00:44from memory correctly best embodies
00:46both Christ's mercy and love
00:48but also his
00:50commitment to truth and
00:52sometimes in the modern gospel
00:53we over emphasize the grace
00:56and we under emphasize the truth
00:58and so we are far too willing to say
01:01hey Jesus loves everybody
01:03but we don't get to the second part of the conversation
01:05that says Jesus doesn't want you to live in sin
01:07so this is
01:08in John 8 it's best embodied right
01:10almost every Christian in this audience
01:12will be able to tell you the first part of this
01:13which is a bunch of Sadducees and Pharisees
01:15who are sitting around
01:16standing around with rocks
01:17and they're about to stone
01:18the prostitute woman
01:20and Jesus comes up and says
01:21let the first among you without sin
01:23cast the first stone
01:24and everyone starts dropping the rocks
01:26but what comes next
01:27shows that Christ is not just grace focused
01:30he's simultaneously truth focused
01:32he goes up to the woman
01:34who had a career
01:35in selling herself for sex
01:37and said
01:38sin no more
01:40now imagine today
01:42how much trouble you would get in
01:43if you would go up to somebody
01:45and say
01:45stop sinning
01:47that way you're being too judgmental
01:49no no
01:49you're actually being Christ like
01:51so Jesus stood
01:52he was 100% grace
01:54and truth
01:55and that tension is very hard
01:56in a modern world
01:57because we want to over emphasize grace
01:59when in reality
02:01Christ loves us too much
02:02to have us continue to live in sin
02:04he wants us to try to elevate our actions
02:07to glorify God in all that we do
