00:01Wildfire smoke has made the air dangerous to breathe in parts of Southeast Asia.
00:05Indonesia is battling some of its most intense wildfires in years,
00:08sending smoke into neighboring Singapore, where air quality has also reached unhealthy levels.
00:12Some of the fires fueling that smoke are burning underground, making them harder to put out.
00:16And El Nino is helping set the stage.
00:18It typically reduces rainfall in Indonesia, drying out vegetation,
00:21so fires can spread more easily once they start.
00:24Now, if you're in a smoke-affected area, check local air quality updates
00:27and limit outdoor activity when the air is unhealthy.
