00:00The H-1B visa is how people come into the country, the PERM program is how they stay in the
00:05United States to begin with.
00:07Now, there has been no company in the United States, unfortunately, that has abused this system more than Microsoft.
00:13And let me just give you a couple of statistics on this.
00:15I know, in the last year, Microsoft, and I want to be clear about the data here, so let me check
00:21this,
00:21but Microsoft laid off last year 6,000, 6,000 American workers.
00:27At the same time, the company benefited from 6,300 H-1B visas and almost 3,000 green cards.
00:34In other words, if you do the math, for every worker that Microsoft laid off,
00:38they replaced that worker with one and a half foreign indentured servants.
00:43Now, that is a scandalous system that we've allowed in this country for far too long,
00:47but thanks to the work of this task force and thanks to the empowerment of the President of the United
00:51States,
00:52we are going to stop it because thanks to an ongoing investigation,
00:54we have decided to suspend the PERM program for Microsoft,
00:59which means they will no longer be able to take those H-1Bs
01:05and apply for permanent resident status within the United States of America.
01:10Now, our message to Microsoft and to any other foreign or domestic corporation is quite simple.
01:15We obviously want you to thrive in the United States of America.
01:17We want people to invest in the United States of America,
01:20particularly the American technology sector.
01:23We are the biggest boosters of your industry.
01:26We want you to continue to grow and to employ a lot of people,
01:29but we want you to employ American workers.
01:31And so our message to Microsoft is you're a great American company,
01:35but you've got to hire great American workers.
01:37You cannot lay off American workers and then replace them with foreign indentured servants.
01:42And I'm a professional.
