Vance says US doing ‘everything we can’ to bring down gas prices

Vice President JD Vance says the Trump administration is working to ease rising gas prices as disruptions involving Iran and commercial shipping continue to affect global energy markets.

Speaking to reporters before boarding Air Force Two for North Carolina, Vance pointed to the impact of Iran’s actions around the Strait of Hormuz and said the administration is focused on limiting the pressure on American consumers.

“We’re very cognizant of the fact that because the Iranians are terrorizing international shipping, energy prices are elevated,” Vance said.

“We’re doing everything that we can to, one, try to tamp down on these prices, but give the American people some relief in the interim,” he added.

Vance also referenced President Donald Trump’s calls for states to consider reducing gasoline taxes as one possible measure for easing costs.

“We’re of course going to try to protect the free flow of commerce as much as we can,” Vance said, while noting that the U.S. Navy would continue efforts to protect commercial shipping.

He also said he expects further discussions about Iran during this week’s United Nations General Assembly in New York.
