00:02The next generation of Godzilla Kaiju has just been revealed, and some of these things are absolutely insane.

00:09The new monster election has introduced 8 original Kaiju candidates, designed by legendary Japanese FX studio Shiragumi, who won the

00:17Oscar for Best VFX in Minus One.

00:19But only one will come out on top, as the public are given the votes, and the number one monster

00:24will be seen in 2027's Godzilla Fest Shore film,

00:28as they do battle against burning Millennium Godzilla.

00:31Throughout the years, Godzilla is facedown against Hedorah, Gigan, Jet Jaguar, and even Ghidorah.

00:38And this year, Godzilla is finally going to do battle with Monster X, the alien Kaiju from Godzilla Final Wars,

00:46and the predecessor to Kaiser Ghidorah.

00:49Monster X has always had a seriously badass design, and considering this will be the first time we've seen the

00:55character in live action for 22 years,

00:57seeing in battle burning Godzilla is going to be a huge moment for fans of the monster, myself included.

01:04Which begs the question, will we just not see Monster X transform into Ghidorah with this short?

01:10Will he just be defeated or retreat from the battle to fight another day?

01:14We'll find out on November 3rd.

01:16But next year, we'll see Godzilla fight this new monster, which fans get to vote into existence.

01:22And I definitely have some opinions, so I'll be ranking each of them from S to F.

01:28Some of them are genuinely awesome, others... I don't really know what they were thinking.

01:33So, let's dive right in.

01:39First off, let's take a look at GigaSecto.

01:42An insect monster that has been slumbering beneath the Amazon rainforest for 65 million years.

01:48After absorbing nutrients from an immense period as a larva, it grew to a colossal size and pupated.

01:55Driven by a powerful combat instinct, GigaSecto sensed a presence even stronger than itself, Godzilla.

02:02This prompted its evolution into a mature adult with a tough exoskeleton, and it has now emerged on the surface.

02:10From its claws, which serve for both predation and attack, it fires a vacuum blade that tears through space-time

02:17at the speed of sound.

02:18Its destructive power is immense, capable of slicing 50 large oil tankers in half in an instant.

02:24Even a near-miss is enough to shatter surrounding buildings.

02:28Now, I actually quite like this design. It's like if Megalon and Bagan had a baby.

02:33It's simple, and looks like it fits pretty well with the established design language of Godzilla.

02:38And interestingly, its horns even look to be based off a samurai, giving it a distinct and deeply cultural identity.

02:45I do like this one, so I'm going to put this in B-tier rank.

02:50Next up is Gilx, a ferocious and malevolent space monster that has been attacking and destroying planets since ancient times.

02:59It consumes not only natural resources like gas and minerals, but also all forms of energy, light, heat, and electricity,

03:07turning planets into dead stars.

03:09After annihilating countless worlds, Gilx sensed an unprecedentedly massive power source from Earth.

03:16The immense energy within Godzilla.

03:19It has flown to Earth to prey on Godzilla's power and the planet's natural resources.

03:24Now, to me, this feels a lot like an endgame-level threat, something that might actually have a chance at

03:29taking down the king of the monsters.

03:31In terms of abilities, Gilx has a beam attack that fires from its mouth, after compressing the energy absorbed by

03:38the core in its horn.

03:39The nature and power of its attack changes based on the energy it's consumed.

03:43For example, absorbing heat results in a ray accompanied by high-temperature flames, while absorbing electricity adds a super-high

03:52-voltage shock.

03:53Gilx aims to absorb all of Godzilla's internal energy to complete its true bust array, a weapon powerful enough to

04:00potentially destroy the Earth.

04:02I like this one as well.

04:04It reminds me of Tsar Goro from Gigabash.

04:06Although the design is a bit busy, I don't think it needs two tails, and the protrusions are a bit

04:12much and hurt the general silhouette of the kaiju.

04:15So I'm sticking it in C-tier.

04:17With some slight modifications, it could easily move up.

04:21Next up, we have the mechanized giant Saggius, an amphibious, multi-legged drone carrier built to counter Godzilla by operating

04:29Mesa drones.

04:31Initially, it could only move on its legs, but an upper body was later added for close-quarters combat against

04:37Godzilla.

04:38Its centaur-like appearance, combined with its powerful guerrilla-type Mesa cannon, earned it the name Saggius, derived from Sagittarius.

04:46It now deploys to vanquish the threat to humanity, Godzilla.

04:50In terms of its most prominent attack move, it has the Mesa arrow, a powerful energy beam fired from its

04:57unfolding abdomen, also capable of wide-area scatter shots.

05:01It can also coordinate with its drones in a grid formation to create a pseudo-supersized Mesa cannon resembling a

05:09giant bow and arrow.

05:11By concentrating and resonating energy, it can amplify its attack power to the absolute maximum.

05:17I actually really like this design. Being essentially an aircraft carrier but for drones is an interesting concept, and having

05:25a new mech in the series is honestly something I'd like to see.

05:28Though it's hard to imagine how this thing will fight, I'd expect it to be super slow and lumbering and

05:33not the most fun thing to watch.

05:35But still, it looks cool and kind of reminds me of anime Mechagodzilla, so I'm sticking it in B-tier.

05:58Next up, we bizarrely head into Lovecraftian territory.

06:03Let me introduce Xenolhu, a bizarre lifeform that has appeared from another universe.

06:09It uses its octopus-like tentacles to grasp space itself, allowing it to move through the air.

06:16This spatial manipulation generates unknown psychic waves that cause hallucinations in any lifeform that it comes into contact with.

06:23Godzilla's powerful atomic breath possesses a similar psychic-like wave, which interfered with Xenolhu's world,

06:30piquing its interest and causing it to manifest into our dimension.

06:34Xenolhu has the ability to summon a giant evil eye.

06:38Those who are watched by the eye lose their own will in this extremely vicious attack.

06:44Once gazed upon, their target is subjected to overwhelming mental pressure, causing its body to rapidly weather and turn to

06:51ash.

06:52Now, this is just a super weird kaiju, but I actually really like it.

06:57It's probably joint first on my list with a kaiju you'll see later into this video.

07:01The giant evil eye is bizarre, but would be super interesting to see in the short.

07:05And I'd just like to see how this thing fights, with Godzilla having to defend himself against multiple attacking arms.

07:12Though I do hope it's on the agile side with the arms, I don't want them to be slowly floating

07:16around the place on string.

07:17I want it to really put up a fight against the king of the monsters, so I'm going to stick

07:22it in B-tier.

07:25Continuing our Lovecraftian journey, introducing Madoma, a lifeform that has existed on Earth since before recorded history.

07:33It possesses high intelligence and can subordinate surrounding lifeforms with a special frequency in its cry.

07:40Once reigning as the dominant being on the planet's surface, it later entered a periodic deep sleep, spending ages in

07:47a state of suspended animation at the bottom of the sea.

07:50However, it has reawakened after sensing the cause of the descendants of the creatures it once ruled.

07:56Believing itself to be the absolute sovereign, Madoma harbors a deep hatred for the humans who would knowingly run rampant

08:03on the surface.

08:04It now approaches Godzilla, intending to bring the equally powerful kaiju under its control.

08:09And just look at that design, that is literally just Cthulhu.

08:14So fans of the cosmic horror will probably be voting for this one.

08:17In terms of special abilities, Madoma has Great Spore.

08:21Two types of invasive weapons launch from its body.

08:24The first is a mutant spore that, upon piercing a living being, fuses with microbes and sprouts, turning the target

08:31into a subordinate.

08:32The second is an attack organism that burrows into the enemy's body and detonates internally.

08:38Both weapons can be activated by Madoma's command, making them terrifying internal weapons that can simultaneously destroy both body and

08:46mind once they have infiltrated a host.

08:49Which makes me wonder if this ability can take command of even Godzilla, turning him into a puppet for this

08:55ancient threat.

08:56It's honestly something that would be really cool to see, though I'm not a massive fan of his big beer

09:02belly.

09:02What's this guy been eating for thousands of years?

09:05I'm gonna put him in C tier.

09:07Not bad, I just prefer the ones in B tier right now.

09:11Now leaving Lovecraftian territory, next up we have Minakaius.

09:17A mechanical beast created by a civilization that existed before modern humanity.

09:22Originally built as a guardian deity to protect peace, it was repurposed as a weapon by the rulers of the

09:28time.

09:28Ultimately leading to that civilization's demise.

09:31Minakaius then fell into a long slumber, only to be reawakened after tens of thousands of years by the vibrations

09:38from modern weapons development experiments.

09:40At the same time, Godzilla also appeared in response to these vibrations.

09:45Minakaius mistakenly believes Godzilla is, like itself, a destructive weapon developed by humans, and sets out to defeat Godzilla as

09:53a warning to humanity.

09:55It has the ability to gather atmospheric radio waves into its body, amplifying them to an energy level far exceeding

10:02natural lightning, and then releases the charge from the tip of its horn.

10:06This focused discharge possesses enough power to completely incinerate any target.

10:12When the move is activated, it forcibly hijacks and converts radio waves used by devices like televisions and smartphones into

10:19energy,

10:20causing widespread secondary effects, such as temporary paralysis of communication networks, and electronic equipment in the vicinity.

10:28I hate this guy.

10:30Like, seriously, the design looks like a Pokemon.

10:33The backstory is cool, but the silhouette is just a mess.

10:36Especially from the front.

10:38Like, what is this thing?

10:39How does it even fight?

10:41I can't imagine Godzilla going up against this thing.

10:44It just does not look like it belongs in the Godzilla franchise.

10:47And for that reason, I'm sticking it in E-tier.

10:50Now we have personally my favorite, Rigido.

10:54A surviving ancient dinosaur that was slumbering in the polar ice.

10:58It was awakened by global warming and mutated into a monster by nuclear waste.

11:03When it first appeared, it only had one horn, and the research team that witnessed it called it Gerano.

11:10However, it subsequently underwent a dramatic evolution, its dorsal fins growing abnormally large, and its horns increasing to three.

11:18Transforming it into this complete form.

11:21Rigido can switch between bipedal and quadrupedal stances in battle, using the immense ramming power generated by its powerful body

11:29as a weapon to stand in Godzilla's way.

11:31In terms of special moves, it has something called Dino Trident, a technique where it jets energy from its back

11:38for rapid acceleration, then charges its target fiercely with its three horns like a spear.

11:44When this skill is activated, its horns and dorsal fins glow a burning red, and it smashes its target with

11:50overwhelming impact.

11:52And just look at this behemoth.

11:54It's like if Godzilla, Shimo, and Kong had a baby.

11:57I'm just a big fan of reptilian kaiju, and as a lover of dinosaurs, I really like how it's taken

12:02inspiration from Ceratopsians.

12:04It may look bland to some, but I like the simplicity of it.

12:08It has a unique design that stands out, a strong silhouette, and looks like it would be an absolute towering

12:13brute going up against the king of the monsters.

12:16I think the pink makes it look a bit much like Godzilla Evolved, but it's clear they were somewhat influenced

12:21by the new design.

12:22This one gets my votes, even if it's not perfect, so it goes in B tier.

12:28And finally, we have Candy Roy.

12:31I hate this little c**t, but let me go over its backstory.

12:35Originally a microbe attached to a meteorite from space, it reacted to waste on Earth.

12:41It accidentally absorbed a candy wrapper it first came into contact with, and underwent an abnormal evolution, growing to about

12:48one meter tall.

12:50Initially, Candy Roy was gentle, merely imitating children at play.

12:54However, it began absorbing the garbage and discarded items littering the planet, eventually swelling to a height of about 50

13:01meters.

13:02In its continuous search for more energy, it appeared before the mighty Godzilla, leading to an unexpected battle for survival.

13:10When Candy Roy raises its arm, some of the matter composing its body is particleized and extracted, forming an energized,

13:18blade-like shape.

13:19A powerful downward swing unleashes a potent shockwave that can inflict massive damage, even on distant targets.

13:26It can adjust its power attack based on the situation, from rapid fire strikes by alternating arms, to a one

13:33-hit-kill maximum output, released after charging particles to their limit by leaning its upper body far back.

13:40So, right off the bat, this is just a worse Hedorah.

13:43I'd have a hard time telling you the differences, to be honest.

13:46And that design is just ridiculous.

13:49It's got a chicken head like Gigan, but has a big eye in the middle of what you'd expect to

13:55be its mouth.

13:56It's got these flicky ears, and it's got these little hands that seem to be taken from excavators.

14:01And these silly little stumpy legs.

14:03It just looks so dumb.

14:04I do like how this looks like it came from the mind of an acid-tripping creature designer in the

14:0970s.

14:10Like, this seriously looks like something you'd see in Zone Fighter.

14:12But I just don't think it works against Millennium Godzilla.

14:16Maybe for a kids' show or something?

14:18But for this, I just do not want it coming anywhere near Godzilla.

14:22You're going in F-tier.

14:26Overall, I think there are some genuinely interesting new designs here.

14:30And I do appreciate finally getting to see new kaiju after what feels like an eternity.

14:35And while some of these designs have grown on me since my first reaction, which was that they were all

14:40horrible,

14:41I still think there are some major issues here.

14:44Godzilla fans have been starved for new monsters for a long time,

14:47but simply introducing new designs doesn't automatically make them good.

14:50I think a lot of these designs have potential and could be improved.

14:54While some of them frankly don't look like they belong in the Godzilla franchise at all.

14:58Godzilla monsters have traditionally incorporated some kind of recognizable natural or biological DNA into their designs,

15:05which gives them a sense of plausibility within the world of kaiju.

15:08That's part of what distinguishes them from much more overtly alien and abstract designs you see in something like Ultraman.

15:15There's absolutely nothing wrong with having designs that are distinctly different from that,

15:19but monsters like Anguirus, MegaGirus, Ghidorah and Rodan look far more recognizably like a Godzilla monster than something like Twintail.

15:27Which is a lot more fantastical and I'd argue dreamlike.

15:31You can be incredibly imaginative without completely abandoning the visual language that has historically made a Godzilla monster feel like

15:39a Godzilla monster,

15:40and turning your kaiju into just a straight up Pokemon.

15:43I think that having restraint and discipline can actually force you to be more creative and think outside the box,

15:49which is how we got some of the best designs in the franchise.

15:52Based on the fan reception online, it looks like those in the West really like Xenolhu, the Lovecraftian Terror.

15:59And honestly, I'd be cool with this one winning.

16:01It has a super cool backstory, and the design is unique and interesting,

16:05and will make for a standout opponent for this Godzilla.

16:09But those in Japan, from what I've seen, really like Rigido, and I'd also be cool with this one winning.

16:14I'll always root for the reptilian kaiju, and this one looks like a beefy Balgorat or Gamora, so I'd automatically

16:21like it.

16:21I'd honestly be fine with a few of these winning, like Gigasect or Sagius.

16:25I just need Candy Roy to lose.
