00:00Hi everyone, it's time I finally did something about this hooding above my eyes and with
00:06a four month old at home I'm still breastfeeding so my options are limited.
00:10Luckily I have found a procedure I can have with a local anaesthetic and that's an upper
00:16blepharoplasty and my blepharoplasty is going to be done with a radio frequency device called
00:22a palliative device and how it works is it makes tiny little holes along the natural
00:27crease of your eyelid and then all these tiny little holes sort of merge into one so it
00:32ends up becoming like a laser cut and apparently I have seen this device already and I've seen
00:37the attachment that goes onto the device where it apparently allows trained surgeons to do
00:43really fine procedures.
00:44It looks like a pen actually and it can cut almost like a laser or a scalpel really so it's
00:51going to be interesting to see how this compares to a scalpel blepharoplasty but I'm really looking
00:56forward to having it done because even though the hooding isn't too bad it still does like just
01:02annoy me with the sagging skin obviously and I can't get a good makeup line if I try and put
01:07eyeshadow
01:08on it'll just colour the top of my eyelid and also when I put sunscreen on it then runs into
01:14my eyes so
01:15that's annoying as well and plus it just makes me look older and more tired and sterner than I really
01:22feel as well so I think having it done will just be a really good refresher so I'm very excited

01:27get it done and yeah I'm just really looking forward to seeing the results so we're going to take some
01:32before and after shots here's a little one he's woken up hi and we'll we'll have a look and I

02:12I'm a bit nervous but very excited to be getting it done today there are other cosmetic procedures
02:17you can do to lift hooded eyes such as laser plasma fibroblast even hi-fu can help lift hooded eyes
02:24but to be honest when you've got this level of sagging skin here a surgical blepharoplasty is
02:29really the best way to go. Are you nervous or excited? I'm both actually I am excited to get
02:50it done definitely yeah but yes I am nervous I remember at the pre-admission appointment so you
02:56have an appointment where you go in and they discuss whether you're a good candidate for the
02:59procedure or not yeah so I went in there to have that discussion and it was really good actually
03:04um I was shown before and after photos of the procedure and they looked really impressive and
03:09I was very happy about it and I was shown the device so that that's at the point they showed
03:14me
03:14the actual device I saw the little pen like attachment that goes onto the Pelliv machine and it was very
03:21reassuring and they spoke a little bit about the aftercare but um I'll have better instructions
03:26yeah I'll tell you more today but they did they did say because I was saying I'm really looking
03:32forward to having it done and they said people do need a little bit of reassurance because even
03:36though it's a very low risk procedure it is still your eye your eyes oh for sure they're still working
03:43on your eye part of your body yes yes they're still working on your eyelids so yes I am nervous
03:48I am a bit nervous yeah you'll be fine I'm about to head in now I am nervous it is
03:55a minor procedure
03:56but still a surgical procedure they are working on this delicate area above the eyes after all
04:01and the doctor will be making those cuts here along the natural creases and then removing the excess skin
04:08and then stitching it up afterwards so hopefully the procedure will only take an hour or so
04:13and we'll be able to show you exactly what my eyes look like as soon as I'm back in the
04:17car so wish me luck
04:37wow I can already see a difference I just had to use the loo in the medical center just before
04:43I came
04:43back to the car and I can already see a difference I'm so thrilled like you can actually see
04:48he's opened up my eyes so the actual procedure itself so he did inject local anesthetic into my
04:55eyelids and once the local was in there then it's fine you do feel with the pallive device because it
05:00is that radio frequency device that does make that little cut or the cut across it you do feel some
05:06heat and you do feel some pressure but look it was fine honestly it was really fine so he he
05:12did the
05:12cuts and then what he does is once the cuts are done the doctor then asked me to look at
05:18his hands
05:18so then um there was a bright light shining on me as he was doing the surgical procedure obviously
05:24and so then once that um those two cuts and the excess skin had been removed he said just look
05:31at
05:31my hands and so I had to open my eyes and just look at my hands which was nervy because
05:34I knew that
05:35there was a raw area there and the skin had been removed so it was a little bit scary then
05:39at that
05:40point opening my eyes but it didn't hurt at all so I opened my eyes looked at his hands
05:44he then assesses whether enough skins come off I'm a real bleeder they did say that they've never
05:50seen anyone bleed as much as I bled so they were having to do quite a lot of cauterization during
05:56the procedure just to keep stopping the bleeding I've been given a pack that I'll unpack at home
06:01with some gauze and ice after care I've been told to just keep ice packs on it constantly they said
06:07keep ice packs on it for eight hours today so lucky my four-month-old is in daycare today but
06:13anyway I'm just really excited so the procedure itself look it was fine it it I mean it's a little
06:19bit uncomfortable with the heat and yes it was nervy I was given a squeeze ball to squeeze during the
06:24procedure and you can smell a little bit of the burning flesh a little bit like a plasma fibroblast or
06:29look even a tixel procedure you can smell a little bit of that burning flesh that smells a little bit
06:34like your hair being cinched with a flame or you know a little match or something so you can smell
06:39it a bit you can hear the machine working as it's sort of cauterizing your skin and cutting your skin
06:44but it's fine every time I was nervous I was just squeezing the squeeze ball and thinking no it's fine
06:50and didn't take long at all so then he stitched it up and and that was also fine didn't take
06:56too long
06:56and now I've got the stereo strips over it so you can probably see stereo strips are over the actual
07:01wound there and I've got a script for an antibacterial cream to now put on it starting tomorrow and the
07:09stitches will come out in a week's time so let's go home I'm going to put some ice packs on
07:13my eyes now
07:14but yeah I'm just genuinely thrilled to have had that done and I'm very happy with the initial result
07:19that I did see in the bathroom mirror already
07:33so my eyes are starting to hurt a little bit as I blink now because I think the local anesthetic
07:39is
07:39starting to wear off yeah it would be because yeah they don't use too much but so every time I
07:43blink it's
07:43like yeah I can feel something's been done so I'm looking forward to going home and just yeah
07:48popping those ice packs on now that I'm home the first thing I'm going to do is look at this
07:52aftercare pack that I've been given so here's the script I need to fill for the antibacterial eye
07:59ointment that I'm going to be putting on I can actually take my hat off too now that I'm home
08:06and I've been given some scar ointment so I've been told to put this on my eyelids after the
08:15stitches come out so that won't be needed for another week because the stitches I've made an
08:20appointment the stitches are coming out in one week's time so next Tuesday I've got gauze here
08:25I've got some oh these are the little samples I was given for some um there are skin cleansers and
08:34night moisturizers so that's exciting I love samples I'm just giving these little samples
08:39and here's some saline drops that they said because after a blepharoplasty um with the swelling that
08:47they're expecting I will have because I've bled a lot your lids can sometimes not fully close for the
08:53first couple of nights just because they're so puffy and swollen so if your eyes get dry they've
08:57given me some saline drops to put into my eyes to just keep them moisturized um I've been given this
09:04to protect my pillow tonight so it's it's to be put on my pillow just in case there's some more
09:10bleeding
09:10which there might be given on the bleeder I've got aftercare instructions here that have been printed off
09:16so that's that's good I'll keep these close by um more gauze um a half ice pack so I'll put
09:27this in
09:27the freezer immediately so I'll do that actually now and I'm also going to be given these two little
09:32individual ice packs so the nurse gave me a good hint she said um because these are two little
09:37individual ones to tape these together at a diagonal here so if you put a little bit of tape here
09:42then they
09:43can sit on your eye like this so that'll be easier so these come in the freezer now and what
09:48else is
09:49here oh just the other skincare sample and more saline drops so lots of these lots of these lots of
09:57gauze she said you might need a bit of gauze if you do bleed a bit so that's exciting getting
10:01this
10:01little aftercare pack these are going straight into the freezer now so hopefully I'll be and I do have
10:07some ice packs in the freezer already prepared so we'll be able to um use these ones first
10:15while these ones whoops freeze so we'll pop these in
10:24and these are already cold

11:08Okay, I know these look really red and raw, but they really don't feel too bad at all.
11:14I've been so pleasantly surprised.
11:16I expected to get up this morning, my eyes really really swollen, but even the night
11:21was way more comfortable than I feared.
11:24So what I did last night is when I went to bed, I did sleep on my back like they
11:28told
11:29me to, but normally I can't fall asleep on my back.
11:31So I had the large ice pack over my eyes and I just thought I'll just lie here for 20
11:35minutes
11:36or so and see how I go.
11:37By some miracle, I did fall asleep.
11:39So I would have slept solidly for probably a good three, three and a half hours with that
11:44big ice pack over both eyes.
11:46And when I did wake up in the night, I remember immediately thinking, oh, how swollen are they?
11:51I blinked.
11:52They absolutely felt fine.
11:54My eyes didn't even feel dry.
11:55So I haven't had to use the saline drips.
11:58And the lids, because the lids closed appropriately.
12:02Like I was warned that if I do get really bad swelling, they may not close properly, but no,
12:07they closed properly.
12:07It was all good.
12:08I took the ice pack off at that point.
12:10I did try to lie back down on my back.
12:13Couldn't get back to sleep again.
12:14So then I was on my side and this was on my pillow.
12:18So this was the pillow protector.
12:19You can see there's hardly any, there's hardly been any bleeding and I don't even think this
12:24was fresh blood.
12:25I think it's just some old blood that then just rubbed off on my pillow as I was tossing
12:29and turning.
12:30But really, really pleasantly surprised with this healing.
12:33I had worse swelling from CO2 laser when I've had laser around my eyes.
12:38How are you going, love?
12:40You know, they've swollen up like golf balls, but no, this was absolutely fine.
12:44And I have kept the area dry.
12:46So when I get in the shower, I just have the water running softly and I've just used a face
12:51cloth on my forehead and cheeks.
12:53So I haven't, I don't put my face into the shower stream.
12:56So last night, this morning, I'll probably still keep the area dry tonight, but I think
13:02by tomorrow morning, I'll take the little Steri-Strips off and then put antibacterial ointment
13:08on the wound line just to prevent infection.
13:12But look, honestly, and I'm so excited by the result.
13:15Like I look in the mirror and I can see that the doctor has definitely opened up my eyes
13:19more.
13:20It's already looking more refreshed, even though a little bit gory right now.
13:23And I do know they look red and raw, but they truly do not feel bad at all.
13:28I haven't even had to have any pain relief.
13:30So the nurse warned me, she said, oh, you might need to take Panadol or something.
13:33I haven't had any pain relief whatsoever.
13:36They're very comfortable.
13:37I can blink, move them around, it's all fine.
13:41So I'm just really thrilled, really pleasantly surprised that the healing has not been traumatic
13:46at all so far.
13:47And I'm very much looking forward to getting the stitches out.
13:58Another thing that's really helping with the healing is my red light therapy lamp.
14:02I'm a huge fan of red light therapy.
14:05It's got really good benefits for neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
14:10And it's really great for skin too.
14:12It speeds up skin healing if you've got a wound like I do.
14:15And it helps your skin build up collagen too.
14:17So normally, as time allows looking after Spencer, I would try to use my red light therapy lamp
14:23about three times a week.
14:24But now that I'm healing from the blepharoplasty, I'm going to be using this every day, probably
14:29for about three weeks at least, for 20 minutes a day.
14:47So the stereostrip's been on for several days, so a good idea to loosen them up is to wet them
14:54with some sterile sewing on cotton balls.
15:02Just dab that on beforehand.
15:04Scoot a bit close your eyes.
15:10Stereostrip's a little fine.
15:21And then pull with one direction and with the other finger, the other hand provides some counter-traction
15:28to the tissue.
15:29The incision looks nice and clean.
15:31No bleeding.
15:33No bleeding.
15:34So that's one off.
15:37I'm just going to cover that with the saline, just keep it closed again for a sec.
15:42Okay, you can open your eyes briefly if you want and then we'll do the other side.
15:48Okay, so you can close your eyes again.
15:51I'm probably going to have to come back to the other side.
15:54In fact, I'll have to get to the edge of that stereostrip.
15:59Okay, so same thing.
16:01Get the edge.
16:02This one's a bit longer, so a little bit easier to get hold of.
16:05Just gentle pulling with the other hand provides some counter-traction.
16:11It's nice and slow.
16:13Okay, once again the incision's side looks clean.
16:17No bleeding.
16:19Just give it a dab with the saline and you can open your eyes and it's done.
16:26That wasn't too bad.
16:28That actually didn't hurt too much at all.
16:30Like, it did sting a little bit.
16:32This side actually stung a little bit more as you pulled the stereostrip off.
16:36But no, it wasn't too bad at all.
16:37And they look fine, do they?
16:39Like, there's no fresh bleeding.
16:41There's no fresh bleeding.
16:42And it feels absolutely fine.
16:44So it's day three today and the swelling has been so minimal basically.
16:50Day two was absolutely fine as well.
16:52And I think it's great.
16:53It's definitely opened up my eyes.
17:06Yay!
17:07The stitches are out.
17:08So I've just come back out of the medical centre.
17:10I was so nervous when I got up this morning because I could see the skin was healing really
17:15well over the stitches and I thought, oh, how's she going to get in there to get them out?
17:19But look, it was absolutely fine.
17:21Hardly hurt at all.
17:22I mean, it did pinch a little bit in the corner here where she used the stitch cutter
17:26because there was a little knot that she had to sort of cut through.
17:29But then before I knew it, she was dabbing the area with saline and I said, is that it?
17:33And she said, yep, the stitches are out.
17:35So stitches are now out, which is something I was looking forward to.
17:38And they're really happy with the way the skin's healing.
17:42And so am I.
17:43I've been noticing every day when I've been looking at them in the mirror, they really
17:46are healing well.
17:47So it's still a little bit lumpy here, but that's totally normal, they said.
17:52Now I've got to use the Scar Derma Scar Therapy Cream.
17:56So that's just going to, all the skin's going to heal up really nicely here.
18:00And the lines are just beautiful.
18:02And now when I put eyeshadow on, you're actually going to see that I'm wearing a bit of colour
18:06rather than the hooding skin covering it up.
18:09So I thank the doctor profusely.
18:11I think he's done an awesome job.
18:13And they also offer red light therapy for post healing too.
18:17But I've got it at home.
18:18So I told them I'll just keep using that at home.
18:21So very excited to have the stitches out now.
18:24They feel really comfortable, healing up beautifully.
18:27And we'll come back to you in a few weeks time so you can see the final result.
18:45Wow, see how well they've healed in such a short amount of time.
18:49It's nice to look in the mirror and see such a positive change.
18:52Even just getting my eyes done makes my whole face feel rejuvenated.
18:56And I don't think I look as tired as before.
18:59A definite advantage of getting a surgical cosmetic procedure done is that you can see an immediate positive effect.
19:06You often have to have multiple non-surgical cosmetic treatments before you see a difference.
19:11But with a surgical treatment it's usually one and done.
19:14The recovery has been surprisingly painless for me.
19:17And this is just the beginning of the healing process.
19:19The skin around the scars will continue to tighten as new collagen is formed.
19:24And eventually the scars will just fade away to almost nothing.
19:28I'm really glad I got this procedure done.
19:31And I would highly recommend it to anyone.
