Finish your Pocket Alien & UFO amigurumi by adding the final details in this crochet tutorial, where the upper trim, middle ring, tiny puff-stitch feet, and closing seam bring the project together. The steps focus on working into unworked front loops, slip stitching around the UFO, and shaping the rounded base so the little spaceship sits neatly.

This part of the Sweet Softies Crochet-A-Long also shows how to secure the puff stitches, weave in the ends, and close the opening with a running stitch in the front loops only. The result is a polished UFO with chubby feet and a clean finish, ready to pair with the alien for a finished handmade space toy.

Ideal for crocheters following an amigurumi tutorial, free crochet pattern, or crochet-along project, this episode is especially useful for anyone making a plush alien, UFO toy, or pocket-sized space character. It’s a helpful reference for crochet finishing techniques, front loop slip stitch details, puff stitch feet, and amigurumi assembly.

00:36Let's go ahead and work on that upper trim of the UFO.
00:42We're going to start by finding where the front loops or the unworked front loops are that
00:48you created in round 10.
00:52So here is the first unworked front loop.
00:57And this back here is the last one.
01:05It may be a little hard to see with plush yarn, but the unworked front loop sticks out slightly
01:11over here, all the way around.
01:15So go ahead and find where that first unworked front loop is, and you're going to pull yarn
01:21through.
01:23And what you'll do next is you're basically going to slip stitch in each of the front loops
01:29around.
01:30At the end, we're going to fasten off of the tail and weave it in.
01:33So here's what it'll look like.
01:36I'm going to insert my hook into the next front loop, pull through for a slip stitch.
01:43Go into the next front loop, pull through for a slip stitch.
01:49To the next one, and slip stitch.
01:54Let's do this all the way around.
02:23.
02:58all right here's what it looks like all the way around and you can go ahead and fasten off the
03:05yarn ends and weave them in we're now going to crochet the middle ring of the ufo i'm using a
03:15dark gray yarn for this section what you'll do is start by finding those unworked front loops
03:22created in round 15 so you can see them protruding here and i want to find where the first one
03:33is
03:33so here is um the first front loop oops of that piece um of the round and here is the
03:46last front
03:47loop of the round where we're finishing so in that first front loop i'm going to go ahead and pull
03:54yarn
04:03through and then i'm going to insert my hook into the next front loop
04:15and pull through for a slip stitch and let's continue that all the way around
04:28and
04:55all right and here we are after having gone all the way around um you can add a slip stitch
05:03to that
05:03very first stitch as well to close it up let's go ahead and fasten off
05:11and you'll want to weave in these ends as well
05:25now it's time to crochet the feet of the ufo
05:28and the feet are just made with little puff stitches we're going to put them between rounds
05:3519 and 20 this last round is 21 here's 20 and here's 19 so between 19 and 20 is where
05:45we can insert
05:46a little foot i put three little feet um in the ufo you can add more or you can um
05:56i wouldn't recommend
05:57fewer though but you could do three or you could do four if you'd like and let me go ahead
06:03and show you
06:04how to add those puffs in all right and i'm using dark gray yarn for the little um feet of
06:12the ufo
06:12you can use whichever color you want of course for um the puff stitch you're going to pull yarn through
06:20the u to begin then we're going to start with yarning over insert your hook into the same stitch
06:28yarn over and pull up a loop that's the first repetition we're going to do this a total of three
06:36times
06:37so let's do it two more times yarn over insert your hook into the same stitch yarn over pull through
06:47that's number two
06:54and that's number three now you should have seven loops on your hook that's one two three four five six
07:05and seven you know that was really hard to see because the loops are very tightly um wound together
07:14and push yarn makes it even harder to see so um go ahead and yarn over and let's pull through
07:22all
07:22seven of those loops give your hook a little wiggle if it gets stuck in there then you're going to
07:30make a
07:30chain and that's going to secure your puff now let's go ahead and fasten off and what you will do
07:38is take the fastened off end and pull it right back into the stitch when you do that
07:47you are pulling the puff down to the base of your amigurumi
07:54and it'll look like just a chubby little puff poking out
08:01let's go ahead and pull that starting yarn tail in as well
08:06and a really good way to keep that secure is to simply knot the starting and ending yarn tails together
08:21now there's that for the first leg let's go ahead and add another puff
08:28i think somewhere over here might be good and then i might have my last puff somewhere here
08:46we're going to repeat these instructions for the puff i'm going to do it again um to demonstrate
08:54yarn over pull through a loop yarn over insert your hook into the same stitch yarn over and pull through
09:03a loop
09:11last one yarn over insert yarn over pull a loop and now we're going to yarn over and go through
09:21all of these loops and chain to close the puff let's fasten off
09:30and once again pull it straight through um that same stitch
09:38and you'll have a nice little puff
09:45let's
09:49let's tie those ends together
10:00and they'll be nice and secure in the project
10:06i ended up adding four feet total because why not and let's go ahead and now sew up the hole
10:15oh by the way before you sew up the opening you'll want to make sure all the loose ends are
10:21woven in
10:22so i woven the ends from the top and the middle trim
10:28let's now close up that hole
10:34go ahead and thread your yarn needle with the um
10:41with the long yarn tail here
10:45and the easiest way to close up the hole in my opinion is to
10:50do a running stitch around in the front loops only so i'm going into just the front loop here
10:57going in and then out of the next one
11:02i'm going to keep the slacks for now and not pull tightly until the end
11:08now going in and out of the next front loop
11:17go in and then out of the next front loop
11:26and last one last pair go in and then out
11:33and now let's pull tight and as you can see it cinches together
11:40like so and now we can go ahead and use this um last bit of yarn tail to just weave
11:47in
11:58and you can go ahead and do that a few times until your yarn tail is hidden nicely
12:15when you are done go ahead and snip off the end
12:23and you'll want to kind of uh check your ufo for its shape
12:29working with it and then last few steps for finishing can definitely make it lopsided
12:35so i'm gonna go ahead and push it out again make sure the shape is well rounded on the bottom
12:43and that the seat is not pushed in
12:52and once you are done you should have a nice little ufo made just like this
13:06once you finish crocheting that little alien and its ufo you can go ahead and put it together
13:15and let your little alien fly off to explore space
