00:00we waited too long we went too long it was like 24 minutes after 12 and it was like i'm
00:06gonna take
00:06one more call and then the call lasted like five minutes and then you had to play us out with
00:09music
00:10and here we are i don't know that's all right it's game day how are you i'm all right i
00:14mean
00:14it just really kind of like i'm kind of used to it anyway at this station to be quite honest
00:18with
00:18you just you're kind of rolling in and doing what everybody else is pretty normal around here to be
00:23quite and listen me too right i i've done that i i've been fine actually gave me time i know
00:28this
00:28is football we're talking about the bills i actually spent the time the last like 20 minutes
00:31listening to kevin shovel day off over in winnipeg in his press conference i was doing that and it was
00:37really interesting and then i hop on here and i connect and dan dale tells me this incredible
00:43story about a car that his dad once won by shooting that hockey puck from center ice into the little
00:48uh
00:49into the little hole wow that really happened yeah it's the car that broke down yes really i i can
00:54tell
00:54it's amazing along those same lines i'm playing in a golf tournament on monday john fuller from ub is
01:00one of the guys that i'm playing with john fuller just had to within the last six months or so
01:05uh
01:06retire a vehicle that he won by hitting a hole in one at a golf tournament wow and there is
01:12a car
01:13available in this golf tournament and he's a real golfer like i've kind of planning on john winning
01:18another car yeah pretty good amazing what happened with uh shovel day off well he was asked a lot
01:26about hellebuck obviously and he said you know he confirmed they suspended him and he said that
01:31they had been you know they tried to keep it quiet for a while it was kind of the agreement
01:35and then
01:36you know he can't control if his side hellebuck put it out there they knew that that could happen at
01:39some point um he basically said yeah we've been trying to make a trade that works for both sides
01:45he wouldn't get into the details of the teams or anything like that when people ask him about
01:49you know future assets he's like well what are the future assets you could say future assets but are
01:53they helping us now are they are they helping are they supposed to be players they're gonna help us
01:56in a couple years like who are the future assets so um it just seems like it's really at an
02:00impasse
02:00and but he totally recognizes and said that they're trying to work out a trade for him somewhere
02:05well once he's announced as suspended uh it's weird right well it's that's the bridge is burned well
02:12it's i mean he's gonna get traded they could ignore it we you know there's an informal kind
02:17of story out there that he wants to be traded and then it gets to a couple weeks ago and
02:20he's like
02:21no seriously we have asked for a trade and then the team actually respond well him not showing up
02:27and then the team responding it's going to happen he's getting traded somewhere they're not going to
02:31make complete bank on this thing because it's just a thing that has to happen so i would say that's
02:37probably better for the sabers if they are the team that ultimately winds up getting them
02:42yeah and and on the suspension part he made it clear that this is procedural basically like in
02:47the cba it says in a standard player contract if you don't report you get suspended and he said
02:51that's what they're following right now so you know um he's had they've had a lot of communication
02:55we'll see where it goes but i agree with you even listening to him this has to get done at
03:00some point
03:00and you know when is that going to be i'm really not sure obviously no one knows but then you
03:04think
03:04about it being suspended for not showing up then you then you show up like all right you're not
03:09suspended anymore no that's what i'm thinking like what if he walks in the door tomorrow you
03:13just lift the suspension i guess like even said it's not even about finance or there's nothing
03:16financial i'm like well what is a what is the point then it's just a label to put on it
03:20to make it
03:20sound more serious no we yes you quit you're fired exactly yeah that's fine all right so what's on
03:26your mind heading into the game there's been a lot of talk about detroit injuries is that a major factor
03:31here yeah it can be i mean they are they are pretty banged up especially on their offensive line
03:36um they're down like three offensive linemen two of them were playing last week and one was already
03:42out and then two of them are not going to play tonight who have been rolled out a guard and
03:46a
03:46tackle uh mahogany and miller and then you know in the secondary they're banged up as well they have
03:52two defensive backs who were on pup to start the year so not playing uh now dj reed is questionable
03:57to
03:57play in this game so yeah i i think that they're uh that's a story for them what i'm thinking
04:01about is
04:02really just these two offenses and trying to get a couple of stops here and there get a turnover
04:08that's going to be the that's going to be who wins this game most likely now look could it happen
04:13where we're talking about a 10-7 halftime after all the talk of this sure look what happened last
04:17week they hit the over by halftime um but i just look at both these offenses and the fact that
04:21both
04:21teams allowed over 30 points 30 points or more last week and you're just going to need to get
04:26one more stop than the other team one more turnover than the other team maybe i i have been thinking
04:30about thinking about those injuries to the offensive line for detroit and whether that could be an
04:37opportunity for this sort of revamped younger bills defensive line to build a little confidence
04:44get in there against a couple backups and wreck their days and build a little bit of momentum
04:49after what was sort of a shaky week one for the defense as a whole i'm curious whether you think
04:54the
04:55bills will try to sort of let's attack this offensive line and build a little bit of a rep here
05:00i do i do and part of it though is a little more circumstantial because of that owen which is
05:05because they are banged up and it is early in the season how much has this line for the lions
05:10been
05:10together how much have they communicated and now you're going into a really loud environment right
05:15so what you do is as a defensive coordinator as a defense you play games with them you do things
05:20to
05:20them to make them think because they don't have the necessary communication time on task that they
05:25would have had if they were all a full unit so you're going to probably go out there as a
05:30buffalo
05:30bills team and say let's test them let's throw pressure at them but let's do it in a unique way
05:34they can't just stand still and know where we're coming from how are they communicating it's a very
05:38loud stadium if jared goff sees something he has to kind of communicate to his line now all of a
05:43sudden the clock is running down right and now you know okay i can pin my ears back because that's
05:47three two one i'm off so i do think that that's got to be a part of the equation for
05:50the bills
05:51the other part too is that there's not much film on this defense so even if you are an offensive
05:56line
05:56that is a cohesive unit uh there's not a lot to look at anything you have to rely on what
06:01they did
06:02in either the preseason plus one game or throw that out and look at just one game jim leonard's
06:08been a defensive coordinator for one nfl football game and that's what you're trying to prepare for
06:13i would imagine that adds to the degree of difficulty for sure you know these thursday night games guys
06:19and that we used yeah we we used to have a lot of back in the day there were a
06:24lot of there were
06:25there were some blowouts so the league kind of made a conscious effort to go more towards divisional
06:28games and say and the reason is because teams are a little more familiar with each other they play
06:31each other twice a year they um you know their personnel so let's let's see if maybe we can have
06:36some closer games more competitive games well this isn't one of them this is a non-conference game now
06:42i know they've just played two years ago but generally they only play every four years
06:45they have a different defensive coordinator over and by the way kelvin shepherd used to play for the
06:49bills right yeah uh he took over for aaron glenn who's now with the jets you have a new head
06:53coach
06:53and offensive coordinator and offensive coordinator but you know play call is the same i should say
06:57offensive coordinator staff defensive coordinator for the bills a lot of things have changed they're
07:01not familiar with each other neither of these teams are i will say this joe brady worked for dan
07:05campbell in new orleans when they were there for a little while he kind of understands him a little
07:09bit he said he knows the kind of offense he wants to run the style of play that's that's going
07:13to get
07:13you so far so you're right the unfamiliarity is going to probably cause both teams to
07:18keep it to simple keep it simple to react like okay let's keep it simple and see what they're
07:23doing first the first you know few series might be like a feeling out process a little like
07:27like a couple boxers in the ring i'm going to punch you a few times here or there to see
07:31how
07:31you react to that and then go from there as the game goes on all right that that's that's good
07:36to
07:37know too i did not know that brady had a little bit of a history with campbell there that's that's
07:40valuable let's get to the bills side of the injury coin here and get to the barnes firm injury report
07:45which is brought to you by the barnes firm if you've been injured in a crash called the barnes
07:49firm 1-800-8-million what are we looking like on that side of the ball there for the bills
07:54sal i know
07:55there's some concern about cole bishop yeah he is questionable to play in this game same thing with
08:00ty johnson um same thing with tj sanders now the bad news is you have three guys questionable and of
08:06course one of them is very important to you and that's cole bishop and i'm going to flip around what
08:10i
08:10said about the lions offensive line and say about the bill secondary the communication has to be
08:15better and it's going to be more challenging tonight because it's a louder environment tonight
08:18than it was on on uh in houston because when the bills are on the when the i'm sorry lions
08:24offense
08:24is on the field the crowd is going to be going crazy and really loud well guess what that means
08:28your defenders are on the field and they're going to have to have non-verbal communication and that was
08:33one area where they weren't great last last week and they have to be better and now that's more
08:36challenging and if you take cole bishop out now you're also dealing with dipping into your depth
08:40and we know damar hamlin as i've said many times he we know what he is he's a backup safety
08:44he comes
08:45in in dime situations not a guy that you want to have out there for 100 of the plays 17
08:50games because
08:51he's not as athletic he's not gonna make as many plays so we'll see if cole bishop plays um ty
08:57johnson's
08:57an interesting one because he hasn't he didn't practice since august 8th but then now he's got a week of
09:01practicing did they just hold him back last week and say he's ready to go on thursday i was out
09:06at practice on tuesday i thought he was looking pretty good the way he was moving but now the
09:10bills have another 10 days after tonight do they still back off him a little bit does frank or get
09:15elevated we'll find out a little bit later and then tj sanders even if he is um able to play
09:19i'm
09:20not sure if he'd be active in this game they do have you know six defensive linemen they rotate
09:23what's five five five for the game six on the roster sorry what's the the rule or protocol on when
09:29uh the uh activations or elevations i should say come out so the the teams have to file them
09:36with the league by 4 p.m today if the teams want to release those at 4 p.m sometimes
09:40they do or
09:41shortly after we will get those or you'll get them from somebody who knows you know in league office
09:45it gets well put out there whatever uh we might not know that until any time between 4 p.m
09:50and the
09:50time inactives come out and inactives won't be out until 90 minutes before kick which is standard
09:55procedure uh for any game kickoff tonight is at 8 15 so inactives tonight will come out at 6 45
10:01p.m
10:02all right man we'll uh we'll hear from you later today and then all night and then a lot tomorrow
10:07like there's gonna be a lot of sal coming up because the bills are playing yeah thank you very
10:10much for uh jumping in with us and we'll talk to you soon all right guys thanks a lot all
10:13right
10:13thank you there's al capaccio brought to you by the barns firm the injury report update brought to
10:18you by the barns firm if you've been injured in a crash call the barns firm 1-800-8 million
