00:00Join us on our Dangerville Discord, where we've been talking about this trailer for the past few hours now.
00:05The link will be in the description for you to join the conversation.
00:07We have cake as well.
00:10Welcome home, residents. It's your Mayor Alistair back again, and it's the day we've been waiting for.
00:15The trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero has officially arrived, and it delivers everything we could have hoped for.
00:21Action, drama, terrifying set pieces, and it even reveals the monster that Godzilla's going to go up against.
00:28That's right, Benjamin Netanyahu.
00:30No, it's obviously a returning classic monster, only Godzilla's most famous arch-nemesis, and the clues are littered throughout the
00:38trailer.
00:39So let's not waste any time, let's get to the breakdown.
00:43We start off the trailer with returning character Kenji Noda, played by Hidetaki Yoshioka, the man who came up with
00:49the plan to stop Godzilla in Minus One.
00:52However, as you can see here, he's looking up in horror, surrounded by the rubble of collapsed buildings.
00:59Something cataclysmic has gone down, meaning their plan has failed.
01:03And in the next shot, we see him.
01:05The king of the monsters rising out of the ocean, right alongside a sinking Japanese ship.
01:10This whole shot just looks really eerie, like the ghost of Godzilla is returning to haunt them.
01:15Though I wasn't sure if this was meant to be a flashback to the climax of the first film, but
01:20if you look closely, Godzilla does look a bit more spiky, which is in line with his new, more jagged
01:25design.
01:26So I'm pretty sure we're witnessing the rebirth of Godzilla in Minus Zero here.
01:32Which seems to initially be set in 1949, two years after the events of Minus One.
01:38Much to the dismay of the original team that helped put a stop to him in the first place, including
01:43Koichi Shikishima, played once again by Ryunosuke Kimiki.
01:47You saw it. Godzilla was blown to pieces, he says, as the memories of his trauma come flooding back to
01:53him.
01:53He thought he finally put that side of his life to rest, only for it to come back to haunt
01:58him.
01:58Next up, we see dozens of fleeing civilians, but what are they running from?
02:03Well, something big.
02:06Now this could be Godzilla, but as the trailer will indicate, he's not the only monster in this film.
02:12So it might be something else.
02:15And if you pause it at the right moment, doesn't that look a bit like eyes?
02:19Like giant monster eyes?
02:21To me that looks kind of like it could be Godzilla.
02:24I don't know, then maybe I'm going mental.
02:25Either way, these are some serious explosions.
02:28I'm really liking how it's all shot from the human perspective.
02:31It looks like you're running for your life alongside them.
02:34Something Takashi Yamazaki said was only possible thanks to a much higher budget this time around.
02:40Now we have something incredibly interesting, because we see this shard of Godzilla's scales,
02:45with the text saying it was collected in Ginza on May 16th, 1947.
02:50But one of the new characters, Professor Murakami, played by Min Tanaka, recommends fighting fire with fire.
02:58This immediately gives me Serizawa let them fight flashbacks.
03:02This can only mean they plan on using Godzilla to destroy this new invading kaiju.
03:07He even gives a little smirk, like this is something he's actually really excited to see happen.
03:12Which, to be fair, is all of us watching.
03:14The trailer also introduces us to a new character, Makato Aoyama, played by Nagasawa Masami.
03:21A genius weather forecaster, on loan from the meteorological agency to the large-scale disaster countermeasures office.
03:29Now her inclusion will make more sense later into the trailer,
03:33but her role is a very interesting one, as she wants to help with the plan to stop the monsters.
03:38The trailer also says there is no third time, which sounds like this could really determine the fate of the
03:44planet,
03:45and also, whether we get a third film.
03:48But, let's be serious, if it makes a boatload of cash, they're gonna make a third.
03:52Then we get this awesome shot of Godzilla's newly evolved design,
03:56with more bulky shoulders, more pronounced dorsal plates, and even new shoulder spikes.
04:01I honestly think it's a step up from his look in Minus One, which was already practically perfect.
04:07The trailer then shows us this mysterious new weapon, which could be an atomic bomb,
04:12but I'm willing to bet there's more to it.
04:14We've tried nukes before, and look where that goes.
04:17Then we get some more epic naval warfare, which I am so looking forward to,
04:21that is always the best part of any Godzilla film.
04:24But then we get Noriko, once again played by Miname Hamabe,
04:28revealing that she doesn't have much time left,
04:31and she's thinking about Akiko, because if Koichi falls defending Japan,
04:35she'll be left with no one.
04:37It seems that the black mark at the end of Minus One
04:39does seem to indicate that she has a disease from the exposure to Godzilla's atomic breath.
04:44Whether it's simply cancer, or something unidentified is unknown,
04:48but clearly that will be an emotional focal point in this film.
04:52With N.C. Kenji announcing the commencing of Operation Narukami,
04:56which literally translates to Thundering God,
04:59so if that doesn't give you enough hints of who this monster they're going up against is,
05:03then don't worry, even more is on its way.
05:06We witness Aoyama observing a map,
05:08and seemingly trying to predict how the weather will affect their mission.
05:11If you notice throughout the trailer,
05:13the weather seems to have a major focus,
05:16with it being this overcast stormy day in several scenes.
05:19So it seems that she's deliberately orchestrating their mission to align with the storms,
05:23and the reason why it will become clear in just a minute.
05:27And this next shot is absolutely insane.
05:30But while you're here,
05:32be sure to subscribe and stomp the notification button.
05:3465% of you aren't subbed,
05:36so do it, or else Godzilla's gonna blast you.
05:40And now we get this absolutely insane shot,
05:44because up to this point,
05:45the entire trailer has been presented in widescreen,
05:48but suddenly,
05:49the aspect ratio opens up,
05:51revealing just how wide the IMAX cinematography is going to be.
05:55We see this incredible shot of a plane,
05:57which I believe is a Kawanishi H-8K flying boat,
06:00soaring over the ruins of a completely destroyed city.
06:04I can't even determine where this is supposed to be,
06:06because just look at it.
06:08The entire city has been flattened,
06:11there's practically nothing left for miles.
06:13And honestly,
06:14it's a pretty devastating image.
06:16But as the plane flies towards the screen,
06:18the aspect ratio expands,
06:20revealing the full scale of the IMAX frame in all its glory.
06:24And wow,
06:26this film is going to look absolutely insane.
06:29And remember,
06:29this is the first Japanese production ever filmed specifically for IMAX.
06:34If any film deserves to make that claim,
06:36it's the king of the monsters.
06:38And then we get the money shot,
06:40Godzilla roaring in the middle of this ruined city.
06:43Just look at how incredible this looks.
06:46Godzilla's design,
06:48the apocalyptic landscape,
06:49and what is going on with Godzilla here?
06:52He looks like he's been burned?
06:54And I don't think humans could have done this.
06:56It could only be the result of another kaiju of equal power.
07:00Next up,
07:01we see some jets led by Koichi that seem to be engaging with Godzilla.
07:05However,
07:06based on the setup for the film,
07:08I don't think they're trying to attack him,
07:10but rather lead him towards this other monster to fight fire with fire.
07:15Or as Serizawa would put it,
07:17let them fight.
07:18Somehow,
07:18Aoyama can sense this other monster is coming,
07:21but considering she's a genius meteorologist,
07:24she can likely sense even the tiniest of changes in the air,
07:27which includes the electrical charges that come from storms,
07:30and even other giant monsters.
07:33Especially those with electrical abilities.
07:35And we get this sick ass shot of Godzilla rising out from under the city.
07:39Could he be tunneling through the ground?
07:41Or was he put there in battle and this is him recovering?
07:45Let us know what you think in the comments below.
07:48Now,
07:48we get our first proper look at this attacking monster in the film,
07:51where we see this bright yellow electrical charge that fires on one of these jets,
07:56scraping one of its wings,
07:57no doubtly taking it down.
07:59And it even eviscerates this object in the sky,
08:02that I can't really tell if it's a blimp,
08:05or possibly a weather balloon,
08:06or something else.
08:07Either way,
08:08it's completely obliterated.
08:10Now,
08:11there's only one thing in the Godzilla series that has beams like that.
08:14The devil with three heads.
08:17Ghidorah.
08:18But if you're still not convinced somehow,
08:20there's still more to come.
08:21We also start to see more abilities that could potentially be connected to Ghidorah.
08:26In this shot,
08:27entire buildings appear to be lifted into the air by some kind of anti-gravitational force.
08:32Something we've actually seen associated with Ghidorah before.
08:36His beams have been shown lifting and throwing surrounding structures,
08:39and hell,
08:40they're literally called gravity beams.
08:42So the idea of Ghidorah manipulating gravity isn't exactly new.
08:47But then we have these strange energy-based tendrils emerging from the ground.
08:51Which makes me wonder if there's something more going on here.
08:54Could Ghidorah be manipulating the Earth's natural magnetic fields
08:58to generate this effect and lift the buildings?
09:01What I have the most questions about though,
09:03is the color.
09:04Why are you blue?
09:05Ghidorah's abilities have traditionally been associated with the iconic yellow energy.
09:10So why does this appear to be blue?
09:12Could Ghidorah be absorbing Godzilla's radiation,
09:15allowing him to grow larger and more powerful,
09:18and in the process,
09:20causing his own abilities to change color?
09:23It's impossible to say for sure right now,
09:25but if that's what's happening,
09:27it could explain a lot about what we're seeing in these shots.
09:30Either way,
09:31with this whole anti-gravitational ability,
09:33I personally think that Ghidorah's origins come from space.
09:37This is not something an Earth-based creature can do.
09:40He just has to be extraterrestrial in nature.
09:42But that's just my guess though.
09:44But we do see some more epic scenes of these electrical beams,
09:47with this terrifying shot as these survivors run for their lives,
09:51as their city is obliterated around them.
09:54And we even get some Apocalypse Now levels of explosions here too.
09:58I love the smell of napalm in the morning.
10:00Chances are Ghidorah is somewhere behind those explosions.
10:03Just let me see it.
10:04Come on, come on.
10:05Just, just a little bit.
10:06Just, just let me see it a little bit.
10:07And then, Ghidorah's call.
10:11Which seemingly confirms that, yes,
10:13Ghidorah will be one of the main antagonists of Godzilla Miner Zero.
10:18And this completely reframes everything we've seen in the trailer so far,
10:22especially when it comes to Aoyama,
10:24and why she could be such a pivotal character in the film.
10:28Her expertise in meteorology could allow her to predict when these extreme storms are going to hit.
10:33And that's important because these massive geological storms
10:36could potentially disrupt the Earth's magnetic field.
10:40If Ghidorah's powers are tied to magnetism,
10:42that could give the humans, and Godzilla, a crucial advantage.
10:46When the magnetic field is disrupted, Ghidorah's abilities could begin to falter,
10:52creating the perfect window for them to finally strike.
10:55And to close off this trailer, we get this absolute banger of a shot,
10:59with Godzilla falling to Earth after most likely being picked up and dropped by Ghidorah.
11:04Full-on King of the Monsters style.
11:07This may in fact be the reason we see him rising out of the rubble in that earlier shot,
11:11ready to fight again.
11:14Godzilla Minus Zero, coming November 6th.
11:17What an absolutely incredible trailer.
11:20It looks to promise everything fans could hope for from a Godzilla film.
11:24Action, drama, horror, and it seems to have stepped up in almost every factor.
11:29This is no doubt thanks to the increased budget from Toho,
11:33allowing Yamazaki to have more of everything.
11:35More scenes of destruction, more kaiju action,
11:38and go places with the human characters he wasn't able to do before.
11:41There are still a lot of unanswered questions,
11:44like what exactly is going on with Noriko?
11:47What does Ghidorah look like?
11:48Where did he come from?
11:50Where did he go?
11:50Where did he come from?
11:51Cotton Eye Joe.
11:52And what will happen to both monsters in the end?
11:54If Godzilla defeats Ghidorah,
11:56will they have to come up with another plan to take him down?
11:59Or will their fire-against-fire plan
12:01lead to the deaths of both Ghidorah and Godzilla
12:04in a moment of mutually assured destruction?
12:07We'll have plenty more videos going over what we think will happen,
12:10so be sure to subscribe to keep up to date with all that here at Dangerville.
12:14Let us know in the comments what you think about Ghidorah returning.
12:16Are you hyped?
12:17Or do you wish it was another monster?
12:19And be sure to give this video a big old Kong-sized thumbs up,
12:22because it helps the algorithm and all that.
