Police have widened their investigation into sexual offence allegations against industrialist R Veeramani and two of his associates after identifying multiple victims. Investigators are examining whether the alleged abuse dates back to 2003 and whether vulnerable girls were specifically targeted. The Supreme Court has ordered a fresh investigation into the 2012 rape and murder of a college student in Karnataka’s Dharmasthala, widely known as the Soujanya case. A political showdown also erupted in the Karnataka Assembly over the rendition of the national song, *Vande Mataram*, after the state government stopped its official playback following the first two stanzas. All this and more from the South on *Super 6* today with Akshita Nandagopal.

00:05Hello and welcome. Good evening. You're watching Super 6 here on India Today. I'm Akshra Tana
00:09and the Gopal. Over the next one hour, we're getting you the day's top stories. As always,
00:15we will focus first on the big South stories of the day. So we've got lots lined up for you
00:20over the next one hour. As we wrap up all that's happening across the country, we'll also put the
00:26spotlight on the Asian Games and how our athletes are doing at the Asian Games in Japan. So those
00:33stories much more coming your way. What's our top focus here on Super 6? It's a story that India
00:39Today picked up. It's a story that sent shockwaves across the country of who's being referred to as
00:46Tamil Nadu's Epstein. 84-year-old Granite King Veeramani has been taken into custody under the
00:52Boxo Act. Seven to eight victims have spoken out. Questions being asked of how he was shielded
00:59for so long. We'll get you all of those details, a breakdown of really what he's accused of
01:04and how did he manage to get away for so long. Let's begin with the headlines.
01:14Horrific incident comes to light in Bihar. Minor girl and her friend groped,
01:18trashed in Jammui District. Three minor accused arrested in the case.
01:23SIT probe launched, searched for more accused.
01:31IIT Bombay Faculty Forum stages campus protest in support of Professor Surya Narayana,
01:36who was removed from deanship. Outrage over death of second-year student Sahil.
01:53He's being called Tamil Nadu's Jeffrey Epstein. 84-year-old Granite Baron Veeramani has been
02:00arrested in a Poxo case. This happened two weeks ago. And yet the shocking details of the cover-up,
02:05the manner in which such serious allegations were just thrown aside, are emerging today.
02:10We've learned that over seven women have been identified as victims. They were minors when the
02:15crime happened. They were from economically weaker sections, so he could exploit and get away.
02:21His accomplice, a woman named Shanti, would find girls from across Chennai between the age of 12
02:28and 16, so he could sexually assault these children. He had a house in the heart of Chennai in
02:34Tenambit with this one sole reason of targeting young girls, of sexually assaulting them and getting
02:41away with it. He'd pay them money reportedly. He'd give them gifts. Exactly the Epstein playbook,
02:47essentially. But here's what's truly shocking. You know now the details of the kind of crimes this
02:53man committed. And yet there were some who tried to shield him. In October 2025 is when a lot of
02:59these details emerged. A pen drive with video evidence against Veeramani was handed over.
03:05In five months, the cops closed the case. Why? They said there was a lack of evidence.
03:11That the video wasn't clear, they said. They said neighbours didn't speak out. And so there was
03:16no evidence against this monster. And so in five months, case closed. Despite the horrifying details,
03:22I have given you of what he did to those young girls, how he exploited them.
03:28The question that therefore will come up, who helped Veeramani get away for so long?
03:32Who got this case closed in a matter of five months? And was there political pressure
03:37on cops? Did cops pocket money on their own to make this case go away for Veeramani?
03:50The Poxo case against Tamil Nadu industrialist, our Veeramani, is widening.
03:56India Today has accessed key details of the probe. Our investigation has traced the rented
04:02house where the granite baron allegedly sexually abused minors. The initial probe suggests multiple
04:10minors were allegedly assaulted by Veeramani and two others.
04:15This particular residence was reportedly used by Veeramani and two others who were involved
04:21in this particular heinous, unforgivable crime of minors being sexually assaulted. Three people have
04:28been arrested right now. Veeramani, Shanti and Mahendra Simman all involved in this and because of one
04:34particular pen drive that carried the video evidence.
04:38After the India Today expose, Chief Minister Vijay has taken cognizance of the report.
04:44He has ordered a detailed probe and directed police to ensure that no culprit is spared. The case has
04:51also triggered a political slugfest. State law minister has also accused former Chief Minister
04:57M.K. Stalin of attempting to hush up the probe. The DMK has hit back, alleging that Veeramani funded the
05:04TVK.
05:08C.M. has ordered for a high-level investigation that there is no C.M. has instructed the police
05:14department. There should not be any labs and definitely all procedures need to be followed.
05:18And definitely whoever has been involved in this need to be taken very strict action.
05:22Definitely this was, we straight away accused the previous government and then Chief Minister
05:31Mr. M.K. Stalin. Because I don't think without his instructions, this would have put on hold.
05:35The case first surfaced in October 2025. The police were handed a pen drive containing a video
05:53that allegedly showed a minor girl being sexually assaulted. Police identified Veeramani as the man
05:59in the video. An F.I.R. was registered against him. But initially, police sought to close the case,
06:06citing the inability to identify the victim. A special POCSO court rejected the closure report
06:12and ordered further investigation. And now, with Chief Minister Vijay ordering a fresh probe,
06:18the Veeramani case has returned to the spotlight.
06:30Such a massive cover-up. And yet today is when you're actually getting details of this. In October
06:362025, when this case had come to the fore, nobody really knew. This granite baron, Veeramani,
06:43is extremely influential. He's a prominent figure in India's granite industry. And his influence extends
06:49well beyond the business that he runs. He's headed major industry bodies, including the Federation of
06:55Indian Granite and Stone Industry, the World Natural Stone Association, academia and business
07:00chambers as well. From VIT University, Anna University linked initiatives. He's got links to all of that.
07:08The Indo-Russian, Indo-American chambers of commerce, a wide institutional network spanning industry,
07:13government, education and business. The reason I'm showing you this is to highlight the kind of
07:18influence that he wields. But the biggest question surround the initial police probe. There's five
07:24months where the police took it up and then let it go, let him off. Police cited gaps in evidence,
07:31failure to recover the original footage and the inability to identify the victim. By original
07:36footage, I'm referring to that pen drive that I mentioned earlier, which was handed over to the
07:40police. The special COXO court later rejected the report and ordered a fresh investigation.
07:45So essentially, if not for the court, we would have never found out about this case.
07:50So what went wrong? I'm going to bring in Pramod Madhu for more details really on what the
07:55investigation has thrown up so far. And Pramod, besides the sordid details that have emerged of
08:00what this man did, of how he committed these crimes, the bigger question right now is over the
08:05cover up and how for five months the police essentially did supposedly an investigation and
08:12then discarded of this case. Well, that's the shocking part over here,
08:16in fact, the important aspect is that like once we came to know of the case, this particular issue
08:20was not highlighted. It was just like a one-liner earlier, but sensibly, like, you know, it was
08:24something that cannot be just like that discarded because imagine a case being investigated for
08:29nearly five months goes to the POXO special court and the judge is the one who claims like,
08:34how can you just simply, you know, ask for a closure on this? You have to go, can go ahead
08:38and,
08:38you know, investigate it further? And this is when all these informations come out. So we started
08:42asking these important cases. On one side, the case definitely is turning into a political issue,
08:47but at the same time, the important aspect is that what about the dedicated officers for this,
08:52the IT, Y squad and such? Why did they were not able to get any kind of information? We have
08:56reports
08:57of them going ahead and trying to talk to people for the sake. It looks almost like a kind of
09:02an
09:02eyewash kind of thing. But however, after the involvement of the court, a second investigation,
09:07which happens after the regime change completely takes a different change. And now we have a
09:12really, really, like a seriously big person, a politically influential person who has been
09:16arrested with two more people. That's the shocking part. And for this development alone,
09:20it only took 40 days. Imagine the early investigation was up to 50, sorry, five months. And this complete
09:26investigation has gone ahead and this kind of development occurred within 40 days. That's a
09:30bigger question. And Dakshita, the same questions that we started asking earlier, now the law minister
09:34has also put forward. We also asked the law minister as to what kind of action would be taken
09:38against the, some kind of like accountability must be there over the earlier police team which
09:43investigated. And he said that will definitely be investigated as well. And as we know, a committee
09:47will also be soon to be formed by the police itself to go ahead and find out whether there were
09:51any
09:51kind of like lapse over that investigation or any delay tactics was there. However, TVK now clearly
09:57straight away points out at DMT stating that it is because of political influence here, Arakshita.
10:02Okay, so a lot of politics that's also playing out in this particular case. Can I just highlight
10:07though, Pramod, that the reason, and we must give this shout out, the reason we're actually seeing a
10:12discourse today about this particular case, the reason it's in the spotlight today is because of
10:17one judge, the special POCSO court judge S. Padma, who said nothing doing, there will be no closure
10:23report in this case. We must investigate this case. That's what's led to all of these details
10:28emerging. That's what's led to us being one step closer at least towards justice for all of these
10:34victims. If not for her, this case would have been buried. And the man we're showing on our screens,
10:38the monster, the 84-year-old granite baron, would be enjoying life right now. So we must recognize
10:45the fact that this one judge has set the ball rolling as far as justice goes. Thanks very much,
10:51Pramod, for joining us with those details. Let me open this up. Joining us on this broadcast,
10:55we've got Mr. Suman C. Raman, political analyst, Harish Muhammad Ibrahim, as well as Felix Gerald,
11:00national spokesperson of the TVK. Mr. Suman C. Raman, I'd like to begin with you. You know,
11:04for the last many weeks, there's been a lot of talk about this particular case. This should have
11:08been happening years ago. Unfortunately, now is when we've actually found out that something like
11:12this even happened in Tamil Nadu. When there's clear lapses on the part of the police, sir,
11:18in the investigation, would you deem it to be political pressure directly?
11:24Look, we have to find out who wanted this case covered up. Clearly, somebody wanted to cover it
11:29up. Now, whether it is at the police level or whether it was at the political level is what
11:35the investigation needs to be, needs to establish. And in fact, I will go a step further. And I would
11:40say
11:40that this case should be handed over to the CBI for the simple reason that very senior state police
11:46officials who are currently in service are the people against whom the inquiry would logically
11:52have to be. How impartial would the state police be when they are effectively investigating some of
11:58their own bosses? The police don't investigate the police very clearly. Yeah, exactly. So I think
12:04that this case is a fit case for being handed over to the CBI for them. But clearly, one thing
12:10is
12:10very clear. The more and more the evidence that keeps coming out, it is crystal clear that somebody
12:17tried to cover it up in February. They filed clearly saying that we can. Now they are hiding
12:25under the fig leaf of saying we never asked for the case to be closed. We only said that there
12:29is
12:29no evidence. And, you know, that if there is any fresh evidence, that is a standard format for all
12:36cases which are closed. That is what is the way, you know, the police says to the court. So I
12:43think it is
12:43an absolutely shocking lapse. And it's hardly happened six, seven months ago. Yeah. How was it allowed to
12:50happen? Did nobody either at the DGP of police at that time did not know about this? Did the, you
12:59know,
13:00could such a thing have been closed just at the local police level? I mean, that the mind boggles if
13:08something like that could have happened. I find that hard to believe, sir. I mean, here is someone
13:11who is so influential, who is so influential. I find that very hard to believe.
13:17It is not possible, Akshita, that the local police, the inspector of the local station or the
13:24investigating officer could have had the guts to go ahead and file an attempt, I mean, try to close
13:30the case. So clearly, there are higher officials involved, who they are, whether there was any,
13:38you know, money exchange for these favors, as is being alleged in the, in some sections of Tamil
13:45media and some YouTube channels. All of these need to be investigated. And it cannot be investigated by
13:51the state police with any level of fairness, because some of those who would potentially could
13:55potentially be accused are their own bosses. So how is the state government, you know, just saying
14:00that we will get to the bottom of this? It's extremely unlikely. And I would appeal to the
14:06state government to quietly hand this over to the CBI. Mr. Felix Gerald, your opening comments,
14:12why, sir, is the TV case suggesting that there was political pressure, that there was political
14:16influence? This could have been a handful of corrupt cops at play who decided to pocket some money
14:21money and go ahead and allow him to get away. You're right. See, there is a, some kind of a
14:30compromise, whether it is political or money or the police, uh, uh, nexus with, uh, Vera money,
14:37whatever it may be. But the government under chief minister, Joseph Vijay, we are very much firm.
14:45Even last Friday, chief minister had a meeting with the high level officers and he said, don't leave
14:51anybody. Okay. And this government is very keen and that we have been telling zero, uh, compromise,
14:58zero tolerance on, on crime against women and children. And this, we are committed and, uh,
15:05we need not to go for CBI because chief minister himself is personally interested. And he had spoken
15:11to the, uh, police team more than two, twice on this particular issue. So no, none of them can,
15:19can be escaped, right? That, that, uh, it can be anybody. It can be, uh, politicians or, uh,
15:25bureaucrats or policemen or policewomen, whoever it is. They, they all will be brought to justice.
15:31No, sir, that's good to know. And I'm glad, I'm glad the chief minister is personally intervening.
15:35The question, however, that's being asked, sir, is that the police is investigating here and the
15:40police is investigating the police? Well, the leadership is very clear. The leadership
15:46is very firm to expose everyone. Even if the CBI also, they are also police. See, but the
15:51thing is, if chief minister himself has given a clear cut instruction, nobody can, uh, you
15:58know, disobey him. Okay. Mr. Sumansi Raman has a quick point. I'm sorry. Akshita, the point
16:04is not about whether the police today would do a honest job or not. Even assuming they
16:10did, tomorrow, if there are political links, the opposition will say that this is a witch
16:17hunt. They will just claim that they are being victimized and this is a political witch hunt.
16:22And whereas if the government hands over the case to the CBI, they can say, look, this
16:27has got nothing to do with us. The CBI is inquiring into it. And this is a heinous crime.
16:31And therefore they have come to these conclusions. That is the reason. For the credibility of this
16:36investigation, it needs to be taken out of the state government.
16:40Now, the state government itself is very clear. We are, see, imagine a chief minister spending
16:46two days, two times on this particular issue. He has called everybody from chief secretary to the
16:51commissioner of police, DGP, everybody and brief. So that is the amount of commitment that we have
16:56because it is the problem and it is C. Nobody will have the heart to take bribe or to close
17:06such a case. It's involved young children, downtrodden, Dalit, marginalized. How can a police officer
17:14or somebody can be influenced on this? And if you see the closure report, you will literally
17:20be locked. It's completely, it's a pathetic report they have filed to the court. And this
17:27has to be exposed. Whoever it is, see, he may have a lot of money. He cannot show his age.
17:33And see, imagine if it is unnoticed, how many young kids would have been exploited. So that
17:40way the current government is very, very clear and we will not compromise and we will expose
17:47everyone behind this.
17:49Whether political influence, whether there was political pressure as a matter that's
17:53still being investigated. But Harish Mohammed Ibrahim, let's turn the tables around. And
17:57if something like this happened under the current government, there would be questions asked
18:01of the government, whether it's a case of custodial torture, whether it's a case of law in order,
18:05whether it's a case of a crime, whether there's, you know, a clearly lacking police investigation,
18:11questions are always asked of the government in power then, of the party in power, sir.
18:18Yes, of course. And I want to reiterate the same point which you have raised. It is such
18:23a heinous crime and should anyone who is a perpetrator or orchestrator who helped to do such a heinous
18:31crime should be reprimanded and brought behind the bars at any given point of view. There is no second
18:37thought about it. Having said that, the case has been filed during the DMK period, October 2025.
18:45And then following that, the two months of crime investigation was happening at that point of time.
18:52And the POKSO case was registered during the same DMK period of time. And by Jan, the election commission
19:00have taken over the entire states with the status code, the election code of contact. So the government
19:06which is back then have done their job with all kinds of primacy evidence, which they had at that
19:14point of time. But having said that, if whoever is responsible at this point of time, even after
19:21during the election of three to four months, and how they wanted to close this report with saying that
19:27whoever it may be, who is fabricating all the evidences, who are going to destroy all the evidences to
19:33make sure Mr. Viramani is safe in the hands of law and order should be punished without not even an
19:42iota of doubt. But whether the same yardstick is going with your query, I want to put the same
19:48yardstick to the current TVK government, where there is a Sri Vaidundan MLA, Mr. Sarawandan has been
19:55accused by our own party member of the TVK with the molestation charges. And in a way, another TVK
20:03functionary accusing of the TVK district secretary of a molestation charges. One second, let me complete.
20:10So if the same yardstick has to be done for all the women, whomever it may be, whether it is
20:16DMK period,
20:17or whether it is TVK or whether it is ADMK period, what kind of crime which is happening against
20:24children or women should be taken to the same yardstick? So it shouldn't be part that the TVK
20:30member is doing such kind of molestation shouldn't be brought back to the justice system.
20:35No, 100%.
20:36One second, one second, let me complete. So that is totally fallacy. And that kind of apprehension
20:42should be stopped with this current TVK government. Let them go ahead and investigate
20:46the previous cases against Giramani. Because there has been a case where women for about 50 years
20:53is accusing. There has been a molestation happening at 1989. So these kind of longstanding
20:59criminals should be behind the bars for eternal. I'm glad you've said that. I'm glad you've said that.
21:05And sir, we will get to your allegations against the TVK in just a bit. I just want to ask
21:10you about
21:11what happened in those five months. Did you read the closure report, Mr. Harish Abrahim?
21:15Were you satisfied with what was mentioned in that?
21:17That is what I said. The current DMK, the predecessors of the DMK government have done the case
21:24by registering the POPSO Act till the primary case evident. But there has been an allegation
21:30leveled against the then commissioner, then joint commissioner and another deputy commissioner
21:34in all the social media and YouTube channels that they have got the money as a ransom
21:40to leave this culprit. So if that has to be extreme-minded, if that has to be investigated,
21:45then please go with all your length and breadth across the board and make sure whoever is the
21:50culpable in this previous trial. One second.
21:54No, one second. I will say this. I will say this, sir. What they're saying on all these YouTubers are
21:59saying all of that, you know, that's in the realm of speculation. We're not going to go into that
22:03because till we get concrete information that this is what happened.
22:06No, until there is a primary case.
22:09There was a sabotage. There was a sabotage attempt in this case. That is very clear,
22:17whether it is money or political interference. No, we don't know the nature of that sabotage.
22:21It's a law. Let the law take its own course.
22:24See, look at the kind of approach. See, whenever there is a, whenever DMK is in power,
22:32you know an anonymous case, what happened. And one, one, only Gyanasegaran was arrested.
22:38Nobody knows who is the other man he was in touch with. And there was one, one person from,
22:43uh, if I remember, uh, his wife, he came and gave up, uh, it became a big sensational. His own,
22:52his, his husband was forcing her to be, uh, even close to some of the DMK minister.
22:57There was no case file. In fact, the, the victim was harassed and DMK conducted a, uh, uh, uh,
23:05public meeting against that particular woman. So this is the, so whenever the DMK was in power,
23:11uh, they always, they always help the criminals. They will not stand with the victims. Okay.
23:17Now he is saying that DMK supporters are saying some kind of, uh, you know, rumors.
23:23Okay. So that is not the case. We are very, very much clear.
23:27No, I think the TVK there is referring to the Anna University case and the investigation.
23:31Let me, let me, let me, let me bring that. Uh, Mr. TVK spokesperson, uh, want to, uh, spread as
23:37usual his
23:38lies and the case was registered within, for within a single day and the culprit has been
23:45mapped within one second. No, no, no, no, not at all. Not at all. He's giving a,
23:48for passing permission. Okay, you, you send me, you, you, you, after, after, you know. Sir, sir,
23:54we heard you, we heard you. Sir, you asked me, I am answering you. You asked, you asked me,
24:00I am answering you. Your time will come. Your time will come. You answer to me.
24:03I will get my, you will give my time. Okay, okay. I will take my, my own time. You, you
24:06put an order, you put an order.
24:07Sir, hold on, hold on. Okay, hold on, hold on. One second.
24:08Okay, hold on, hold on. One second. Why he is, why he is so frustrated?
24:11Sir, there's no, one second. You're giving all kind of false information sitting in the national media.
24:16Okay, Harish sir, just give us ten seconds. Harish, Harish.
24:19Just go ahead and respond first to what Harish sir has said. Go ahead.
24:21No, that is wrong. What he is saying is absolutely lie.
24:25I haven't even said anything. After, after, after media started writing about,
24:30Harish sir, one second. One second. I'll give you your time as well.
24:33The FAR was leaked. Nobody can hear each other if you talk over each other.
24:37Just give me a moment. The reason why I don't come is because you don't allow to give a response.
24:41Harish sir, just hold on. I'll give you your time. I gave you uninterrupted first three minutes to respond.
24:46Please, sir. Felix sir, respond and then I'll bring in her.
24:48The FAR leaked. The FAR police, they actually leaked the FAR. The name, the victim name was published.
24:54And the, the, if you read the FAR, you cannot even, you know, it's so vulgarly written.
25:00The FAR used all kind of, you know, the...
25:04Ani University case.
25:05Ani University I'm talking about. So that is the commitment of, the amount of commitment
25:09DMK has for, for saving the women. But they can take this case, for example, how fast,
25:15how speedy the government is working. Okay. I can assure you one thing. Nobody can be escaped.
25:20it can be a politician it can be a police officer it can be whoever it is none of them
25:25because CM is
25:27very strong very strong very very committed on this okay sir i've given you your time now let
25:32this monster this monster cannot he won't get away that's your assurance okay harish sir
25:39as usual mr felix is spreading all kind of his fallacy his lies on a national television
25:46let me respond to one another university case when the issue has been reported at the kotur
25:52police station on the second day the culprit has been mapped and with all kind of bns section
25:59the report has been leaked with the nsdc which is controlled by the it and information ministry
26:06under the home minister and when the crpc and the bns system switch over of the case happened
26:14the report has been leaked the fir has been leaked and it has been reprimanded at that point of time
26:19so don't say that the dmk government is behind that and the culprit have been mapped immediately
26:25with all the scientific evidence well sir as a patient civility please so all the scientific
26:32evidence have been collected which has been documented and made sure that case has been
26:39getting the light within six months under the case and the culprit have been sent to the judicial
26:45part then the police investigation happened and the case been closed with proper judgment within
26:51of six months with the post-trail court okay and and you have another hand you have another hand
26:57the devk government have come almost four months now this man is this man is not he cannot claim
27:04himself as a journalist because he's hiding the facts i haven't interfered he's hiding the facts
27:12you're not a journalist you're a stooge of dmk you're a stooge of dmk you're a stooge you're a
27:27stooge you're paid by dmk you're living with the money that dmk throws on you
27:41okay let's take this down let's take this down let's maintain some civility in this debate please
27:45mr sumansi raman i'm going to come to you you waited patiently go ahead to to click two quick points
27:51yeah one arisa hold on please the tvk government needs to be congratulated for having resurrected
28:00this case and has launched a what at least up to now appears to be a proper investigation
28:08having said that now i don't know why mr harish is getting so you know excited about the you know
28:17what what has happened clearly there has been a cover-up the only issue is at what level the cover
28:22-up
28:23has been that's the only question which remains to be found but the point really is there
28:30do not appear to have been any red lines during the previous government and that is a matter of
28:36concern here is a case where children have been sexually assaulted what can be more heinous than that
28:44and somebody whether it is at the police level or whether it is the political level
28:49has clearly tried to cover it up now i don't know but today for instance the communist parties have come
28:55out strongly so now more and more political pressure is coming uh to sort of get to the bottom of
29:03what
29:03really happened and why they said that when the present team was able to in less than three to four
29:10weeks recover the original footage identify the victim identify more victims and record their statement
29:18why did an investigation that lasted five months not achieve any of these objectives unless they
29:25were trying not to find it no you look at the closure report the neighbors didn't mention any movement
29:32in the house i mean just imagine that absolutely it's a it's a shocking indictment of the of the police
29:50no i you know what stands out for me is the closure report how brazenly it was written and how
29:55they
29:55possibly thought that this will do that with this nothing's going to happen that this case will be
30:00raptor which is why i come back to the point that if not for that special boxer court judge if
30:06not
30:07for her if not for her we would never be talking about this story i'm glad she stepped up i'm
30:12glad
30:12she said nothing doing you're going to reopen this case thank you very much mr sumansi raman mr felix
30:17gerald and harish mohammad ibrahim for joining me on this broadcast we said this on india today earlier i
30:23will say it again that this is a story we will continue to track and put the focus on as
30:28far as the
30:28investigation goes the police may be investigating the police right now that may not seem as the ideal
30:33situation but we will put the spotlight on it and ensure it's headed in the right way we will look
30:39for
30:39names of those involved in the cover-up as much as the crime let's move on and talk about the
30:45big
30:45showdown that took place in the karnataka assembly today over one day matram it's been a big political
30:51hot potato across the country and in karnataka now in the assembly when proceedings kicked off the congress
30:58government ended the rendition of one day matram after two stanzas that's been their stand bjp mlas
31:03however continued singing the remaining verses here's what happened
31:11from parliament to karnataka streets and now the karnataka assembly one day matram is once again at
31:22the heart of a political showdown on monday the assembly opened its session with the national song
31:28but the congress government stopped after the first two stanzas the bgp refused to stop there
31:35and continued singing the remaining stanzas inside the house the congress says it opted for a shorter
31:42rendition if i'm not wrong the other four stanzas where if if i could read if i can remember it
31:48was
31:48told by rabindana tagore only whether to be continued or not because the other four standards does not
31:54include because there is an issue where other minorities in those time they had made an objection
31:59this was discussed long back since from years together now all of a sudden the mr the
32:04great vishwa guru does not have anything so he brought this so most of the people they don't
32:08want to sing anyway singing whether they know or not but what is the interest to get is only this
32:13only
32:13the bgp says the complete version must be played citing a central government directive
32:19the bgp has acoustic congress government of appeasement politics it says
32:48vande mataram's place in india's freedom struggle demands that the song be accorded its full honor
32:54written by bunkim chandra chattapathai vande mataram has now returned to the political spotlight
33:01a song that once united voices against colonial rule now becoming the latest flashpoint between rival
33:08political camps with nagarjun dhwar khanath bearer report india today
33:14the darmastala rape murder case is back in the spotlight it's a case that was essentially buried
33:21months ago but now the supreme court has stepped in ordering a fresh investigation into one specific case
33:28the 2012 rape and murder of a college student it's called the sojourner rape case it's one that's been
33:35one of the biggest talking points in karnataka one of the biggest crime stories that everyone
33:40believes there are no answers to the epics court has directed that a special investigation team be
33:46constituted to conduct the fresh investigation to submit his report within three months reports
33:51suggest that the supreme court's decision follows a plea by saujanya's mother who sought a fresh
33:57investigation alleging that crucial evidence had been overlooked and that there were lapses in the
34:01earlier investigation just to give you a brief reminder of the case this was a 2012 rape and
34:08murder case that triggered widespread outrage in karnataka saujanya's family has been pursuing the
34:12matter for the last 14 years her mother has welcomed the supreme court's decision
34:19nagarjun dhwar khanath is joining us with more details so on this nagarjun just run us through the
34:24details of this particular case uh you know it was largely linked to all that happened also in
34:30dharmastala a couple of months ago well that's true in fact karnataka also had formed a special
34:35site remember the skull case when uh uh no unknown person found a skull uh in dharmastala and that was
34:41also a big viral incident in karnataka now saujanya's mother had moved the supreme court asking for a fresh
34:48investigation 14 years later after the murder and rape that took place now the supreme court has said
34:54an sat will be formed and three months uh the report will be submitted to the court directly
34:58the but the big question would be what are the evidences the new sat can gather because the case
35:03has uh it's already been 14 years since the murder occurred and that's the big question what evidences
35:08can be found out and uh is there any the sat that was formed earlier have they found any evidences
35:14and
35:14that can give way or lead into more crackdown in this case that's the big question but uh
35:20saujanya's family feels that this is a big step in victory to justice for saujanya all right thanks
35:25naga for joining us with those details
35:30okay with that i'm slipping into a short break here on super six coming up on the other side we'll
35:34get

35:41the cards in schools we'll get your details on this in just a bit
35:46welcome back italian prime minister georgia maloney has announced plans to ban the burka and nikab in
35:51schools to cap the number of foreign pupils per class it also requires some parents to take italian
35:57language lessons these measures framed as integration rules come as immigration looms as a central issue
36:04ahead of elections in italy next year
36:11he job and burka controversies in europe are nothing new several european countries restrict
36:18full-face whales like burkas and naqabs under laws that require people to show their faces in public
36:25spaces now georgia maloney's italy is all set to introduce measures to ban burkas and naqabs in schools
36:33prime minister maloney has vowed that the move to ban islamic face and body covering
36:39will be a central issue in next year's general election the italian prime minister argued that
36:45no one in italy should be able to decide that a young woman must hide her face in the name
36:50of tradition
36:53the measure will soon be presented to a cabinet meeting to legally establish a maximum number of
36:58foreign students per class it also requires parents of foreign students facing serious difficulties
37:04integrating into the school system to learn italian and bans burkas and niqabs in school
37:11in italy no one in the name of a real or supposed tradition can decide that a young woman must
37:17hide
37:17herself meloney has also vowed to increase cap on the number of foreign students in classrooms
37:25this proposal comes as a 30 percent limit on foreign students per class and school already exists
37:32meloni outlined the proposed changes at a gathering of the youth wing of her nationalist
37:37conservative brothers of italy party italy prime minister also plans to make italian language lessons
37:44compulsory for parents of foreign students having serious difficulties integrating into the school
37:50system if there is only one child in a class who does not understand italian that child would likely
37:58to be able to learn the language and integrate quickly with the help of classmates and teachers
38:04however if the number of children who don't understand a language becomes large
38:08or even the majority that is no longer integration it is neglect
38:14however the proposed measure in at least still needs to go through the legislative process
38:19before it becomes a law bureau report india today
38:26let's move on to what's happening in the asian games where india's medal tally continues to go up
38:31there is controversy also that's playing out at the asian games uh as far as the hosting by japan is
38:39concerned one was accommodation which immediately was addressed by india uh ensuring that all athletes
38:46were accommodated but overall the questions that loom over the game's preparedness the unusual
38:53accommodation arrangements the delay the opening ceremony all of it has led to questions about
38:58what's really happening in japan a country that's usually known for its punctuality for perfection
39:14india have swiftly addressed the accommodation crisis faced by its athletes at the ongoing asian games
39:21with the authorities booking additional hotel rooms to ensure everyone is well taken care of
39:27the
39:29There is no problem at all.
39:31There was a problem at the beginning,
39:32so we booked an extra hotel,
39:37and our team is going to the airport itself.
39:40Alaknanda and Madam Anjali were there at night.
39:44They did everything there.
39:45The children have been delayed.
39:48The accreditation card has been made.
39:50It's a long process on the cruise.
39:53It's been a long time,
39:55and the rest is on the transport.
39:56But we have arranged our cars and hotels.
40:02Earlier, though, it seemed that the Asian Games
40:05was headed for a disaster.
40:09Indian athletes were left stranded for more than 14 hours
40:13without food and with very minimal facilities at their disposal.
40:19Those who got the accommodation had to share the facility among themselves
40:23as the organizing committee committed a gross miscalculation of the number of athletes arriving at the place.
40:33Not just India, athletes from other countries are also facing the same problem.
40:38The endless wait for a confirmed accommodation and very little food.
40:45The accommodation situation in the Asian Games is also a logistical challenge.
40:50A massive cruise ship named the Costas Arena has been leased for accommodating the participating athletes.
40:59Now, due to the increasing costs of construction and other price factors,
41:04there is no traditional athletes' village,
41:07and players have been slotted in ship container homes that is causing further controversy.
41:14Many players have complained of roof leakages which have made it inhospitable.
41:20While many other athletes are not finding the cramped rooms to their liking,
41:25the current situation when it comes to the accommodation has forced one of the MMA fighters in Varun Sanyal
41:32to speak about the situation in a now-deleted post.
41:37He said that had it happened in India, the scrutiny would have been far more intense.
41:43Had this happened in India, oh my God, the media would be going crazy,
41:49and not just in India, like globally, okay, and he would have been the butt of the joke.
41:53So it's really important that when this happens to our athletes, that this is mentioned.
41:59The accommodation and logistical situation in Aichi Nagoya is far from ideal,
42:05but it seems like the issues have been sorted out for the time being.
42:10Sports Bureau, India Today.
