Powerful waves are smashing into already damaged homes along the Orange County shoreline as tidal flooding sweeps through the streets.

00:00Here on Balboa Island, California, located just south of Los Angeles, many are standing around
00:05watching, waiting with anticipation and anxiety of just how high the water is going to come,
00:11because this is just wave one of the much-anticipated king tide associated with the
00:16full moon and the Super El Nino that continues to batter the Southern California coast.
00:21Because right here beside me, this wall with an additional row of sandbags is all that stands
00:27between the Pacific Ocean and this community. There have been other resources brought into this
00:32area, such as big sump pumps for any water that does leak in that can be pumped right back out
00:37to
00:37the ocean and keep up with the king tide as it comes in over the next several days. Now, just
00:43across
00:43the bay here, those efforts were almost not enough as the ocean water came up so quickly that it did
00:50impede several businesses and homes that were located along the immediate oceanfront here on
00:56the other side of the sand wall that has been built in anticipation of this event. Now,
01:01thankfully, the crews were able to get in there, get sump pumps and get that water pumped out of
01:06these businesses. This is just day one of three with an even bigger king tide anticipated on Tuesday
01:12for this area. Now, a little further to the south, damaging waves continue to smash along the coastline
01:17where previous homes were already damaged. And unfortunately, that's going to continue as well
01:22over the next several days. We're going to be covering it all week here at AccuWeather. I'm Aaron Rigsby.
