00:00We've a packed weather schedule for you for the next 24 hours or so.
00:04Some heavy rain, some strong and gusty winds, and some remarkable warmth.
00:09All thanks to an area of low pressure sitting down to the southwest.
00:12You can see it clearly here developing on the satellite image.
00:15The cloud really thickening up as it approaches the UK.
00:19It's squidging the isobars together.
00:20That's giving us the strengthening winds.
00:23Ahead of it, we've got this warm front draped across the UK,
00:26and that is bringing some places a very warm Tuesday afternoon.
00:31The front itself providing some rain and drizzle as it crosses North Wales,
00:35northern England, and up into parts of southern Scotland.
00:37Most of the rain and drizzle over the hills.
00:40Many places will be dry, and then the skies brighten.
00:42And where we see the afternoon sunshine, parts of the East Midlands,
00:45East Anglia, and the southeast, that's where we're really going to see the warmth.
00:48At the same time, the rain edging into northern Ireland,
00:52maybe Pembrokeshire, parts of Cornwall by the end of the afternoon,
00:55and the wind's picking up as well.
00:57Breezy afternoon, bright and breezy for most,
00:59but getting quite windy as that rain sets in in the far west.
01:03Those temperatures, as I said, really quite remarkable.
01:05The Midlands, East Anglia, the southeast,
01:07depends exactly when it brightens up,
01:09but we could easily get to 25, 26, 27 is possible.
01:1328, not out of the question.
01:15But it's not warm and sunny everywhere,
01:17with the breeze coming in from the North Sea feeling quite fresh here.
01:21In fact, if we compare the temperatures for this afternoon to the average,
01:25you can see quite a contrast.
01:26Actually, parts of the east coast of Scotland a little cooler than average,
01:29whereas those central and southeastern parts,
01:32five, six, seven degrees above the whole of the September average.
01:36And this is the end of the month, remember.
01:38Now, things turn wet through the night.
01:40Of course, northern Ireland, heavy bursts of rain,
01:42pushing into western Scotland, Wales, and southwest England.
01:44In particular, over the hills,
01:46some intense downpours likely in this zone,
01:49and those gusty, blustery winds as well.
01:51So, very wet and windy in parts of the west.
01:55Many eastern parts of England, eastern Scotland,
01:57will stay dry, bar for the odd little bit of drizzle.
02:00And here, the warm air is sticking around.
02:03So, it's going to be a very, very warm night as well.
02:06Temperatures in towns and cities holding up at 16, 17.
02:09Sun may not drop below 18 or 19 degrees Celsius.
02:13Again, truly remarkable for the end of September.
02:16So, a warm start, but a wet start to Wednesday morning.
02:20Still some heavy bursts of rain,
02:21pushing slowly across Scotland through the central belt.
02:23Very wet start here.
02:25Northwest England, still some heavy bursts of rain
02:27over parts of the Midlands and southwest England.
02:30Quite quickly, though, northern Ireland
02:32and the far southwest of England and Wales
02:35will start to turn a little bit brighter.
02:37But for that morning rush,
02:38there could be a lot of spray,
02:39a lot of surface water on the roads.
02:40Where we could really do with some rain,
02:42across the eastern parts of England,
02:44we're not going to see much.
02:45It's going to kind of be fizzling out as it moves away.
02:48It will be a damp morning for east England and the southeast,
02:50but, as I say, nothing in terms of heavy rain
02:53to get excited about.
02:55Then we'll see a few lively showers developing
02:57for Northern Ireland, Wales, southwest England,
02:59western parts of Scotland during the afternoon.
03:01But many parts of central and eastern Britain
03:03brightening up through the afternoon
03:05with some sunny spells.
03:06Still quite breezy, but not as windy
03:08as it will be through the latter part of today and tonight.
03:11And still quite mild.
03:12Again, not the temperatures we're seeing today,
03:15but these numbers still quite a bit above the average
03:17for the very end of September.
03:19Feeling quite pleasant in the afternoon sunshine,
03:22I suspect.
03:23As we go through Wednesday evening,
03:24a few more of these showers coming into the west.
03:26So again, could be some heavy rain around
03:28for the evening commute.
03:30Quite a few puddles on the roads once more.
03:33And all this showery weather will tend to blow its way through
03:37during the course of Wednesday night.
03:38The weather continuing to chop and change a little
03:40as we head towards the weekend.
