00:04We are at the premiere of their brand new documentary, Unshatter.
00:08So, you guys, how did it start?
00:10Did Joe come to you and say,
00:13Hey guys, I kind of want to put some cameras up and start filming all this stuff.
00:21We're making a movie.
00:22We're making a movie, kid.
00:23And he said, I have a singer. It'd be really cool.
00:25I think it's going to work out awesome and we're going to start filming it.
00:27We're going to put it all together and it's going to make it look like it's all natural.
00:31And it's just like it happening and then we're going to have a really cool film.
00:34Oh my God.
00:34And then you said sold.
00:36That was literally it.
00:38That was the whole thing.
00:39No, but were you really down from the get-go to do this?
00:43We were down as long as it wasn't Joe.
00:45Yeah.
00:46And then we kind of got like...
00:47As long as it wasn't Joe?
00:48Right.
00:49Yeah.
00:49Okay.
00:49And then we just kind of got like tricked into this whole thing.
00:53Nice.
00:54I didn't know that Joe had directed it until five, four, five minutes ago.
01:00Oh my God.
01:01Wow.
01:01Well, surprise.
01:02Yeah.

01:03It was...
01:03I got an email about it earlier.
01:05You did?
01:05Show up.
01:06Yeah.
01:06Earlier today that there was a movie.
01:07Oh my goodness.
01:08And so at what point did you guys start filming once Emily was sort of like sealed and locked
01:14in?
01:14Well, we always film.
01:15Like, so we have like, if you've seen our on YouTube, for example, the Linkin Park channel,
01:21there are LPTV episodes just to kind of like, you know, chronicle all the things that the
01:26band is up to.
01:27And so we do kind of have cameras rolling.
01:30We have a camera rolling.
01:31I say cameras rolling as if it's some like high big production thing.
01:34It's actually like our friend Mark who just shoots us all the time.
01:38Nice.
01:38And we're used to him and he's like a sweet guy.
01:40So he's around, especially when we're like in the studio or when we're making something
01:46new or when we're rehearsing or working on something on tour or whatever.
01:50And so we were just kind of like had things rolling as we went.
01:55That is to say we had like thousands and thousands and thousands of hours of footage.
01:59And it really was like, to give Joe his proper credit, like to be able to take all of that
02:04madness and decide which things work best on screen and tell that story, that was really
02:12the, I think that was really the trick.
02:14That was the hardest thing to do.
02:15And that's the thing that Joe and his team did.
02:18And is it true that, you know, it's called Unshatter because the vocal that you did for
02:23the song was the thing that kind of made you feel like, hey, this can actually be.
02:29That was definitely a moment.
02:30I mean, the bridge, the bridge from Unshatter was like a big moment in us like going, oh
02:35my God, Emily is like special, the good kind of special.
02:41What would you say?
02:43She's, but she's, but she's very like, no, she is like, she was, it was obvious to us
02:50that she was like, we, it like got our attention.
02:55But I think the name of the, the really, the name of the documentary, at least from my point
02:59of view, is all about something coming back together after it's broken.
03:04And the band, you know, like I said, we had some footage of like us just like getting together
03:11and talking and working out, like, what are we going to do?
03:14The band is in shambles that we don't even know, is it going to be Linkin Park anymore?
03:19Are we going to make music this way anymore?
03:20What's that going to look like?
03:23And, and that's really, that's really what it's about.
03:27Yeah.
03:27And would you guys say that this was a healing experience?
03:33And also maybe what was the most difficult part about having to see yourself in, in a
03:38documentary?
03:39Well, thankfully we haven't had to see ourselves yet on a movie screen.
03:43Oh my God, you haven't?
03:44Yeah.
03:44So I've got teenage daughters.
03:46I'm a little bit worried about the type of teasing I'm going to get if I have any blemishes
03:51and they're magnified in a massive scale.
03:55But, uh, yeah, having said that, like the process of this whole, I'd say last four or
04:02five years for us has been challenging, exciting, emotionally charged, rewarding, all of the
04:12different things that you could, all the Ings, all the Ings you could put in there.
04:17It's been, it's been a blend of all that.
04:19Wardrobe choices.
04:20Wait, what?
04:21Wardrobe choices.
04:23Okay.
04:24Uh-huh.
04:24Not knowing it was going to be a documentary.
04:28I watch it back and I'm like, I, why, why did I, God, oh no.
04:32And then you just see it from, and you're just like, I'm kind of happy that I didn't
04:37know it was going to be a documentary because you would be, you know, you know, I was in
04:45sweats.
04:45Yeah.
04:46Like when we met.
04:47We met.
04:48Yes.
04:48Yes.
04:48You can't get, you kind of can't get more real on a documentary than when you don't even
04:52know that there's going to be a documentary.
04:55I think it just makes it more endearing.
04:57I just think it makes it more authentic.
04:59I don't know if it made the film, but there's a point where I'm practicing a golf swing,
05:03like air swing.
05:04And some of the, I think it might be in there, which is super embarrassing to me.
05:07Oh, I hope it made the cut.
05:08Like no golf club, but that's just what I'm doing in the background while we're working
05:11studio.
05:13Oh my God.
05:14All that just to say, yeah, it's been a process.
05:16Joe did an incredible job capturing that, bringing that to life.
05:20And, uh, I said it earlier the other day, but for me personally, and maybe for everybody,
05:25there's nobody else that I would have felt comfortable with doing that and entrusting.
05:29Such a difficult and kind of like important part of my life to be able to, for other people
05:35to see, there's no one I would trust to do that in the world, except for Joe.
05:38And so there's no way this gets made without him being steering that ship.
05:42100%.
05:43Yeah.
05:43My final question is, what do you guys hope that people walk away?
05:47Like when they walk out of the theaters, what do you hope that they take the takeaway
05:51is?
05:56I could say something.
05:58Can I just mic drop it right now?
06:01Yeah.
06:01Oh, she can't hear me.
06:02I'm just going to mic drop it right now.
06:04Okay.
06:09I was just going to drop the mic and not say anything, but then I realized it's probably
06:13going to break.
06:14And then I was like, I'm not going to do that to you.
06:16Well, either way, just on behalf of all Linkin Park fans and like, before I even found out
06:21I was coming to do this, I said to my friend the night before, I said, you know, I always
06:26love Linkin Park, but as I've gotten older, the songs mean so much more to me because life
06:31gets so real.
06:32So I'm just so happy that you guys are like carrying this forward for the younger generation.
06:37And I really, I can't wait to watch it tonight.
