00:00Well, let's talk now to Hussein Haridi, the former Egyptian minister who directed the country's department for Israel.
00:08Minister, welcome. Good to see you.
00:10When you also look at the Xi-Trump summit taking place in Washington,
00:16is there a danger that as we watch the UN General Assembly that it turns into something of a sideshow,
00:23perhaps,
00:24where the suggestion is perhaps the UN is becoming increasingly powerless
00:28and power simply resides elsewhere?
00:33Well, in fact, if we take, of course, this year, this General Assembly,
00:39this session of the General Assembly, sees the end of term of Mr. Antonio Guterres,
00:48the Secretary General of the United Nations.
00:50And in his speech before the General Assembly last Tuesday,
00:56definitely the conclusion is that the United Nations still has a long way to go
01:04in order to uphold the charter of the United Nations.
01:10He mentioned the war in Ukraine.
01:12He mentioned the situation in Gaza, in the West Bank, in southern Lebanon,
01:17and, of course, the situation in the Gulf and the Hormuz Strait and in Babel Manda.
01:27So the international situation is really fraught with danger.
01:34And hopefully the summit between President Trump and President Xi gives us hope
01:43that the two superpowers could really show the way for peace and security in the world in the years to
01:52come.
01:52And as I understand, President, the Chinese side is talking about constructive strategic stability.
02:03And President Xi, in a statement released before his arrival in Washington yesterday,
02:11he said that he is looking forward for a partnership with the United States,
02:17and the United States and China should be partners and not rivals.
02:21So let's hope that the summit would be successful and that it would raise hopes around the world
02:28that really, at long last, after four years, the Ukraine war, the war in Gaza,
02:34after four years of war and turmoil in the Gulf also,
02:38that the world, the international community, will really see life at the end of the time.
02:50Mr. Haridi, I wish we had much more time to talk about this important subject,
02:54but as ever, we've been beaten by the clock on a busy day.
