03:24Hello and welcome to this episode of the Fro Wrestling Podcast.

03:26I am Dr. Fro.

03:27Tonight is a night we're going to talk about, honestly, my opinion, a pay-per-view level show for Monday

03:34Night Raw.

03:35I have enjoyed many episodes of Raw throughout the years.

03:38To me, this one here felt very consequential, felt big, had big fight feel to it.

03:45The matches were absolutely stellar.

03:48This was a great night of WWE wrestling, and I will never in any sense understand why WWE put this

03:56on a Raw episode.

03:57This was a PLE.

03:59That's what this was.

04:00Now, if you're looking at ratings and you're trying to draw fans in and you're competing with AEW and all

04:06this other stuff,

04:07maybe that's why.

04:08Maybe you're starting to get sick and tired of people talking about the best wrestling happening over at AEW.

04:13Maybe that's why we saw some of what we saw tonight.

04:15I don't know, but I'm going to be honest with you, and this is where I expect some tribalism.

04:19And look, if you want to give me attitude in the comments, go for it.

04:21I welcome anybody's comments, but everybody's entitled to their opinion, and I'm going to give you mine tonight.

04:26This show is reactions and analysis.

04:29I'm going to react to what I saw.

04:30I'm already starting to, losing my mind because I really, really, really like this episode of Raw.

04:35This may have been my favorite show I've seen all year, and I mean both companies.

04:40I'm not talking about PLEs.

04:41I'm talking about television programming because I understood where they were going all throughout the show,

04:46and I feel like I see where they may be headed in the near future, and all of it's very

04:52exciting.

04:53That being said, they start to show Rey Mysterio in the ring.

04:56I didn't even notice Adam Pearce follow him to the ring and get in the ring.

04:59Rey Mysterio thanking the fans.

05:01Welcome to Mexico City.

05:02This is a huge night of wrestling action, potentially seeing championship changes and everything in Mexico.

05:08They have had a very adventurous week.

05:10As we know, Stephanie Vecchera wins the WWE Women's World Heavyweight Championship in Chile over the weekend.

05:17Rey Mysterio brings her to the ring to celebrate as the new Women's World Champion,

05:24and the reception she gets is just electrifying.

05:28It was beautiful.

05:29I love seeing Rey involved.

05:31I love that he's selling the neck injury from AAA.

05:34If you didn't watch AAA, Triple Mania 34 over the weekend, two parts.

05:38Go for it.

05:38It is a fantastic, enjoyable show as well, both nights.

05:44But from there, we get an interruption by Liv and Dom.

05:47Liv and Dom not having a great weekend.

05:49You have Liv losing the Women's World Championship to Stephanie Vecchera.

05:52You have Dom losing the AAA Mega Championship to El Grande Americano.

05:57They are livid.

05:58They're in the ring, running their mouths, talking trash.

06:01And Liv didn't have her normal spark.

06:03She was clearly perturbed.

06:05Not just losing the championship.

06:07She's done that before.

06:08But this was like, I don't know, almost an envious, angry side of Liv.

06:13And I thought it was good.

06:14It added a layer to her already heelish character.

06:16From there, Dom throws out the challenge tonight.

06:20Rey Mysterio, Stephanie Vecchera versus Liv and Dom.

06:23And of course, Adam Pearce steps in right away because Rey Mysterio selling the injury with the neck brace on

06:28is not going to compete tonight.

06:29But he says there is somebody else who will.

06:32Cue the music for El Grande Americano.

06:34First appearance on Raw in months.

06:37Now as the AAA Mega Champion.

06:40And here's the thing.

06:41I will never get over how interesting it is to me that a guy who's a European dude dressed up

06:46playing a Mexican guy has gotten over so insanely well with the Mexican crowd when he's literally portraying a character

06:55that WWE created to almost make a mockery of Lucha Libre for Chad Gable when he was going to go

07:00take on all the luchadors.

07:02And now it has turned into like the golden goose.

07:04First off, it doesn't hurt that Ludwig Kaiser, the guy underneath the mask of El Grande Americano, is an absolutely

07:11phenomenal wrestler.

07:12But he is so leaning into this character that it works for him.

07:16And I love everything he's doing.

07:19Whether it's TripleMania or tonight on Raw, he is explosive.

07:23He is impactful.

07:25And I really believe that this is one step in a direction that's going to potentially put him in line

07:31to be a superstar.

07:32At the top of the card on the main roster for a very long time.

07:36Now, I don't think you move him out of AAA anytime soon.

07:39That guy is the cash cow for AAA.

07:42Everybody loves him.

07:44And he really has created enough of a following that if you are one of the television executives that were

07:50watching TripleMania and then you watch what happened tonight on Raw,

07:53there is a very good chance that these several appearances are going to lead to a television deal for AAA

07:59in the United States.

08:01And I can't wait to see that.

08:02The match itself, it was solid.

08:05I enjoyed most of it.

08:06I was a little confused why they did so much interplay male-female in the ring at the same time.

08:11And there were times where, like, El Grande Americano and Dom are going at it.

08:15And Liv is just kind of standing there.

08:17And I know they were leading up to the moment where, like, Liv slaps El Grande.

08:21And then he does the circle motion, pointing out that Vicar is behind her.

08:25And she eats a superkick.

08:26I understand all that.

08:27But Liv stood there for such an extended period of time.

08:30It kind of broke up a little bit of the flow of what was going on.

08:33I thought she should have, like, jumped on his back and gouged out his eyes or something to make it

08:37more believable.

08:38But I'm not going to complain too much.

08:39I thought the match was pretty solid.

08:41What I understand, I see why they did what they did.

08:47But the interference by first J.D. McDonough and then you see Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez come down.

08:53And all the members of the Judgment Day really destroying what was a fantastic mixed tag team match.

08:59I get it, but it's frustrating.

09:01I've seen so many run-ins by the Judgment Day.

09:04And at this point, if you are a talent, let's make believe this was real and not some booked crazy

09:08nonsense.

09:09This is where I think WWE sometimes overbooks things.

09:13We're kind of tired of Judgment Day.

09:15It's run its course.

09:16So every time they do a run-in, it almost defeats the purpose of having the group because you're pushing

09:23people away.

09:24The idea of having the group is to create compelling storylines to draw people in.

09:27I'm not excited when I see Judgment Day interfere.

09:30It makes me want to turn the channel.

09:32And I'm saying that, saying how great a show it was tonight.

09:35I never wanted to change the channel.

09:37But that doesn't mean I wasn't disappointed that we did another Judgment Day run-in.

09:40Hated every part about that.

09:42Now, I do suspect that Roxanne Perez at Worlds Collide may actually win the Reina Duranis Championship.

09:48I doubt it because La Catalina just won it over the weekend.

09:52But that's going to be a killer match.

09:53I wouldn't be surprised if we saw some Judgment Day interference there.

09:57You had it here.

09:58You have it pretty much in every match.

10:00And it makes it so you take away from their presentation.

10:04Now, again, like I said, match was solid.

10:06Loved everything about it up until the finish.

10:09And obviously, Vakir and Rey Mysterio, who also they drug Rey into the ring by the neck collar.

10:17Dom beating down his father.

10:19He hits a frog splash on his father.

10:21And then Grande Americano gets laid out.

10:23Obviously, laying waste to these three individuals is going to lead to something down the road.

10:27I don't know if that means that Rey recruits somebody like Dragon Lee and maybe Laredo Kid or something like

10:34that to take them on in another, almost like a War Games or maybe a traditional Survivor Series style match

10:40at some point, maybe at the Survivor Series.

10:42We'll have to wait and see.

10:43But there is definitely some exciting stuff going on.

10:45I just wish we'd get over all the run-ins.

10:48From there, we get the qualifying match for Money in the Bank.

10:51And I actually thought this was an interesting pairing because Big Cass and Javon Evans have a lot of history.

10:57And Austin Theory is there basically to fill out the roster.

11:00And I really believed we were going to get a lot out of Theory.

11:03And we got almost nothing.

11:04That's not to say he didn't have some good spots in the match.

11:07Actually, my particular favorite is outside the ring when he and Cass are out there.

11:10And Cass lays him out.

11:12And then Maxine Dupree gets in Big Cass' face.

11:15I thought that was an interesting angle considering it's heel-on-heel action.

11:20But Cass looked great in this.

11:22I know people and not everybody in the world is thrilled at Big Cass for being back.

11:25I actually think he's been doing some really great work.

11:28I would really like to see him wrestle some bigger guys.

11:30But then tonight you have him eat a pinfall.

11:32I don't understand that at all.

11:35Theory should have taken the fall here tonight, not Big Cass.

11:38You just allow Javon Evans, a guy who's like 175 pounds soaking wet, take out Big Cass,

11:44who you could have legitimately built as a monster heel in the main roster.

11:48And instead, now I feel like he's been jobbed out.

11:51He's an upper mid-card guy, and that's all he'll ever be.

11:54And is that really why we had all the hoopla about you guys re-signing him,

11:57for him to just become another mid-carder?

11:59Or did you want to actually put together something that could be taken very seriously?

12:03And we're all still waiting to hear if we're ever going to get Enzo to come back.

12:06I hope they do at some point.

12:07But again, I digress.

12:09Javon Evans picking up the win, cleanly pinning Big Cass.

12:13And now he'll go on to Money in the Bank,

12:16where I'm sure he'll be a focal point of all the high spots in that match.

12:19From there, a backstage segment with Jacob Fatu and the Usos.

12:23I'm kind of tired of hearing the same verbiage every week.

12:26Call the shot.

12:27Call the shot.

12:28How many times are you going to hear call the shot?

12:30I have heard, keeping it 100, about 75 times every promo.

12:36Can these guys not say anything but the same words over and over and over again?

12:41Again, the segment was short.

12:43It was necessary.

12:45My only critique on the evening, because later on in the evening,

12:49well later into the show, we're going to get the 9-4-6 having their promo.

12:53These guys had promos backstage segment and didn't do anything.

12:56I don't understand why we did that.

12:58I think the crowd there would have loved to have seen them appear after the main event or something.

13:02Now, maybe there's a dark match or something I'm not aware of,

13:05but I just thought they could have done more.

13:07I'm not upset with what they did so much as I am upset that they didn't do more.

13:11We do get the Intercontinental Championship match between Chad Gable and Dragon Lee.

13:17And here's the thing.

13:18Everything up till now, back and forth, teeter-tottering, solid show, really happy,

13:22and then this happens.

13:24This match was absolutely phenomenal.

13:28But Dragon Lee is such an underrated, underappreciated talent.

13:33Chad Gable may be the best wrestler in the world right now in terms of raw wrestling skill.

13:40These two put on an absolute clinic.

13:42And I'm going to be honest with you, every near fall, I felt blessed because I got to see more

13:47of the match

13:48and more of the match and more of the match.

13:49And then the most beautiful thing of all of it, if you're watching the match and you see all the

13:53emotion that goes on,

13:54the ending of the match, after the ankle lock, the tap out by Dragon Lee, the retention by Chad Gable,

14:02Gable's initial reaction.

14:03The referee walks over to hand him the championship belt,

14:05and he tosses it aside because he is bending over and consoling Dragon Lee.

14:10He's embracing him, patting him on the side.

14:13He ends eventually helping him up to his feet, raising his hand, pointing at each other.

14:17It was so wonderful.

14:20The embrace, him kissing him on the head, clearly sharing a very special personal message with him as they were

14:25doing all that.

14:26This, to me, was main event level matching.

14:29And I think Dragon Lee, I hope WWE understands that, like, he really could be the new Rey Mysterio.

14:36And I'm not trying, nobody will ever be Rey Mysterio, but the luchador that can legitimately be considered an underdog

14:42and take on the biggest guys in the company, put on a great match,

14:45and can actually be considered a championship contender for any championship on the roster.

14:50I can't say enough about this match.

14:52If I was just giving this match a star rating, and I'm not Dave Meltzer, 6 and 7 and 7

14:58and 3 quarter, all that stuff.

14:59It's 1 to 5. That's it.

15:01If you go over 5, if 5 is perfect, nothing's better than perfect.

15:04That's the way I look at it.

15:05This is a 5-star match.

15:06I haven't said 5-star match for anything WWE since El Grande Americano versus OG El Grande Americano.

15:13I haven't.

15:14There have been some good matches, but nothing that I thought was that good.

15:18This, for me, was that good.

15:19From there, we get a backstage promo segment, whatever, vignette with Bayley,

15:25talking about Lyra Valkyria, how selfish she is.

15:28And I really like the line at the end that she is the standard in women's wrestling.

15:33It makes me have confidence that Bayley has or will shortly sign a new contract with WWE.

15:39Conflicting reports last week.

15:41She signed.

15:42She hasn't signed.

15:42She's signed still for several months.

15:44She has her contract up in October.

15:47All over the place in terms of how people feel.

15:49I personally hope she sticks around because I think she has so much to offer.

15:53I get it.

15:54All those fresh matches in AEW, I understand people having a desire for that.

15:58But I feel like AEW has so much talent, it's hard enough to get those people on the card.

16:02WWE has the same problem.

16:04Bayley's already there.

16:04She's in a great program.

16:06And I'm sure there's other things to be done.

16:08And the way they keep bringing up all these women from NXT, that's all fresh matches for Bayley as well.

16:12And I really didn't think about that until recently.

16:14There's so much for her to do with all these new girls.

16:16And some she needs to defeat and some she needs to put over.

16:20We'll have to wait and see how it plays out.

16:21But I loved everything about this.

16:23We get the Women's Money in the Bank qualifying match.

16:27This match, I was surprised that the first entrant in the ring is the NXT Women's Champion, Kalani Jordan.

16:37I didn't pay attention to the run sheet before the show went on the air.

16:40I'm surprised Kalani Jordan was on Raw, especially debuting in a match where Lola Vice is making her debut on

16:47Raw.

16:47It almost takes a little bit away from Lola Vice.

16:50But I wasn't having a problem with it because she did so well.

16:53Raquel Rodriguez is the other one in the match.

16:55This is a solid back and forth.

16:57It goes all different directions.

16:59The athleticism of Kalani Jordan, the physicality of Raquel and Lola.

17:03This was a great match also.

17:05And I don't say that very frequently about the Women's Matches.

17:08But I did like a lot of the near falls.

17:11I liked a lot of the power moves that Raquel was putting on.

17:14I was thrilled beyond words that there was no Judgment Day interference.

17:18I really expected there to be some.

17:20But this was great, top to bottom.

17:23And Kalani Jordan obviously has a big, beautiful future in front of her.

17:26But she can't be on the Raw roster to be NXT Champion because this wouldn't make any sense.

17:31But way back, originally what bothered me was Becky Lynch won the NXT Championship and she

17:36got to keep it while she was on Raw.

17:38When Indi Hartwell won the NXT Championship and she got called up to the main roster,

17:43they forced her to vacate the NXT Women's Championship because you couldn't have that

17:46and come to Raw.

17:47When Obafemi was NXT Champion, he vacated that to be able to come to Raw.

17:52Now Kalani Jordan is going to walk there and have the championship around her waist.

17:56But she doesn't have to if she indeed is debuting on Raw and staying there as a fixture.

18:01Now if she's just there for the one-off for the show, setting up the Money in the Bank,

18:06then fine.

18:07But again, if that's all you're doing, I wouldn't have wasted her first appearance

18:11on the same night that we're doing Lola Vice.

18:13I think that that really did crowd the field, so to say, for the debuts tonight.

18:17And I didn't need that.

18:18I thought that could have done much better by not having that segment.

18:23It could have put anybody in there.

18:24You know, it could have had Jordan Grace in there, heaven forbid.

18:27I know she's supposed to be teaming with Ivy Nile, you know, and all that stuff.

18:30But yeah, I just think there was a missed opportunity here.

18:33I really do.

18:34And I would have kept Kalani Jordan for a different evening to debut if Lola was debuting tonight.

18:38We do get that backstage segment I referenced earlier from the 946.

18:42More of this like threatening gang warfare violence stuff,

18:46basically confirming what the Usos said earlier in the evening.

18:48They're going to try to get them one at a time, one, two, three.

18:52Here again, and I'll reiterate what I said earlier.

18:54In a way, you have these six individuals doing these backstage vignettes.

19:00One of the hottest feuds in the company.

19:02You're in Mexico City.

19:04We need action.

19:05There should have been more action between the Usos and Jacob Fatu and the 946.

19:12Because there was not, I feel let down a little bit in terms of that.

19:16Not that there was anything wrong with the show and not that I wouldn't have still had the segment.

19:20But it left you wanting more.

19:21And I get it.

19:22You can always do more next week.

19:24But again, this felt like a pay-per-view.

19:27It was booked like a pay-per-view.

19:29I would have liked to have seen some kind.

19:31It didn't have to be a match.

19:33Just have a brawl.

19:34One that's not so lopsided.

19:36One-sided.

19:37No lighting cars on fire.

19:38Could have had a street fight style.

19:40I don't care.

19:40But they should have done so much more.

19:42I feel like they really missed the boat here.

19:44From there we get what is the corniest thing of the entire evening.

19:48Joe Hendry's new, like, give all the belts to Joe Hendry song.

19:52Why?

19:53This song sounds ludicrous.

19:56How can we give him all the belts when the guy can barely beat Don Mysterio in the Judgment Day?

20:01I don't like what they've done with Joe Hendry since bringing him to the main roster.

20:04He should have stayed in NXT even longer.

20:07Heck, at this point he may even have been better off staying in TNA a little bit longer.

20:10Because WWE is doing nothing important with him.

20:13And that's problematic for me because I think he has a ton to offer.

20:16The video is hokey and corny.

20:18You're not going to replicate the quality that his theme music has.

20:22You're just not.

20:24I don't know.

20:25He's done a lot of funny songs in the past for different matches in the indies,

20:28Ring of Honor, places like that.

20:30But this, this felt forced.

20:32It didn't feel natural.

20:33And it really didn't do any justice for Joe Hendry.

20:36From there, another backstage segment.

20:38Becky Lynch, Stephanie Vaccaro, Becky talking in Spanish, congratulating her.

20:43And Vaccaro, putting her on the spot, saying, like, I guess you're not helping me anymore

20:47because she got laid out by Judgment Day.

20:48And she's like, you know what?

20:50After everything I did for you in Chile, I think my helping has kind of run its course.

20:55I forget how she's set up, but basically she's done helping.

20:58And that because she helped her win the championship, she wants the first shot at the title.

21:02Makes a lot of sense.

21:03But I believe WWE is moving in a different direction.

21:06I believe firmly that they're moving towards a Becky Lynch versus Liv Morgan feud,

21:10which is something I have more interest in seeing and let somebody else tangle with Stephanie Vaccaro.

21:15I don't know who.

21:16Maybe it'd be more interesting to have Roxanne Perez tangle with her.

21:19And if Roxanne Perez was able to dethrone, you know, La Primera,

21:23that would be very big because it would cause that rift.

21:26It could eventually lead to the destruction of the Judgment Day between Liv Morgan and Roxanne Perez.

21:31Don't know.

21:31We'll have to wait and see.

21:33And then the final thing of the evening, the long-awaited match, Penta versus Roman Reigns.

21:39And for the WWE Heavyweight Championship, the World Championship, I'm going to be honest with you,

21:44this was PLE quality.

21:47This was top-level stuff.

21:49These guys really went at it.

21:51They really threw down the match back and forth.

21:55They really made Penta look like a legitimate threat to that championship.

21:58Now, here's what I said in a previous episode.

22:00You know as well as I do that there is no match in WWE's near future that is going to

22:06do the kind of money

22:07that Oba Femi and Roman Reigns is going to do probably at WrestleMania.

22:12That's what Meltzer thinks.

22:13That's what we think.

22:13We've all thought that since WrestleMania, the post-show news conference,

22:17when Oba basically said that.

22:19He wasn't ready to tangle with Roman, but he would be soon, blah, blah, blah.

22:23That tells me mania.

22:24That tells you mania.

22:25That is what it is.

22:26But here's the issue.

22:28As we're watching this match, and kudos to both talents, Roman played like the textbook heel,

22:35and he did a phenomenal job of it.

22:37Penta, from the entrance with the beautiful garb to all the high spots, the Canadian Destroyers,

22:44or Mexican Destroyers.

22:45I know, I'm sorry.

22:46Petey Williams created the Canadian Destroyer.

22:48Everything's a Canadian Destroyer unless he says otherwise.

22:51The Destroyer multiple times, Roman, several of the Superman punches and the spears,

22:59and everybody's kicking out.

23:00And it was high impact, high tempo, solid wrestling action, top to bottom.

23:05Here's where I have an issue.

23:07One, I didn't expect Penta to win, even though I would have been shocked and thrilled if he did,

23:11because I think he's worth it.

23:13However, I thought this was an opportunity to integrate the 946 into Roman's current booking.

23:20We could have done more with the Usos here.

23:23I thought it was messed up that Penta almost was paying respect to Roman the entire time

23:27he was going up the aisle way, while Roman didn't really give much attention at all to

23:33Penta leaving out of respect.

23:34You're in his home country, in Mexico City.

23:37You would think Roman would show some level of respect for the fallen warrior who he defeats

23:41in the match, in what was also a phenomenal PLE-level match.

23:45That's what I mean.

23:46Several of these matches easily could have been a premium live event, and instead they're

23:50here on a free episode of Raw.

23:52This Penta-Roman match was so good.

23:55It's not Hogan versus Goldberg.

23:58I'm not saying that.

23:59But it is one of those matches where you're scratching your head going, why was this on

24:03free television?

24:05Why was Chad Gable and Dragon Lee on free television?

24:09I mean, for real.

24:10These matches were so freaking amazing.

24:14If you haven't seen them, you have to go back and watch them.

24:17I think this was a phenomenal main event.

24:19Really made Penta look strong.

24:21He was a legitimate threat all throughout the match to Roman.

24:23I did not like Roman pummeling him in the ring, saying he couldn't hang with him and then

24:27eventually winning the way he did.

24:29I thought that made Penta look a hair weaker.

24:32But whatever.

24:32I'm not the booker.

24:33I understand that.

24:34And there's complexities that go to it.

24:35But now let's get into it, because we have to.

24:38Why book this and have Roman win this and many other decisions they're doing lately?

24:42I firmly believe that Roman Reigns is now going to face LA Knight.

24:47He's going to defeat LA Knight.

24:49And then he's going to go on to Crown Jewel, where Roman Reigns is going to face Sami Zayn

24:54in a bloodline versus bloodline OG bloodline feud for that Crown Jewel championship, that

25:01ugly, disgusting belt that they made.

25:03And I honestly believe that the 946 is going to interfere and cost Roman that match against

25:09Sami Zayn.

25:10And Zayn is going to win the Crown Jewel championship in Saudi Arabia.

25:14That, to me, is why they put the belt back on Zayn over on SmackDown.

25:18It's why Roman is retaining anything he does between now and that program.

25:23I just don't see anybody taking the title off of Roman.

25:26Now, they could have scared me off tonight, and they could have switched things up and

25:29put the belt on Penta, and I would not have been upset.

25:32But I just don't think WWE looks at anybody like a cash cow like Roman Reigns.

25:36And right now, Oba is building to that level, and I think they very much want to make sure

25:41they keep Oba in the fold as the guy who takes it off of Roman, almost a passing of the

25:47torch

25:47kind of moment.

25:48So, not sure how I feel about, you know, the shifting and the hot potatoing of the WWE

25:55championship or any of that stuff.

25:57But if that's where you're headed, for Roman Sami, for Sami to get his win back, I'm on

26:03board with it.

26:04I'm in favor of it.

26:05I just wish we weren't sacrificing LA Knight to do it, and I feel like that's exactly what

26:09we're going to do.

26:10If you did the crown jewel championship and then Roman lost the championship to LA Knight

26:14only to win it back, maybe at the Rumble, I'd actually be okay with that as well, as

26:18long as Roman won the championship back early in the Rumble pay-per-view.

26:23And that way, when whoever wins the Rumble, I suspect Oba can win, Roman could come out

26:27and literally face off with him in the ring at the end of the Rumble.

26:30So, that's me future booking in my brain, trying to make things work for my sensibilities.

26:35But I don't know.

26:36We'll have to wait and see how things play out.
