00:00The congress is going very well, we have over 1,100 registered participants, over 30% of them are very young people.
00:07young people, so this is something that makes us proud.
00:12Why a forensic genetics session? Because I think it's now clear to everyone how much DNA, analysis
00:19genetic, are today fundamental as a support for justice.
00:24And so we wanted to invite, and we are honoured to have them, all those who are the institutions, the bodies and the
00:32institutions that somehow find themselves collaborating in this area.
00:38We have therefore invited representatives of the Privacy Guarantor, of the National Committee of Biotechnology, Biosafety and Life Sciences, the
00:49Scientific Police, the Carabinieri, the RIS,
00:51the State Police with the National DNA Database and the Central Laboratory for the National Bank and
01:00GEFI, which is one of the associations of forensic geneticists that often collaborates with us at SIGU.
01:09From 2025 to 2026, within the working group that deals specifically with forensic genetics, we moved on
01:18from about 40 members to about 130.
01:21I think this is a fact that shows what the interest of young people is, because many of them are
01:27young people.
01:28Forensic genetics, like science in general, thrives on the exchange of ideas between specialists.
01:33With this specific objective, the SIGU forensic genetics working group wanted to establish, among the various activities
01:41carried out this year,
01:42a permanent table between all those who have responsibility for accredited laboratories, that is, those laboratories that can produce the
01:51forensic genetics data
01:52which feed the National DNA Database.
01:56This initiative was followed by others.
02:00A working group must be an environment in which even young people can be trained.
02:06In the meantime, we have defined cultural programs, very high-level training programs with the most important world experts in genetics.
02:18forensic.
02:19Alongside this we have also started collaborative exercises, allowing all those participating in the working group,
02:27who have laboratory responsibilities to verify the performance of their laboratories and to compare the results,
02:34with exercises that are real training for quality.
