00:03Hello, it is Sunday the 13th of September and this is your weather forecast for Southeast
00:07Australia. So today we're doing South Australia, Victoria, Tasmania and New South Wales. This is
00:12what the current weather map looks like. We have a high pressure system off in the Tasman Sea.
00:16This is directing that warm northerly flow of winds down into many of these states across
00:20Saturday, Sunday, which is why we had some really nice weather there. And then you can see we have
00:25a trough line approaching, which is starting to whip up a bit of wind and cloud in South Australia.
00:30And also in Tasmania, we're starting to get sort of the edges of this close together mean sea level
00:35pressure. So a bit of wind is picking up because we have this trough and then a front move through
00:40Monday and Tuesday. So let's get into having a look at that. So starting off with our weather
00:44warnings, we currently have some possible marine coastal wind warnings that last and intensifies
00:50around Tasmania for Monday as well. Now on Tuesday, we only get to look at the fire danger ratings
00:55and South Australia and Victoria, a lot of these fire danger ratings don't start until November.
01:00So that's why we're not seeing them for these states at the moment. But you can see that up in
01:05northern New South Wales, we have a high fire danger being issued and that continues into sort of
01:11the rest of the week. There's some pretty warm temperatures on the way and also a little bit of
01:15wind around on sort of Tuesday, Wednesday. So that can be contributing there to that fire risk.
01:19So let's get into having a look. So this is, we're going to start off as always with our daily
01:23rainfall fields. This is Sunday. You can see the trough moving over, delivering about five to ten
01:27mils into South Australia and into Western Victoria. On Monday, that starts to move across, still
01:32relatively light showers across the southeast, drying out in South Australia as the ridging of
01:37the high starts to move through. And on Tuesday, it's when we're going to see most of the rainfall
01:41from that high associated in Tasmania and Victoria. And then by Wednesday, it's sort of moved off
01:46into the Tasman. And what you'll notice, we're going to zoom in, is that New South Wales really
01:50doesn't receive a lot of this rainfall with this system. In fact, it's almost dry for the whole
01:54week for New South Wales. Okay. So Tuesday, you're starting to see this high develop. It's a 1040.
02:00So it's a relatively strong high and that's starting to come into South Australia. But we still have these
02:06southerly winds. So it's quite cold, especially in the daily maximum temperatures that we're seeing
02:10on Tuesday and on Wednesday. Beautiful. So we're still seeing that sort of southerly flow. But as
02:16we get into Thursday, it starts to settle. We're going to see some quite cold morning temperatures
02:21towards the end of the week. And I've definitely seen frost in the forecast across multiple areas.
02:25We'll have a look at the spatial footprint of that in a minute. And then it sort of warms up
02:31a little
02:31bit later as we get under the northerly flow of this high for a relatively nice weekend, Saturday,
02:37and then Sunday, we're potentially getting the next sort of system move through. But sort of
02:41in summation, we have that front coming in sort of Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. It's relatively weak.
02:47It's not associated with a lot of rainfall. There are some strong winds, but not major. So let's have
02:51a look at those winds. This is the Tuesday wind field, which is largely in the forecast, the sort
02:55of strongest wind field day that we're seeing. So you can see sort of inland South Australia gusting 30
02:59to 40 kilometres an hour as we get into this, I suppose, this sort of easterly flow of this high.
03:06And then we're getting potentially 63 to 90 kilometre hour gusts down here in the southeast
03:11as we get the sort of southwesterlies with this trough moving through. These do come up and into,
03:18let's see, we're just zooming ahead a few hours. Yeah, it comes up into New South Wales. And so
03:22there are gale force warnings, so above 40 kilometres an hour gusts across Tuesday and into Wednesday.
03:27But those are sort of the only days of strong wind that I'm seeing. As for this frost that we're
03:31talking about, I've just here looked at Thursday, but I'm sort of seeing it in the forecast
03:34Thursday, Friday, Saturday. And some places, especially around South Australia, are getting
03:39it a little bit earlier because that high is moving in earlier. But yeah, this is just the
03:43Thursday morning field to show you this sort of middle blue is all zero to five degrees. So there's
03:48always there a chance of frost and fog. I'm definitely seeing the forecast linked more towards
03:53frost as we have a pretty dry atmosphere at the moment. Yeah, it's just very dry. So there's not a
03:59lot
03:59of conditions for that fog to develop. And then as you can see in the ranges, we're getting sort of
04:04negative five to zero degrees. But of course, that's not associated with any moisture. So
04:07there's not going to be any snowfall there either. So that's the frost and fog situation with those
04:12minimum temperatures from the overnight radiative cooling. All right. So wrapping up just as a sort
04:17of reminder or a recap. South Australia is currently experiencing the start of that trough and front
04:23moving through. So cooling off the temperatures today on Sunday and into Monday. For Victoria and
04:28Tasmania and sort of southern New South Wales, this is coming in Tuesday and into Wednesday.
04:33But by Thursday, all of these states have cleared and are under the influence of a high,
04:37delivering some cool overnight temperatures. Up in northern New South Wales, it is cool.
04:43It's warm and dry for most of the week. And there's a chance of that sort of early morning
