00:00Running through our BMF grades from Sunday's win over the Seattle Seahawks.
00:04We started with the quarterback position.
00:06We both gave Marcus an A.
00:08Running backs, we said a B.
00:10B, the tight ends.
00:12And I really want to credit, John Bates has been really good as a blocker.
00:15I thought Yankoff and Sinnott were both quite physical,
00:18and they're running lots of multi-tight end sets.
00:21You're just not getting offensive production from that position.
00:24Yeah, I mean, but the thing of it,
00:25are they really trying to get the ball to the tight ends?
00:29I mean, it's a fair question.
00:31I mentioned this before the season.
00:34Having a Diggs and a Williams is going to affect what you're doing.
00:41And then once a Conco left,
00:43then they wanted those guys to work more that area,
00:47that free area underneath.
00:48I don't believe that the other tight ends have shown you
00:52that they can be those route runners.
00:54So instead of forcing it to them,
00:56they're now using a guy who we thought to be a slot receiver in that Williams
01:01and a guy who's become one in Diggs,
01:04and they're working that underneath.
01:06If you notice, they bring in De'Ami,
01:08they bring in Trelon,
01:09and those two guys are outside getting a lot of plays too.
01:12So they were in this offense in a different way
01:15where it's probably places Chegg would be,
01:18but they're using running back.
01:20I mean, receivers that are very good at getting that space.
01:23For sure.
01:24And maybe, how do you feel about getting Chegg back on the field this week?
01:28I'm loving it.
01:29Do you think it's going to happen?
01:30I think it will.
01:32I feel like that is actually...
01:33You don't fly this far if something is still messed up with you.
01:37That one feels like it's tracking the right way, I would say.
01:41You know, we'll obviously find out.
01:43But I think the tight end position on Sunday, to me, is probably a C.
01:51Yankoff had a catch for two yards.
01:53Bates had a catch for nine yards.
01:54That's two for 11.
01:55Sennett had one target, no catches.
01:57You had two catches for 11 yards from a tight end position
02:00that's on the field a lot.
02:01C-plus.
02:03Okay.
02:04O-line.
02:05I thought the O-line was damn good in this game.
02:06I'm giving O-line B-plus.
02:08But well, why?
02:09Because Connelly showed up.
02:14I got...
02:15When I talked to Ray, he immediately was talking about Coleman.
02:18We saw Patrick get hurt and come back.
02:22Alec Grady had to jump around a couple of little spots.
02:24You know, you didn't have your best guy, Dan Cosme,
02:29and Chris Paul played well, too.
02:31So as I look at those guys,
02:33I feel that what Marcus did
02:36and getting the ball down the field
02:38it had a lot to do with what they were doing up front.
02:40Yeah, I thought the O-line...
02:41And you played against a defense that...
02:43You can say it.
02:44The number one defense out there.
02:46And they handled their business.
02:48Seattle got two sacks on the game.
02:50There weren't even that many quarterback hits.
02:52Like, Marcus was under duress,
02:54but it wasn't that significant.
02:56I thought Alec Grady was good.
02:57The guy, Lucas Patrick, was good.
03:00That offensive line play is about cohesion.
03:04About five guys is one.
03:06And they're really doing a well-done job of that.
03:11A guy that deserves some credit.
03:13Darnell Stapleton.
03:14First year running the room on his own,
03:16the offensive line coach.
03:17Like, you've got young players
03:20mostly on that line.
03:22Connerly, Coleman.
03:24And there's a level of cohesion
03:27that they understand.
03:28I mean, they had to go to Matt Goulbin
03:30for real snaps in that game.
03:32And Brian Baldinger,
03:33I don't know if folks saw this,
03:36Brian Baldinger did a breakdown
03:37of Nick Allegretti
03:38and kind of just the guts
03:40and the way he played.
03:42Like, offensive line play
03:44is not about stars and stats.
03:46It's about creating opportunities,
03:49especially against that Seattle front.
03:51Yep.
03:52Where your offense is able to function.
03:54And they weren't great on third down.
03:56Like, there wasn't a lot of great stuff
03:58for Washington.
04:00But they were able to move the ball
04:02and take advantage of turnovers.
04:04And that's what you need to do.
04:05But, like, when Darnell got the job,
04:08I made the comments,
04:09because I would watch him in pregame.
04:12Yeah.
04:12He worked with those guys a lot.
04:14So he had a rapport with him.
04:16And they seemed to respond to him rather good.
04:19So I'm just looking for this thing
04:21to keep improving.
04:22If you look around,
04:23we talked about the coordinators.
04:25They got a lot of guys getting that chance
04:26for the first time.
04:28And I think they're doing good jobs.
04:30Well, you got a lot of hungry guys
04:32getting those opportunities, right?
04:35The wide receivers.
04:36McLaurin finally kind of opened his season off.
04:39Six catches for 77 yards and a touchdown.
04:43Terry was also targeted nine times.
04:45We've heard the ten targets a game from Terry.
04:48They got close.
04:50Steph was targeted seven times,
04:51had four catches for 33 yards.
04:54Jalen Lane, I really liked the call
04:56and the concept on that little slip middle screen.
04:58Lane had one catch for 21 yards.
05:00The rookie, and honestly,
05:02the only real knock I would say
05:04on the receiver group,
05:05the rookie Antonio Williams.
05:06Lying up in the right spot, yeah.
05:08Two catches on four targets for 15 yards.
05:12One, and that's something he's going to learn,
05:14that he's got to step up on the line
05:16after they audible the formation there.
05:18That cost a 50-yard touchdown run from Bill.
05:22And I was pretty surprised.
05:24Antonio Williams had that drop
05:26on a nice deep ball from Marcus
05:27in the second half of that game.
05:29So my only real knock
05:30for the receiver position in this game
05:32would be on the rook.
05:34Trey Burks had the touchdown catch.
05:36Two catches on two targets for 13 yards.
05:38I like seeing Trey back out there
05:41because he gives him something different
05:42with his physicality.
05:44Yeah, something different.
05:45And in the game against Dallas,
05:48he showed a little bit more speed
05:49than I thought he had.
05:52So I'm liking that about him.
05:53And I think as he goes forward,
05:55that big bite is going to help.
05:58Going one step further,
05:59Luke McCaffrey was back up,
06:01returning kicks.
06:03Average 30 yards of return.
06:04I thought Luke looked pretty good in that role.
06:06I don't know that that role's enough
06:08to keep him on the active.
06:10De'Ami Brown is also just a dog
06:13when it comes to blocking
06:14at the receiver position.
06:15See, and being a receiver
06:17is not just about being a receiver.
06:19When a running back has a big run,
06:21somebody has to be blocking downfield.
06:24And De'Ami is normally that type of guy.
06:25So you can make yourself
06:29much more useful and viable
06:31when you do everything he does.
06:35Receiver grade overall,
06:36I think it's pretty good.
06:38B?
06:39Yeah, I go with that.
06:40I mean, it's tough when your rookie
06:42costs you a 50-yard touchdown run
06:43and can't get his hands around
06:45what would have been a big gain.
06:48Offensively overall in this game,
06:49I think it's like a B performance.
06:51You know, they weren't good on third down.
06:53They were 3 of 13 on third down.
06:55They only put up...
06:56Do you have any concern, B,
06:59in wondering the sustainability of...
07:03I mean, they were outgained 258 to 437.
07:08They just had the turnovers go their way.
07:10Is that a sustainable model?
07:13No, it's not a sustainable...
07:14If you're allowing that many...
07:16If the team is not turning the ball over
07:18and they're getting yards like that,
07:20they're going to put some massive numbers up on you.
07:23But I think this offense can be...
07:28can score more points at the end.
07:30And I think this defense
07:32can begin to hinder them some.
07:37That was the third week of this whole defense.
07:40I think they're going to get better.
07:42Well, and you get Luvu back.
07:44It could help a lot.
07:45They'll get better
07:45and they'll start putting more pressure on...
07:47And you're not going to have
07:48a Jackson Smith and Jigba every week.
07:50Exactly.
07:51You know?
07:51Like, I mean, the Colts
07:52do not have a Jackson Smith and Jigba.
07:55The Colts' vertical threat
07:56is Alec Pierce,
07:57who I believe is on IR.
08:00Through three games,
08:02the Colts average...
08:04I mean, they're 25th
08:06in passing yards in the NFL.
08:07It's not like Danny Dimes
08:08has been lighting it up.
08:11Through three games,
08:12Danny Dimes is averaging...
08:13He's completing about 66% of his passes,
08:16a little over 200 yards a game,
08:18three touchdowns against three picks.
08:20And I do like the matchup.
08:22What Indy wants to do,
08:24get big,
08:25multiple tight ends on the field,
08:26and try to run it down your throat
08:27with Jonathan Taylor,
08:28who's obviously a legit stud.
08:31Taylor comes into the game,
08:3466 carries,
08:35258 yards,
08:36four rushing touchdowns
08:38through three games.
08:38Pretty darn impressive.
08:40He's averaging about 70 a game,
08:42I think.
08:42I'm sorry,
08:43about 85 a game.
08:44He does help you through the air.
08:46He's got nine catches on the year
08:47for about 70 yards.
08:48But I like Washington's rush defense
08:51and their ability to match up
08:53in this thing.
08:54I think that has to stay
08:56as it's been
08:57and improve
08:58to get a win here.
09:00The run defense.
09:02Totally.
09:03Like,
09:04I mean,
09:04you've got to continue
09:05to have that level.
09:07Their rush defense
09:08for the commanders right now,
09:10third in the NFL
09:11in yards allowed.
09:12They're giving up
09:12fewer than four yards a carry.
09:14They're giving up
09:143.8 yards per carry.
09:16They are third in the NFL
09:18in yards allowed.
09:20They're first in touchdowns
09:21surrendered on the ground.
09:22So I do think
09:23if that's Indy's game plan
09:25coming into this thing,
09:26it's kind of strength on strength.
09:29Let's do our grades
09:30for the defense.
09:31Let's start with the linebackers
09:32who had a hell of a day.
09:34A plus.
09:34Yeah.
09:35I'm just going there.
09:37You get a pick six,
09:38you get another interception,
09:40another forced fumble,
09:42and yeah,
09:43they stood up.
09:44You know what I'm saying?
09:45So it's hard to give them
09:46anything but A.
09:48How silly,
09:49and to our credit,
09:52you and I said
09:53it was silly then,
09:54say it's silly now,
09:55but the conversation's
09:57in mid-August
09:57about Sonny Stiles.
09:58And it wasn't everybody,
09:59but it was enough people.
10:04That's why sometimes
10:05we just got to ignore
10:06some people.
10:07You know,
10:08yes,
10:09everybody has an opinion,
10:10but you don't have to give
10:11everybody's opinion
10:12a platform.
10:15Agreed.
10:16You know what I'm saying?
10:16The defensive line Sunday,
10:18I thought performed really well.
10:20If you look at,
10:21I mean,
10:21Seattle could not run
10:23the football.
10:23Jadarian Price had five carries
10:24for 15 yards with a fumble.
10:27Emmanuel Wilson,
10:28nine for 14.
10:29He averaged 1.6 a pop.
10:31They even got the guy
10:31Helani a couple carries.
10:33He was at 3.3 a pop.
10:35This defensive line
10:36has been really good
10:37against the run.
10:38From a pass rush situation,
10:42I wouldn't say
10:44it was phenomenal.
10:44I don't think Darnold
10:46was sacked in that game,
10:47but they impacted him enough
10:50that,
10:51and maybe some of it
10:52was a little bit of rust,
10:53but they didn't have a sack.
10:55You'd like to get more
10:57pressure on the quarterback,
10:59but I do think
11:01the defensive line
11:02held up pretty well,
11:03and I thought they were
11:03damn good against the run.
11:04Oh,
11:04they did.
11:04They did.
11:05I mean,
11:06they were great against the run.
11:07They got,
11:08when they get to the quarterback,
11:10they just got to get them down,
11:11bro.
11:13And Sam moves better
11:15than people give him credit for
11:16because people think
11:17moving means running.
11:19No,
11:20sliding.
11:20Tom Brady was not very fast.
11:22Case Keenum was so effective
11:23in the pocket.
11:23Tom Brady wasn't an athlete
11:24other than throwing a football,
11:26but he knows how to move
11:27in the pocket.
11:28Right.
11:28When we return,
11:29we're going to talk about
11:30the defensive backs.
11:31You saw a hell of a ball game
11:33from Amik Robertson,
11:35but you saw some other guys
11:36out there that continue
11:37to be problems.
11:38We'll give away the BMF award.
11:40Sam Monson joins us at noon.
