00:00Anyway, Jonathan's in the city. Hi, Jonathan. 888-957-9570. We're taking your calls, Niner Seahawks.
00:07And yeah, who actually in your heart of hearts do you think is going to win this game?
00:11And then circle a player. I'm circling Dre Greenlaw. That's the guy.
00:15I haven't circled my guy yet. Who's your guy?
00:16After Jonathan, I'll let you know.
00:18Jonathan, what's going on?
00:21Hey, you guys are going to love where I am. I'm usually in the city when I call like 99
00:25% of the time I'm in the city.
00:27But today I find myself on a golf course, Southern Landing Golf Club in Warner Robins in Georgia.
00:35Wife's family is having a huge family reunion. Don't play any golf.
00:39The only golf I play is a G-U-L-P, and that's downing alcoholic beverages.
00:45Oh, beautiful.
00:46So now, yeah, so now I'm in the game. I got two keys to the game, right?
00:52And the keys are the offensive line.
00:55They need to play as well as they've been playing, protect Purdy, give him just enough time to make his
01:03reads, and set the tone.
01:05The offense needs to set the tone to let the Seahawks know, hey, this is not the Niners of the
01:10last two games.
01:11This is a much improved offensive line, and we're going to show you.
01:15Another key is, actually, I'm more excited to see if this defense continues to see what they've shown us.
01:24You know, the blitzability, the secondary making plays, Greenlaw and Fred Warner punching the ball out, right?
01:33So those are the two keys to the game.
01:35I feel really confident until I've seen this information on the chat GPT, and it says that 82% of
01:45the public is on the Niners, and, you know, we get two cracks at the Seahawks.
01:52If this is not the game we get them, we'll get them next time, but go Niners.
01:57Jonathan, thank you very much.
01:59Jonathan in Georgia giving us a call.
02:02Yeah.
02:02It's getting late out there.
02:03Warner Robins.
02:04Exactly.
02:05That is a Little League baseball hotbed.
02:08When you are a Little League World Series aficionado, you got a lot of Warner Robins traditionally in there.
02:14I bet.
02:15Well, let's talk about what he just said.
02:16So the public is on the Niners.
02:19Okay.
02:20And by the way, the number up to the second is three.
02:24It's just a straight three.
02:26It's your stock home field three for the Seattle Seahawks.
02:30I don't know if that means the Sharps.
02:32Actually, I'll text him.
02:33Fade, Fade, Fade.
02:34I'll text Avello and see where the Sharps are.
02:36I want to know where the Sharp money is on this one.
02:39This is fascinating to me because I do think, or let me ask, why would the public be on the
02:46Niners?
02:48Why would the public be on the Niners?
02:50I thought Seattle was, you know, 41 to 6.
02:54Well, it's because the first four weeks that the Niners have had, Brock Purdy is now either the frontrunner for
03:00MVP or 1A behind Josh Allen.
03:03The advanced metrics tell you that they've had one of the best four-game starts in the history of the
03:09league.
03:09And then you look at Seattle and they've got no running back one, no running back two, no running back
03:14three.
03:15And it just feels like it's a different sort of a matchup.
03:18You've got Fred and Dre you didn't last year.
03:21You've got Debo and you've got George Kittle who's back healthy.
03:24I do think that on paper, the Niners are better than they were last year and Seattle's not quite as
03:30good.
03:31Well, on paper.
03:32Right.
03:33The Niners are better than the Seahawks.
03:35Right.
03:36But they weren't last year when they went and faced them in the playoffs.
03:39Do you accept that premise, by the way?
03:41I wonder if everybody, do you accept that premise?
03:43That they're better on paper?
03:45That doesn't matter.
03:46Paper, whatever.
03:47Right.
03:47It doesn't matter.
03:48Like, I think, you know, we've tried to debunk paper all year because we spent all summer.
03:53Well, on paper, the Rams should never lose a game.
03:55On paper, it's toilet paper.
03:58It's very wispy.
03:59It's thin.
04:00Like, it doesn't matter.
04:01You have to go play.
04:03But if you want to look at it that way and break it down, go position group by position group
04:10and tell me what you see.
04:12Like, Seahawks have got a wonderful defense.
04:15This isn't going to be me sitting here and ripping the Seahawks.
04:17They're awesome.
04:18They've got what I would consider.
04:20They've got who I would consider the best skilled position player in the game.
04:24They've got Jackson Smith and Jigba.
04:26But outside of that, your next skilled position player on the Seahawks would land where in this conversation?
04:35Probably like seventh.
04:36Roughly, yeah.
04:37I don't even like...
04:38A.J. Barner.
04:39Right.
04:40It's a good tight end.
04:40Rashid Shahid.
04:42Well, like, Robert Turbin.
04:44Turbin told us that they're not even using Shahid like they should.
04:47It's like three touches a game.
04:49Right.
04:49Probably Cooper Cup, but yeah, to your point, it's down the list.
04:52He'd be the next up.
04:53You're right.
04:53But I would put him behind Kittle and Evans and Debo and McCaffrey.
04:57For sure you would.
04:58For sure you would.
04:59I mean, quarterbacks aside, I assume we're doing, you know, not counting the quarterbacks as the skill guys.
05:04No, I agree.
05:04Because they're quarterbacks.
05:05I agree.
05:05So, I mean, who's got the better offensive line right now?
05:09It's the Niners.
05:10Not close.
05:10Who's got the better defensive line?
05:12The Seahawks.
05:13The Seahawks.
05:13And it's probably not close.
05:14I agree.
05:16Who's got the better linebackers?
05:18I think the Niners do, but again, that's nuanced because Seattle runs a different team.
05:23Right.
05:24The Niners have the two ferocious heat seekers.
05:27And Seattle's defense, I think, is just better than the Niners.
05:30I agree.
05:31And they resemble their defense from last year a lot more than their offense does.
05:35So, if I give you that the Seahawks' defense is better than the Niners' defense, but the gap is like
05:39what?
05:39Let's say Seattle's number one and the Niners are what?
05:42Number five.
05:43But what about on offense?
05:45Okay, the Niners are number one and the Seahawks are number, I don't know, 16?
05:50Something like that.
05:51I mean, who's got the better quarterback?
05:53It would be the Niners, yeah.
05:54Who's got the better running back?
05:56The 49ers.
05:57Who's got the better skill position players?
05:59It's close, but I would say the Niners.
06:01I would say the Niners.
06:02But again, you have to look at the situational reality of Mike Evans being at 65 or 70 percent.
06:08No injury designation.
06:09I mean, when I watch Mike Evans play right now, I don't think it's affecting his play.
06:14He's just in pain, but I don't see him as not being able to do what he does.
06:19I see him.
06:20He's in pain.
06:20Well, he's able to do only limited things, and he goes out there and he catches the ball,
06:25and he goes down and he winces, and he usually goes out of the game for a time or two.
06:29Although that was last week.
06:31I would imagine that this week he is stronger than he was seven days ago, I would think.
06:38Possibly.
06:38Questionable last week.
06:40Questionable concern.
06:41Kyle Shanahan didn't even think until Saturday that there was any chance he would play.
06:45This week he has no injury designation at all.
06:48I'm going to take from that that he's a better version of himself this week.
06:52If he didn't get the ribs hit at all, you would expect that if they are fractured,
06:56then they're a little bit more healed than they were.
06:59To your question about the offense, the Niners are No. 1 in weighted EPA,
07:05which is expected points added per play.
07:08They're No. 1, and Seattle's No. 10.
07:10So they are top 10 according to this metric, and Buffalo's 2, Baltimore's 3, blah, blah, blah.
07:16And then defensively, I think Seattle, they might be No. 2.
07:22No. 2.
07:22And the Niners are No. 8.
07:24That's what I'm saying.
07:25Yeah, the gap is there but smaller on the defensive side than it is on the offensive side.
07:30For sure.
07:31Look, these are both good teams.
07:32They're both good.
07:33They're both effective at what they do.
07:36And we didn't do defensive backfield, which is another thing, an edge I would give to Seattle over the 49ers.
07:42But we're also still getting to know these groups.
07:45This 49er defense has been really, really good.
07:48Is that because they were playing Miami and Arizona and a just exhausted Rams team?
07:55Or are they this good?
07:57You know, are they this good because Fred Warner and Dre Greenlaw are playing?
08:01And Michael Williams, by the way, no injury designation.
08:03He is a full capital I-N-N for this weekend.
08:07And we'll see how much he can contribute coming off of about a year, roughly, of not playing.
08:14And just looking a little deeper inside the EPA numbers, expected points added,
08:18which is a metric that many, many people use as a real way to look at how good you are.
08:24Seattle is No. 1 against the rush on defense.
08:28As far as expected points added for other teams on the ground, the Niners are 14th.
08:33So they've been mid against the run, and that's what is so interesting to me about this matchup.
08:39The Niners this year, better running the ball.
08:41They're going up against a great run defense.
08:43Seattle, not great running it against a mediocre run defense.
08:47Although I would argue it's going to be a better run defense because that was something that Michael Williams had
08:52a profound effect on last year.
08:54Sure, I don't know how many snaps.
08:56I don't know what version of himself.
08:58But I can only think that it's going to help.
09:00The defensive line is getting better.
09:03You know what I mean?
09:04I think right now they're pretty much, you know, C.J. West, OK, Alfred Collins.
09:08We weren't really excited about the way those guys were playing anyway.
09:11Right now they're missing their best guy.
09:13They're missing Nick Bosa, who, by the way, I've got an update on.
09:17But I think, you know, Mike Hell getting back into it and the rookies, Halton, Height, getting more games under
09:24their belt.
09:24I don't think it's a bad group.
09:26I don't think it's as bad as it was a couple of weeks ago.

09:48Nick Bosa directly says, I mean, there's a number of reports out there, but I'm going to go with this
09:55one reported by our friend Matt Maioco.
09:58Nick Bosa says, quote, he is pretty darn likely for week six against the Washington Commanders.
10:06PDL?
10:07He's PDL.
10:08I love that.
10:09Pretty darn likely.
10:10I like PDFs, too.
10:12I find them very easy to navigate on a laptop.
10:14But, yeah, PDL, pretty darn likely for Monday night football next week.
10:20I find myself to be pretty darn likely to play, man.
10:22I'm glad you asked me that.
10:23I'm feeling better, and I don't think I'll quite be ready for Sunday.
10:25But if you ask me about the next game, pretty darn likely.
10:29Put that down.
10:29It's too chatty.
10:31Do it in three words.
10:32I think I'm pretty darn likely, Matt.
10:35That was like six words.
10:37Are you Barrows or Maioco?
10:39I get confused.
10:40That's funny.
10:41We have great energy, so I'm ecstatic about that.
10:45See, everything is five words or less.
10:46That's a saccaroonie, baby.
10:48That's three words or less right there.
10:50Won't have any this week.
10:51I don't know if saccaroonie is an official word, but I got it as one word.
