00:00What a win. Let's talk about this, Sterling. I think Wallace had a good point there, which is the run
00:07game. I felt like when they really stymied there in the third quarter, you know, and Seattle kind of started
00:13to take over the game, Kyle went away from the run. And man, it bugged me. I mean, what was
00:20he thinking there, Sterling? I just couldn't figure it out.
00:23You know, Shanahan's play calling, whenever the game gets really tight, it's almost like he gets a little tight too
00:30and is like, uh, we'll call a kettle screen. We're going to call a Debo Samuel end around. It's like,
00:37I don't know if it's like the lack of preparation or he's like, we're down bad. We got to pull
00:43something out of our butt. We have to make a big play, give momentum back.
00:47Um, I don't know, like going into their drives, it's all run by CMC screen to Kittle pretty interception. The
00:54next one is, you know, complete to Kittle Debo Samuel fumbles the football. Then the next one is the big,
00:59you know, pretty to Evans touchdown. But man, like, yeah, this game felt like the Niners weren't really giving any
01:07pushback in that third quarter. Seattle just walked out there with the paddle in their hand and said, bend over
01:12brother. Now, you know, it's time to pay the piper. Right. And San Francisco was like, okay,
01:17like, let's do this. Uh, and I don't know if that's Kyle. Um, all I'll say is this. Thank God
01:25for remorse his defense because without them, this game would have been ugly from the jump. Yeah. Like this game
01:32would have been 30 to nothing. Seattle. It was trending towards looking like how it looked like the last two
01:38times they played. Um, but Shanahan notes himself, I hadn't scored touchdown against this offense in two outings. Like I'm
01:44not the person to talk to. Right. Um, I'm hoping this
01:47is the monkey off their back moment of, okay, we can do this. We can beat that team. We know
01:52we can beat this team now. And maybe it makes the next time these teams link up, maybe everyone's a
01:58little more relaxed. And hopefully that game means nothing by the end of the year. Like I would love week
02:0317, San Francisco has already got the X next to their name in the standings. And we're sitting here like
02:08rest of starters, brother. There ain't no reason this game don't matter at all.
02:11I'm with you, Sterling. You're listening to 95, seven, the game KGMZ FM and HD one, San Francisco and odyssey
02:17sports station. Always live on the free odyssey app. And now broadcasting from the laughing monk studios. I am completely
02:23with you, Sterling. I, I think, I mean, they got points today finally. And you know, they score the last
02:31three games combined. They scored 20, 26. Just put that in perspective today. They scored 32. So you gotta be
02:37pretty happy with it. Let's go back to the phone lines. Uh, let's go to core.
02:41Corey and set in Fresno. Corey, what's going on. Hey, how's it going? You guys. Good, my man. Great. Actually.
02:51Hey, so the 49ers hasn't had a number one wide receiver in years. And they finally have one in Mike
03:00Evans. And we do not win this game without Mike Evans. We finally have a number one.
03:08I think, yeah, there's no question, Corey. I'm, I'm with you. And honestly, Sterling, I feel like you and I
03:14can't sing his praises enough today. Cause Corey was absolutely right. We do not win that game without Mike Evans
03:19to me. That game is not one.
03:22Imagine having to rely upon Jacob Cowan, Brandon cooks and Jordan Watkins to win that game. Like that's what last
03:29year was for San Francisco, right? Um, the Niners wouldn't have won. We'd be sitting here talking about how did
03:36they lose this game after getting four defensive takeaways? How the offense has no answers. They have no response. You
03:42still have CMC. You have Kittle and the offense can do anything. Really? Like that's the conversation we're having. We're
03:47talking about pretty melting down late. The offense, not finding answers. Shanahan.
03:50You know, you got a little, you know, you know, you know what in the pants. It couldn't do, you
03:54know, couldn't figure things out, but that's not the case because Mike Evans and Brock Purdy have immaculate chemistry.
04:02It's, Hey dude, like I don't have anywhere else to go. Can you be my ultimate safety net? Like this
04:09is what Matt Ryan had with Julio Jones. This is what, you know, Dante Culpepper had with Randy Moss back
04:15in the day.
04:15It's what Joe Burrow has with Jamar Chase. It's what my homes has with Kelsey, right? It's those type of
04:22duos that make and take teams from okay.
04:26Average to good. In this case, from good to great. Like Purdy to me, didn't lose the MVP today.
04:31He had one bad throw. Other than that, Purdy and Mike Evans look as good as they ever have.
04:36And I think this, this game to me, and I'm sure we'll get into Purdy later too, but this game
04:41to me cements like their combination as San Francisco has the best quarterback tight end duo in football actively with
04:49Kittle and Purdy.
04:50I believe they may also have a top five receiver quarterback duo in Mike Evans and Brock Purdy too, because
04:55they've been lights out all year from week one to now off the street to now training camp to now.
05:01They have been one of the best in football. And today that one drive was the ultimate moneymaker of, yeah,
05:07these guys together are dangerous.
05:11Top five wide receiver QB duo. I think that active, I think that you're right. I think that that's very
05:18fair. In fact, I, I, at the break, I'm going to go through that and try to rip it apart
05:23for you.
05:23But I think, I think you're right there. Absolutely. Sterling. I don't think that's, that's a crazy take.
05:28Let's go to Rob in Houston. 888-957-9570. This is your show people. Give us a call. What a
05:37win. Oh my God. What a win. Rob, what's going on, man?
05:43Hey, what's up guys? I'm doing great, man. Hey, Dre Greenlaw should not have been ejected, bro. Seriously.
05:50Every Seahawks player was coming at him. Yeah. He's the only one that got ejected. That's crazy.
05:54The other guy was burning up on him or whatever. Hey, Mike, Mike Evans is amazing, bro.
06:00He's a, he fits perfectly with the Niners. It's sad to see Devo go out.
06:04I wonder what it really would have been like with Devo in there, but, uh, Hey, Niners pulled through and,
06:12uh, honestly, Hey, Seahawks and the Niners, they're different teams from last year.
06:16So we got to look at them differently. Seriously. Niners are better than this year. You know what I'm saying?
06:21I mean, who else is going to say something different about it? We've seen it now today.
06:28I think you're right, Rob. I think Rob said one thing there that we have not given enough credit to
06:32is this Seahawks team is not last year.
06:34Seahawks team to me. Nope. They're missing a lot. I mean, the running back room, we know it's just completely
06:42decimated up there.
06:43Uh, I think, you know, they lost reek woolen. I think people underestimate that to some degree.
06:48I, they also lost Kobe Bryant. If I'm not completely mistaken. Yeah. Yeah. So, uh, that matters, you know, especially
06:57when you look at what they were able to do last year on defense, like that matters.
07:01And I think we haven't given enough credit to that. Also, something I really did want to get into you,
07:07uh, into with you Sterling is I think we are starting to see Sam Darnold start to kind of fall
07:13back into the guy.
07:14He's been a little bit, I'm not going to say he's, he's going back to the Sam Darnold. We know
07:18it's hasn't been enough. We don't have enough footage yet.
07:22He was hurt, obviously some games, but today that looked to me like the Sam Darnold that I remember, not
07:28the Sam Darnold of last year or the year prior.
07:31Yeah. Yeah. You know, Sam throws two interceptions today. He looks a little rattled throughout the game, which I think
07:37is a credit to what San Francisco's defensive line was doing.
07:40You got to think with own Nick Bosa, this defensive line, I want four sacks today nearly had like 10,
07:45like they were in the backfield all day getting TPLs and everything, making Darnold feel uncomfortable, getting, getting him off
07:51his spots.
07:52And you go to the stats, Darnold walked into this one when pressured this year, eight for 26, a 30
07:59.8 completion rate, 132 yards in two interceptions and a 16.8 passer rating.
08:05A lot of numbers. I get that, but I can guarantee you all those numbers went down today as well.
08:10Like Darnold looked like a guy who was ready to throw up on the field. I'm going to give you
08:15this one. Here's the interception.
08:17It's like, it's coming. It's ready to happen. And even at a halftime, when you can go to your adjustments,
08:24you can talk to your coaching staff, talk to your receivers, get things aligned.
08:28He walks out of the game, throws it right back to green. Now, San Francisco's offense couldn't answer or respond,
08:36but Darnold was bad today.
08:38He was a big difference in the Seahawks winning and losing. And both times this year, Seattle has lost against
08:45the commanders and now San Francisco.
08:47He's thrown two picks. When he is bad, the Seahawks aren't just beatable. They are 0-2. They are a
08:57bad team.
08:58The offense has no momentum. It's so JSN focused. They can't run the football. And Darnold cannot be relied upon
09:05to be the guy he was last year.
09:06Absolutely. And there's obviously a known thing that they don't lose if they win the turnover battle, that team.
09:14I don't think they've lost a game when they've won the turnover battle under Mike McDonald.
09:19And so when we get that turnover to start the game and then Cowan gives it back to them, I
09:28mean, I was just screaming because it's so critical in games against that team to not make huge mistakes like
09:37that.
09:37Right. Obviously, allowing explosive plays are a mistake, but it's a mistake that's going to happen in a game.
09:43You're not going to hold a team that's that good to know explosive plays. Right.
09:47It's limiting explosive plays like that. But muffing a punt is those are mistakes that you cannot survive through against
09:55great teams usually.
09:56Exactly. And luckily for Jacob Cowan, the defense had his back today.
10:01And I mean, we're going to get into it on the other side, but the defense had his back as
10:07far as the turnovers go today.
10:09And I mean, turning getting turnovers for this team is something that they've lacked in the last couple of years,
10:14frankly.
10:16Well, they had it took them like to like week eight last year to get an interception like Stout High
10:22went against Jacksonville, but it got called back for for holding our DPI, whatever it was.
10:26And it was like, oh, my God. And this team was playing Ben, don't break every drive because they couldn't
10:30get the football back. Right.
10:32Whereas this year they get four or four takeaways in this game alone, including a strip sack fumble in the
10:38end zone like this defense.
10:40And look, it would be different if it was just Fred and Dre out there making plays or just Demo.
10:47It's young dudes making plays. It's Osa Digazua, who was brought over from Dallas for a third round draft pick.
10:53It's Grayson Halden getting sacks and strip sack fumbles in the end zone and scoring his first touchdown of his
10:58career.
10:59He has more touchdowns than stripling does. Who would have thought that to be in the season? Right.
11:04Like it's Sebastian Valdez, a big sack early in this game, too, to stop a drive.
11:08It's a lot of young dudes green out there getting two interceptions.
11:11It's young dudes having career days against big opponents.
11:15And that's what makes Seattle so special. They got Leonard Williams.
11:19Sure. But it's Byron Murphy on the come up last year, making big plays.
11:23It's Eman Worry as a rookie, annihilating opposing offenses.
11:27San Francisco has been looking for that vaunted front, those vaunted defensive players for a long time since 2019.
11:33When they haven't brought those guys in, right? They may have some of those dudes now.
11:38Halden looks fantastic. That dude looks like a star in the making.
11:43Yeah.
11:44I know we're talking about Mike L, and he had a big play today late in the game, too.
11:47But Halden looks like the star they have been wanting since they let Buckner go via trade.
11:53That dude is a monster on the interior.
11:56I don't care if Collins is back.
11:57I don't care if West is healthy.
11:59They're not playing over Grayson Halden right now.
12:02Their best defensive line is Michael Williams, Osa Adigazua, Grayson Halden.
12:07And when Nick Bosa comes back, plug the bear in there, too.
12:11That is your starting four on the defensive line.
12:13That is a bunch of dudes that should terrify the offensive line they're going against.
12:18Because all those dudes can get home, get sacks, and today, more importantly, get takeaways in big moments.
12:24Yeah. I mean, and also, like, let's give Keon White some credit.
12:26I think he's been really good.
12:28I mean, for what you traded for him, he's been fantastic.
12:31Let's call it what it is.
12:32Yep.
12:32You know, I'm not comparing this at all to talent-wise or anything, but it kind of reminds me of
12:38that Philadelphia D-line from two or three years ago where they had, like, 90 sacks.
12:42You know what I mean?
12:44But they did not have kind of one premier guy.
12:48So, like, you know, we have Nick Bosa.
12:50He's kind of our big, you know, highly paid defensive end.
12:54That was kind of a D-line by committee, right?
12:56They had Hassan Redick, who was maybe the anchor of that D-line.
13:00Really, really good player, obviously.
13:01But he wasn't a Max Crosby world beater or, you know, a Will Anderson or anything like that.
13:07That was a D-line where, you know, you had Hargrave.
13:09You just had so many guys.
13:11And they were just so deep.
13:13And they got to the quarterback because it was just four really good players.
13:17And it feels like this 49ers D-line, I mean, we've been saying it's decimated, and it is.
13:23But they're picking up guys and they're plugging them in that are being effective.
13:28Let's call it what it is.
13:29I mean, they're not star players by any means.
13:31But it's been very effective.
13:32And Raheem Morris, what he's been doing with the guys and the stunts and whatnot he's drawn up have been,
13:37I think, amazingly effective this season.
13:40Well, I think, too, it's not just them finding guys off the scrap heap and plugging them in.
13:45It's not your Khalid Kareem's.
13:47It's not your Matthew Judon's who got cut before the game began.
13:50It's young players making instant impacts.
13:53And San Francisco hasn't had that since 2019.
13:56It's not your DJ Jones, your Dre Greenlaws, and guys like that.
13:59It's been a bunch of veteran, one-year free agent guys.
14:03Maybe it's a big splash signing.
14:04It doesn't pan out.
14:05Now you have a fourth-round draft pick who looks like a star.
14:09It's a UDFA of two years ago making a big play in the big moment, right, in Sebastian Valdez.
14:14It's Keon White for a sixth-round draft pick last year, which no one liked the move.
14:18That's all you did?
14:19Thank God they made that trade.
14:21He is saving one side of their edge-rushing core right now.
14:26He's been phenomenal through five games this year, and it looks like their best edge-rusher
14:30without Bosa being on the field.
14:32But then you plug in Mikel's return, Heights back.
14:34This is a very young Niners defensive line being asked to anchor against that Seahawks offense
14:41with JSN, who won the Super Bowl last year.
14:44It's not the same.
14:45Sure, they can't run the football fine, but that's a young defense that's being asked of a lot.
14:50And they constantly, almost every single drive, are finding ways to hold opponents to three points,
14:57force a punt, or take away, and in big moments, just not blink.
15:02And when you grow up fast in the NFL, that's when you see windows jump wide back open again.
15:08And I'm here to tell you, folks, San Francisco's window is wide open again with how they're playing right now.
15:14Absolutely.
15:15Let's go back to the phones.
15:16Let's sneak one in here before the break.
15:18Joe in San Jose.
15:20Joe, what's going on, man?
15:22You're on overtime.
15:24Hey, what's going on?
15:25I have no dog in the fight.
15:27I don't like the Niners, but I love football.
15:29Here's the two things.
15:32One, there's not a DB in the league that can jump with Mike Evans and block the ball, intercept the
15:39ball, or even, well, you can tackle him, but you're not going to block it.
15:43Once he gets his mitts on it, it's a wrap.
15:46So that's, you know, that's a secret weapon, basically.
15:50You can't stop it, so we're just going to keep stuffing it down your throat.
15:55And number two, last night we went to a wedding.
15:58I got in my suit and everything, and I looked in the mirror, and I go, damn, I look good.
16:04And my daughter walks by, and she goes, that's what Brock Purdy does when he's home alone.
16:10That's just a little joke.
16:12That's just a little joke I had to throw out there.
16:14She walks by, and she goes, yeah, that's what Brock Purdy does when he's alone.
16:17I'm damn good.
16:19So it is what it is, man.
16:21Let's see if they bring it home.
16:23Thanks for the call, Joe.
16:25And that's a non-biased fan.
16:27You like that, Sterling?
16:29I love that.
16:30Yeah, me too.
16:31I got to give a shout-out to somebody, Joseph Earnberg, who is a listener of my podcast,
16:38had said San Francisco will be undefeated by the bye week.
16:42And I said, oh, they're going to drop one of these games.
16:44They just have to, right?
16:45I want to give him credit right now on the air.
16:48He called it from the beginning, week one, and said,
16:50I believe San Francisco will be undefeated by the bye week.
16:54They have to go to the Commanders.
16:56Got to beat an underrated Falcons team.
16:58But they're two games away, I believe.
17:00And I don't think anybody would have thought being 7-0 by the bye week was likely.
17:05Maybe you thought, oh, you know, 4-3, 5-2.
17:08They'll be in a good spot.
17:09The Niners right now are undefeated through five games.
17:13The last time they did this, Super Bowl.
17:15Time before that, Super Bowl.
17:17They got to win the big one, obviously.
17:19But when you're 5-0, you are setting yourself up for a lot of success down the road.
17:23Sterling, now you need to apologize to that guy from your podcast because you just jinxed it.
17:27I'm sorry, Joseph.
17:28Now we're going to drop one of the Commanders.
17:30Knock on wood.
17:31Knock on wood.
17:32God.
17:33I'm Carter Chickering.
17:34That's Sterling Bennett.
17:36Niner Nation, what a win.
17:39Just unbelievable.
17:40One of the best wins in Kyle Shanahan's tenure during the regular season.
17:44I think there's no doubt.
17:46I mean, we want to hear your calls, your texts.
17:49The number is 888-957-9570.
17:53We'll be right back after these messages.
