SCP-019 is an unbreakable, Classical Greek ceramic vase of anomalous internal volume. Periodically, hostile, short-lived, small humanoid or animaloid entities (SCP-019-2) emerge from its opening. Disturbance, threats, environmental shifts, or foreign introductions drastically accelerate their production rate into swarm-level outbreaks. Furthermore, the entities demonstrate adaptive evolution over time against countermeasures, suggesting underlying sentience within the anomaly itself.

00:08It was a sweltering August on the Greek island of Crete a little over 20 years ago.
00:13The team of archaeologists arrived by helicopter to unveil what could be the find of the century.
00:19What the public would never know was that this was a group operating under the auspices of the
00:23SCP Foundation Department of Archaeology, here to carry out a special mission.
00:29In the last few months, almost a dozen tourists had disappeared under mysterious circumstances
00:34while in the proximity of a certain ruin.
00:37While Crete may have been the home of one famous monster, we wanted to see if there was another
00:41one we needed to worry about.
00:43And yes, I do mean we, because I, Dr. Bob, was part of the expedition team.
00:49Of course, I wasn't Dr. Bob at the time.
00:51It would be easier to think of me as Agent Bob.
00:54I tried my hand at being a field agent before a harrowing experience on the job had me settle
01:00down into research, but that's a story for another day.
01:04By the way, if you'd like to know more about my extensive and mysterious past at the SCP
01:09Foundation, this channel is the only place you can do it.
01:12That's why I'd recommend you subscribe and hit the bell to turn on notifications and never
01:16miss another video.
01:17There's an interesting secret hiding in there if you can put all the pieces together.
01:24Back on Crete, I was escorting Dr. Ron Waters, Dr. Jen Jarmusch, and Dr. Edward Wright to the
01:30underground ruin that had been the nexus point for all the disappearances.
01:33I had another field agent, Agent Weaving, assisting me on that front.
01:37We remained vigilant as we tried to maintain our footing on uneven terrain, moving from crumbling
01:42rocky spires to the dusty paths that had been walked by ancient Greeks thousands of years
01:48ago.
01:49Weaving, who was known for his psychic sensitivity that some of our superiors had jokingly nicknamed
01:54his spidey senses, seemed on edge.
01:57He grimaced, like he'd had a bitter taste in his mouth.
02:00A common synesthetic response to residual signs of malefic energy or molecules.
02:06I think your boy might be here after all, Bob, he said, quiet enough that it didn't interrupt
02:11the archaeological conjecture of our wards.
02:13Tastes like old blood and bad magic.
02:16I nodded.
02:18I don't often say this, Weaving, but I hope you're right.
02:21You see, I hadn't been selected randomly to go on this mission.
02:24It was an active request on my part the second I'd heard of an expedition onto Crete.
02:29Not only am I a great fan of Greek food, Greek views, and Greek weather, but my previous visits
02:35to the land of Halada had given me a personal stake, the capture of Stavros Kosmatos, one
02:41of the most dangerous 5thist thaumaturgists in all of Europe, who fancied himself a shot at
02:46claiming Olympus for himself.
02:47He was the architect of the Gnosis Massacre in the 1980s, an attempted ascension ritual that
02:52claimed the lives of 30 people.
02:54If something about this place was significant to him or the ritual he'd hoped to perform,
02:59it only made sense that he'd return here at some point and try to finish what he'd begun.
03:04I was jogged out of my contemplations when Dr. Wright screamed and pointed in front of
03:09him.
03:09There was a shape in the dark, small, about half of any of our heights, but fast moving.
03:15It was by pure luck that I was able to draw my H&K pistol before it began lunging towards
03:19the archaeologists, giving me just enough time to pop off two shots into the shape's center
03:24mass.
03:25It gave a gurgling screech in what was either shock or pain before scuttling back into the
03:30dark.
03:31It seemed that we'd just found our anomaly.
03:34Weaving radioed for backup, while the archaeologist trio, despite feeling a little shaken by the
03:39near miss, insisted that we go deeper into the ruins.
03:42If we were meeting resistance, they said, it stood to reason that we were getting closer
03:46to something important.
03:47And knowing that Cosmatos might somehow be involved in this, I overrode Weaving's caution
03:53and sided with the academics.
03:56To this day, I'll wonder to myself whether I made the right decision.
03:59Whether what we lost was truly justified by what we gained.
04:03But at the time, I wasn't thinking any of that.
04:06We surged forward, knowing at this point that any element of surprise we had was immediately
04:10shattered when I fired my gun.
04:12If anything or anyone was down here, they'd know that we were here.
04:17We soon entered a kind of central chamber, which we quickly noticed was dominated by a
04:22considerable archaeological find.
04:24A giant ancient Greek vase, taller and wider than anyone standing in the room.
04:29But for me, the enormity of the vase was nothing compared to the shadow looming over it.
04:35Stavros Cosmatos himself, dressed in purple robes with intricate celestial patterns, gesturing
04:41and chanting in a language that sounded like buzzing flies and metal scraping on metal.
04:46We were practically frozen as we watched a hideous, gremlin-like entity with broken glass
04:52fangs and claws climb out of the vase and turn its hateful gaze towards us, its pinkish
04:58flesh raw and vascular.
05:00That must have been the thing we encountered in the dark, I thought, perhaps stating the
05:05obvious at this point.
05:06But what was less obvious was that several of these creatures had already been born at
05:10this point, and they'd been waiting for us.
05:14Suddenly, that high-pitched screeching seemed to be coming from every angle, echoing off the
05:19ancient walls of the chamber as Stavros continued his arcana chant.
05:23Weaving and I did what we could to keep the archaeologists covered on all sides, but neither
05:27of us were ready for the sheer ferocity of the attack.
05:30They came lunging for us from above and below.
05:34Clawed arms outstretched, fangs born and dripping.
05:37Every time I had one of them locked between my iron sights for long enough to squeeze the
05:41trigger and send a white-hot round howling through its bony chest, another seemed to emerge
05:45from the dark, rocketing towards me full of violent fury.
05:49Weaving, it seemed, was similarly overmatched.
05:52He ran dry in his magazine, but rather than taking the time to risk or reload, he reached for
05:57the sheets on his belt.
05:58He drew the long black blade of his lucky bayonet, a Vietnam relic passed down by his
06:04grandfather.
06:04I'd often joke that he looked silly carrying it around everywhere, but as he cleaved through
06:09one of the monsters mid-leap, I felt like I needed to eat my words.
06:14Stavros!
06:14I heard Dr. Jarma shout over the chaos.
06:17Shoot, Stavros!
06:19It made sense, didn't it?
06:21When you've got a homicidal wizard chanting over a large pot that's belching out vicious
06:25little monsters, it stands to reason that if you execute the wizard, you also end the
06:30hostile phenomenon.
06:31So I nodded and acted on the orders of my superior, turning and aiming at the man I'd
06:36come here to apprehend.
06:37Three rounds tore through his abdomen in quick succession.
06:41He seemed so... shocked.
06:44I think that's what stays with me.
06:46It was as though in all the decades he'd operated and all the terrible things he'd done, he somehow
06:51never expected that any kind of serious harm would befall him.
06:55It was only as he looked down and saw blood soaking through his ornate ceremonial garb that
07:00it sunk into his mind he'd been dealt a fatal blow.
07:05You fools!
07:06He said, mouth bubbling with blood as it filled his lungs.
07:10I was holding it back!
07:14Those were the last words he managed before slumping forward, head first, into the vase.
07:19It was large enough for his entire body to slump inside, his legs disappearing into the
07:24dark.
07:25For a moment, despite his words, I let myself believe that this would be the end of it.
07:30Weaving had never even stopped cutting down the creatures with the lethal edge of his bayonet,
07:34and the archaeologists were staring on expectantly.
07:38Then the vase began to rattle, as though some unknown contents were reaching boiling point.
07:44Weaving must have received the psychic impression of what was about to happen, before my intuition,
07:49did the same.
07:50He turned to the rest of us with an ashen face and simply screamed,
07:55RUN!
07:56If you ever, in younger, more innocent ears, placed a mento into a bottle of Coca-Cola and
08:01stood back as the soda fountained out of the top of the bottle, you're already halfway there.
08:06To get the rest of the way to what I witnessed in the moments that followed, replace said bottle
08:11of Coca-Cola with the ancient vase and replace the fountain of sticky brown soft drink with
08:16instead, a hellish pink torrent of screeching, clawing creatures.
08:21It was unlike anything I'd seen before.
08:24Hundreds of them filled the chamber, more than we could hope to shoot or chop.
08:28They took over us in a biting, clawing tide, with weaving, who had a slight psychic head start on the
08:33rest of us, forging forwards into the epicenter of the horrors, who insulate us from the worst of it,
08:38packing away as though heading through a dense jungle.
08:40I fired off the last of my ammo, but really, all I could do was watch helplessly, as my friend
08:46was torn apart by so many of those creatures.
08:50Weaving saved us twice that day.
08:53The second time was when he sacrificed himself to buy me and the archaeologists just a few
08:58more seconds to put distance between us and the horrors.
09:01The first time he'd done it was sometime before we'd even entered the chamber, when he had the
09:06foresight to radio for backup before we went in.
09:08A heavily armed mobile task force with squad automatic weapons and an evac chopper met us
09:13at the door, helped extract the academics and subdue the monsters in the ruins.
09:17I was grateful to be alive.
09:20I still wonder if Weaving would have been alive too if we'd just heeded his warning and waited
09:25a little longer for backup.
09:27I'm sorry, old friend.
09:30This was the rather eventful story behind our first discovery of SCP-019, nicknamed for
09:36reasons that should be obvious, the Monster Pot.
09:39It's a huge vase in the ancient Greek style, imprinted with vibrant images of Hellenic gods
09:45and swooping birds, nearly two meters across and over two meters in height.
09:49According to all the empirical evidence we've gathered through trial and error, and I really
09:54do mean exclusively error.
09:56This thing is completely and utterly indestructible.
10:00And the reason why the Foundation very much wishes to destruct SCP-019 is that every hour,
10:06seemingly on the hour, it will produce, at minimum, one of these small and extremely aggressive
10:11humanoid entities.
10:12It will attack any being unlucky enough to enter their presence, and if you're lucky, you'll
10:17only be seeing one of them.
10:19During swarming incidents, a huge number of the creatures have crawled out of the pot at
10:23once, causing an even greater threat for people who make the mistake of wanting a closer look
10:28at a marvelous ancient artifact.
10:30Ever since the containment of SCP-019 began, I've noticed certain disturbing patterns when
10:36it comes to the nature of the anomaly itself.
10:38Given that the pot is, as I've mentioned before, completely indestructible, it is kept inside
10:43a concrete containment cube fitted with an extremely powerful incinerator, which is turned on
10:48in the event of a swarming incident.
10:50It's imperative that the pot is kept upright.
10:53Any tilting will result in a massive increase of these monstrous creatures crawling out of
10:57the top.
10:58My dear colleagues, Dr. Sophia Light and Dr. Vo, have since taken over the containment
11:04and study responsibilities of SCP-019.
11:07She ordered the capture of one of the monsters inside 019, dubbed SCP-019-02, for further study,
11:14keeping it inside its own containment chamber, where it was fed live chickens and closely
11:19observed.
11:20It did little aside from attempting to scratch its way out of the chamber and muttering in
11:24a strange, garbled tongue that was at least superficially similar to ancient Hellenic languages,
11:30suggesting they might be more intelligent than we'd first anticipated.
11:34Long-term study was deemed unfeasible, though, because the subject's health abruptly declined
11:39and it passed away no less than 48 hours after it first exited SCP-019.
11:45Whenever this experiment was attempted, it played out exactly the same way, with the creature
11:49never living beyond the 48-hour mark.
11:52Dissections were performed on each one, finding that they were biologically similar to your typical
11:57carbon-based lifeforms you'd find here on Earth.
11:59But if there's some kind of god or demiurge out there, he was definitely asleep at the
12:04wheel when he threw this little tragedy together.
12:07Each instance had an extremely unstable musculoskeletal system and respiratory system, and very little
12:12if any digestive system to speak of.
12:15Beyond that, the creature didn't have any other organs at all, suggesting that even the
12:19short life it experienced was something of a miracle, or an act of cosmic cruelty, depending
12:25on your angle of approach.
12:26It suggests that perhaps these entities were never meant to live for a long period, almost
12:31as though they're little more than biologically complex antibodies, almost like a defense
12:37system designed to emerge and attack anyone who threatened the overall safety or sanctity
12:41of the pot.
12:42It would certainly explain the huge number of factors we've currently logged that can
12:47cause an increased emergence of SCP-019-02.
12:51The current tally in our files includes, but is shockingly not limited to, movement of
12:56SCP-019, threat to SCP-019, extreme temperature highs and lows, sudden shifts in the surrounding
13:03environment, and the introduction of objects or organisms to the inside of SCP-019, which
13:08can activate particularly nasty swarms.
13:11And while we don't have certainty on these yet, there are also factors that we're at
13:16least pretty sure can increase the levels of monster production, including the presence
13:20of human life near SCP-019, the current weather patterns, and even specific individuals who
13:26seem to cause greater levels of monster emergence through proximity than others.
13:30Oh, and you're in for absolute hell if you attempt to tilt or shift the thing if I hadn't
13:34already made that clear.
13:35Thankfully, the incinerator has allowed my fellow Foundation personnel to automate the
13:40process of culling the 019-2 instances, with motion sensors and infrared cameras detecting
13:46whenever there's an emergence.
13:48It was a kind of self-sustaining containment system that required very little oversight.
13:52Until very recently, anyway.
13:55You see, a few months ago, Dr. Light made the observation that some of the creatures from
13:59the pot actually managed to survive the incineration.
14:02They leapt from the fire and began clawing away at the walls of their cells, until guards
14:06with M-16 rifles entered and shot the creatures dead.
14:09This was viewed as a peculiar anomaly at first, which we are not strangers to here at the Foundation,
14:15until it happened again and again and again.
14:19And the concerning thing is, each time a greater number of the creatures survived the incineration
14:24process.
14:25As of last week, the grand majority of the monsters that exited the pot in the last week
14:29have managed to survive incineration, and needed to be put down through conventional arms fire.
14:36This has led to many of my colleagues proposing that perhaps more research needs to be dedicated
14:40to SCP-019, and the possibility that it's evolving its defensive system.
14:46And if that is indeed happening, I can only say that it might not be long before we need
14:51larger guns to put these creatures down.
14:53But that's not what I'm worried about, personally.
14:55I'm a little more worried about what happens after that.
15:00Want more monsters and mayhem?
15:02Don't worry, Dr. Bob has you covered.
15:05May I recommend my thrilling case study?
15:07SCP-745 looks like a car, but it's actually a deadly predator.
