00:03Bill, how are people getting ready for this storm?
00:08Hi, Anna and Jeff.
00:10Yeah, well, surfers are out on the water making the most of these waves,
00:13but lifeguard crews here and other workers have been busy clearing the beaches,
00:18moving trash cans, lifeguard stands,
00:20really securing anything that could be moved or blow away in the wind.
00:23We're expecting some of the wind gusts here to top 40,
00:26even 50 miles an hour at times as this storm develops and moves closer to the Jersey Shore.
00:32And high tide tonight is just two hours away.
00:35Now, when you take a look at the video,
00:37the big concern in this area with a developing storm like this
00:41is when it pushes water up and into the back bays that can easily flood some neighborhood streets.
00:45Lifeguards have been busy putting up double red flags and moving boats up and away from the water.
00:50Rich Demers with Cape May Beach Patrol says the only ones who should be in waves,
00:55who should be near the waves like this, are experienced surfers.
00:59Please do not go in the water unless you really know what's going on.
01:02Like this morning, we had somebody go out for surfing for the very first time ever.
01:07Not a good day to learn on a day like today.
01:12Yeah, we're told that surfer was helped to shore and checked out by medics, but is doing okay.
01:17There are beach re-nourishment projects happening in this part of South Jersey,
01:22totaling $99 million.
01:24Some of those projects have just been completed, but others are on pause for this storm.
01:30And guys, with the duration and strength of this type of nor'easter,
01:33a lot of that work could be washed away in a matter of days.
01:38Unfortunate timing there with those projects.
01:40I guess.
01:40I don't know if it's good timing or bad timing.
01:42Bad timing because it could go to waste, but it could be protection for this storm.
01:46That's a true glass half full kind of take.
01:47It's an expensive, it's an uphill battle just trying to keep these things in place.
