Godzilla Minus Zero’s FINAL trailer has just released, and it is INSANE. We get a new look at Godzilla, some absolutely haunting imagery, a better look at the overarching story and its themes, and yes, we see the devastating impact led by GHIDORAH. There's a lot to unpack so let's get to it!

00:00godzilla minor zero's final trailer has just released and it is insane we get a new look
00:07at godzilla some absolutely haunting imagery a better look at the overarching story and its
00:13themes and yes we see the devastating impact led by Ghidorah jesus christ welcome home residents
00:20it's your mate Alistair back again to break down what is said to be the final trailer for godzilla
00:25minor zero now you know the drill we'll examine the footage shot by shot and try to discern what
00:31we can from the story now i definitely didn't overreact to any part of this trailer what of
00:36course we're aware that some of you might have already seen it thanks to the film festivals
00:40which me and jacob think is kind of a dumb way to release a film but the benefits is it's
00:45receiving
00:46overwhelming critical acclaim which is only getting fans and the general audience more hyped and if
00:52this trailer has anything to say about it those reviews are absolutely right because this looks
00:57incredible let's not waste any more time let's break down that trailer
01:04the trailer wastes no time getting started as the first thing we see is godzilla in his new evolved
01:10design notice the more spiky protrusions larger more bulky arms and smaller more boxy head across
01:17his body we see what looks to be burns which were only seen whenever godzilla used his atomic breath
01:23ability in minus one so this could just be a result of him utilizing his most powerful ability
01:28however they could also be scars following a battle against the devil with three heads
01:36next up we get some really haunting imagery because it looks to be set inside a hospital post-attack
01:43where a physician called dr ogata played by june kunemara is seen sprinting up the stairs to
01:49action this is especially haunting because it's clearly meant to play off the real imagery of the
01:54hiroshima and nagasaki bombings where hospitals were flooded with patients covered in horrific burns
02:00similar scenes were also seen in the 1954 original designed to draw a clear connection between godzilla as
02:07a metaphor for the use of nuclear weapons so it's interesting they look to draw that connection again
02:12here which seems really fitting for a film set mere years after the actual attack dr ogata is heard
02:19speaking over the footage and he says hundreds of people were filling up the hospital that day
02:24and that he can say with absolute certainty those patients would have died potentially speaking
02:30without their assistance intercut with the eerie narration we get to see koichi noriko and akiko
02:36looking happy together taking a stroll down matsumoto city as a family looking forward to the future
02:43with hope after defeating godzilla and laying his soul to rest at the bottom of the ocean but little
02:48did they know their nightmare is only about to get worse next we see koichi in action in his fighter
02:55plane
02:55observing the horrors of something completely alien we see houses lifted up into the air by some kind of
03:02anti-gravitational force people helplessly stuck inside screaming for help that would never come
03:08and to make matters worse she's even holding a baby just to emphasize how fast this likely all went down
03:15they had no time to escape and then they come crashing back down to the ground highlighting just
03:21how devastating this ability can be when used then we see noriko gazing out at something from a train
03:27with everyone else looking towards the same direction she doesn't have the best look in
03:32trains so hopefully it's not godzilla or perhaps even something worse we next get a look at kenji
03:38noda the man responsible for devising the plan to stop godzilla in minus one alongside his team of
03:44experts given the two opposing kaiju now wrecking havoc they appear to be on the ginza clock tower
03:50surveying the destruction around them considering their visibly shocked and injured state this scene may take
03:56place in the aftermath of godzilla's devastating fall to earth following his confrontation with
04:01gidora we get some more reaction shots of the actors including min tanaka as kanji murakami a war
04:08haunted biologist and scientist who worked alongside dr kenji noda in japan's large-scale disaster response
04:14bureau to research and combat the kaiju and makota ayama played by masami nagasawa a brilliant meteorologist
04:22and weather forecaster working alongside kenji we then see civilians running from some oncoming disaster
04:28now this looks to also be matsumoto city so could koichi noriko and akiko be stuck in the heart of
04:36a
04:36gidora attack we then see this frantic imagery of evacuations taking place as everyone panics to outrun
04:43gidora's deadly gravity beams yamazaki has stated that spielberg's war of the worlds was actually an
04:49inspiration four minus zero and i can definitely see that here with the way it's shot from the
04:55human perspective as they can only run helplessly against the unstoppable unknowable extraterrestrial
05:01force this whole scene just looks absolutely terrifying and of course we hear his call
05:09shrouded by the clouds only making his presence all the more horrifying i mean i hear godora i don't see
05:15him though um which i guess a good thing we see more of godora's gravity beam attack where the bolt
05:21tears up the very ground the characters stand on sending them hurtling we then see koichi sitting
05:26beside what appears to be a new character who admits i'm so scared i can't stand it this line
05:33seems to directly tie in with the themes of minus one exploring how trauma and fear can become
05:38debilitating particularly for those who have already endured the horrors of godzilla's destruction
05:44we then get a look at what appears to be a makeshift hospital with injured civilians packed
05:49into an overcrowded emergency shelter it looks as though a town hall or similar public building
05:54has been converted into a temporary medical facility to cope with the mass casualties following
06:00gidora's attack the scene invokes some hauntingly familiar imagery from the original 1954 godzilla which
06:06also depicted overwhelming hospitals struggling to cope with the devastation left in the monster's wake
06:12we hear makoto talking about how she's the one that proposed the plan as we see kanji looks
06:17mortified potentially as their plan has failed and we even see her resonance well which is german for
06:24resonance wave which is a scientific instrument designed for monitoring electromagnetic or resonant
06:29frequencies and if it's moving it likely means gidora is close by we get another look at gidora's
06:36anti-gravity abilities which are now emitting a striking blue glow interestingly i suspect this
06:42could be the result of gidora evolving and absorbing dna from the most powerful creature on earth
06:48godzilla himself this may explain why its abilities have taken on a cherenkov like blue coloration
06:55suggesting that godzilla's influence has fundamentally altered the way gidora's powers manifest and then
07:02zap gidora unleashes its gravity beams directly into the building sending chunks of concrete raining
07:08down onto the terrified onlookers below what i find particularly interesting is that gidora appears
07:14to be deliberately targeting the humans caught up in the chaos why would it bother with such tiny
07:19creatures when it's locked into a battle with godzilla perhaps these characters are having a significant
07:25impact on the fight or maybe gidora actually has disdain for humanity and sees them as another
07:31obstacle to eliminate and it's insane that even without any monsters something like this is
07:37arguably one of the most terrifying things i've seen in a godzilla film and there isn't even a single
07:42monster in this frame just imagine hundreds of tons of concrete raining down onto your position that
07:49would be absolutely catastrophic before we continue we'd appreciate it if you subscribed only 65
07:55if you were subbed and we know exactly who you are so subscribe already there's so much godzilla
07:59stuff coming and you don't want to miss it we then get this absolutely gorgeous shot of godzilla
08:05swimming through the ocean his dorsal plate slicing through the water in that classic king of the
08:09monsters fashion the sunset in the background gives the whole scene a surprisingly hopeful atmosphere
08:14almost as though we're looking at the ending of the film with godzilla finally swimming away
08:20after coming to terms with the world that has caused him so much pain of course that's purely
08:24speculation he could just as easily be approaching the city to engage in another devastating battle
08:30it's difficult to say for certain but the shot certainly leaves you wondering what godzilla's
08:34ultimate fate will be at the end of the film we then see koichi in his fighter plane witnessing another
08:41that appears to be going down likely following this encounter with gidora where its gravity beams split
08:47the wings in half sending him hurtling to the ground we then see koichi and noriko sharing a particularly
08:53serious moment seemingly coming to terms with the possibility that stopping these attacking kaiju
08:58may require them to make some truly devastating sacrifices the accompanying text which reads a
09:04forced choice suggests that they may be facing a decision they feel they have no alternative but to
09:09make if they're going to win this fight we then hear koichi remark that it always comes down to this
09:15a weapon designed for killing this feels like a significant line potentially hinting at the development of a
09:21new bomb with catastrophic destructive potential drawing clear parallels to the nuclear weapons
09:27that have defined godzilla's history given the franchise's long-standing exploration of humanity's
09:32relationship with nuclear power i suspect minus era could once again force its characters to confront
09:38the horrifying costs of using such a weapon even when they believe there's no other way to survive
09:43we then see the kawanishi h8k which was previously seen in this now iconic shot of godzilla
09:49breaching the water but what is that behind them it's none other than godzilla right on their tail
09:55his dorsal plate about to collide with the plane this tells me that they plan to lure godzilla towards
10:01godora in order to force them to fight which in previous trailers was described as fighting fire with
10:08fire following this we see what appears to be a blimp or rather a flotation device likely used to assist
10:14with the scientific instruments in tracking godora and then it's obliterated right out of the sky by
10:20his gravity beam and i just love how defined each bolt is there's just so much detail in the attack
10:26it just looks incredible and then godzilla begins charging up his atomic breath with his dorsal plates
10:32rising into position like a gun loading its next devastating shot we also get a much better look at his
10:38tail here
10:39and i absolutely love the almost stegosaurus like thagomizers running along the top they give his tail
10:45an even more dangerous silhouette and i can easily imagine those spikes being absolutely devastating in
10:50close cause combat we then get a rapid succession of shots showcasing the sheer scale of the carnage
10:56including an injured tatsuo hota the kawanishi h8k engulfed in flames and several characters who after
11:03enduring so much suffering appeared to have almost completely lost hope there's a real sense of
11:08desperation running through these moments as though the relentless destruction has finally
11:13pushed these people to their breaking points and then we end on akiko seemingly praying for the safe
11:19return of her adoptive parents it's a heartbreaking image especially when you consider everything this
11:24little girl has already been through while the adults around her are struggling to find a way forward
11:28akiko's quiet prayer feels like one of the few remaining glimmers of hope in an increasingly bleak
11:34situation it's a powerful note to end on reminding us exactly what koichi and noriko have to fight for
11:40before we get the title card godzilla minus zero which even comes with its own revelation the logo is
11:48actually akiko praying because she is the heart of the film itself reminding us what the characters are
11:54really fighting for but wait godzilla's dorsal plates snap into place and he unleashes his devastating
12:01atomic breath with his newly evolved far more powerful form one can only imagine the sheer scale of the
12:07explosion that's about to follow if his previous atomic breath was anything to go by this upgraded
12:12attack could unleash an absolutely catastrophic level of destruction that would flatten what's left of
12:18ginza i've bought 400 tickets already i was not expecting this with the film right around the
12:29corner i thought they might reuse most of the footage we already have for this short final trailer but
12:34instead they went all out showing us just how devastating haunting action-packed dramatic and tense this
12:41film will be yet it doesn't feel like they've spoiled too much either and they still haven't shown
12:46godora's new design which i really have to applaud them for people already know godora's in it but
12:52give them something to be surprised about when they go see it on the big screen for the first time
12:56it's honestly a shining example of a great trailer something that makes you want to go watch it without
13:01giving too much away something the monsterverse shouldn't take note of they literally showed mothra
13:05dying in the trailer what were you thinking this really looks like it takes everything about minus one
13:10and ramps it up to the next level and i just cannot wait to see it but what did you
