00:06And we, in reality, devore images of evil every day on social media, TV, and with podcasts.
00:17What does, in your point of view, what does this movie reveal about our hunger for darkness?
00:25Oh my goodness. It's such a good question.
00:30And it really kind of gets to the heart of why I wanted to make this film.
00:33Is because, I think ten years ago I would have had a different approach to it.
00:38But because it was now, and because I read the script at the end of 2024.
00:47I saw, I've seen, we've all seen, the world change because of social media.
00:52And I just couldn't help but draw parallels between the script that I had just read.
00:57And the world in which I'm living. We're all living.
01:01where we've never had more access to each other, but it's always through a filter.
01:06We're not really spending time together with people in real life.
01:11We're seeing images of each other that are curated, that are edited,
01:16that have a filter put on them to make them more beautiful.
01:21And so, but we're encouraged to have real relationships with somebody that we don't know at all.
01:28And as a result, we're starting to have these really strong snap judgments.
01:31and the ability to have a conversation, to hold and, to hear another person's point of view,
01:38to move through the world with the grace required to share space with others.
01:43That's in my, from my point of view, starting to diminish, and that's really what happened,
01:48what you witness in this movie.
01:51You know, Loewen never has a conversation with Verity. Never.
01:56And she, and she, and she takes what she has available to her, and she is,
02:01becomes so committed to her own certainty that she makes a,
02:06and she makes a decision that you can't undo. Let's put it that way.
02:09Verity plays constantly between fiction and reality, and the truth in a movie is a sort of a battlefield.
02:20In your point of view, is the truth unpopular nowadays?
02:24I don't know if it's unpopular, but nowadays, it feels like the world is full of opportunities
02:30where you can choose your own truth. And that, and that feels very strange,
02:33because a fact should be a fact, and if it's a fact for one, it should be a fact for
02:37all.
02:37And it feels very strange to be living in a time where that's not necessarily an agreed upon reality.
