02:53and it was based around the way the world has looked at Brock Purdy
02:56and refuses to elevate him because of where he was drafted.
03:01Justin Herbert is the opposite.
03:03I don't know any other player in sports who continues to get elevated
03:07to being top five in his position and has done nothing to earn it.
03:11I don't not like the guy.
03:13I like Justin Herbert.
03:13I think he's got some great traits, and he's had some wonderful moments.

03:19He's never won a playoff game.
03:21And now he's got an elite offensive coordinator.
03:23He's got a quarterback, successful head coach as a head coach.
03:26At what point do you have to achieve something in order to, like, be on that list?

03:36I think that he's shown potential to be a greater elite.
03:41You look at the FanDuel.
03:44They have him as one of the quarterbacks.
03:45You can pray odds that he thinks that he's going to be an MVP type of guy.
03:49But I do agree with you that when you look at Purdy, it's a lot of unjust due.
03:54Purdy has set his bar high, and everyone's set the bar even higher.
03:58The expectations for Purdy has been through the roof, and what this guy has been able
04:03to accomplish, Dibs, as a quarterback, as a guy who's not six foot four, not the prototypical
04:08type of quarterback, I think it's elite.

04:12Me and Stiney talked about it earlier, how he's continued to develop, even though they
04:16talk about him as a system quarterback.
04:18This guy has pretty much mastered his system, and I think that Shanahan's given him a bigger
04:22role to go to the second and third read and improvise when needed.
04:25I couldn't agree with you more, to be honest.
04:28And that's one of the classic low-isms.

04:31Normally, it comes with an uptick, but I thought you guys actually said it great earlier,

04:40It's Brock Purdy, but now he's kind of grown outside the system, and he's making plays that
04:45are outside of that system, and I look at Justin Herbert, and yes, he's got a new offensive
04:51coordinator now, who was supposed to be amazing, and one week in, it didn't look that great.
04:56Yeah, I mean, my thing with Purdy is, I remember real early when he started, people were saying,
05:03yeah, he probably couldn't start for any other team, and I think now Brock Purdy would start
05:08for a lot of other teams.
05:09I agree with that, but I'm confused by the Chargers.

06:21I think when you look at the defense and how they played this last game, Dibs, I think
06:26that this defense has a lot of room to improve, and you talk about, okay, you talk about a
06:32defense that didn't have a lot of names, that big-name guys in Arizona.
06:36You look at the Niners.
06:38You got your three.
06:39You got your two linebackers, and, of course, you got Nicky Bosa.
06:42This team, who's the guys in the front?
06:45And so, you look at the back end.
06:47Guys have been injured.
06:49This Niners defense, I think they have, they surprised a lot of people with the way that
06:54they performed this first game.
06:55Yeah, one thing you taught me, and you taught me so much about football, and, you know, this
06:59is probably the only time I'll ever compliment you, and we are on the radio together, but
07:03you taught me about complimentary football, and right now, when you look at the Niners with
07:07Kalon Black and Christian McCaffrey, and you can run it, so you can keep it, and when you
07:12keep it, your defense is fresh, and if you can get the lead, then your defense can play
07:16a certain kind of way, and I don't want to make this all about the Chargers, but they
07:20couldn't run it yesterday, and so Arizona was able to pick them apart, and, you know,
07:24you had Kobe Brissett, Kobe, able to, you know, do what he did, and so I think about
07:30Shanahan and why the Niners are always going to be mostly relevant is because of that complimentary
07:36football that you taught me a long time ago.

10:17When he's going for it, it's timing.
10:19If you're doing it at the beginning of the game, in the first minute or two of the game,
10:23your music can overcome it.
10:25If it's the fourth quarter, five, six minutes left in the game, the game is pretty much,
10:31you've already seen who you are.
10:32You've already seen the majority of what's going to happen.
10:35So, why take chances at that particular time when it's too close?
10:38Go up for now if it is a two-score, because now, if they do score, you've got another chance
10:44to stop them if they don't get the two-point conversion.

10:51At times, I would, and at times, I wouldn't.
10:53I think that he, at times, I think that he looks at the analytics and says, we're going

11:05And sometimes, when you put analytics in these numbers, and you let these people say, well,

11:10Sometimes, you just got to go with the field and say, look, man, we've not been able to
11:14get this done.

11:17Let's figure this thing out.
11:19Because when you don't get it, mentally, what does it do to your team?
11:24The offense walks off the field with their head down.
11:27The defense, okay, we got you.
11:28And they're thinking, man, we just gave up points.

11:32I know this era now with all the robots and all this stuff.

11:38So, that's what I just differ from.

12:15And I'm always, like, thinking, well, what's the defense think?

12:21You think, oh, the coach believes in us.
12:24At the same time, I'm not believing in my defense.

12:28Because I'm saying, no, I don't believe a two-point lead is good enough for my defense, or I don't

12:38That was one of my big takeaways of the weekend.
12:40There were very few football teams that looked good on both sides of the ball.

12:47I think with the exception, I think you guys got to give an attaboy.
12:50I know they're in the conference at Seattle.
12:52You can show that you can win with a backup quarterback and play good defense and still
12:56may be able to get turnovers and get after people.

12:59The Niners, you've seen the way that they played.
13:00I think defensively, they played really well.
13:03First half, some plays, they showed, gave up some big runs, but nothing to kill them.
13:08You look at the defense and what the offense did.
13:10The 49ers, I thought they played complementary football on both sides of the ball, and I thought
13:16special teams, look what they did, and that changed the game.
13:19Deebo getting out to the 50-yard line, put them in scoring position, so I thought they
13:24played pretty good offensively and defensively side of the ball.
13:27I thought Niners, Giants, I'll give it to Seattle because they lost their QB, and therefore
13:34maybe a little bit of Minnesota as well, but boy, they lucked into some just terrible
13:39play by the Packers.
13:41Jacksonville, but can't tell because that was against Cleveland and Baltimore.
13:45To me, those are the teams that played well on both sides of the ball, and that's the
13:49list.

14:42he and I would talk about relationships, family, history, God, farming, all these different
14:50things.
14:51We would spend at least three days a week, and Lowe and I, and Joe would be in there grinding
14:55on the show, you know, shout out Joe Fortenbaugh, and you know, continued success, Godspeed,
15:01as I say.
15:02And Lowe and I would sit out there and have the deepest of deepest conversations about
15:07relationships and God and all the rest of it.
15:09So, you know, when I look at Lowe, it's like, I'm, well, and it's like, I'm looking at my
15:14brother.

15:16It's like family.
15:17And so, yes, is there something I want to say to Lowe?

16:44And so I got like a 10 times dose, and it happened to be my ex-wife's birthday.
16:50So I make it home, and I'm supposed to go out to dinner with my ex-wife.
16:55It was January 13th.
16:56I don't remember the year, and immediately when it happened, Lowe's like, you're in trouble.

17:03He's like, this already is like a heavy dose, and you got like a 10 times dose.

19:55who said no, and they became obsessed with getting big time home run hitters.
20:01That's not what wins baseball in San Francisco.
20:03And then they got like no relievers.
20:06They just spent no time on that at all.

20:47to the Steelers in the AFC Championship.
20:49That was the most physical game, the most physical year of my career.
20:54If I, if I, if I was there maybe 10, five, six years earlier, it would have been okay.
21:00But going at that particular time in my career, playing with, where we just lined up and ran
21:05the ball 30, 40 times, you know, using Ray Rice and LeMama King, that was, that was the
21:10most, I think the most daunting on my career.
21:13One of the most physical games of all time.
21:15And I'm just struck when you tell that story about when we went to the Super Bowl in Miami
21:20and we went to Ray Lewis's party.
21:23Yeah.
21:23And I told the story last week when we were at Topgolf and you walked in and, you know,
21:29Ray was like, mama, mama, Lo Neal's here.
21:32And he immediately commanded you to come over.

21:36Because you have so many battles.
21:38You have so many stories with these guys and these moments that you, you spend with them.
21:42And it's, it's great.
21:43It's sort of like, you know, with here, you know, being here in moments, the years that
21:46we've had together and look at over time, we still stay in touch.

21:52Football is no difference than, than radio, than TV, than, you know, it's a little more physical,
21:57more demanding on your body, but as far as just personalities and relationships that
22:01you build over the years with people, some better than others, some great, some good,
22:05some average, some you can do, go do without.
