun stage.
20:23It's a freakin' nightmare, man.
20:24It doesn't matter what strategy you have, what button press you make, the game does everything
20:30in its power to make you miserable and force you to replay large chunks of it.
20:34I played for 20 minutes.
20:36I died on the first autorun stage and it sent me all the way back to the very beginning
20:40of the freakin' game.
20:42There is no easy way out.
20:43There is no cheese method.
20:45There is nothing.
20:46You have to play it legitimately.
20:47It's no use!
20:57Who do you think gave Sonic the biggest run for his rings?
