00:00But one of the absolute worst deals in NIL history was also on display.
00:06Bryce Underwood, who was one of the top kids in all of high school football,
00:10was recruited big time to go and play there in Ann Arbor,
00:14has been nothing but a bomb since he's been there with Big Blue.
00:18Here's a quarterback that signed a historic nil deal,
00:21a four-year, $12 million nil deal.
00:25And when Kyle Winningham took this job, he was handed this kid,
00:30and obviously after his first performance, everybody was watching.
00:35He was not able to elevate that program.
00:38I don't care how the game ended.
00:40It was basically a mulligan on how Michigan won that football game against Western Michigan.
00:46So much so, when Kyle Winningham was even asked a question on the future of Bryce Underwood,
00:51he had these comments to be made about his starting quarterback.
00:55He's our QB right now, and it's not something that's infinite.
01:01I mean, at some point, we've got to turn a corner,
01:03and we've got to see improvement, as we do with a bunch of stuff.
01:08We've got to see improvement out of the coaches.
01:09And so it's not just on Bryce, and it's not just Bryce's job that is not absolutely set and concrete.
01:18Nobody's is.
01:18I mean, you've got to perform week in and week out and become somebody that we feel like is playing
01:25at a level that we can win with.
01:27And that goes far beyond Bryce.
01:30It goes throughout the whole team.
01:32And so what you've done lately is very important in football.
01:35Well, I don't want to put a timeline on it, but we've got to see progress,
01:38and we've got to see a level of play that is conducive to winning games.
01:44And, you know, Bryce is still just what used to be a true sophomore.
01:48It's a year two now.
01:49But so he is still early in his development.
01:52There's just no two ways around that.
01:55And he's got a new offense that he's assimilating this year.
01:58So in a way, it's a brand-new start there.
02:01So don't want to panic, don't want to, you know, get ahead of ourselves.
02:06And like I said, he's a big-time talent with his arm talent and his ability to run.
02:11And we're just going to stay the course for right now.
02:14But, again, there does come a time for everybody at some point where you've got to look at maybe an
02:19alternative
02:20if you're not getting what you need.
02:22Don't take that demeanor as he's not a hard-ass because Kyle Winningham is a hard-ass.
02:29If I was a football player and I heard my head coach talking like that about me,
02:36I'd be concerned about my starting job.
02:39Jimmy Johnson used to come up to all the players who were struggling,
02:42and he'd sit down next to him and say,
02:45what do I have to do to make you a better ball player?
02:47Is there anything you need?
02:48You know what the key was?
02:50If Jimmy came a second time, there wouldn't be a third time.
02:53And that's kind of what this is right now.
02:55Let's take a look at this, Chris,
02:56the schedule that they have coming up and what possibly could be that due week for Michigan here.
03:04Now, look, you've got Oklahoma coming up here.
03:06This is going to be a game where I think that Michigan, they've got to show.
03:11I don't know if they've got to win that game.
03:13Oklahoma is one of the top teams in the country and considered a national championship contender.
03:19If you go in and you play against Oklahoma and you play like a dog like you did in that
03:26Western Michigan game,
03:27I've got to tell you, you're going to be hearing the boos and more from Kyle like that.
03:34That UTEP game that follows that Oklahoma game, that's going to be a fool's gold game.
03:40I'm going to tell you this.
03:41See that Penn State game on October 17th?
03:45If this guy, Bryce Underwood, does not have this thing turned around by that Penn State game,
03:51and they're not playing better offensively, I would say you could start to look for a replacement in that October
03:5817th game.
04:00Because look what you have coming up when you head into that Penn State game.
04:04You've got Penn State, then you're followed up with Indiana.
04:08Indiana is the favorite to win the Big Ten.
04:11Then you've got another fool's gold game with Rutgers.
04:14That thing's on a respirator.
04:15Michigan State looks like they're improved.
04:17And then you've got, look at the way you're going to finish the season.
04:20You're going to finish it up with number two Oregon, who didn't really look all that hot, against Boise State.
04:26You've got a walkthrough game with UCLA, and then you end the season, obviously, with Ohio State.
04:33And it's at the big house.
04:35I mean, it's at the horseshoe.
04:38So don't tell me, without a doubt here, that you're not thinking of replacing this guy.
04:43I would say that Penn State game, he has been a colossal disaster since he has been the starting quarterback
04:51there at Michigan.
04:52And Kyle is not going to sit around and put the season in jeopardy just to sit there and pay
04:58this kid $12 million on that historic four-year nil deal that they got a couple years ago.
05:03Make no mistake about it.
05:06Michigan is going to make a change at quarterback.
