00:10Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we're taking a look at 10 boss battles from PS2 games we
00:15thought would be pretty easy, but turned out to be super duper challenging.
00:31Before we begin, we publish new content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring the bell to

00:40General Grievous, Star Wars Episode III, Revenge of the Sith.
00:52When players confronted General Grievous in the movie tie-in game Star Wars Episode III,
00:57Revenge of the Sith, few expected the coughing, retreating droid from the film to deliver such a
01:03grueling reality check. Once he ignites all four lightsabers, the battle shifts into a relentless
01:08meat grinder defined by overwhelming combos and devastating unblockable heavy attacks.
01:14However, before all this, you still have three grueling phases to try and survive.
01:18His massive health pool and ironclad defense completely punishes mindless button mashing,
01:23forcing players to master precise parries and strict tactical discipline in order to survive,
01:28hopefully. This sudden steep spike in difficulty caught casual gamers completely off guard here,
01:34transforming a cinematic duel into one of the PS2's most surprisingly brutal encounters.
01:57The final showdown against the corrupt CEO Franklin D. Mann in this quirky and absurd platformer catches
02:04players completely off guard, with its relentless multi-stage brutality. While the game relies heavily
02:10on comedic slapstick humor, Mann suddenly ups the ante by raining down missiles, deploying waves of
02:16security bots, and forcing players across hazardous electrified floors. This is made worse since Spanx and
02:22Redman's chain gets broken, and Redman basically just hightails it out of there. Spanx fights alone,
02:28at first. Navigating this extreme environment while trying to land hits on his heavily armored mech suit
02:34requires absolute precision and flawless movement. Fortunately, Redman comes back at the end of the
02:39battle to help Spanx put down Franklin for good. This massive unforgiving spike in difficulty shifts
02:44the game from a light-hearted cartoon romp into an exhausting high-stakes endurance test.
03:06The three-phase showdown against Unalesca in Final Fantasy X serves as a legendary gatekeeper that
03:13utterly shatters unprepared players with its devastating status effects. It's all incredibly demanding and
03:19overwhelming, with her visage turning more intimidating and creepy with each new phase.
03:24The real shock of the battle, however, lies in her signature zombie status, which flips the game's
03:29core mechanics by turning your own healing spells and items into lethal weapons. If players quickly
03:34cure the affliction, she immediately counters in her final form with Megadeath, instantly wiping out any
03:39party member who isn't currently zombified. Balancing this agonizing tactical paradox while surviving
03:45her relentless mind-control attacks makes this spiritual gauntlet one of the most grueling strategic
03:50hurdles on the beloved console.
04:12The first encounters with Baron Praxis in this awesome but demanding follow-up to the Precursor Legacy
04:19serves as a notoriously brutal reality check that epitomizes the game's infamously steep difficulty
04:24curve. Facing his heavily armed hover mech, players must dodge a relentless barrage of homing missiles,
04:30devastating mines, and sweeping laser grids within tight, unforgiving arenas. Because Jack lacks a
04:36traditional health regeneration system, a single misstep here during his chaotic multi-phase onslaught can
04:41instantly result in a game-over scream. This sudden escalation from standard action platforming challenges to a
04:47chaotic bullet-hell-like survival match permanently cemented the Baron as a wild difficulty spike we
04:53honestly didn't see coming.

05:08Verdugo Resident Evil 4
05:18The terrifying encounter with Verdugo transforms a tense horror action shooter into a frantic,
05:24claustrophobic game of survival. This biological weapon is a literal bullet sponge shrugging off standard
05:30firearms with an armored hide that can only be weakened by knocking over scarce liquid nitrogen tanks scattered
05:36around the sewer. Trapped in narrow dead-end corridors, players are forced to execute flawless
05:41quick-time events to dodge ceiling ambushes, while trying desperately to wait for an elevator to arrive.
05:47Whether you choose to stand and burn through all your precious ammunition, or just flee in absolute panic,
05:52this relentless stalker delivers a uniquely stressful pacing shock to this whole campaign.
06:10The Demon Queen Maximo goes to glory.
06:12And now, the only thing left is to devour you!
06:24While yes, we know Maximo is of course a downright brutal game all around, nothing still could have prepared us
06:30for just how surprisingly tough, and just surprising in general, this game's final boss, the Demon Queen, would actually be.
06:36This nefarious boss completely subverts expectations by ditching traditional combat for a terrifying
06:42pitch black test of sensory awareness. Believing they have already beaten the game after conquering King
06:47Achille, players are immediately thrust into a pitch black throne room where this hidden monstrosity stalks
06:53them from the shadows. Survival hinges on tracking her infrequent, spine-chilling growls and capitalizing on brief
07:00lightning flashes from outside to hopefully illuminate her position for you before she launches a fatal ambush.
07:05Stripping away the player's sight in an already notoriously difficult Capcom classic,
07:10turns what should be a triumphant victory lap into a deeply stressful claustrophobic nightmare.
07:25Shadow Yukiko Persona 4
07:27Someone please take me away, I can't leave here on my own.
07:35The early game clash against Shadow Yukiko in the original PS2 version of Persona 4 acts as a notorious
07:41roadblock for players who expected a gentle introduction to the turn-based RPG. Lacking the
07:47fundamental elemental weaknesses that were later added in the golden remaster, this fiery cage-bound
07:52boss is an absolute damage sponge capable of wiping out an underleveled squad in a flash. She ruthlessly
07:58exploits party member Chie's weaknesses to fire with her telegraphed Burn to Ashes spell,
08:03triggering devastating bonus turns if the player fails to predict and guard against her passionate
08:08stare. Compounding the misery, midway through the grueling encounter, she summons the charming Prince
08:13minion, a secondary target that constantly heals her and introduces a stressful status ailment loop that
08:19pushes early-game resource management to its absolute limits.
08:29Doctor Nefarious Ratchet and Clank Up Your Arsenal
08:40Confronting the comical, malfunctioning cyborg Doctor Nefarious at the climax of Up Your Arsenal
08:45results in a dramatic tonal shift from slapstick humor to an intense multi-stage bullet hell.
08:51Hovering safely out of reach for much of the fight, he fills the sky with a staggering web of tracking
08:56missiles, wide-reaching energy rings, and lethal lasers that punish anything less than perfect strafe
09:01jumping. When his personal shields drop, players are then forced to aggressively burn through their
09:06heaviest ammunition, while dodging waves of high-tech robotic reinforcements deployed onto the crumbling
09:11platforms. For a mostly family-friendly platformer, this frantic marathon completely pushes the game's
09:17shooter mechanics to their absolute limit, delivering a surprisingly frantic and taxing finale.
09:32DEMMICS Kingdom Hearts 2
09:34Oh, I told them they were sending the wrong guy.
09:39Who is this kook?
09:41The seemingly carefree Organization XIII member DEMMICS shatters the whimsical tone of Kingdom Hearts 2,
09:46with a frantic music-themed showdown in Hollow Bastion that haunts players to this very day.
09:52Rather than relying on traditional swordplay, this sitar-wielding boss repeatedly stalls the action
09:57to force tight, unforgiving minigames where Sora must destroy dozens of water clones within strict
10:03seconds-long time limits. Failing to meet these arbitrary quotas results in an instant unceremonious
10:09game over screen, completely invalidating an otherwise successful attempt.
10:13This immediate reliance on frantic crowd control with all things water, paired with DEMMICS's
10:18surprisingly aggressive water column attacks, transforms a laid-back comedic relief character,
10:23or so we thought, into one of the most frustratingly steep roadblocks on the PS2.
10:50It's a Scooby-Doo game, surely the game's final boss can't actually be that tough, right? Nope.
10:56The Mastermind upends everything with a cruel final difficulty spike that stopped many Scooby fans
11:02from seeing the conclusion to this excellent 3D adventure platformer that infused some light
11:07Metroidvania elements. Now, on paper, battling the Mastermind sounds easy. Bash some big red buttons
11:13behind some electricity gates. Do this a few times, then bash the Mastermind into the electricity,
11:18and Bob's your uncle. Easy peasy, right? Well, however, dealing with the relentless waves of goons,
11:24the minuscule timing to actually helmet-bash the red buttons once the electricity stops momentarily,
11:30and all of the other hijinks the Mastermind gets up to, makes this final showdown a frustrating battle
11:35of attrition and patience, with trial and error as the catalyst. Come on, Night of 100 Frights,
11:40did you have to go this hard at the end? So, what did you think of our picks for this
11:53list?
11:54What PS2 bosses did you find to be much harder than you anticipated? Let us know in the comments.
