03:13I thought this was going to happen back on August 30th.

03:19I don't know about you, and I've listened to some of what you guys have said about it

03:24I think this is brilliant news.
03:26And it is Chapter 1000 in the book of Steph Curry's self-awareness.
03:31To me, what he is saying is, I don't want to sign now because I have no idea what the
03:36number is that puts us in the best position.
03:39So, I will wait until we have more information on that.
03:42And if that means waiting until fully after the year, so be it.
03:46That's how I took it.
03:48That's pretty much my read on it also.

03:56Well, I mean, yes, it maintains his leverage.
04:02But I'm not saying he needs leverage.
04:04Like, he's not vindictive, but it is a way for him to protect himself also if this thing
04:14gets real sideways.
04:16Also rolling the dice, is he not?
04:17No doubt.
04:18What if that knee just doesn't work this year?
04:21Now what are you signing him to?
04:23Is he even playing?
04:24I know.
04:25I mean, that's on the table, isn't it?
04:27It is, but I think the way I read it, where he doesn't want there to be drama.
04:31He wants to end his career here.
04:33If things go south physically and he didn't sign this massive extension, $136.7 million,
04:40well, he misses out on a big payday, but at the same time, financially, he's going to be
04:44okay.
04:45And I was saying this before, Stiney, I believe his deal with his new shoe company is $40 million
04:50a year for 10 years.
04:52So even if he doesn't get $62.6 or whatever it's going to be going forward, he still gets
04:58$40 million for the next 10.
05:00I think his number one priority is to wait and possibly have one last chance to be on
05:07a winning team.
05:07And if you take the max now, that basically eliminates that ability, in my opinion.
05:12To me, it just seems to be making sense from every perspective.
05:18And that is, Steph doesn't have to sign now, and he gets the ability to see what they can
05:28do next offseason and then make a decision accordingly.
05:32And the Warriors, one thing they don't have to do is lock themselves into Steph for two
05:39years with an uncertainty about his knee.
05:44And so it's starting to look to me like this probably is the best way for everybody to go
05:49about it.
05:50But rest assured, he's going to continue to get asked about it over the course of the
05:57season.
05:57And he's going to shut it, you know, he'll be great at it, you know, but the fact is
06:03like he would be poised to hit free agency, which he's never done for sure.
06:09But I could also, they could also sign him to an extension on June 30th.
06:14They're allowed to, or they could, or they could, or he could, you know, on June, on July
06:191st, then they sign a free agent and come back to Steph and say, here's what's left
06:24over.
06:25And are you good with this?
06:27I mean, he's, he's begging people to not make this dramatic.
06:32Right.
06:33And the reason he's doing that is because he knows nobody's going to listen and they're
06:37going to make this dramatic anyway.
06:39So he's going to hit free agency.
06:42This is his way of holding the Warriors feet to the fire to make a move.
06:46I just think this is all, this is how we do the internet in 2026.
06:52And I think it's all a bunch of complete junk.
06:56If you think that the Warriors and Steph are playing a game of high stakes chicken with one
07:02another, you're one of those kids that sticks your fingers in both ears and goes, no, no,

07:08Like, just listen to what they're saying.

07:15There, there's no way to know what the right number is right now.

07:23And one of them was a slight decrease in pay and do it now.

07:29You take a pay cut or you wait to your point.
07:31If you take the pay cut now, is it 50 a year?

07:37And what does that really do as far as giving you the room?
07:39Because if Jimmy comes back and Jimmy looks good, if Draymond has another year where he
07:44can be a contributor, if Chris Stapp's Porzingis looks healthy-ish and he can play, well, you
07:51may want to keep the band together.
07:52And if Steph's making 50, that may be preventative.
07:56Or you wait and he ends up taking 35, 35 and 40.

08:01So many questions, right?
08:02Like, and I bet we could all imagine.
08:04The Warriors could get to January and be three games over 500.
08:07They could be 15 games under.
08:09And I could sit here today and tell a story that's believable as to how they got there.
08:13And that changes everything.
08:16Like, are Draymond and Jimmy even on the team in February?
08:20Well, and I think that's the part that we got to focus on is I do think this year will
08:27in large part dictate the direction.
08:30If they don't, you know, if they're 15 and 30 and, you know, Butler's delayed, then that
08:41probably changes their outlook.
08:42If they're 30 and 20 and Butler's coming back, well, then that's a different deal entirely.
08:48And then maybe you try to, you try to make a run at it.
08:51I do think it's definitely setting up.
08:56Steph Curry's not.
08:57I don't think he's going to take the max.
08:59Like, whenever he gets it, I feel like, and maybe it's because of LeBron, but he's going
09:05to, I don't think he's going to take the max.
09:08This is Steph being Steph yet again.
09:12That's my read on it.

09:13And yes, there are other stars, many in sports throughout the years who would say, what do
09:20you mean?
09:20Like, don't take, of course I deserve the max.
09:23I feel that building.
09:25I feel that building every night.
09:27I deserve the max.
09:28And he would not be wrong for doing that, but he's not doing that because he's Steph Curry.
09:32And he wants to win.
09:34And by doing that, it pretty much assures, in my opinion, that you can't win because you'd
09:39only have, according to Bobby Marks or Anthony Slater, about 40 million projected under the
09:44cap.
09:44And you'd rather have maybe 80 million under the cap.
09:48And I do think part of the calculus for me anyway, is those questions you were talking
09:52about, Stiney, like, what does Jimmy look like?
09:55And Moses and Draymond.
09:56And for me, it's even Chris Stapp's poor Zingas.
09:58And you start to look at, can this team of veterans be healthy-ish?
10:03Can they be successful together late in the year?
10:06Next year's a gap year.
10:08I don't think you're thinking if everything breaks right, we can win the whole thing.
10:12But if everything breaks right, you could set yourself up for the next year for the true
10:17last chance.
10:17I agree.
10:18Like, there are scenarios in which the Warriors could overachieve and make the playoffs this
10:25upcoming season.
10:27And then what happens?
10:29Then you build off that by going after somebody in free agency, by maybe making a trade.
10:35But I agree, too, with you.
10:37If this thing goes south, then I guess all bets are off.
10:43And then you've got to figure out what you're doing with Steph, who hasn't signed a contract,
10:49but you guys didn't have a good year.
10:51And could his calculus change over the course of a season if they don't do well?
10:57Like, where he says, I think it's time for me to go.
11:00If he can still play.
11:02Like, there's a lot of unknowns.
11:03Yeah, there's him.

11:24fans are out here going, Steph's probably pissed.

11:28Because they don't, the Warriors haven't helped him.
11:30I think that Steph is looking at this and he's agreeing with the fan base in one category,
11:37but he's not wanting to handle it the way a lot of fans would handle it.
11:43He's agreeing that as we look at this right now, Warriors aren't winning a championship.
11:48So you could be mad about that, or the other way you could do it is go, okay, I understand
11:54how we got here.
11:56I don't think Mike Dunleavy is a nincompoop like a lot of people do.
12:00They've done what they've done.
12:02They haven't nailed everything, but they got Jimmy Butler.
12:05They've made good draft picks, except for when you go back five years, all that stuff.
12:09But the other way to handle that is to stay flexible and be open to the unknown.
12:15You don't know who this team could add a year from now.
12:19That is, in fact, the only way that Steph could compete at a high level the rest of his career.
12:25So why not stay completely open and flexible to whoever that might be?
12:30And if that person doesn't come, then go ahead and take the max and put on a crown and we'll
12:34do a little tour for you.
12:35Or take whatever you think will help you be better, because I do believe that the most important thing for
12:40him at this juncture is to have a competitive team to play, quote, meaningful basketball.
12:46Those are his words.
12:47And I was just looking at the all-time rankings of accumulated salaries.
12:52It's been an accumulation sensation, guys.
12:54Let's be fair about it.
12:55In the history of, first one of the year, the association.

13:18I'm trying to see what KD's making this year to see where his total will rise to, because he's number

13:26And then you've got number three would be the chef, and he's making 62 this year.
13:31He'll be at $532 million going into the final two years.
13:37So if he wanted to take the max, he would wind up making about $670 million on the court.
13:42And as I mentioned earlier, he's already making $400 million off the court with the shoe deal.
13:46So not that you ever want to give down dollars, but if you really want to play meaningful basketball, you
13:52don't take the max.

13:53Marcus Thompson said something that I thought was interesting.
13:58He went down to Arkansas for Moody's camp, and Steph was down there.
14:01And Steph basically was like, well, when Butler got hurt, it was over.
14:07It was like, you know, Jimmy got hurt.
14:10It was over.
14:12And I've been giving that a lot of thought.
14:15And I think who they were with Jimmy Butler, the fact that they could win a certain amount, that was
14:26enough, I think, for Steph.
14:28Now, I'm not saying he wouldn't have wanted to be on a better team, but they were competing.
14:33They did beat the Rockets.
14:35You know, they were 1-0 against the Timberwolves before he got hurt.
14:39Then last year, they were winning, and then Butler got hurt, and it kind of all went sideways.
14:47So when you talk about, well, is Steph really mad?
14:50I don't think he's mad.
14:51I think he knows that the Butler injury has taken away a ramp where they could possibly continue improving and
15:04then get better even from there.
15:06They're not going to be able to improve probably before next offseason.
15:11And he knows that.
15:12Yeah, think about what you're saying.
15:14Why would Steph Curry be mad at the Warriors like many fans are because they traded for Jimmy Butler,
15:19and the shine of that deal has come off of a little bit because he got hurt.
15:24You know who else got hurt actually twice?

15:29Steph is the one who got hurt in the playoff series where they were actually getting ready to compete at

15:42but I'm hearing this a lot today and in recent weeks that the Warriors have somehow failed Steph in his

15:52Boy, I'm not in his mind, but that would shock the hell out of me if that's what Steph Curry
15:57thinks.
15:57Especially, yeah, considering what his, quote, ego is like, at least what we know of it,
16:03he doesn't seem to be the type of guy you were describing of, like, I fill that building.

16:09I mean, there's this thing out there in the fan base sometimes I feel like where we're almost,
16:14and maybe this is the reality TV watchers in all of us,
16:18we would like to create fights between the Warriors and their players.
16:23Warriors, Draymond Green and the Warriors are, they're doing, this is the game of chicken that they're playing,
16:29and Steph is holding their feet to the fire, and he wants, I just, I'm not saying that nobody's ever
16:34had a loud conversation,
16:36but I view these dudes as acting like partners with the Warriors.
16:43They have, over and over and over again, these guys have acted in partnership with the organization,
16:49and Steph is trying to tell everybody, with words, that that's what's happening again this year.
16:56And I just think there are a lot of people that don't want to hear it because it's not that
16:59fun or sexy.
16:59Getting along is not fun at all.
17:01Like, we want the spice.
17:03And maybe it's just the programming that's on in my house with the real housewives of fill in the blank,
17:08but, you know, yesterday, my wife said, don't you want to watch New York?
17:11I said, I, the yelling, I just can't.
17:14Does she just, does she just call it by its city now?
17:16Do you want to watch New York?
17:18Right.
17:18And, you know, Salt Lake City was emotional in the debut, and on and on and on.
17:22Potomac is interesting.
17:24But I get to a point where I'll tolerate a little bit of it, like below deck, not so much

17:29I just can't, like, we yell at each other in here, and I go home,
17:32and now you've got these ladies that are yelling at each other.
17:35And so I do think that phenomenon is part of it.
17:37We want, we want to blame the Niners for the injuries.
17:41We want to blame the substation.
17:43We want to blame Kyle because they go too hard.
17:45Wait, they don't go hard enough.
17:47So we want to be able to get mad at people and at things.
17:52And so we want to imagine that Steph is somewhere just making 133s in a row
17:57and having his agent call all the other teams.

20:22stress in that way than just about any NFL player.

20:31because I do think they have some similarities.
20:34Like, Chris Mullen, his role was, like, he only worried about what he could control.
20:42So, yeah, Mullen wanted him to go make good moves, and I'm sure Steph wants him to go get
20:48Jokic if they can, but they're not in control of that, and maybe Steph doesn't get mad at
