00:05We've had some pretty heavy downpours through the course of Wednesday morning over parts of southern Scotland and northern England
00:11from this weather system.
00:12There's another one looking like it's brewing up out in the Atlantic. That'll bring some rain later tomorrow.
00:17But in between, this area of high pressure is just trundling its way in. That's going to brighten skies for
00:23most places through the rest of today.
00:25The heavy downpours that we've seen now pulling out into the North Sea. Still some pretty heavy rain across parts
00:31of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire into the lunchtime period, but gradually easing away.
00:36A brisk and fresh breeze may continue to bring a few showers along those North Sea coasts, and some showers
00:43will affect northern and northeastern Scotland in particular.
00:45But there'll be hit and miss. There'll still be some brighter spells in between.
00:49And certainly away from that wet and windier zone, it's looking much brighter for this afternoon for northern England.
00:55It's much of Wales, southern England, northern Ireland too. Quite a bit of cloud at times in the south. Sunshine
01:00here could be fairly hazy, but many places seeing some lengthy spells of sunshine.
01:04And in any sunny spells, temperatures in the southeast, 23, 24, maybe 25 or 26 Celsius.
01:11Certainly fresher than that with those breezes along those North Sea coasts.
01:15And a few showers, which will continue into the evening time, but they do tend to fade pretty sharply from
01:21northeast Scotland as we head towards midnight.
01:24And then, for most places, it's a dry night, it's a clear night, and the winds are falling light.
01:28And at this time of year, well, the nights are certainly long enough for temperatures to tumble.
01:34And it will turn pretty fresh overnight. Quite a cool one.
01:37Certainly something we've not seen much of recently. Temperatures well down into single digits.
01:42A touch of frost is possible through the sheltered glens of Scotland, and not much above freezing in rural parts
01:49of northern England too.
01:50And as well as those tumbling temperatures, there will be some mist and fog patches forming over parts of eastern
01:55England, especially.
01:56It could be quite dense for a time through the morning, but should also steadily clear as the sun climbs
02:02higher in the sky from mid-morning onwards.
02:04Then that next weather system we saw starts to move in, bringing cloud and patchy rain to Northern Ireland by
02:09Thursday lunchtime.
02:11And we'll see things turning a bit damp on the west coast of Scotland during the course of Thursday too.
02:15Most other places, though, looking dry and bright. Again, a mixture of cloud and sunny spells.
02:21Notice how the winds now change completely, now coming up from the south, so bringing up some milder air again.
02:27So after that chilly start, temperatures getting quite widely, over 20 Celsius for England and Wales, probably peaking 23, 24
02:34across the southeast.
02:35The winds, though, will be picking up.
02:37So as well as turning wet, getting really quite gusty across that west coast of Scotland and through parts of
02:42Northern Ireland by the end of Thursday,
02:44as this zone of rain continues to sink its way slowly southwards.
02:48We might just see one or two showers breaking out ahead of that as the cloud thickens for Wales and
02:53northwest England also.
02:54But generally most of England and Wales staying dry through Thursday evening.
02:58This line of rain, as you can probably guess, is a weather front.
03:01It will continue to track southwards as we head into Friday, but ahead of it, some warm air returning.
03:08So temperatures could really jump up again across the southeast on Friday, maybe up to 26 or 27 degrees Celsius.
03:15So the weather continues to chop and change quite a bit through the rest of this week and even into
03:20next week.
