00:00We're talking about Dylan Gabriel, the Browns opening up his 21-day practice window.
00:04By the end of that 21 days, they will be making an announcement, obviously, on whether he stays on IR,
00:12whether he comes off IR, and then what corresponding move would come from that.
00:17And again, like my take was and has been, while Talon Green goes either to the practice squad or IL,
00:24and then Dylan becomes your third quarterback, I understand.
00:30The idea that when you have a backup come in, the job is to steady the waters and not screw
00:36it up.
00:37The job is not necessarily for some teams to win the game.
00:41I want the quarterback that is going to be backing him up to give him a chance to win, not
00:47to not lose the game.
00:48And I think that's where I will be upset if at some point in the next three weeks,
00:52Dylan becomes the backup and Shador becomes QB3.
00:55Yeah, a couple things on this, right?
00:56I feel like people have just forgotten games that Dylan Gabriel screwed up, you know, like the Patriots game, for
01:02instance.
01:03There's all sorts of plays that you go back and watch.
01:05Look at that play where he's backed up in the end zone.
01:07One of the worst plays you'll ever see.
01:09And I'm not saying Shador didn't have that, but people act as if it'd be a flawless operation with Dylan
01:14Gabriel,
01:14and that's why you have to put him in.
01:15Guys, to me, it's simple.
01:16Better is better.
01:19A first-class seat is always going to be better than a coach seat.
01:22There's no 45-minute flight, five-hour flight.
01:25It's never going to be a situation where I wouldn't take the first-class seat.
01:29Better is better.
01:30Shador is better than Dylan Gabriel.
01:32You play Shador, whether that is because you need a quarter or whether you need five games, better is better.
01:38Yeah, and you can't tell me, all right, we're going to start Deshaun because Deshaun gives you the best chance
01:43to win,
01:44and then go, well, Dylan gives me the best chance not to lose, even if Shador gives me the best
01:49chance to win.
01:49Does that make sense?
01:50Yeah, it sounds a little – I just don't agree with it.
01:53Now, where I think Albert is maybe making the case is I feel like Albert just thinks differently about Dylan
01:57Gabriel than we do,
01:58or at least Dylan Gabriel versus Shador Sanders.
02:00And so, like, if you legitimately think it's a toss-up between the two, then, yeah, maybe you'd think, all
02:06right,
02:06operationally or the supercomputer is ahead because in a certain moment with one quarter, maybe that's all you need,
02:13but it'd have to be a true toss-up.
02:14To me and you, it's not a toss-up.
02:15Also, what I think is interesting is if the Browns were that comfortable with Dylan in a short pinch situation,
02:22why did he go on the IL with a make-believe injury?
02:26If you were so – again, with a quarterback you didn't know could stay healthy for the first four weeks
02:32of the season,
02:33let alone play well enough to go into October here.
02:36But if, like, you weren't certain that Deshaun was going to be able to stay healthy in those first four
02:41weeks,
02:41wouldn't you have wanted Dylan there as your break glass in case of emergency?
02:45Seems like they would have already tipped their hand that way, right?
02:48I just – there's something fishy here.
02:50And I know a lot of people point to Ken and Anthony's comment that I think it was like six
02:56weeks ago
02:56the Browns looked operationally that Dylan Gabriel was ahead of Shador Sanders.
03:02And a lot of people are putting stock into what the Browns thought about those two quarterbacks operationally six weeks
03:08ago.
03:09Has Shador Sanders had an opportunity to get better at calling this offense?
03:14Or is he not?
03:15Like, this idea that I'm relying on a report of something that they heard six weeks ago,
03:22yeah, I'm not putting a lot of stock into that.
03:24Nor am I – even Albert's idea of, well, who played better in the postseason – or the preseason.
03:29Dylan Gabriel was playing up against guys who I think are lifeguards right now.
03:35They're like loader operators on a dock somewhere.
03:39And he did it, by the way, in the least important preseason game.
03:44Shador – it was Shador versus Deshaun.
03:45I feel like there's a bait and switch that certain people are trying to go on.
03:49And maybe that's informed by the Browns.
03:51But I just – I don't understand this idea of, well, you feel better with Dylan as the backup,
03:56even if you feel better with Shador as a long-term starter.
03:59That feels like some sort of gamesmanship that I just can't abide.
04:02That race you're talking about between Deshaun and Shador came down – that came down to the wire.
04:06Here, I'm going to give Tage Seth Sumer Analytics credit for this.
04:09Old Tage Seth.
04:09Well, if it came from me, people would be like, Jonathan, what are you doing here?
04:12So I'm going to just front row him.
04:14Is he in Daniel Dopey?
04:15Who's the ESPN – Dan Jopp?
04:18No, Tage is the guy we've had on.
04:19I used to have him on the night show.
04:20I actually really like him.
04:21I think he's really nice.
04:22He's one of those really nice people and really great.
04:25I could break him.
04:25Really, really incredibly smart.
04:27Like way too smart to be doing this type of stuff.
04:29I could make him an emotional boy very quickly.
04:31He's going to be in an NFL front office in like three years.
04:34Not until I have him on air and just really bait him into rage, you know.
04:38Well, but on that idea that it was like neck and neck and it was close.
04:40He goes, if Shador Sanders took this version of Deshaun Watson deep into a quarterback battle,
04:45then how good is Shador?
04:46Yeah.
04:47I can't like – I mean, I know like if I said that, people would be like,
04:50Jonathan, you're just being a guy that loves Shador right now.
04:53It's kind of ridiculous.
04:54But there is at the heart of that, if he was able to take Deshaun as deep as he did
04:57into this,
04:58and you see what Deshaun is doing.
04:59Deshaun right now is the eighth best quarterback in the NFL according to pass rating,
05:03and Munkin could clearly do a lot.
05:04That's a real competition.
05:06That one went deeper than it was supposed to go.
05:09Yeah.
05:10There was a reason why Dylan wasn't involved in that.
05:12I just – the backup quarterback, it's just been two days.
05:18We didn't talk any backup quarterback last week, by the way.
05:21Is it because I was on the cabin?
05:23Your cabin trip was reprieved of any backup quarterback conversation.
05:27I don't think Shador got mentioned all week.
05:28They're three and one.
05:29We're trying to make up ways in which Dylan Gabriel has leapfrogged Shador Sanders.
05:34And it just – if this is what the Browns are thinking, it's going to feel like
05:37either they don't want to tell us what's really going on with Shador,
05:40which has felt like a fair amount of the conversation, certainly last year,
05:44where there was a bunch of hocus-pocus surrounding Shador and what he can and can't do
05:49and throwing the ball boys and stuff,
05:51or they just really want to try and just silence the Shador doubters.
05:56And I just refuse to believe that this organization, who spent all offseason
06:02telling people we think we can compete this year or be competitive this year,
06:06we're going to start Deshaun because we think Deshaun gives us the best chance to win,
06:11that we're going to pivot to the guy who wasn't a part of the quarterback conversation at all.
06:17It was Deshaun versus Shador, and then it was Dylan versus Talon.
06:23That's what the quarterback competitions were, and it just – it would feel like a massive bait-and-switch.
06:29And again –
06:30Well, how did he make up ground, this mythical ground that he made up?
06:32How would he have possibly made up this ground?
06:34He's not even doing – he's not even practicing with the team for the four weeks.
06:36Before he got hurt, he toasted a bunch of current truck drivers.
06:41Yeah, like, again, something he did in the previous preseason, too.
06:44And, listen, I thought Dylan had decent moments in training camp.
06:49I'm not going to sit here and say I didn't think that he got better in training camp
06:52and got better than what we saw last year.
06:54I thought he did.
06:55I thought he looked much better.
06:56But it wasn't enough to overcome this or really make up any of this.
06:59But, again, the reason why, if you're listening, the reason why this all matters
07:01is because when Deshaun Watson is your quarterback, the backup quarterback is a major deal.
07:06Or your starting quarterback is Deshaun Watson.
07:08The backup quarterback is a major deal because you never know when he's going to get injured.
07:11So these type of conversations, that's frustrating.
07:14I can tell you.
07:14You're, like, rubbing your head.
07:16Yeah, that's literally giving me a headache.
07:17It's pissed me off.
07:18I'm about to offer you, like, an Advil or something or a Tylenol.
07:19Like, I love Albert, and I know that he's one of the most well-sourced guys.
07:23So it's about the idea Albert is espousing where we've done some sort of vanishing act
07:29on what actually happened.
07:30I mean, even somebody on Twitter earlier was like, well, Shador only played last year
07:35because the first two quarterbacks were injured.
07:36It's like, no, Joe Flacco got benched, then traded,
07:40and then Dylan Gabriel got benched.
07:42I don't know what kind of, like, magic.
07:44Listen, I think Shador fans do it too, but Shador haters do this narrative shift
07:50in the silence of the night in a way that I just, like, what Lima said the other day,
07:55we can't have a balanced conversation about Deshaun.
07:58That is true for some people.
08:00We cannot have a balanced conversation about Shador Sanders in a way that isn't, again,
08:04giving me a massive migraine at the end of this show.
08:06But again, we have no, at least with Deshaun, we get, like, new information.
08:09We have games.
08:10We have things we can talk about that are developing.
08:12We, there's nothing new to develop out of Dylan or Shador.
08:15The case has been closed for a month, Nick.
08:17Again, and Dylan wasn't even practicing in this stretch.
08:19By the way, Kevin on Twitter saying, Dylan is better, period.
08:23You have nothing to support your case.
08:26You have nothing.
08:27He didn't play better last year.
08:29The Browns won more games with Shador at the end of the season after the season was
08:32basically lost, and it looked like they were tanking.
08:35Dylan's numbers weren't wildly better than Shador.
08:38Dylan was not a part of the quarterback battle.
08:41I do not, I, I don't get hating Shador Sanders when the Browns are three and one.
08:48Am I taking heroin?
08:50That was not the great joke.
08:51Am I taking, am I on drugs?
08:53Has somebody slipped me a Mickey?
08:55What is going on?
08:56What is going on with you people out there who the Browns are three and one, then you
09:02want to make up some mythical backup quarterback thing?
09:05Seriously.
09:06Did you do it?
09:07I didn't do it.
09:07Did the Shadorians do it?
09:09I didn't do it.
09:09Did the anti-Shador people do it?
09:11No, no, no, no.
09:12Daryl, Daryl and Nick Padella, they started this.
09:14Oh my God.
09:14Get on them if you want to get on people.
09:16Good God.
09:17The Browns are three and freaking one, and we're creating a backup quarterback controversy?
09:22I think people knew you had the week off last week, and they just wanted to get back at you.
09:26I want to go full, full metal jacket on this.
09:28I want to fill the nicest suitcase in Cleveland full of bricks of soap and just start swinging
09:34it on people, but not Albert.
09:36It was a great guest as always.
09:38Why are you going to swing bricks of soap at people?
09:41What was that?
09:42Have you watched Full Metal Jacket?
09:44Why would you do that?
09:45Because we're creating something that doesn't exist while the Browns are three and one.
09:51Are you hitting Albert with the bricks?
09:52Who are you hitting with these bricks?
09:54I'd probably start with Daryl, just for fun.
09:56Nah, I'm kidding.
09:58The point is, I'd be swinging a lot of people on social media as well.
10:02I mean, was it Cody earlier with the Shador video?
10:05Like, guys, I want him off my team.
10:08Wait six months.
10:11I just, like, can we keep the main thing?
10:14You're making me turn Stefanski, and that's what will piss me off more than anything.
10:18Do people just not want to talk about Deshaun?
10:19Is that how we got here?
10:20I want to know how we got here, is the question.
10:23I just, I'm flabbergasted.
10:25I really am.
10:26You don't really talk backup quarterbacks this way on basically, I don't know, like 28 other teams?
10:33Are we like that?
10:33There are teams that you do talk backup quarterback.
10:35And as established, with Deshaun, you have to talk about the backup quarterback.
10:38Did you see the, what's that, Uprox guy or some alleged Browns fan who wrote this big,
10:44puffed-out chess piece?
10:45Oh, the Browns are three and one, but I can't enjoy it.
10:48And, all right, dude, can you not enjoy it in silence?
10:52Seriously.
10:53Like, I'm sorry.
10:55I, I've, I've lived my entire adult life.
10:57I have every complicated feeling about Deshaun Watson that you do.
11:00And I have learned as an adult, maybe it's my trauma.
11:03I've learned to compartmentalize her thing or two.
11:06All right.
11:06I can keep my feelings on the Deshaun experience over here and look at three and one and go,
11:11Hey, this is fun.
11:12You know what I thought that entire Thursday night game?
11:14I wonder, I wonder who's the backup.
11:17That's what I thought.
11:18Okay.
11:19This is a good game here, but who's the backup?
11:22What's Taylor and Green doing?
11:23Should we put Taylor and Green in?
11:25I can't take any of it serious.
11:26No, seriously.
11:27I can't take any of it serious.
11:27You know, that Panthers game, the whole time I wasn't thinking about winning the game
11:31or enjoying winning the game.
11:33No, I was thinking, tell me about Dylan Gabriel.
11:36What impression are you doing?
11:37Please, God, tell me about Dylan Gabriel.
11:39Is he better than Shador?
11:40Oh, my God.
11:42You're in a fever dream right now?
11:43Am I in a fever dream right now?
11:44I'm just...
11:46Am I not...
11:47Is this real?
11:47You play to win the game!
11:51They've won the games!
11:52They've won three straight games!
11:55My God almighty!
11:58Browns are three and one.
11:59You decided to come back from the break with this clip.
12:02You're, I mean...
12:02Well, no, it's just the whole thing.
12:04You're blaming the arsonist for trying to put out the fire here.
12:05It's the whole thing.
12:07What do you mean?
12:07Why are we doing this?
12:09You've decided to do them each time we do them.
12:11You don't have to do this to yourself.
12:12Yeah, no, because this is the conversation.
12:13Talk about something else.
12:14Our job isn't to talk about what I want to talk about.
12:16That's true.
12:16Our job is to talk about the conversation that our fans are having, that the audience is
12:20having, and I don't get it.
12:22I just don't.
12:23If they were two and two, maybe I could sniff a little glue and have this conversation.
12:27Yeah, but you're like the meme with the guy from How I Met Your Mother.
12:31How do we find this guy?
12:33I don't know.
12:34I don't know, Nick.
12:35I don't know.
12:35Oh, my God.
12:36Who's the guilty party here?
12:37I don't know.
