00:00thank you thank you mark well I want to say we did this movie called in memoriam
00:06that isn't out yet and mark is amazing in this movie just amazing it's
00:15unbelievable so Academy members prepare yourself I was astounded I have to say
00:30thank you variety to be chosen among this illustrious group of women that I can now
00:41call my compatriots which is a marvel to me I mean Perlana it's the boss of a
00:51network for God's sake I mean Jennifer Hudson is a voice of a century
01:06clearly Melissa McCarthy is the boss of comedy I think no contest there all of
01:16you all of you women it's just it's a miracle to me to be among you and I'm
01:25really completely gobsmacked that this is happening in my lifetime I come from a
01:34tiny it isn't even a town it's like a village and it's an Amish village that is
01:44a port town in Pennsylvania where all the good and all the horrible rolls in like
01:51every port town but it's really tempered because it's mostly an Amish town which
01:58really changes the climate of things and left me very very naive so when I got into
02:05this business it would be safe to say I did not know my ass from my elbow and I
02:11have been very sheltered and very cared for and very helped by many of you in this
02:16room and I just want to say you're all still fucking fabulous and to those of you who let
02:27me lean on you I really appreciate that you know in this small town environment that I come from I
02:38had a
02:38very very cool powerful dad who worked in a tool and die factory and he works swing
02:46shift which for those of you who come from this town and don't know what that
02:52kind of work is you work first shift one week second shift the next week and third
02:57shift the next week and then you start over and it's really hard and he worked in a
03:02factory an hour away and my dad had a lot of pride and was a Democrat in a town where
03:09the
03:10newspaper was called the Tribune Republican hmm and he was the kind of guy who you know we had a
03:18flagpole in the side yard and the flag went up on these special holidays and when someone that we
03:27cared about something happened the fire chief was hurt or killed or the president remember when I was
03:35really little and President Kennedy was shot oh flag went up you know because we were proud and Patriots
03:44and there was never this sense that when the flag went up it was a compromising concerning scandalous
03:53consideration and this is why I've chosen the American Civil Liberties Union to stand with
04:05because I'm a product of the American Dream
04:15the very fact that I'm here and I would venture to guess if I could speak a little bit
04:23on behalf of my brand new compatriots I don't think any of us were born on well my street was
04:30actually called Park Avenue but not really so I don't think any of us really were born on Park Avenue
04:39and I don't think anybody was rushing down to kick that door open to swing it open for any of
04:45us gals
04:49nope as I used to tell people you can only fuck your way to the middle
04:58you have to claw your way to the top
05:11so for those of us that got here
05:18it's the top of our heads that broke that glass ceiling that you're all getting the benefits of
05:24Perlana thank you
05:32J-Hud thank you
05:37Melissa you're fucking hilarious and thank you
05:42Issa thank you all of you
05:46you know
05:49it matters to me
05:52that our very first
05:55amendment
05:57is the freedom of speech
06:03it matters to me that that includes the freedom of the press and that is you variety
06:14and it matters very much to me
06:19you'll forgive me
06:23I brought my powder puff
06:27I am an actress after all
06:29a lot of emotions
06:32but it matters to me
06:34that red white and blue
06:42and I have gone the distance
06:46I have gone the distance from being a sex symbol
06:49and I like all of you am still hot
06:59and I did it
07:01by keeping both of these tired feet
07:06that hurt from wearing four inch heels on poured concrete floors
07:11I kept them firmly planted on terra firma
07:16because there is no gray in the red white and blue
07:27so the power that I feel
07:31in the power of women
07:33I get because I am standing in the middle of you
07:39and I do not stand alone when I stand there
07:44thank you
07:50I do not stand there
07:51the same one
07:51but no one
07:51is
07:51I am
07:52being
07:52happy
