00:40Now, Giorgia Maloney's Italy is all set to introduce measures to ban burqas and niqabs in schools.
00:48Prime Minister Maloney has vowed that the move to ban Islamic face and body covering will be a central issue
00:54in next year's general election.
00:57The Italian Prime Minister argued that no one in Italy should be able to decide that a young woman must
01:03hide her face in the name of tradition.
01:07The measure will soon be presented to a cabinet meeting to legally establish a maximum number of foreign students per
01:13class.
01:14It also requires parents of foreign students facing serious difficulties integrating into the school system to learn Italian and bans
01:23burqas and niqabs in school.
01:25In Italy, no one in the name of a real or supposed tradition can decide that a young woman must
01:31hide herself.
01:34Maloney has also vowed to increase cap on the number of foreign students in classrooms.
01:39This proposal comes as a 30% limit on foreign students per class and school already exists.
01:47Maloney outlined the proposed changes at a gathering of the youth wing of her Nationalist Conservative Brothers of Italy party.
01:54Italy Prime Minister also plans to make Italian language lessons compulsory for parents or foreign students having serious difficulties integrating
02:03into the school system.
02:07If there is only one child in a class who does not understand Italian, that child will likely be able
02:13to learn the language and integrate quickly with the help of classmates and teachers.
02:18However, if the number of children who don't understand a language becomes large, or even the majority, that is no
02:25longer integration.
02:26It is neglect.
02:29However, the proposed measure in Italy still needs to go through the legislative process before it becomes a law.
