00:13This marks the first time this kaiju has been seen theatrically in live action since King of the Monsters 7

00:19years ago, or in Toho's case, for 22 years.

00:23Though his inclusion has been split amongst the community, with some thinking it's overused and would have preferred a more

00:30niche kaiju, while others are glad to see Godzilla's arch-nemesis returning once again.

00:35I'm Alistair and today we're going to dive into just how Ghidorah could work in the Minusverse, what it might

00:41look like, why it's so terrifying, and go over some new hints that seem to confirm his space origin.

00:49First off, the Godzilla Minus Zero trailer has been a huge success, garnering over 10 million views in 5 hours

00:57of release, which is more than some major Hollywood blockbusters.

01:00Across the major platforms, it now has nearly 40 million views, and you can't track the Instagram views, but based

01:08on the amount of likes it has, that's at least another 4-5 million, which is a good sign that

01:13tells us this film is going to be a massive success.

01:15I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it's the most successful Japanese Godzilla film by far, and one thing that has

01:22got people most hyped is, of course, Ghidorah.

01:26The prospect of Godzilla fighting another monster in a Touhou film for the first time in 22 years is an

01:32event that could be genuinely historic for Godzilla fans, but let's talk about Ghidorah.

01:46Now, Ghidorah has had various different origins throughout the Godzilla franchise, from an extraterrestrial bringer of death, to a Lovecraftian

01:54deity, and even a protective guardian.

01:56It's fair to say that despite having such a long history with the King of the Monsters, there's still plenty

02:01more ways they can explore this Kaiju and have it fit within the character.

02:05Now, we've previously covered theories of the origin of Minasuro Ghidorah, so we won't dwell on it much, but we

02:12have some new evidence that tells us exactly where this Ghidorah is from.

02:16Now, I've seen some crazy theories coming out, ranging from it being a creation from a mad scientist, to being

02:22a twisted mutation of another Godzilla.

02:25I've even seen some people discussing a supposed leak, suggesting that Ghidorah is created by Professor Murakami, from a piece

02:32of Godzilla's scales.

02:34But I can confidently say that this is fake. It's not true.

02:38That's because KDM, a known reliable insider who revealed major plot points of the previous MonsterVerse films, has once again

02:46given us this cryptic message.

02:48Using emojis like hieroglyphs, it shows lightning bolts, a hand pointing up, and then various celestial bodies.

02:55Now, I feel like this translates to Ghidorah from space, which sounds pretty cut and dry to me, revealing that

03:04the devil with three heads will be from beyond the stars in Minasuro.

03:09So I feel like we can finally put that evil scientist creation stuff to rest.

03:13Now, I've seen some people saying that Ghidorah wouldn't work in this more serious Minasverse, and while it's definitely serious,

03:19it's not exactly grounded.

03:21Godzilla himself had regen abilities even before the atomic bomb, and his powers were so strong that they went haywire

03:28recovering from his burns, which essentially turned him into this giant hulking titan we see in Minasuro and Minasuro.

03:35It also explains why he's even bulkier this time around.

03:38This isn't a universe that suddenly becomes less tangible just because there's a creature that comes from space.

03:44However, I don't think Ghidorah will just fall from space as a three-headed creature.

03:48I think this interpretation of Monster Zero will be drastically different than what we're used to.

03:53Perhaps a smaller bacterial lifeform or parasitic organism is mutated by the nuclear testing, and from this arises a dangerous

04:02new Kaiju.

04:03Why I really think Ghidorah works this way is that it blends the themes of nuclear fears and post-war

04:09tension with something known as cosmic horror.

04:14Cosmic horror isn't necessarily about something being scary because it's violent or monstrous.

04:18It's about encountering something so far beyond our understanding that we don't even have the framework to comprehend it.

04:25And imagine that happening to Japan in the years after World War II.

04:29You've got a country that has just experienced the most destructive war in human history.

04:33They've witnessed cities being leveled by conventional bombing.

04:36They've seen the unimaginable power of the atomic bomb.

04:39And they're only now just recovering from the devastating attacks of Godzilla.

04:44And then something comes down from space.

04:47Something that isn't a product of human science.

04:50Something that didn't evolve on Earth.

04:52Something that may have existed long before humanity ever looked towards the stars.

04:57The people witnessing Ghidorah wouldn't necessarily understand that they're looking at an alien being with some grand cosmic purpose.

05:03They'd simply see something completely outside the boundaries of their existence.

05:08Something that has arrived on Earth and possesses a level of power that humanity has absolutely no way of matching.

05:15Japan has already seen what happens when humans unleash power they don't fully understand.

05:19And Ghidorah would be something even more terrifying.

05:23It almost lines up with the novelization of War of the Worlds.

05:26Where the Martians arrived on Earth as a technologically superior species.

05:30And humanity simply isn't equipped to understand what he is seeing.

05:33Their machines, particularly their flying machines.

05:36Would have seemed completely incomprehensible to people who had never encountered anything like them before.

05:41I think Minocero could tap into that same feeling of the unknown with Ghidorah.

05:46To post-war Japan, an extraterrestrial Ghidorah is something completely outside their understanding.

05:53They wouldn't know where he came from, how he works, or even what he's capable of.

05:57But even from a thematic standpoint, being an extraterrestrial also works.

06:02Because he represents an alien power arriving from somewhere completely beyond Japan's understanding.

06:07Much like the overwhelming foreign military power that brought the war to its devastating conclusion.

06:13And introduced nuclear weapons of an almost incomprehensible scale.

06:17For the victims of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, there was no meaningful way to fight back against that kind of power.

06:23The weapon itself was beyond anything they had ever experienced or could have understood.

06:28Ghidorah embodies that same idea on a much larger scale.

06:31He is an alien power with an incomprehensible origin and a level of destruction that humanity has absolutely no hope

06:38of matching.

06:39Japan has already witnessed the terrifying consequences of power it cannot control.

06:43And now, something far beyond Earth arrives possessing an even greater power.

06:49And that's what makes the idea so frightening.

06:51It's the fear of encountering something so far beyond our understanding that we don't even know how to begin fighting

06:57it.

06:57So, even though I'd have liked to see another monster, I still absolutely think there's potential with Ghidorah returning here.

07:04To get a new perspective of the devil with three heads in a way we haven't had before.

07:10Which begs the question, what will Minus Ghidorah look like?

07:13I've seen a lot of people pointing out that because Minus Goju was inspired by the ride design, then so

07:19too will Ghidorah look like the one from the ride.

07:21However, this design is horrible.

07:25He's way too skinny and malnourish looking.

07:27And I think Toho knows fan reception has been less than stellar.

07:31As Minus One is a return to form for Godzilla, I feel like this may be a return to an

07:35even earlier form for Monster Zero.

07:38In the posters, we see multiple different colours on display.

07:42Yellow and blue.

07:43And while we initially believed these represented the colours of Godzilla and Ghidorah,

07:47the trailer throws that theory up in the air, because we see that Ghidorah even has blue anti-gravity abilities,

07:54as well as his gold gravity beams.

07:56So, what if this doesn't represent both monsters, but just Ghidorah?

08:01Now, hear me out.

08:02In some of the earliest studio tests for the monster, it appeared blue and yellow, with red, white and blue

08:09wings.

08:10Considering blue is now a part of his abilities, it makes sense that the colour will be incorporated into the

08:16design.

08:16With Yamazaki going back to the roots of Godzilla, we may also see Ghidorah appearing much more like the concept

08:22art for Ghidorah,

08:23with two legs that appear to drag the tails rather than supporting the whole body.

08:28Which, interestingly enough, is similar to how Shin Ghidorah was designed.

08:32We may have already even had our first vague look at Ghidorah's silhouette,

08:36because if we flip the logo, it looks a lot like a certain three-headed monster,

08:41featuring a large crest with horns, classical Asian dragon-like snout, and a large mane.

08:47Something that was found on the earlier iterations of Ghidorah,

08:50although this is likely simply suggestive rather than representing his final design.

08:54I believe the design is ultimately going to surprise us,

08:57especially since they seem to be deliberately hiding Ghidorah from the marketing and promotional material.

09:02And I think that could be directly tied to his origin,

09:05which may be unlike anything we've seen from Monster Zero before.

09:08Because if the idea that Ghidorah is a parasitic extraterrestrial

09:12that transforms as a result of nuclear testing,

09:15what would something like that actually look like?

09:18It could be completely twisted and unnatural.

09:20We'd be watching an alien organism mutate into something far beyond what it was originally meant to be,

09:26giving us a Ghidorah unlike anything we've seen before,

09:29with his bizarre appearance reflecting the equally bizarre way he came into existence.

09:34And honestly, if that's why they're hiding the design,

09:36I think the eventual reveal will be insane.
