Dawn on the eastern side of Lake Kerkini brings a beautiful but challenging wildlife photography session, with pelicans, herons and wading birds moving through flooded paddy fields and green grasses. After an early start and a careful setup in the dark, George works from an improvised hide in the hope of capturing grey herons, purple herons, squacco herons, black-crowned night herons, spoonbills, pelicans and even a close kingfisher.

Soft sunrise light, misty distance shots and dew-covered grasses create a stunning backdrop, but the birds often stay far away or move before the camera can settle. The morning includes a brief feeding frenzy, a close pass from a squacco heron, and a few rewarding moments when egrets and herons come nearer to the hide. It is a realistic look at wildlife filming, bird photography and the patience needed in the field.

Created for viewers who enjoy wildlife photography vlogs, birdwatching videos, nature filming, heron and pelican footage, and early morning lake scenery. If you search for Lake Kerkini wildlife, bird photography at dawn, wading birds, herons, pelicans, spoonbills, kingfisher sightings, or improvised hide filming, this relaxed nature vlog fits that search perfectly.

00:51So, hello. Good morning, my friends.
00:54I've had to get up at a ridiculous time this morning
00:59just to get here in time to set up my blind
01:04in as much darkness as I could
01:09and position myself basically to photograph at this location
01:13which is a superb location on the eastern side of the lake
01:19where this time of year, because the water level is high,
01:22it creates these paddy fields
01:23and you have beautiful green grass growing through the water
01:28and all the wading birds and herons and such like
01:33I love combing these paddy fields here for food
01:39and grazing along through it
01:41and it looks absolutely stunning
01:42because you can get birds just surrounded by green
01:46so what I'm looking for today is basically the herons and waders
01:52so that'll be grey heron, purple heron if I'm really lucky
01:57scrocker heron, black crowned night heron
02:04there's spoonbills as well
02:06the pelicans should be around as well
02:08because the water is shallow enough here that they get an easy feed
02:14and there's chances of other things as well
02:16there's little grebe, crested grebe
02:21there's koi poo, there's kingfisher
02:23there's all kinds of birds here
02:25so with some luck I haven't created too much of a disturbance this morning
02:30I'm trying to set myself up in the dark here
02:32I'll save that in a second
02:36and I haven't disturbed the birds
02:42so hopefully they will come
02:44it's still about half an hour now
02:47I guess before dawn
02:49exactly half an hour before dawn
02:54one of the main problems here with the light
02:57is that at this time of year as well
03:00the sun comes up over the mountain back there
03:03and because it's already at quite a high angle by the time it hits the lake
03:10the soft sunlight the early morning sunlight is really really brief
03:15so just a few minutes and then it's gone and it gets really hard really quick
03:21but regardless I should hopefully get some nice light in between now and sun up
03:31and in the half hour after sun up as well
03:33should be soft enough to get some decent light
03:38so yeah I'll be back with you in a bit hopefully
03:42with something interesting in my frame
03:44so I'll see you in a sec
04:15I'll see you in a sec
04:44I'll see you in a sec
14:04In the frame he was that close.
14:07So not too bad.
