00:26Nepal is facing
00:28one of its worst flood disasters in recent memory.
00:32And as rescue operations continue, Prime Minister Belindra Shah is thanking its neighbors,
00:38India and China, for stepping in with emergency assistance.
00:43Shah also acknowledged support from the United States and other countries, saying international
00:48help has been crucial during the crisis.
00:52The devastating flash floods in the Boat Koshi River have swept away villages, roads, and
00:58power infrastructure across at least three districts.
01:02The death toll has now crossed 1,200, and more than 4,200 people are still unaccounted
01:09for, including hundreds of Indian pilgrims and tourists.
01:13Against this backdrop, India has launched a major relief operation.
01:18Since August 26th, New Delhi has sent at least five consignments of emergency supplies to
01:24Nepal.
01:25These include blankets, sleeping bags, tarpaulins, hygiene kits, medicines, food packets, solar
01:33lamps, water purification tablets, and portable generators.
01:37The Indian Air Force has also conducted multiple sorties to transport these supplies into the
01:43flood-hit areas.
01:45But India's assistance goes beyond relief material.
01:48Specialized rescue teams have also been deployed to support Nepali authorities around hydropower
01:54tunnels, and to assist with forensic work linked to the identification and handling of the
02:00dead and missing.
02:02China, meanwhile, is also playing a key role in the recovery effort.
02:06Beijing is continuing rescue and recovery operations from the Tibet side of the border.
02:14China has reopened the only road leading to the Girong border crossing into Nepal, a route
02:21that was badly damaged when sections were washed away by the floods.
02:25The reopening means heavy machinery can now reach the main disaster zone.
02:30But Nepal says the immediate relief operation is only part of the challenge.
02:35Kathmandu has launched a diplomatic campaign to seek international financial assistance for
02:41the disaster.
02:42Nepal's foreign minister has argued that post-disaster support should be seen as a matter of moral
02:48responsibility and not simply charity.
02:51For now, Nepal's priority remains clear, saving lives, finding those still missing, and rebuilding
02:59critical infrastructure.
03:00And amid the devastation, Kathmandu is publicly recognizing the countries that moved quickly to
03:07help, with India and China at the center of Nepal's emergency relief efforts.
