I share analysis of a Birmingham Radiological Group patient / customer complaint posted to the Better Business Bureau dated 08/25/2026:

- They write: "I've never done business with these people directly. I assume that they processed something having to do with my immediate care provider (whom I will also be contacting with a complaint about this outfit)."

Yes, unfortunately as in my case, providers in the area continue to do business & partner with these bad MD's & will source them without seeking your consent first. These include big outfits with trusted reputations such as UAB / St. Vincent's & Ascension. They make quick & easy money & you get stuck with the hassles & mess that has landed them in the sights of federal regulators & lawsuit after lawsuit with patients who had enough of their antics. New risks are generated daily & everyone's credibility suffers as a result of poor decision making.

Continuing: "they sent me a bill for $52. I logged on to pay it and found a screen that said I owed nothing (see attached). Today, I've received a message that they sent my bill to a collection agency. This is outrageous. I tried to pay this!"

The BRG doctors don't run their billing portal correctly. They should forego trying to confuse their patients & drag out the process by simply explaining on the portal itself that the bill was delinquent & had been sent to collections. But this is too much work for them or too costly to pay IT guys to set it up, they cut A LOT of corners in their business practices.

Also BRG bucks industry conventions & norms, sending bills to collections too early. The medical industry standard is 90 to 180 days AFTER the initial patient statement is issued (in this case it was around 60 days). They have been caught sending bills to collections after only 30 days. This is because word is spreading about their service issues (SEE MY CASE). They want to get your money fast before you start questioning the work they may have done for you. In my case I had 3 of their MD's miss a million dollar several inch diameter head / neck injury I almost died from in 2019.

In their response to this patient, BRG gave many personal identifiers which qualify as PHI (personal health information). I consider these a possible violation of HIPAA privacy guidelines. They have done this in the past when answering BBB claims.

3 member doctors of BRG (Julian Patrick Druhan MD, Angus Baird MD and Donald Shane Kelly MD), radiologists, misdiagnosed medical image scans (X-Rays, CT Scans & MRI I had done between 2018-2019 at Saint Vincent's East Hospital (Ascension) & American Health Imaging). I went into the emergency room and to MDs believing I had broken my neck or skull. The doctors took these scans and typed up in official records I had no injury. I obtained the images and written records later and found in them I had broken the basilar area of my skull & several inches diameter of infection.

00:00Here's a new complaint posted to the Better Business Bureau website. This was by a customer
00:06patient of Birmingham Radiological Group. Initial complaint dated 8-25-2026. I have never done
00:15business with these people directly. I assume that they process something having to do with
00:21my immediate care provider, whom I will also be contacting with a complaint about this outfit.
00:29Anyway, they sent me a bill for $52. I logged on to pay it and found a screen that said
00:38I owed
00:39nothing. They included a screenshot image adding, today I received a message that they sent my bill
00:47to a collections agency. This is outrageous. I tried to pay this. Yeah, it's very unfortunate.
00:54The outsourcing of the analysis of my CT, x-ray, and MRI sent to Birmingham Radiological Group.
01:05I had no control over this. If I did, I would never allow these doctors to have anything to do
01:14with my health care. They're no good. A complaint to your provider, good for you. They need to be
01:21ashamed of themselves for doing business with these bad doctors. In my case, I was dealing with
01:28Ascension, St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, and American Health Imaging, later UAB.
01:36On September 8th, BRG responded to this. Having dealt with these doctors before, I will fill in
01:43some of the redacted areas. They write, in reference to our patient, in the balance due amount, $53.22.
01:53Patient did have radiology services on 4-6-26. At that time, we filed a claim to her insurance,
02:03BCBS, that's Blue Cross and Blue Shield, which they processed and paid her claim, leaving her copay
02:11of the balance. A patient was sent a statement for this amount. They were also sent text message
02:17reminders. No correspondence was ever received back from the patient. Her account was then referred
02:25to an outside collection agency. After the account was placed with the agency on 8-13, she was no longer
02:33able to obtain any active information or access following that transaction. I attempted to call the
02:40patient today to discuss additional options without success. I am happy to contact the credit bureau
02:49and ask for this account to be placed on hold until further notification can be obtained. This is a
02:58long-standing patient of ours and we understand frustration that billing issues can cause. I will
03:05send a copy of this to the credit bureau for their files. I believe this was written by Becky Burgess,
03:12Rebecca Burgess, who is the billing manager for Birmingham Radiological Group. This Better Business
03:18Bureau issue was never fully resolved and you can see this by clicking on the status item where it says
03:31answered. That reveals the fact that the business addressed the issues within the complaint but the
03:38consumer either A, did not accept the response or B, did not notify BBB as to their satisfaction. If I
03:47were the
03:47patient, based on my experience with these doctors, I would either not accept the response or just leave
03:55this issue open-ended. The Birmingham Radiological Group doctors are not trustworthy. They are not
04:02honorable. When they issue a statement to any challenge of a patient or customer, you cannot believe
04:11any word that they put their signature to. Next issue. With this response, as is the custom of the
04:20Birmingham Radiological Group staff, they violated HIPAA with their reply here. And that's HIPAA, the Health
04:30Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996. And now this involves security, privacy, confidentiality of
04:39patient personal health information, PHI. I've done videos on this subject. Also, BRG sends patients' bills to
04:50collections way too early, violating industry norms and conventions. And I think that's because words
04:59getting out about the behavior of their doctors are very naughty. So they want to get your money before you
05:08have enough time to start second-guessing their service. As you can see in my case, this is a legitimate
05:15concern when dealing with them. According to this, the account was placed with collections about two
05:24months after the first statement. The industry standard is unpaid bills go to collections 120 to 180 days
05:37four to six months after the first billing statement is issued. Regarding the portal, a patient says they
05:44logged in to make a payment, found a screen that said they owed nothing. This is because Birmingham
05:51Radiological Group does not structure their payment system correctly. They're fraudsters. Other companies
05:59don't have this problem. The correct way to do this is they log into the portal. It should be on
06:05BRG.
06:06and Rebecca Burgess. You leave a message telling them then and there the reason why they cannot make
06:14a payment. Alabama-based Birmingham Radiological Group. They claim to have 45 radiologists on the
06:21payroll and are composed of doctors that examine MRI, x-rays, and CT imagery. Many doctors and medical
06:29practices in the Birmingham area rely on their services. And you may be surprised if you went to
06:35see a doctor and had an MRI, CT or x-ray in the Birmingham area. A BRG, Birmingham Radiological
06:43Group doctor may have examined your images and you may not be aware of it until later. I was a
06:50customer
06:50and patient of Birmingham Radiological Group in 2018 and 2019. I had three of their doctors look at
06:58that MRI, CT and x-ray of a major injury that I had in my head. I almost died from
07:05this. These doctors
07:06wrote in their reports that I had no injury present. I knew otherwise. Went and got the pictures. I'll put
07:12the pictures up here yet again. And what is clearly visible at this time when I was being told these
07:19falsehoods was that around six inches in diameter of infection appears inside my head. I'd actually
07:27broken my skull in the basilar area in the region of the occipital condyle and condular canal. My issues
07:34are unresolved outstanding as it relates to Birmingham Radiological Group doctors Angus Baird, MD,
07:42Julian Patrick Druhan, MD, and Donald Shane Kelly, MD. I called the CEO, Doyle Stewart, and he told me
07:49again a recorded phone call that he was not going to help me get my own images looked at again
07:56or to
07:56correct the errors of their doctors.
