05:14when you move on from Anthony Lynn or you move on from John Morton who calls the place Dan Dan
05:21Campbell all right he's an offensive guy if you move on from Calvin Shepard who's going to be who's
05:27gets the promotion because I don't I I know we talked about Jim Schwartz and we've talked about
05:33some other names that you could add as but you're only going to add them as consultants not as a
05:39defensive play caller this is odd to be two weeks in you've installed your defense and to let go the
05:45play caller but it's a conversation we should be having because it's been that bad they've given
05:50up more yards through two games since any Lions team going back to the 0 in 16 season that's the
05:56last time it's been this bad the first two weeks of the year so when you're talking about that yeah
06:00you have to talk about hot seat and when you're talking about an undisciplined defense it's not
06:05just hey you get an open receiver with no one within 10 or 15 yards of them that's a blown
06:11coverage and
06:12occasionally throughout the course of a year that's going to happen you certainly don't want
06:15it to happen against Josh Allen or a quarterback that's going to make you pay every single time
06:20but when you're talking about undisciplined it is undisciplined because it doesn't sound like or
06:26doesn't feel like the rushers were told you got to stay in your rush lanes how many times did we
06:33watch Hutch who we all love and we think he's a really good to elite defensive end if he continues
06:40to attack the inside of that tackle and doesn't have anybody outside of them yeah like it's it's
06:46not about some games are yes we've however you can get to the quarterback just get to him in this
06:53one
06:54because Josh Allen is an alien and he is very unique it's not always about getting home and getting the
07:01sack it's about making sure that he stays in the pocket so you at least remove one of the things
07:07that
07:07he does extremely well the first drive of the game that's that's that's what you script on
07:13offense right yeah defensively too you're going to put out a look right away that you like you got
07:19no contain on the QB and because they were in man their linebackers were running with running backs
07:25and tight ends and had their back to Josh Allen which meant when Josh Allen did predictably escape
07:30the pocket there was nobody looking at him to come up and make a tackle he ran for 40 yards
07:36on four runs in the opening drive of the game that was the installed game plan from Calvin Shepard
07:42and it what it appears is that what you had going on with the front seven or at least the
07:48front four
07:49was not was not married to what you were doing on the back end just what I was going to
07:54say it's
07:55got to be in sync and that's without taking into account just the flat-out blown coverages by a veteran
08:00secondary did they think Josh Allen wasn't going to run certainly how it felt when that game started
08:06you asked okay well if they make a change like if this doesn't get better they'll have to make a
08:10change right two members of this Lions coaching staff have been defensive coordinators in the NFL
08:16but albeit maybe a decade ago yes Casey Rogers and Jim O'Neill have both technically held the title
08:21of defensive coordinator

08:32one win the Saints looked good in Baltimore they did they came away with a win that's the same sad
08:39story for Baltimore though these double-digit blown leads at home it doesn't look like it's a John
08:44Harbaugh problem it looks like it's a Baltimore problem Derrick Henry five carries in the entire
08:49second half think only one on back-to-back three and outs while they were sitting on a lead
08:54and that's not take away from the Saints who clearly have this no-quit attitude and they were
08:58a team preseason that a lot of people believed could challenge for their division and sneak in the
09:02playoffs I'm just not in the business of like we got to clean up our issues I'm not going to
09:09feel
09:09better because other people are playing well does that make sense yeah and so you could look at it and
09:14go well you should get a little more credit for that win against New Orleans and maybe it plays
09:18out that way where that's that it actually looks like a good win and then you go to the flip
09:23side
09:23and say well Josh Allen's going to do that to a lot of teams and he will but a lot
09:28of teams don't
09:29necessarily have the same aspirations or goals that we thought that this team had because you've got
09:35you've got to adjust those expectations we tried to do that a little bit on Friday and a lot of
09:39people
09:40were you know some were saying well don't overreact don't overreact the expectation is still
09:45that you win the division and the expectation is still that you're a postseason team but that's
09:53where the expectations end yeah you and me we're unified in that in that this should still be a
09:59playoff team we're not going to fly off the handle to that degree with this schedule with this offense
10:03and this offense and this offensive line getting right at some point Blake Miller there was reports
10:07he would have played if the game had been a Sunday to Sunday they should have him back with 10
10:12days
10:12between games yeah he'll be out there instead of Larry Borum and Cade Mays looking like what right
