01:46What are we ready for?
01:47We're ready for war!
01:48Conor vs. Hebea.
01:50To fight from Romano Medal!
01:52What darkness lies beyond victory?
01:54The whole place goes crazy, everybody's fighting.
01:58All hell is broken loose!
02:00How do those guys have guns?
02:02Whatever's gonna happen, if you die, you die.
02:04He held that anger to the very end.
02:06He was composed to the very end, and then he let it go.
02:27We're talking about arguably the biggest rivalry in UFC history.
02:31So, that's a lot of fights.
02:33That's a lot of different paths crossing.
02:35So, what made this one so big?
02:38Everything.
02:39The rivalry between Conor McGregor and Habib Nurmagomedov
02:43was a very, very special one.
02:46You have Conor McGregor.
02:48He loves to push buttons.
02:50If you can't aim for peace, aim between the eyes.
02:53He loves pushing what I call the art of war.
02:56I was preparing for victory.
02:57He was preparing for defeat.
02:59You cannot roam from your mind.
03:00He does whatever he can to upset his opponents.
03:03And on the other end, you have a strict Muslim.
03:06Everything God gave me.
03:08That follows the Quran and what he should do.
03:11Five times a day, there's a call to prayer.
03:13They don't around.
03:15They are water and oil in literally every kind of sense.
03:19Both born in 1988, but separated by 2,500 miles in two very different cultures.
03:26Conor McGregor and Habib Nurmagomedov seem to be from different worlds.
03:31But through combat sports, they each find a path to escape their similarly impoverished childhoods.
03:41Habib grows up in the close-knit rural village of Sildi, Dagestan, Russia, with his parents and his siblings.
03:48Habib's family had a rough life starting out.
03:50He didn't have the things he wanted, the clothes that he wanted, the food maybe wasn't there like he wanted.
03:55My name is Javier Mendez.
03:57I'm the owner, founder of AKA, known as American Kickboxing Academy.
04:02And I've been Habib Nurmagomedov's coach since 2012.
04:06His family, they live in the mountain village.
04:08They weren't rich.
04:09If you understand how they are over there, they help each other out.
04:13And his father was supporting everybody.
04:17Habib's father, Adulmanap Amegomenov, a decorated military officer and wrestling coach, trains his children and creates a legacy of martial
04:25arts throughout the Dagestani community.
04:28His father sold some of the livestock to start a gym for the boys to train, for the neighbors and
04:34everybody to come train at the gym.
04:35It wasn't for money.
04:36He was training for free.
04:37His father had a vision that they could better their lives.
04:41He had developed a system that worked.
04:43And then he had these children that were bought into it.
04:46My name is Brett Okamoto.
04:48I'm an MMA journalist.
04:49And I've been lucky and fortunate enough to be behind the scenes of the biggest moments in MMA history.
04:54They're like a mystery, kind of, you know?
04:56It's like a different breed of people.
04:58We can't really understand, like, oh, they're from the mountains.
05:01My name is Al Iaquinta, Raging Al.
05:05I fought Khabib Nurmagomedov, UFC 223, the Barclays Center, here in New York.
05:12What the hell are these guys doing up there in those mountains?
05:15You know what I mean?
05:15Guys wrestling a bear.
05:17He was six, seven, eight years old.
05:19His father used to have him wrestle with bears.
05:21You know, it was a tiny bear, but still, it's a bear.
05:24It could bite you.
05:25It could claw you.
05:26I mean, man, it's dangerous.
05:28As Khabib acquires skills and learns perseverance, fighting two- and four-legged opponents in the Dagestan Mountains,
05:37half a world away, Conor McGregor is getting a similar education, surviving the mean streets of a blue-collar suburb
05:43in Dublin, Ireland.
05:45Conor is, you know, a gangster, man. He grew up in Crumblin'.
05:48It's a tough neighborhood in Ireland.
05:51My name is Dylan Dennis, multiple-time jiu-jitsu world champion, training partner to Conor McGregor, and one of his
05:56closest friends.
05:58I'm not saying he's actually, you know what I'm saying?
05:59Like, you don't mess with people that he loves or people that he is close with.
06:04I was always a small kid. I was always the smaller guy, you know what I mean?
06:07So, I was the little guy, you know what I mean?
06:08I just wanted to be able to defend myself.
06:10So, I started doing it so people wouldn't say anything, you know what I mean?
06:12So, people just leave me alone.
06:13Bully sends people to MMA gyms, you know, and that was Conor.
06:19He felt like he needed to learn how to fight.
06:22Starting with childhood boxing lessons, Conor is soon learning striking, grappling, and MMA strategy under coach John Cavanaugh,
06:31the first Irishman to earn a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
06:35John recognized the talent in Conor.
06:38He saw the mindset, I think he saw the confidence, I think he saw that when the lights are bright,
06:42he performs.
06:44John saw that, like, if we get him there, he can do it.
06:47I'm the f***ing younger.
06:49Growing up in poverty, Conor's drive to improve and his willingness to fight anyone
06:54is mostly fueled by a desire to earn money.
06:58This guy was poor.
06:59He was struggling.
07:00Like, how am I going to pay my rent?
07:02I don't have anything else coming.
07:03I don't do.
07:03There's nothing else every day.
07:05I wake up, I go shining.
07:06I watched this early documentary on him.
07:09They show this scene where, in the bedroom wall, there was, like, a curvature, a little bit.
07:19Eventually, he did it so much that the curvature of the wall actually, like, showed that.
07:24You have this dream, like, are you really going to do what it takes to accomplish this dream that you
07:29have?
07:29I said to my dad when I said, listen, I'm going to, by the time I'm 25 years old, I'm
07:34going to be a self-made millionaire.
07:35And he laughed at me.
07:36How old are you?
07:38I'm 24 now, sorry.
07:40Conor's saying he would make a million dollars at a young age.
07:42It's that speak into existence thing.
07:44It's like, speak it and it will become.
07:48He would say things like, I'm going to come into the fight game, I'm going to set it on fire,
07:51and then I'm going to leave.
07:52I'm here for the money.
07:54I'm going to steal all the money from the UFC, you know.
07:56Hightail it back to Ireland, big bag of money, the recession.
08:00Conor's plan, and I don't even say this like it's a bad thing.
08:03He wanted it for himself.
08:04He wanted fame, glory, money.
08:08Habib wanted it for his father.
08:10The relationship between Habib and his father, you couldn't get any better than a father-son relationship.
08:17Very, very intelligent, very kind man, and very disciplinary.
08:21If it's nine o'clock, you better be in line at nine o'clock.
08:26You line up straight, you don't speak until you're spoken to.
08:29I am different mentality.
08:31I am born from crazy mountains.
08:34The discipline also comes to the religion.
08:36Their religion is very, very regimented.
08:40They're not out partying, they're not out drinking, they're not out smoking.
08:46The sacrifice pays off.
08:48Habib's skill and discipline dominate Russian promotions.
08:52And from 2008 to 2011, he runs up a perfect 16-0 record.
08:59By the time he turns 23, he travels to the US to train with elite fighters
09:04at the renowned American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, California.
09:09That time at AK, we were gaining a lot of momentum.
09:13I know I had a world title through Strikeforce.
09:17Cormier had his Strikeforce title.
09:19Kane had his UFC title.
09:21I'm Luke Rockhold.
09:23I'm a friend and a teammate of Habib Namagabalov.
09:27I had no idea who Habib was.
09:29He showed up on our doorstep by himself.
09:32I was like, who's this kid?
09:34The very first time I laid eyes on Habib, he didn't speak any English.
09:39So it was really more, hi, how you doing?
09:43And he went to training right away.
09:45The first sparring session he had, you know, he killed everyone.
09:52I was getting ready for a fight and I started bringing him at like, you know, night training
09:56and he beat me on a few sprints that didn't make me happy.
10:00He was tough and he was determined and you could see how much he had in him.
10:05When people have it, they have it.
10:06I know he will be a champion.
10:08Everybody you know, we all know.
10:10My name is Ali Abdelaziz.
10:12I was a former athlete myself.
10:14And after my martial arts career finished, I began to represent an athlete as Habib.
10:21And at his UFC lightweight debut on January 20th, 2012, he doesn't disappoint his training partners.
10:32Habib's submission of Kamal Shalarous marks the arrival of a new force in the lightweight division.
10:38When Habib first started competing in the UFC, I mean, he had a lot of buzz.
10:42I'm Herb Dean and I'm a mixed martial arts referee.
10:45Habib was on everyone's radar because of his skills.
10:48You know, he was beating people and making it look easier.
10:51He never bledied in a fight.
10:53He never had a black eye in a fight.
10:54He dominated people.
10:56And here's the big slam.
10:57As Habib Nurmagomedov rises inside the UFC,
11:01Conor McGregor dominates Europe's Cage Warriors Fighting Championship.
11:06Oh!
11:08Becoming their first fighter to hold belts in two weight classes at the same time.
11:13And he's not shy about seeking the UFC's attention.
11:16The king of Las Vegas, Dana White, with the king of Dublin, the notorious Conor McGregor.
11:22It works.
11:24In April 2013, Conor makes his UFC debut against the veteran Marcus Brimage in the featherweight division.
11:31I'm gonna finish it in.
11:33This is why everyone was talking about Conor.
11:36It's all over.
11:37After a stunning first round TKO, Conor makes clear what motivates him in the octagon.
11:4360 G's baby!
11:46The moment that I was like, oh my god, this guy's a superstar, is the first time he fought Dustin
11:52Poirier.
11:52I'm gonna crack him with a jab and he's gonna wobble and I'm gonna put him away early.
11:55It's gonna be a first round KO, mark my words.
11:57He was a perfect opponent.
11:58He was established and he was also just a dog.
12:01He has a lack of experience of fighting real fighters like myself.
12:04He's a quiet little hillbilly from the back ass of nowhere.
12:08Nobody takes out Poirier like very quickly.
12:10Oh, this could be too much for Conor.
12:11Like, is this the one where he gets humbled?
12:13And then he knocked him out the first round.
12:15It is all over!
12:18Just like that!
12:19I mean, it was like the scene out of Snatch, you know, where Brad Pitts just bang!
12:23Like, just steps outside.
12:24One shot!
12:26The most competitive people don't want to win a fight that they're supposed to win.
12:29They want to win a fight that they're not supposed to win.
12:31And that's what this guy was doing to really good fighters, you know?
12:34And he was exceeding expectations all the time.
12:36It was exciting.
12:38When Khabib first met Conor, which is very cordial,
12:41very respectful, but they were in different weight divisions.
12:44He respected Conor because Conor was destroying people.
12:47Conor was the best thing in the sport, without question.
12:50Khabib understands how difficult that is to do,
12:53so I think, you know, Khabib had massive respect for it.
12:56That photo, after UFC 178 of two seemingly friendly fighters,
13:01masks what's to come.
13:03I like Conor McGregor bad.
13:05He come on 55 for me to smash him.
13:08Then when Conor moved up to lightweight,
13:10now they have each other in their eyesight.
13:13Conor McGregor, bold and brash.
13:16Khabib Nurmagomedov, reserved and deliberate.
13:20The two coming together was like, you know,
13:23one of those situations where people always want to root for good.
13:26Some go for evil.
13:27I'm just trouble for anyone.
13:28Don't give a about Conor.
13:30You had two of the biggest personalities
13:32and two of the best skilled motherfuckers in the game.
13:35I mean, inevitable to be chaotic.
13:39I want to fight for your chicken.
13:40I'm coming for that man to eat.
13:43Fighting is more than just the two people, man.
13:45This is a war.
13:55One of the first things that made Conor big
13:58was just that he was showing no respect to the champion of his division,
14:03Jose Aldo, who was, you know, just the scariest guy in the sport.
14:07By 2015, Jose Aldo has defended his UFC featherweight title seven consecutive times.
14:14Unfazed, Conor McGregor starts fighting the champ
14:16even before they enter the octagon at UFC 194.
14:21He was great at the art of war and antagonizing people
14:24and getting them all pissed off.
14:25That's what he did to Jose Aldo.
14:27Spoke his native tongue and told him he will die.
14:31I could see it in his eyes that he broke there and then.
14:33He got Jose Aldo so pissed off that Jose Aldo came in and rushed at him.
14:38Conor just picked him apart and knocked him up.
14:41Conor's display of knockout power, brash confidence, and magnetic charisma
14:46make him the UFC's breakout star.
14:49I'm just the best there is and that's it.
14:51That was similar to what made Muhammad Ali, you know,
14:54I'm the greatest, I'm the greatest.
14:55I am the greatest.
14:57Conor was the same way.
14:58Before anyone else thought he was the greatest, he was already saying it.
15:00Everyone dealt with me so I came in and said what I did when I went and done it.
15:05And you're like, all right, man, like, you know,
15:08this is a sport that will humble you big time.
15:11Then just backed it up, backed it up, backed it up.
15:16Despite struggling with some injuries,
15:18Khabib Nurmagomedov is proving unbeatable in the UFC's lightweight division,
15:22albeit without the Conor level of self-promotion.
15:26Conor's the one that, you know, is a superstar, he's a Muhammad Ali.
15:30Khabib is just a pawn in a chess game, I would say.
15:33Khabib didn't like to give interviews.
15:35He went about his business quietly.
15:37He doesn't bring any entertainment.
15:40More boring to watch than
15:41ice melt.
15:43Conor was a promoter's dream.
15:46I mean, this guy was funny.
15:48I'm dressed like El Chapo in his prime.
15:51He was clever.
15:52I'm climbing the money tree like a chimpanzee.
15:55And so, yes, the UFC recognized that.
15:57One thing about Dana, he sees opportunities.
16:01He jumps on them.
16:02So when Conor decides to move up to the lightweight division.
16:06I'm the money fight at all weight division.
16:08So f*** everybody else up here.
16:10The UFC is anxious to give him a shot at the title.
16:14Something they've denied Khabib,
16:15despite his impressive undefeated record in the division.
16:19I mean, he just beat everybody.
16:20He was like, I deserve this.
16:22I deserve the title.
16:23I'm 25, I'm undefeated all my career.
16:26For UFC 205,
16:28it looks to Khabib like he'll finally get his chance to fight for the title
16:31against the current champion, Eddie Alvarez.
16:35Khabib got dangled the carrot in front of him.
16:38The UFC kind of did a situation where they offered Eddie Alvarez to Khabib.
16:42Basically, Khabib thought he had a title fight.
16:45We thought we were preparing for a title fight.
16:47I was negotiating with the UFC downstairs.
16:49And he said, listen, I'm gonna go to sleep.
16:51Don't wake me up.
16:52When they send the contract, sign it.
16:54But while Khabib is off dreaming of an upcoming title fight,
16:57he'll awaken to news of a UFC double cross.
17:01The UFC wanted to go with Conor.
17:03Turns out we weren't preparing for no title fight.
17:07All along, they really wanted Eddie Alvarez to fight Conor McGregor.
17:11Right call, honestly.
17:12That's what the fan base wanted.
17:14That's what any business would have done.
17:15But Khabib didn't like it.
17:18Negotiations with Conor were getting harder
17:20because he had turned into such a giant superstar.
17:23He wasn't just asking for more.
17:24He was asking for much more than most guys do.
17:28So negotiations would go down to the wire.
17:30Did Khabib kind of get used in that situation?
17:32He certainly felt he did.
17:34Don't use my net.
17:35Don't send me bullshit contract.
17:37No more.
17:38Khabib was really, you know, upset
17:40because, you know, you promised him a title.
17:42You didn't give him a title.
17:44Upset enough to start playing the game Conor perfected.
17:48Be pissed off in public.
17:51Khabib's not really the kind of guy that you think about
17:52when you think about leaked contracts and explosive Twitter rants.
17:56He was adamant that it was not right.
17:58I deserve this.
17:59I have deserved this.
18:00Long before this guy blew up and Conor McGregor became Conor McGregor,
18:04the whole thing didn't make sense to him in his way of viewing the world,
18:07which is fair.
18:09Going into UFC 205, the focus is where Conor and the UFC want it,
18:14on Conor's main event fight for the lightweight championship against Eddie Alvarez.
18:19But also competing that night in an earlier bout is a clearly still embittered Khabib.
18:25He was beating up Michael Johnson.
18:27He's, like, calling for a title fight.
18:29When he was punching him in the face, cage slide.
18:34You know, telling Dana, give me my title fight.
18:38I mean, he's special, man.
18:43He's talking to Dana White.
18:44You know, I'm taking care of your boy.
18:46Don't protect your chicken.
18:47Dana White's saying,
18:48well, you got something to worry in front of you.
18:50Worry about that.
18:51He goes, oh, don't worry about that.
18:52I got that taking care of.
18:53I want to fight with your chicken,
18:55because this is number one in the lightweight division.
18:58I got a feeling if he doesn't get a title shot,
19:00I'm going to get my ass kicked.
19:03When Conor McGregor wins the lightweight belt,
19:08becoming the first fighter in UFC history
19:11to hold two titles simultaneously,
19:15the Conor-Habib stories converge.
19:18There was no collision course between Habib and Conor
19:21until Conor decided he wanted to be a double champ.
19:24That's where the little rivalry started.
19:27They met each other,
19:28and they started having words with each other.
19:30The war of words begins with Artem Lobov,
19:33a Russian-Irish MMA fighter
19:35and close friend of Conor's.
19:37And all the time Conor took this fight,
19:39he didn't even blinked his eyes.
19:41He came out and won.
19:42At the time when Habib was shot for six times,
19:45he was shot for a little bit,
19:47he was shot for a little bit,
19:47he was shot for a little bit,
19:48he was shot for a little bit,
19:48he was shot for a little bit.
19:50Who's here chicken?
19:53Who's here?
19:53Who's here?
19:54Artem said that Habib pulls out of fights all the time,
19:57and I really don't know what that's all about,
19:59because Habib really only pulled out of one fight.
20:01In that one fight there was a knee injury,
20:03during the training,
20:05and that knee injury lasted actually two fights.
20:07You can't fight if you can't,
20:08you know, you can't walk.
20:17Habib's simmering anger over being denied a title fight
20:20begins to boil.
20:22When instead of making Conor defend his lightweight belt,
20:25the UFC allows Conor to box Floyd Mayweather,
20:29the undefeated American legend.
20:30Conor loses, but still earns an estimated $100 million,
20:35while boosting his celebrity.
20:37He went from like pretty famous,
20:39to like globally famous,
20:41and rich rich, like yacht rich, you know?
20:44And that all happens in like two years.
20:46The UFC gets to expose one of its champions
20:49to a massive worldwide audience.
20:52Conor McGregor is like one of the biggest stars
20:54in all of sports on earth.
20:56Meanwhile, the still undefeated Habib waits.
20:59Conor hasn't stepped in the octagon
21:01since beating Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205.
21:04After more than a year of UFC inactivity,
21:07Conor McGregor is stripped of the lightweight title.
21:11As fighters converge on Brooklyn, New York for UFC 223,
21:16Habib is finally going to get his shot at the lightweight belt.
21:20When there's a UFC fight week, everybody flies into the same hotel.
21:23It basically takes over the entire hotel.
21:25You've got their fighters,
21:27but then you've got all of their training partners,
21:29managers, coaches.
21:31So all these people are around each other.
21:33Including Artem Lobov,
21:35Conor's friend who ridiculed Habib
21:37for complaining Conor got the title shot Habib deserved.
21:41Khabib saw Artem, right?
21:44Khabib, like, was with all his crew.
21:51They cornered him and were slapping him
21:54and making him apologize.
22:13Following the incident, Conor is uncharacteristically quiet,
22:18but none of his friends expect the Irishman
22:20to let the confrontation with one of his friends go unpunished.
22:24It's just a question of when and how he responds.
22:28I think he went on his emotion.
22:30One of his close teammates getting attacked
22:32and a guy that attacked him was speaking illy about his name,
22:36saying he wants to fight him.
22:38I was in Ireland for one of my fights in the middle of the night,
22:41and I got a message from him.
22:44Can you tell us what the text said?
22:46I can't do it. You've got to ask him.
22:48If he wants to share that, that's up to him.
22:51They did what they did, and they had the answer for it.
22:54How's the gangsters do it?
22:56You know, when one steps on your turf,
22:58you get your boys, and you come try to correct the situation.
23:03Two mob wars, man.
23:04He put everything on the line in a moment of pure insanity.
23:16UFC 223 is the craziest week in UFC history.
23:20The craziest week of my career.
23:22Habib was finally fighting for a championship.
23:24Two days before UFC 223, where Habib Nurmagomedov
23:29is set to fight for the lightweight title left vacated by Conor McGregor,
23:33the fighters on the card gather for what should be a routine media day.
23:38Finished with the media.
23:41We're sitting on the bus.
23:44We had just started backing up, and it was like, beep, beep, beep, beep.
23:49And then people are banging on the window.
23:52Split second, I'm like, fans?
23:54I was like, how did fans get down here?
23:56I thought it was just some idiot.
23:58I was probably on a whole bunch of drugs and drinking.
24:01And then it was, like, aggressive.
24:07That's too aggressive to be fans.
24:08Are they running somebody over?
24:10And then something just comes flying through the window.
24:14What the ?
24:15The window just explodes.
24:18And glass is just...
24:19Everyone's screaming.
24:20Everyone's freaking out.
24:22I thought it was a terrorist attack.
24:25I thought we really got to die on that bus.
24:27What the ?
24:30Michael Chiesa got cut.
24:32Reed Harris was like, who is that?
24:34What's going on?
24:36What the is wrong with him?
24:38And then I see Connor run around going nuts.
24:41He's, like, flailing and freaking throwing shit.
24:43And it was just mad.
24:44What are you ?
24:45Come on, me out.
24:47Khabib's right behind me.
24:48And they were, like, face-to-face at the bus.
24:53There was no need for that even to happen.
24:57Khabib should have just got out of the bus.
24:58But he didn't want to get out of the bus.
25:01When you have little kids throwing stuff at you,
25:04a real man doesn't get faced by a bunch of clowns.
25:06How do we get dirty guys with him?
25:08The bus was locked.
25:09And Aliyah Latifi hold me.
25:11Open the door.
25:12No.
25:13No.
25:13I was wearing a blue sweater.
25:15And I tried to get out of the bus.
25:16He wouldn't let me get out of the bus.
25:18Smash the windows.
25:22UFC security made it pretty clear
25:23that no one was getting off that bus.
25:25We're gonna kill these guys.
25:27There's no doubt in my mind,
25:29if the security wasn't there,
25:30I think Khabib and that whole crew,
25:32they were going to war right there.
25:36They got those guys out of there with Conor
25:38and he kind of ran away.
25:42Al Iaquinta says,
25:43they thought it was like a terrorist act.
25:45It was.
25:45It was a terrorist act.
25:47Why you need to come here?
25:48Just send me a message.
25:49Let me know where and that's it.
25:51I had finished my interviews and I had left.
25:53I was gonna meet somebody for lunch.
25:56I literally had just sat down,
25:58ordered food,
25:59and I saw some things on Twitter.
26:01I was like,
26:02oh, shit.
26:03Conor McGregor flew over in a jet
26:05to attack Khabib
26:06and he threw a dolly at the bus.
26:07There was a warrant out for Conor McGregor's arrest.
26:10He's out in the loose in New York City,
26:11in Brooklyn, you know what I mean?
26:13Like, it's kind of like a fugitive in the city.
26:1624 hours after the incident,
26:18Conor turns himself into the police.
26:21McGregor charged with three counts of assault.
26:23One count of criminal mischief.
26:25That week turned into Conor McGregor
26:28walking into a courthouse with a suit on,
26:30more so than it became about Khabib
26:32becoming a UFC lightweight champion.
26:34This is a title fight
26:35that's moving the lens away from him a little bit.
26:37So I think he saw it as an opportunity
26:39to be the grand stage again.
26:42Conor takes a plea bargain,
26:44resulting in five days of community service.
26:47As for the UFC...
26:49We're disgusted with him right now.
26:51completely disgusted.
26:54That so-called disgust
26:56fails to lead to a suspension
26:58or even a fine for Conor.
27:00I feel what happened in the bus,
27:03he didn't pay for it correctly.
27:04He hurt a lot of people on the bus,
27:06but Conor is good for promotion.
27:08He bring the UFC a lot of money.
27:10Despite rumors that UFC 223 will be canceled,
27:13thus denying Khabib yet another shot at the belt,
27:17the show does go on,
27:18with Khabib facing ally Aquinta
27:20for the vacant lightweight title.
27:22What the hell is going on, New York?
27:25I remember this week too,
27:26that was the bus accident.
27:28This is true and all this.
27:30Most fighters would have pulled out.
27:31It throw you off your game a little bit.
27:33I'll tell you something,
27:35Khabib faced and that changed one bit.
27:40He becomes the lightweight,
27:42the UFC champion of the world.
27:44The legacy was created.
27:45The first Dagestani to win a UFC world title,
27:48you know, was Khabib Nurmagomedov.
27:49And of course,
27:50he made his father very proud,
27:51made us all very proud.
27:54Never one to waste a violent,
27:56headline-grabbing controversy,
27:58Dana White knows a future lightweight title fight
28:00between the UFC's current champion Khabib
28:02and former title holder Conor
28:04is a money-making sure thing.
28:07Khabib does his part in fueling the feud.
28:10We're gonna fix
28:11between me and him problem,
28:14inside the cage or outside the cage,
28:15doesn't matter.
28:17Dana does the rest.
28:19October, Las Vegas.
28:21It's on, ladies and gentlemen.
28:22Now that Khabib has the belt,
28:24the next thing they did was
28:26that they put Mance Conor with him.
28:28Biggest fight in the history of the UFC.
28:30He never fights with someone like me.
28:32Dana White is the most brilliant promoter
28:35of all the time.
28:36And I know as a promoter,
28:37it would be madness if this fight
28:39not happening.
28:40It had to happen.
28:41It's become personal.
28:43Did you think at that point,
28:44it's like game on?
28:45100%.
28:47UFC 229 is scheduled for October 6th, 2018,
28:51with the Conor McGregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov
28:54lightweight title fight as the main event.
28:57There was no fans at the press conference,
28:58just in case something happened.
29:00So we had to watch on a TV screen
29:02in the same arena.
29:03They wouldn't let us be close to each other.
29:04The teams could have been super, super bad.
29:08Who wins the pre-fight war of words
29:10depends on which fighter supporter is talking.
29:14I am going to truly, truly love
29:17putting a bad, bad beating
29:19on this little glass jar rat.
29:22No matter what Conor tried,
29:24Khabib was very calm.
29:25He was very focused.
29:26Happy birthday joining the bus.
29:28Why don't you drink?
29:29Why don't you drink?
29:31I'll tell you some booze at parties.
29:32You mad backwards .
29:34Conor goes, have a shot of whiskey.
29:36He knows Khabib doesn't drink.
29:38I thought he was going to do the whiskey on him.
29:40We're going to fight.
29:41We're going to fight 6th October.
29:43See it.
29:43See it.
29:44He would do all kinds of things
29:45that they would antagonize Khabib
29:47to get him pissed off.
29:48But none of it worked.
29:50My, my, my, my, my, my.
29:51You think whiskey going to help him?
29:53I don't understand.
29:55Conor was getting on his skin so bad.
29:57I finally got to see him face to face.
29:59Do, you know, stare down.
30:01And I thought something was going to go down.
30:03Don't come at that kid.
30:05He would always say,
30:06there's three ways you can beat a person.
30:07Mentally, physically, and spiritually.
30:10So I learned how he would get in people's heads
30:13before the fight even started
30:15and then make them make mistakes.
30:17Dylan Dennis was Conor McGregor's jiu-jitsu coach.
30:21He's a, he's a world-class jiu-jitsu practitioner.
30:24And he was great at pushing buttons.
30:26I posted a picture of Khabib drinking a whiskey,
30:29a prop patrol whiskey bottle.
30:31Just to, you know, get under his skin.
30:33He's a loud mouth.
30:35They can't fight.
30:36They can't do anything.
30:37So he's going to, he's going to say things
30:39that shouldn't be said.
30:41He's a scared little pussy.
30:44That's what pussies do.
30:45They're on their mouth.
30:46His manager is a snitch terrorist rat.
30:50He can say whatever he want.
30:52When alcoholic someone drunk guy talk,
30:54nobody cares about him.
30:56And when we go to the cage,
30:57we will see who gonna talk.
30:58Conor attacked religion.
31:00He attacked country.
31:01You know, he attacked the family.
31:02He attacked his wife.
31:03He called his wife a towhead.
31:04He called his father a rat.
31:06What is a family?
31:07What is a wife?
31:08Nothing to do with it.
31:09It really kind of was almost just like a declaration
31:11of like, there is no line.
31:13The line doesn't exist.
31:20That fight was marked for destiny.
31:23I really want this guy.
31:25Make him humble.
31:26You know, not only smash, like change his face.
31:29The UFC lightweight title is on the line.
31:32But both men are fighting for more than just a belt.
31:35It's now personal.
31:39A blood feud that won't be contained inside the eight sided cage.
31:44I'm gonna smash your boy, guys.
31:46This is what fighting was made for.
31:48You know what I mean?
31:48This is like some back in the day,
31:50Coliseum gladiator versus gladiator.
31:54I plan on knocking that man's nose straight into the nose, please.
31:59You will never be the Irish.
32:01Blood was spilled and it's gonna stay that way.
32:11This is the most important fight in the history of the lightweight division.
32:14UFC 229 was a fight that I wanted so bad.
32:18It's the fight everybody wanted so bad.
32:21On October 6th, 2018,
32:2420,000 fans pack a sold out arena in Las Vegas for UFC 229.
32:30Millions more tune in worldwide.
32:31The crowd is hostile, unevenly split in loyalty to the two fighters.
32:37So many Conor fans, it was pandemonium.
32:41It was crazy.
32:42The energy was unreal.
32:43The hate for us was unreal.
32:45We had so many people against us.
32:47It was very hostile.
32:49There was a guy that tried to bring a gun into the arena that got stopped.
32:52On fight day, he wasn't as relaxed.
32:55Conor had dug deep and he had disrespected his family, his father.
32:59Those boys don't take it lightly.
33:01Habib's father was not there because I believe he was having complications with the visa.
33:06But Habib's father was talking to him every day.
33:09He was with him every step of the way.
33:10And if there was a problem, he would fix it.
33:13Dana White had increased the security because of the rivalry.
33:17When everybody was aware of it, that it could brew into something.
33:20Habib Nurmagomedov steps in fighting for the principles he's lived by since childhood.
33:26Conor McGregor steps in for fame and fortune.
33:29Their rivalry is about to be settled in the cage.
33:33Habib was looked at as completely unbeatable.
33:35But no one had a better puncher's chance than Conor.
33:39His timing was perfect.
33:40Like, that's how his whole career had been.
33:42So you're like, if anybody's gonna land that perfect shot on Habib Nurmagomedov,
33:47it's definitely Conor McGregor.
33:50Touch gloves now if you wish.
33:52I said, you can touch gloves at this time if you wish.
33:54Which they both chose not to.
33:56That means that, yeah, that this fight is personal.
33:59The game plans are clear.
34:01Pressure right off the bat by Conor.
34:02Conor looks to a stand-up fight, trading punches and kicks.
34:06While Habib wants to take the fight to the ground, where his wrestling gives him the advantage.
34:11First round, Habib took Conor down.
34:14He's got his feet tied up well. Look out.
34:16And controlled him for the majority of the round.
34:18What Conor's doing is he's trying to dig underhooks and stay in a ball so there's no hooks.
34:22But Conor played really good defense.
34:24He couldn't get up, but he was controlling himself.
34:27Staying very calm so he doesn't waste his energy.
34:29He was still fresh.
34:30Habib wasn't able to unleash on him.
34:32The second round, Habib, that was a double fade.
34:40Hit Conor in the chin, dropped him, and then jumped on Conor.
34:45Let's talk now.
34:46Started doing a lot of damage to him, a lot of damage.
34:49Habib is trying to smash his face.
34:52How many shots can one man take?
34:54He got on top of him and he started to get very, very confident in his ability.
35:01We're coming into the third round.
35:03Habib had such a great time with him on the second round.
35:06He decided that he wanted to stand with him.
35:09But I'm screaming at him, go back to taking him down, take him down, take him down.
35:13Nope, not taking him down.
35:15He's standing with him just to prove a point that I could strike with the best strikers.
35:21Dylan Danis definitely was trash talking.
35:24I wasn't paying too much attention because my main focus was in the cage, not what was going outside.
35:29But I definitely heard Dylan say all kinds of things.
35:32Khabib and his team are mentally weak.
35:34It was a lot easier to get under their skin and get their minds all flustered and, you know, pissed
35:40off.
35:48We won the third round and we were getting some momentum going.
35:51We won the fourth and fifth, he could win the fight.
35:53Kyle looks very good coming out for this fourth round.
35:55That round was too darn close for me.
35:57And I said to Habib, okay, can you please go back to taking him down?
36:00He goes, okay, coach.
36:02He was in control, even losing the third round.
36:05You could feel like how he was just sucking the energy away from him.
36:09Tremendous control on the ground.
36:11Pure confidence.
36:13Trained to the T's, man. I mean, like every detail.
36:16I was watching from the TV in the locker room.
36:19I was just mentally, I wanted to focus on him winning.
36:22There's the choke.
36:23When I saw that choke go in, I thought his head's gonna be crushed or maybe his jaw's gonna be
36:28injured.
36:28I was pretty certain that that could be a fight-pinishing choke.
36:33There's the choke!
36:35Khabib Nurmagomedov defeats Conor McGregor, submitting him in the fourth round.
36:39To claim the undisputed lightweight title.
36:45I remember the fight was over.
36:48I put my head down.
36:49I was obviously very sad because it's one of my closest friends.
36:52I just lost the biggest fight.
36:54He points at me.
36:55He throws him outpiece or he spits or he does both.
36:57I don't know.
36:58Look at him.
36:59Look at him screaming at the corner.
37:00And then he's saying something and I'm like, come here, you.
37:03Like, you know what I mean?
37:03Like, you wanna talk shit?
37:04And just be my boy.
37:06We were all so happy.
37:08I was so elated.
37:09I'm like, oh, it's over.
37:10We won.
37:11I'm high-fiving all my friends.
37:13High-five, high-five.
37:14And all of a sudden I hear this, whoa.
37:15I turn around.
37:17Khabib jumps the cage.
37:18I think I tried to chase him.
37:20Tried to see if I could keep him from going out.
37:22But he was too fast.
37:24The full commitment.
37:25I mean, it was a full jump.
37:27Legs in the air.
37:28Like, I'm getting to you.
37:30He's going right at Dylan Dennis.
37:32I didn't think he was gonna jump.
37:32It was quick.
37:33I just had to be like, okay, don't get hit in the face.
37:35Because at the time, I just kind of started MMA.
37:37My striking was the best.
37:38I was like, alright, I'm gonna have to strike with this guy.
37:44He went at it.
37:45The next thing you know, the whole place goes crazy.
37:48Everybody's fighting.
37:50There's a bit of a melee.
37:51And, you know, different guys are coming in.
37:52You don't know who's who or what's happening.
37:55Conor hits Abu Bakr.
37:57Khabib's cousin was on top of the cage.
37:59Conor gives Abu Bakr a black eye.
38:01It was crazy.
38:03All hell is broken loose!
38:05I ran to the cage.
38:06And the police grabbed me.
38:08And they grabbed Khabib.
38:09And then I said, hey, please get him under control.
38:11There's a crazy picture of the police holding me.
38:14And I was holding Khabib.
38:16Bruce Buffer comes in.
38:18And he's going to announce the winner.
38:20But he does not put the belt on him.
38:22If I put this belt on you,
38:24everybody's gonna start throwing shit into the octagon.
38:27They're throwing cubs at us, beer at us.
38:29They were booing us, calling us all kinds of names.
38:32We're going back to Ali's house.
38:33The bus comes for us to take us.
38:36The bus driver says, hey, somebody's following us.
38:38Ali says, what?
38:39Lose him, brother. Lose him.
38:41So the bus driver's going crazy around the streets,
38:43trying to lose him, this and that.
38:45And I'm going, how do those guys have guns?
38:48What if they have guns?
38:49They're going to come after a bus.
38:50Ali says, stop.
38:51Stop the bus.
38:52I'm going, Ali, don't go out there.
38:55Whatever's going to happen is going to happen.
38:56If you die, you die.
39:04I'm not saying I'm a tough guy or anything like that.
39:06It's just, we see all these crazy things happening.
39:11They were just pure emotion.
39:16Ali comes back and I go, what the hell happened?
39:18He goes, oh, there were a bunch of fans that were just following us.
39:21And I go, bunch of fans?
39:22He goes, yeah, there were a bunch of Irish guys.
39:25So I tell him, get the hell out of here.
39:27Habib says, coach, I'm really sorry.
39:30And I said, don't worry, don't worry.
39:32I go, something good's going to come out of this.
39:34I just try to calm him down, you know, really think that we were done.
39:38And all of a sudden, Habib comes back.
39:41He says, coach, Putin called me.
39:43He said, congratulations on defending your title.
39:46Congratulations defending your country.
39:48And thank your coaches for us.
39:50Well, at least that part's good.
39:51I want to say sorry.
39:53I know this is not my best side.
39:55After UFC 229, Habib is suspended nine months and fined $500,000.
40:02I know my father is going to smash when I go home.
40:05Conor gets six months and $50,000.
40:08Dylan Danis is fined $7,500.
40:12I didn't realize that Habib still had that anger.
40:15And he held that anger to the very end.
40:17He was composed to the very end.
40:19And then he let it go.
40:20Habib was upset.
40:21This guy talk about his father.
40:23Only person Habib would listen to there was his father.
40:26Not me, not Dana, nobody was his father.
40:28And Habib would never break his father's word.
40:30You know, I believe in my heart that if Habib's father was in the corner with us, I believe that
40:37none of this would have happened because Habib's father was always guiding him, always there for him.
40:41On July 3rd, 2020, Habib's father, Abdulmanap Naragimenov, dies.
40:47And a few months later, Habib retires from the sport with a 29-0 record.
40:53My mother, she don't want to go fight without father, but I promise her, it's going to be my last
40:59fight.
41:00Habib's story is wild, like, start to finish.
41:04He went on this journey with his father and his father's directive for their life.
41:09Train, you know, pray, and then compete.
41:13Be the best physical and mental version of yourself at all times.
41:17And the second his father passed away, that that journey was, like, over for him in his heart.
41:22This doesn't exist if it's not with my father, you know.
41:26But he's still coaching his guys because he realized that they need him.
41:31They need his father.
41:34I think Habib was broken. I think that's why he retired.
41:36They offered him, I think, 50 million to fight Conor again.
41:39He's a pussy, you know. He should have done the rematch.
41:42I mean, that was the biggest payday of his life.
41:44Conor made him famous. He made him popular.
41:47He gave him a career. He gave him a gym. He gave him everything that he wanted.
41:50To make a medal.
41:51Where's he now? He's retired.
41:52He's gone. Shit, his jocks came fighting. He's riding all.
41:55He done nothing in the sport. F*** all he done in the sport.
41:59My honest opinion on the hatred that comes from Conor and his team,
42:02is because they can't beat him.
42:04But Conor changed the sport.
42:06Like, Habib is massive.
42:08It's hard to put into words just like how crazy big Habib is,
42:12the followers, like the love that people have for him,
42:15like all around the world.
42:16But he did not change the UFC.
42:19The UFC is worth what it is today.
42:22That number is significantly different if Conor McGregor does not exist.
42:26You do got to give him that respect.
42:30Habib's camp, Islam now is the new Habib.
42:32So Islam goes at me a lot.
42:34We're in the same weight class.
42:35I always wanted to fight him.
42:37But yeah, you know, they always take shots at me.
42:38Islam always be sending me DMs.
42:41Ali always is tweeting at me.
42:42All their team, always talking shit.
42:44The rivalry between, you know, Conor's side and Team Habib,
42:49there's still sometimes it flares up here and there.
42:52Just recently, there was a flare up with Dylan Dennis and Team Habib
42:56because Dylan, he was pushing the buttons big time.
42:59On November 15th, 2025 at UFC 322 in Madison Square Garden,
43:05seven years after the chaos of UFC 229,
43:09a cage side brawl breaks out involving Dylan Dennis
43:11and several of Habib Nurmagomedov's longtime teammates and training partners.
43:17You will never see Dylan Dennis at a UFC fight ever again.
43:21Dennis is permanently banned from attending future UFC events by Dana White.
43:26I think this is an ongoing feud with these guys
43:29and I don't think it's ever going to end.
43:32So I think there will be multiple parts of this documentary.
43:35It was the biggest rivalry in the whole sport.
43:37My opinion, because it was real.
43:39It was nothing fake about it.
43:41I believe there's two meat in the one room now.
43:43It will be a fight.
43:44Still?
43:46100%.
43:46Not 50%, it's 100%.
43:56Uno, two.
43:57No.
43:57You can not go to the internet.
43:58You can not go to the floor.
