00:00Where should I do my video with that?
00:01Nobody.
00:02Excuse me?
00:04No!
00:32Awesome!
00:37Sure!
00:39Sure!
00:39No!
00:46Sure!
00:47Sure!
00:48Sure!
00:50Why is that?
00:51Last minute.
00:53It was interesting.
01:19A rescue that many feared would never happen has now brought
01:23a fresh wave of hope in flood-hit Nepal.
01:27Two workers have been pulled out alive after spending nine days trapped deep inside a hydropower
01:34tunnel.
01:35And what makes their survival remarkable is where they were found.
01:39They were rescued from around 170 meters underground after massive floods, mud and debris sealed
01:46parts of the tunnel.
01:47This is the Trishuli-3A hydropower tunnel, part of a huge 4.5-kilometer-long underground
01:55structure.
01:56After the deadly glacial and mountain collapse and subsequent flooding, several workers were
02:01feared trapped inside.
02:04For nine days, rescuers battled through tons of mud, boulders and water to reach them.
02:10Then came the breakthrough.
02:12According to officials and experts monitoring the operation, rescuers detected signs that
02:18someone could still be alive inside.
02:20A faint response was reportedly heard from deep within the tunnel.
02:25The message was believed to be a simple word in Nepali, meaning yes or okay.
02:31Rescuers then called back into the darkness, telling the workers not to worry because they
02:36were coming to rescue them.
02:37And eventually, they reached them.
02:40Video released by the Nepal army shows rescuers entering the narrow underground space and finding
02:46the two men.
02:47They were placed onto a makeshift stretcher and carefully carried out.
02:52The first man rescued was Senjay Shah, a 30-year-old foreman.
02:57Officials said he was in stable condition.
02:59The second, mechanical supervisor Kabir Maharajan, was taken into intensive care.
03:05But the biggest question remains, how did they survive for nine days?
03:11Experts believe a stable air pocket deep inside the tunnel may have provided breathable oxygen.
03:17There was also trapped water inside the underground section.
03:20As floodwaters rushed through the tunnel, the workers are believed to have moved upward, escaping
03:26rising water, rocks, sediment and mud.
03:30They eventually sheltered in a chamber that may have protected them from drowning or being
03:35directly hit by the debris.
03:37The tunnel reportedly lost emergency power early in the disaster.
03:41That meant the men were left in darkness, damp conditions and extreme uncertainty.
03:47They likely survived by finding whatever food and water was available and conserving their
03:52physical energy.
03:53Meanwhile, rescuers worked from the outside.
03:56They cleared debris with heavy machinery while also pushing pipes into the tunnel to supply
04:02clean air and prevent dangerous gases from building up.
04:06And now, the rescue of these two men has changed the entire operation.
04:11At least 35 more workers are believed to be trapped in this specific tunnel.
04:17Their survival has given families and rescuers renewed hope.
04:21The search is continuing, not only here, but across multiple hydropower sites damaged by
04:28the floods.
04:29At least 12 hydropower projects have reportedly been hit.
04:33For nine days, the tunnel offered almost no certainty.
04:37Now, two survivors have emerged from the darkness.
04:41And for the teams still searching, that may be the most important sign of all.
04:46What safety does cost us to the centralpora of theuropeamarkt?
