00:00Oh, boy. Oh, boy. Sterling, let's go. Garner. What a win, Sterling. I was, I think the producers think I'm
00:16crazy. I was in here screaming the whole game. I mean, what a performance by the 49ers. Where do we
00:24start, Sterling? I mean, honestly.
00:28Dude, my mind is blown. The Niners won in Seattle. They put up 32 points in the brink of the
00:36moment. Brock Purdy marches the offense down the field. He basically only targets Mike Evans every single time. They get
00:43a two-point conversion. If they don't get that, this is a game-winning field goal for the Seahawks. The
00:48game's over. San Francisco loses.
00:50There are so many big plays in this game. Every single drive mattered in this one. Every single turnover mattered.
00:58Whether it's a third down stop by San Francisco, a big first down play by Seattle. Oh, my God, Carter.
01:04My mind is melted. But guess what, buddy? 5-0. San Francisco's still 5-0.
01:11You know, Sterling, though, one thing people are not mentioning is that this is the first time they've been 5
01:15-0 and had a win against Seattle and a win against the Rams under their belt on top of it.
01:21Plus, obviously, you throw in the Cardinals, but they're not much of a threat anyway.
01:25But, I mean, Sterling, my God.
01:28You just felt like you get the turnovers. You're winning the turnover battle at one point in that game, and
01:34it just starts to go completely sideways for the 49ers.
01:36And let's be honest, fear seeped in for everybody there around the third quarter, and they just took it back.
01:45And I want to start here, Sterling. Mike Evans has changed his team.
01:51The guy is an all-time player.
01:53What we just watched, that was some of the best work you could ask for from a number one receiver.
02:00That guy just completely changed the game.
02:02He stole the hearts of Seattle in that game to me completely.
02:06And I'm giving out my game ball in the first segment, Sterling.
02:10I'm doing it.
02:11For the offense, there's no question that Mike Evans gets my game ball.
02:15That drive that he sealed off for them was just unbelievable.
02:19He gets up wincing the whole time.
02:22You can tell he's in visible pain.
02:24And the grit that guy brought to this game to me completely changed the game.
02:31You're mentioning that big drive by San Francisco, right?
02:34They're down.
02:34They have to have one touchdown.
02:36Can the offense finally answer?
02:38Can the offense put one drive together against a Seahawks defense that has given them problems not just today, but
02:44in the previous two outings?
02:46Today, San Francisco didn't score a touchdown unless they got a turnover in Seattle's own red zone.
02:54Besides one drive, and you're mentioning Mike Evans on that drive.
02:59First and 20, who does Brock Purdy turn to?
03:02Mike Evans, 15 yards, sets up a third down conversion later.
03:06Third and 10, same drive, right?
03:09Who does Purdy find?
03:11Mike Evans, 23 yards, right?
03:14Then after that play, intentional grounding, a fake one on Brock Purdy.
03:18On second and 21, where does Purdy go to?
03:21That's right.
03:22Mike Evans, right at the goal line, gets San Francisco about three or four yards away from punching in a
03:29touchdown.
03:29Then who does Brock Purdy go to again, right?
03:32Cooks gets the touchdown.
03:34Then it gets taken away.
03:35Then it gets the touchdown again.
03:37Two-point conversion.
03:38Mike Evans sealed this one for San Francisco.
03:40Obviously, more things happened afterwards.
03:43Eddie P's big field goal, too.
03:45But my God, Mike Evans is the alpha, the Niner fan base, and San Francisco's offense has been waiting for
03:53since T.O. left town all the way back in the early 2000s.
03:57He is the biggest difference maker this Niner team has had since Terrell Owens at wide receiver.
04:02There's nobody close.
04:03What he brings to an offense, the ability to beat a defense over and over and over again, despite not
04:10having Debo Samuel, not having Demarcus Robinson, they know the ball is going to Mike Evans, and you can't stop
04:17it.
04:17But, I mean, to do it against that secondary, Sterling, you could tell in the first half, too.
04:22Look, Purdy was okay today.
04:24I didn't think he was anything special today.
04:27But you could tell that, really, Seattle was—I'm more giving the credit to Seattle today and that defense back there.
04:33You could just tell that things weren't open.
04:35The pocket was closing on Purdy very quickly today, let's be honest.
04:38They finally let up their first sacks, and not only did they let up one, they let up three.
04:44And, I mean, it just felt like, you know, I was walking around here, and what Mike Evans reminded me
04:50of today was you get that Warriors offense in 2016, and they come back, and they add Kevin Durant the
04:57next year, which—what were we all thinking?
05:00The offense is great, right?
05:01But now we added a guy where, when the shot clock's running out, I can throw him this—you know, give
05:06him the ball and say, go get me a bucket right now.
05:09And that's what Mike Evans felt like today, is that when it all felt like it was just going wrong,
05:15go look for that guy.
05:16He's going to go make a play.
05:17No problem.
05:18And he stepped up every single time.
05:21I just can't get over it.
05:23The guy has been a complete world changer for this offense to me.
05:27In games like this in the past, they've looked to Debo Samuel in 2021.
05:32He took over games for San Francisco, right?
05:35But he wasn't the receiver Mike Evans is.
05:37They looked at George Kittle at times.
05:39He was sick in this one, had a couple of nice plays, but it wasn't a big Kittle outing.
05:43They've gone to CMC in previous years.
05:45Offensive player of the year in 2023, that was his season.
05:49The last couple of years, 2024 to now, San Francisco has been looking for the guy.
05:54Who's the guy our quarterback can turn to when the moment gets tough on third down?
05:59You have to have one drive.
06:00They haven't had that dude for three seasons.
06:03It's been Ronnie Bells and Brandon Iyuk for seven games, injured Ricky Pearsall.
06:08And while there's been small glimmers of hope within those type of players, Mike Evans is the epitome of consistent
06:15alpha male wide receiver.
06:18He's a bigger body guy.
06:19He can go up and get it.
06:21He fights through contact.
06:22He gives Brock Purdy a target to say, hey, someone's open down there somewhere.
06:27And even if he's not, I'm still going to give him a chance.
06:30You watched today exactly why San Francisco went out and got Mike Evans in the offseason.
06:35It's games like this against Seattle when that defense is so strong, when nothing's going right.
06:40Can we turn to you and can you answer the call?
06:43Will the phone ring?
06:44And guess what?
06:45Mike Evans was there saying, hey, I got you guys.
06:47Let's go win this game out there in Seattle.
06:49I mean, honestly, Sterling, you know, I think maybe a year ago or so, 2024, we were all complaining that
06:54the receivers couldn't get separation.
06:56They had a huge separation problem.
06:58And we remember the term sticky man coverage, you know, and I just couldn't stand that damn term for God's
07:04sake.
07:05But everyone was saying, you know, the sticky man coverage.
07:08They can't do anything.
07:08You know, the 49ers can't do anything against this.
07:11You put sticky man coverage on Mike Evans.
07:13It doesn't matter.
07:14He's going to take the ball from you.
07:15He's going to go up and get it and you're not going to get it.
07:18That guy is just unbelievable.
07:20There was a lot more drama in this game, though, Sterling, that I want to get to.
07:25My heart has not come down yet, Carter.
07:27And I already know they won the game and I'm still excited.
07:29I think you know where I'm headed with this one.
07:31We had a little bit of scuffle on the sideline.
07:34Dre Greenlaw.
07:36Man.
07:37Yeah.
07:38I mean, what did you think there, Sterling?
07:41I personally loved it.
07:44Yeah.
07:44I mean, look, you have to love Dre.
07:46I have his jersey.
07:47He's somebody who you just know he brings so much to this defense.
07:51You saw against Denver last weekend.
07:52Right.
07:53We didn't have the show, but I can almost guarantee you we're talking about Dre Greenlaw for almost two and
07:57a half hours.
07:58Right.
07:58He was phenomenal.
08:00I will say this.
08:02I'm shocked this didn't happen earlier in the year, maybe against the Rams or even against Denver.
08:07Last week, I just wish it didn't happen against Seattle because this reminded me, although maybe to a lesser extent
08:14because San Francisco won.
08:16It reminded me of the Niners are holding this Chiefs offense down and Dre Greenlaw goes down with injury.
08:21Right.
08:22This reminded me of a Niners defense is smothering Seattle's offense and Dre Greenlaw gets ejected.
08:27What happens next?
08:29Now, Jaden Duggar answered the call.
08:30Luke Gifford answered the call.
08:31This defensive line answered the call.
08:33They were ferocious all day.
08:36They manhandled that Seahawks offensive line.
08:39But Dre Greenlaw, you knew they were going to bait you, brother.
08:43What are you doing?
08:44You know the bait's coming.
08:46Don't take the cheese, man.
08:47Get out of there when you can.
08:49No, listen, when I say I love it, obviously you don't love the outcome.
08:53You need Dre in that game, right?
08:54But I think what I loved about it is just like, it's just kind of like this notion now that
09:02there's nastiness in this defense.
09:04And you just didn't have that feeling last year.
09:07You just felt like it was pillows and flowers last year.
09:10And now there's some nastiness on this defense.
09:13And you feel like his presence being back in general is just seeping through everyone, including Fred Warner to me,
09:20honestly.
09:21I mean, you don't need to get Fred going.
09:23He gets himself going.
09:24But it just feels like Dre ignites this nastiness in Fred that maybe he doesn't have, you know, necessarily when
09:31Dre's not out there.
09:32I think.
09:33I just think that what he does for this defense, passed on the field and just kind of this swagger
09:39he gives them, it's just unbelievable.
09:42And to me, like, look, he was trying to get back on the field, right?
09:46And to me, Jones steps in his face.
09:49Look, you never headbutt a guy, obviously, with your helmet on.
09:52He grabbed his face mask, though.
09:54Yeah, that's a no-no.
09:55I mean, come on.
09:56You know, I'm reasonable.
09:57But I do think, like, I mean, buddy, what do you expect?
10:02You're doing this to one of the baddest men on the planet.
10:04You're probably going to get a result you don't love.
10:07Right.
10:07Like, last year in San Francisco against Seattle, it felt like we were the little brother.
10:11We just couldn't fight back.
10:13Like, we hadn't grown into our body yet, right?
10:15We hadn't gotten our strength.
10:16And you plug Dre back into that, and it's like, oh, now you have an enforcer, somebody who's going to
10:21take no nonsense, even if it costs him a half a play.
10:24He's going to make sure a message is sent that we're not taking any gruff this year.
10:30Seattle can bait us all we want.
10:31We'll fight back.
10:32We'll head, but we're going to scrap and be gritty, and we're going to claw our way to wins.
10:36And, I mean, you can make the case that of the last two, three years, this is the grittiest Niners
10:43win there's been.
10:44Like, this is a game where you're in Lumen Field.
10:47You're in Seattle.
10:48Front of the 12 was the first time since getting blown out, not once, but twice, against this team.
10:54And they're playing with all the house cards, right?
10:58They have it all in their favor.
10:59They're relatively healthy.
11:01Their quarterback's back.
11:02Their defense is completely healthy.
11:04How do the Niners come into Lumen Field and find a way to win?
11:08You have guys like Dre Greenlaw, who clearly, his impact on that defense doesn't need to be talked about that
11:15much.
11:15But it's the impact on Jair Brown, who was fantastic today.
11:19Big third down stop in this one.
11:20Malik Mustafa was out there lowering the heads and shoulders and blowing dudes off the field, right?
11:26It also impacts guys like Grayson Halden, younger dudes that are trying to find their way into what NFL player
11:32am I going to be?
11:33What mentality am I going to have for 60 minutes on the gridiron?
11:37You put Dre Greenlaw behind you, calling out plays, pointing out things, getting in your ear.
11:42That makes you want to grit your teeth and just sock someone in the mouth.
11:46And San Francisco walked out there today, threw some punches and got punched back, and they withstood, and they fought,
11:53and they scrapped.
11:54And that is exactly what this team has been known for, what they lost last year, and it's who they
11:59are once again in 2026.
12:02Sterling, can you think of a regular season game that was, I mean, honestly, in Shanahan's tenure that was exciting
12:09as that one?
12:10I mean, honestly, that was as good as it gets.
12:122019 in Seattle?
12:14That's kind of the other one, right?
12:15That was the only one I could really think of.
12:17Beside that, though, I mean, that is one of the better regular season games you will ever watch in your
12:21life.
12:22I don't even think that's a hot take, frankly.
12:24No, look, the back and forth, the offensive turnover is a defensive takeaway.
12:29Seattle at their own two-yard line running the football.
12:32Halani's like, I don't know how to hold on to the ball.
12:34Grayson Halden jumps in there, gets a touchdown before halftime.
12:38We've talked about this the last couple years with that Seahawks defense.
12:43Every blade of grass has to be earned.
12:46You're not going to score touchdowns on this team.
12:48It's going to take your defense making plays.
12:51And I know you can point to Purdy's interception.
12:53It felt like a big backbreaker at the time.
12:55You can point to a couple of defensive drives where you said, oh, man, they couldn't get a stop there.
13:01JSN almost took over, late big drop on that last drive.
13:05But, man, like this game in itself will go down as a Shanahan-era classic alongside that Seahawks game in
13:132019.
13:14Maybe that Rams game, you know, finally got the year in 2021 to get in the playoffs.
13:19But this was a classic.
13:21It was so fun, so back and forth.
13:23My wife and she has a friend here right now.
13:25So they had to leave because I just would not stop yelling and screaming of like, you've got to be
13:31kidding me.
13:31Oh, my God.
13:32How did he pull that off?
13:34Oh, he dropped it.
13:35Every play was like on the edge of my seat, Carter.
13:37A hundred percent.
13:38I think I was screaming so loud out in the arena here.
13:40I'm pretty sure my voice is being broadcast on KCBS in the other studio.
13:44I mean, honestly, it's just unbelievable game.
13:47You get everything you can.
13:48And now is your 4 p.m. traffic.
13:50Oh, the Niners quit that shit.
13:52I'm just screaming profanities in the arena.
13:55I mean, it was just unbelievable.
13:56I have to apologize to the producers, honestly.
13:57They must think I'm insane.
13:59It's like a 20-second dump block for KCBS because Carter can't stop cursing.
14:02I told Cam I might get fired after this show, honestly.
14:05This is just such an unbelievable win.
14:07You need to have your finger above the dump button for everything I say.
14:11I just, that game had everything, Sterling.
14:15You have the turnovers.
14:16You get mega points on both sides of the board.
14:20You know what I mean?
14:20Yeah.
14:21Who expected that?
14:22Exactly.
14:23I mean, the turnovers, the off-field drama.
14:26I mean, Pinheiro missing kicks.
14:28The fumble, you know, Cowling's fumble.
14:31There was just a little bit of everything in that game.
14:33And I just, I mean, that's one of those losses where if you're Seattle,
14:40you are going to be kicking yourself for a couple weeks.
14:42That's a gut punch.
14:43That is a brutal loss.
14:46I mean, the 49ers could stomach that loss a little more than Seattle, I think, could at this point.
14:53But, man, you almost feel badly for them.
14:57I will never feel badly for that team.
14:59But, man.
15:01Well, yeah, like now they're two games behind San Francisco.
15:05San Francisco gets the long week.
15:07They play Washington on Monday Night Football.
15:09Maybe they'll get some guys back.
15:11Maybe Kirk comes back.
15:12Bosa might come back for that game, right?
15:14But I think Seattle plays Thursday against Denver.
15:17Then they're in Kansas City.
15:19Like, Seattle does it.
15:21Like, their schedule does not get easier.
15:22And they just played a tough game.
15:25Like, that's why this one, to me, was like, look, San Francisco's potential of bouncing back was very high.
15:32Seattle could lose on Thursday.
15:34Seattle could lose in two weeks against KAC, and they're 500, and San Francisco's out there.
15:39Like, we're three games above the Seahawks now.
15:41And, obviously, you've got to go take care of business against the teams you play.
15:44But this was a big one for San Francisco, not only to win, now it'll be 3-0 in your
15:50own division, but create separation and maybe further that as the next couple weeks go by.
15:55But, man, big win, Carter.
15:57I cannot tell you how happy I am right now.
15:59I'm trying to somewhat trying to contain it, but I don't want to do too much.
16:02We're on the radio, so I can't say what I want to.
16:04Me too, Sterling.
16:05I wish we were on a podcast, for God's sake.
16:07Like, I'm so elated to this win.
16:09I just, I mean.
16:10There's no dumping on a podcast, brother.
16:12Yeah, I just, I feel like we've been, you and I have been pretty tempered through the first four.
16:16You know, we weren't in here last week.
16:18I would have been pretty stoked last week.
16:19But this one was the one I have had marked since the first show, as you recall.
16:24The claws are coming out.
16:25Yes, and to see them go do this, and frankly, like, look, you know, I said that that was not
16:31Purdy's best game, and I think it wasn't by any means.
16:35And prior to that interception there in the second half, I thought he was okay, because I just felt like
16:42he was at least taking care of the ball.
16:45And when you're in those kind of games against a defense that is that good, there's just sometimes not that
16:51much you can do.
16:52You know what I mean?
16:52It's, plays are very, very hard to make.
16:55You're throwing balls like, you know, we talk about all the time how good Purdy is at setting up a
16:59receiver.
17:00He puts it right in the basket so the receiver doesn't even have to, you know, pick his head up.
17:04He's just looking forward because the pass is so accurate in his hands.
17:07Those are one of the defenses where, like, you're throwing behind a guy in the route because that's the only
17:12place to get the ball in.
17:13You know, otherwise it's going to be a pick.
17:15Like, that's how good that defense is.
17:17And, you know, the D-line is not, you know, they're not elementary school kids.
17:22Like, that D-line is a serious D-line, but we know about the secondary.
17:26That secondary is one of, you know, as good a secondary as you could really put together in football.
17:30And so, I thought that the offensive line did not have its best game.
17:35Obviously, I'm sure you would agree with that.
17:37I think they struggled at times.
17:39But I thought that one thing Purdy really was incredible at today was he maneuvered the pocket just incredibly.
17:45I mean, he was dancing back there at times.
17:47And I think he avoided a lot of sacks that most quarterbacks would not have been able to.
17:53Yeah, you know, I would agree that before the interception, we all could say this felt very much like last
17:59Sunday's game against Denver.
18:01San Francisco's biding their time.
18:03The offense isn't turning the ball over.
18:05They're not letting Seattle's defense take over the game.
18:08And the minute Purdy throws the interception, right, it comes off of Seattle getting a field goal, making it a
18:13five-point game, 21-16.
18:15The ball is on San Francisco's 34-yard line, right?
18:19It's third and seven.
18:21Seattle's starting to gain momentum.
18:22They're one score down, and Purdy throws the pick.
18:25Why are we targeting counting on third downs?
18:27I don't know.
18:27Why is he out there?
18:28I don't know.
18:29I get you banged up, but find somebody else, please.
18:32Like, you got to find answers elsewhere.
18:34But that play in itself felt like the end.
18:39San Francisco's still winning at that point.
18:42But then three plays later, JSN gets a big touchdown.
18:45And it kind of felt like, oh, here we go.
18:48Here's where things unravel.
18:49San Francisco can't capitalize on their multiple turnovers.
18:53The offense can't find its consistency.
18:56There's just no gumption to their game, right?
18:59And it's not looking good.
19:03And I was telling myself in my head, because no one else here knows football, my wife does
19:07not care at all.
19:08I'm like, just give me one drive, Brock.
19:11Just give me one drive.
19:12And he did that.
19:13And I think the ability to overcome that, like, you take away Cowings' muff punt.
19:18This is a one turnover game for San Francisco, right?
19:20Or I guess Debo's two, but that one was kind of, you know, ticky-tack, whatever.
19:24Like, Brock played the game he needed to play.
19:26It wasn't two interceptions, it wasn't three interceptions.
19:29Like, had Brock thrown an INT later in the game, too, I would have said, yep, that makes
19:34sense.
19:34Like, this is how these games go for every other quarterback in football.
19:38It's how a game's gone for Brock in previous outings against his defense.
19:42But he sacked up, and he answered the call when it mattered most.
19:47I mean, I think you put it perfectly.
19:49He was good enough today.
19:52And sometimes that's just all you got to be, and you got to rely on other parts of the
19:55game to win you it.
19:56You know, you keep bringing up a name, Sterling, where I'm not sure I'm going to allow you to
20:01talk about him anymore, because I'm going to have trouble going off here.
20:03But Jacob, had they lost that game, we would have spent an hour of this show.
20:08I would have spent an hour of this show crucifying Jacob Cowling, I have to tell you.
20:12I texted everyone.
20:13We would have lost all our listeners on the Cowling hour.
20:15Yeah, they need to win this, because I'm going to spend an hour of overtime crucifying
20:19this guy for that.
20:21Just don't put anyone back there.
20:23Just, I don't want a returner.
20:25I do not want a returner anymore.
20:27It's just, the juice is not worth the squeeze.
20:30It really is not.
20:32I'm sorry at this point.
20:33Look, Sterling, I'm struggling, too.
20:35When you look at, the Green Bay Packers paid Skymore $2.5 million.
20:40I mean, what is Parag cooking these books for?
20:43Well, I mean, what are we, are we saving?
20:45Well, Parag's not cooking notebooks, because he ain't there no more.
20:48It's Jed, whoever else he's paying money to in Ohio right now.
20:53But, no, look, like, I understand you want a young player to be out there, get some reps.
20:58You trust him, he's the big return in the preseason, right?
21:01Maybe he saved his job.
21:03But Christian Kirk's coming back next week.
21:05Demarcus Robinson, hopefully in two weeks' time.
21:07Maybe Debo's injury is as bad as it looked.
21:10You know, maybe you can buy yourself a little bit of time.
21:14Brandon Cook's got a big touchdown pass today.
21:15Like, that's a good sight, right?
21:17But, man, like, put Jordan Watkins back there.
21:20Like, when Kyle Juszczyk returns, fair catch.
21:24I know that ball's staying inbound.
21:25It's not going to be on the ground.
21:27Obviously, you can't play like that.
21:29But you look at Seattle, who has one of the most dangerous return men in football.
21:34And Rasheed just hit a big 22-yard catch late in this one, too.
21:37But that big return near the end of the game got Seattle to the 45-yard line.
21:42Like, the field immediately shrinks of, okay, we need 75 yards.
21:47Now we need 35 yards.
21:49You don't need a game changer back there, per se,
21:51but you just need someone to not mess it up, right?
21:56Like, you just play clean football.
21:58I understand you want to make a play.
22:00You're a young player.
22:01You're playing Seattle.
22:02You're anxious.
22:03I'd rather you play it safe and the offense be pinned at the one-yard line
22:07than you try to make a play and get blown up for a fumble on your own 10.
22:12Why?
22:13There's no point in doing it.
22:14Play safe football.
22:15Safe football wins more often than not.
22:18Be a game manager punter.
22:19We'll all take that when it's all said and done.
22:21Yeah, exactly.
22:22You know, you bring that up,
22:23and it makes me think back to the Week 18 game of last year.
22:27I mean, in the first half of that game, if you go back and watch it,
22:31the 49ers let Seattle start almost at the 50 on every drive.
22:36And because of it, you know,
22:37what chances does the defense have when you're working with that little field?
22:40You know what I mean?
22:41It's almost impossible.
22:42So I get it.
22:44Look, special teams are a big part of the game,
22:46and obviously I say it kind of jokingly about don't put a returner back there,
22:51but it just feels to me like you're losing a lot more than you're winning
22:55in that aspect of the game.
22:56888-957-9570 is the number.
23:01Niner fans, where are you at?
