The main part of a storm system sweeping across the Dakotas is rain, but some areas are getting a taste of winter.
Transcript
00:00Tis the season, first couple snows of the year, maybe there's new people there, people that are in the area
00:04that are unfamiliar, whatever it may be, let's go through what you need to be ready for.
00:09So, showing you radar estimated snowfall, and here's the thing, this part of the map is very much overdone, the
00:17radar sometimes struggles with what's rain, what's snow, it's not really sure, it's calling a lot of stuff snow that
00:22isn't actually snow when we talk about the ground truth,
00:25but there's another part of the map here that I think is a little underdone based on what we're actually
00:31seeing when we look at these cameras and things like that, looking at the ground truth.
00:36So, the point is, we're seeing snow across the Dakotas, across really western portions of the states and western Nebraska,
00:42we're seeing a little bit of accumulation, some of you, especially into western portions of the Dakotas there,
00:48like some of the cameras that we've been showing you where it's not just the grass but it's actually sticking
00:52to the road a little bit, you could get a little bit of accumulation.
00:55Maybe a little bit exciting for the snow lovers out there, but that's it, it's not going to last, it's
00:59mixing with the rain as temperatures warm up, earlier it was mixing with the rain,
01:04maybe we're getting a little bit more snow as things cool down, we'll go back to rain by the time
01:07we get to tomorrow, but the bigger headline, beyond the snow, that's the exciting part,
01:12so I had to start with that, get it out of the way, now talking about what more of you
01:16are seeing, well, it's the rain, and for most of you, it's just enough to be annoying,
01:22we're staying under an inch the last 24 hours here, there are some exceptions, we have the darker green, little
01:28hints of yellow, where we're getting closer to that two inch mark,
01:32so I'm not sure anyone really is over two inches, again, radar estimated rainfall here, so rather than what we're
01:38actually getting from the rain gauges,
01:39but it gives you an idea of what's going on. We head into tomorrow, two things to talk about, things
01:44start to shift further east, Bismarck down to Kansas City,
01:47we have the rain, but the other trend, we need future radar to really get that across, so as we
01:53head into the overnight, yeah, we still have some snow,
01:56you can see we're becoming less widespread, though, we've been pretty widespread with our rainfall throughout a lot of today,
02:01even more so as we go through the next couple of days, things just break up, now, I'm not saying
02:06you don't have to deal with the rain,
02:07it's not one of those situations where, you know, none of this reaches the ground, you're going to have some
02:11rain,
02:11and maybe even some downpours at times, but take a look at Chicago, as we start to see the rain
02:15working its way,
02:17it breaks up, Chicago, be ready for a couple showers, but we're not talking about the big downpours,
02:22now, the one area I'm a little concerned about, Wednesday evening, that's where we could have some downpours,
02:26we could have maybe a few thunderstorms, maybe a few stronger wind gusts, not talking about widespread severe weather,
02:31but when we look at the next couple of days, that's probably the more significant time frame of any kind
02:37of rain and thunderstorms.
