A major injury scare hit the Washington Commanders on Sunday when quarterback Jayden Daniels was forced out of the game against the Dallas Cowboys after hurting his left elbow.
The injury occurred on the final play of the first half. Daniels appeared to trip while pulling away from the center and used his left arm to brace himself. His elbow then bent awkwardly, leaving him in obvious discomfort before he was taken to the locker room on a cart.
The injury is especially concerning because Daniels suffered a similar left elbow dislocation against the Seattle Seahawks last season. That injury caused him to miss several games after he aggravated the elbow following his return.
Medical analyst Dr. David Chao reviewed video of Sunday’s incident and said it appeared to show another left elbow dislocation. He also noted that a previously injured joint can become more vulnerable to another dislocation after the original ligament injury heals.
Daniels was replaced by Marcus Mariota for the remainder of the game. The Commanders now await further medical evaluation to determine the severity of the injury and how long their starting quarterback could be sidelined.
