00:00Hello everyone, my name is Jetske. I'm from the Netherlands, currently living in Uganda with my
00:07boyfriend. And nice that you are watching this new vlog. I'm really excited for today,
00:15because this is something that can only happen in Uganda. No, probably it can happen everywhere,
00:21but I have sometimes the feeling that this thing only happens in Uganda. Because on Monday I was
00:27going to the gym, and I did a leg workout. And then a guy came to me, and he greeted
00:33me, and he talked
00:35to me, and at first I, okay, hello. But he told me that he is a tailor, and he showed
00:42his work, and that
00:43was when I got really excited about it. And then I came home, and I thought, we can collab together.
00:51So I sent him a message, and he was excited as well. So today is the day that I'm going
00:57to his
00:57store. I'm going to show you his work. He makes really nice suits. When I saw those suits, I was
01:04like, how can you even make it? But he makes it. And yeah, today I'm going to make, or let
01:12myself get
01:13measured. And he's going to make a suit for me as well, because I'm already wearing, well, part of
01:20the suit I have already now. But he's going to make a new one for me. So yeah, and I'm
01:26going to bring
01:26you with me. So let's go. Oh no, not yet. Let's go first. Let's have a breakfast. Part one of
01:34my
01:34breakfast, a whole mango. And breakfast part two, chapati. No, not chapati. Why do I always
01:42say chapati? It is cassava with avocado. Okay, the Uber is there. So let's go. Okay, I'm here now in
01:51the shop from the tailor, and I'm really excited. And your brand name is? This is Couture. It is really
01:59nice. And I should say, let's go for a tour in the shop, because he has really good clothes.
02:14Can you please introduce yourself? My name is called Shema Emmanuel. You can call me Emmanuel
02:20Kato as well. I'm a suit tailor, and I do deal in custom tailored outfits and suits. I do custom
02:28tailored outfits for ladies, men, women, children. I do custom tailored outfits for wedding occasions,
02:36office outfits, African wears if you need one, a couple outfits as well. Yeah, it's really nice.
02:44And I saw your work, and I got really excited. Because this is also part of your work, right?
02:51Yeah, this is part of my work. Yes. Yes. So my brand name is called ACS Couture.
02:55We have different kinds of coats, like you see. We do custom tailored outfits. When you come,
03:02we show you different materials, take your measurements, and yeah. And how did it all start?
03:09So I was inspired by my best friend. He used to have this kind of love for fashion. Every time
03:18I saw him,
03:18I felt so comfortable being around him, like the way he dressed, from the way he looked. So did you
03:26went to school for it? No, actually, I didn't go to school for it. I didn't study it, but the
03:34inspiration
03:34that I got from my best friend, just how he looked, just because of him being smart, how he looked
03:41in a
03:41suit, how he looked in different kinds of pants. So you told me that you started tailoring all by yourself,
03:49and did you experience challenges by then, or? No, in the beginning, in my process of learning,
03:57since I hadn't gone through the whole process of the theory part, maybe in the second challenge,
04:03I should talk about in the business, like what we usually face. It comes with materials, materials
04:10sometimes like you might find good material already done, like it has been purchased. Maybe another
04:18challenge that I should say, the competition as well. There's a lot of competition in business.
04:23So each time, you have to be upgrading to something good, something better, that's what I think.
04:39And do you have clients who come back to you? Yeah, I do get positive reviews, I do get positive
04:46feedback from clients. And how did it all started from tailoring to the shop? Working with my best
04:54friend as well, like I told you, I used to getting to know all this was through my best friend.
05:01So in the
05:01process of learning with him, we decided to open up a store with him. The more we said getting like
05:07clients, the more we said getting like more connections, that's when we said like, okay,
05:13we had to open up the store. Exposure as well, that's what I should say. The exposure came through
05:18when we had to, we worked with one of the presidential, one of the MPs, Honorable Chagulani,
05:26where we had to do for him a suit as well. We had to do for him a suit and
05:30yeah. You told me as well,
05:33that you went to fashion shows like off camera, you told me? Yes, yes, yes. Yeah. And how would,
05:38are they in Uganda or in other African countries? No, they're within Uganda. So these fashion shows,
05:44the showcases I've been to, I've been able to also like have exposure, you really get to interact with
05:51different fashion kings, like fashion people, like fashion businesses and brands as well. I've
05:59really got exposure through that as well. Do you have any dreams for the future because you told
06:05that you did already some shots for the president? I'm looking at having a brand that is there not
06:14only to dress, but also to teach and learn. I would love the knowledge to pass it on to different
06:21people
06:21with different friends. I would love to pass it on to a brother, I would love to pass it on
06:26to a sister.
06:27Would also love to have a brand, to have a brand that's not only fashion, but also culture.
06:34We look at a picture of culture. What is your vision? My vision is to create awareness about
06:41the fashion industry and culture, to create an environment where everyone will be free to
06:50have a suit. I would also love to reach out to organizations as well through charity. I do have a
06:58charity program that I run with my best friend as well, where we, from whatever we do,
07:04we usually pick out a percentage and give back to the community. That's really nice. I'm really
07:10excited and I should say let's, let's go for the whole process now. Like how are we going from
07:16fabric to suit? Yes, yes, we're going to go through that. So hey guys, what we're going to do is
07:23we're
07:23going to get fabric for Jessica, have a measure and see what's next. Let's take some measurements.
07:30All right, so next we're going to do some measurements on Jessica, her body measurements.
07:45Yeah, we're done. Nice.
07:47This is Emmanuel Sharma Kato representing ACS culture alongside Kali Clothing Kampala. Kali Clothing Kampala

08:13my website www.kaliclothing.com, shall get you sorted. Okay guys, I just wanted to say like, oh,
08:21I feel such like a celebrity because people from the shop recognized me and I had a really nice driver
08:28on
08:28the way through the tailor and he wants to be my private driver. Oh my God, look at me. People
08:35recognized me and then I end up in a huge rain storm. I had another Uber driver who didn't have
08:45any change.
08:46So we had to go to the supermarket to get some money so I could pay him. I came home
08:54in a clean house.
08:55I'm very thankful of that because we let the caretaker clean our house. So that's really nice.
09:02But there is no power. So yeah, I'm here in a clean house with no power. But hey, life is
09:08good and I'm
09:08thankful. And yeah, I'm going to eat now. Finally my lunch. It is almost half past three. I had two
09:17chapatis because the restaurant didn't have any beans and it was too much rain to go to another restaurant.
09:22So two chapatis it is. I'm going to enjoy my lunch now. This is my famous life.
09:29Oh, but you know what? I like it.
10:01I'm going to be here.
10:02I'm going to go.
