Haze, air quality worsens in Singapore as fires rage in neighbouring Indonesia

Air quality in Singapore worsens on Sept. 29, 2026 as the country wakes up to unhealthy levels of air pollution due to forest fires in neighboring Indonesia. As of 9 a.m. local time (0100 GMT), data from Swiss monitoring website IQAir showed a reading of 179, which falls under the unhealthy range. Indonesia is battling its most intense wildfires in 11 years, and its Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni has warned that the wildfires could continue until November this year. The islands of Borneo and Sumatra have been the worst hit, with the hazardous haze causing a spike in respiratory illnesses. Transboundary haze has also created unhealthy air conditions in neighboring Malaysia.
