00:17When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed, and does what is just and right, he will
00:26preserve his life.
00:30For I am aware of my rebellious acts, I am forever conscious of my sin.
00:39Hide your face from my sins, wipe away all my guilt.
00:47The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit, O God, a humble and repentant heart you will not reject.
01:01Dearly beloved brothers and sisters, the scripture moves us in sundry places to acknowledge and confess our many sins and
01:10wickedness.
01:12We should not justify nor hide them before the face of Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, but confess them with
01:20a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart.
01:24To the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:35Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly when we assemble and
01:43meet together,
01:44to give thanks for the great benefits we have received at his hands.
01:48To give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word, and to ask those things which are truly
01:57necessary as well for the body as the soul.
02:02Therefore I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart and humble
02:09voice to the throne of the heavenly grace, as we say together.
02:16Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.
02:23We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:29We have offended against your holy laws.
02:32We have failed to do those things which we ought to have done, and we have done things which we
02:39ought not to have done.
02:44But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable sinners.
02:49Spare those, O God, who confess their faults.
02:53Restore those who are truly penitent, according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord.
03:03Grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to
03:12the glory of your holy name. Amen.
03:18Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people, pardon and peace, that they may be cleansed from all
03:26their sins, and serve you with a quiet mind.
03:30Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
03:38Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.
03:43Your kingdom come, your will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
03:49Give us this day our daily bread.
03:52Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
03:59Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
04:05For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
04:15O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall sing out your praise.
04:23O God, make speed to save us.
04:27O Lord, make haste to help us.
04:33Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
04:39As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
04:45Amen.
04:48Praise the Lord.
04:51The Lord's name be praised.
04:57Psalm 126
05:00When the Lord restored the well-being of Zion, we thought we were dreaming.
05:05At that time we laughed loudly and shouted for joy.
05:09At that time the nation said,
05:11The Lord has accomplished great things for these people.
05:16The Lord did indeed accomplish great things for us.
05:19We were happy.
05:21O Lord, restore our well-being, just as the streams in the arid south are replenished.
05:29Those who shed tears as they plant will shout for joy when they reap the harvest.
05:35The one who weeps as he walks along, carrying his bag of seed, will certainly come in with a shout
05:41of joy, carrying his sheaves of grain.
05:46Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
05:51As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
05:57Amen.
06:03Psalm 127
06:06If the Lord does not build a house, then those who build it work in vain.
06:13If the Lord does not guard a city, then the watchman stands guard in vain.
06:20It is vain for you to rise early, come home late, and work so hard for your food.
06:27Yes, he provides for those whom he loves, even when they sleep.
06:33Yes, sons are a gift from the Lord.
06:36The fruit of the room is a reward.
06:41Sons born during one's youth are like arrows in a warrior's hand.
06:46How blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them.
06:50He will not be put to shame when they confront enemies at the city gate.
06:56Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
07:00As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
07:07Amen.
07:11Psalm 128
07:14How blessed is every one of the Lord's loyal followers, each one who keeps his commands.
07:21You will eat what you worked so hard to grow.
07:25You will be blessed and secure.
07:28Your wife will be like a fruitful vine in the inner rooms of your house,
07:33your children like olive branches as they sit around your table.
07:39Yes, indeed, the man who fears the Lord will be blessed in this way.
07:45May the Lord bless you from Zion,
07:47that you might see Jerusalem prosper all the days of your life,
07:52and that you might see your grand children.
07:55May Israel experience peace.
08:00Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
08:05As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
08:11Amen.
08:16Psalm 129
08:19Since my youth, they have often attacked me, let Israel say.
08:25Since my youth, they have often attacked me, but they have not defeated me.
08:30The plowers ploughed my back, they made their furrows long.
08:34The Lord is just, he cut the ropes of the wicked.
08:39May all who hate Zion be humiliated and turned back.
08:44May they be like the grass on the rooftops,
08:47which withers before one can even pull it up,
08:50which cannot fill the reaper's hand,
08:53or the lap of the one who gathers the grain.
08:57Those who pass by will not say,
09:00May you experience the Lord's blessing.
09:04We pronounce a blessing on you, in the name of the Lord.
09:10Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
09:15As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
09:19world without end.
09:21Amen.
09:26Psalm 130
09:28From the deep water I cry out to you, O Lord.
09:33O Lord, listen to me.
09:35Pay attention to my plea for mercy.
09:41If you, O Lord, were to keep track of sins, O Lord,
09:45who could stand before you?
09:48But you are willing to forgive, so that you might be honoured.
09:53I rely on the Lord.
09:55I rely on him with my whole being.
09:57I wait for his assuring word.
10:01I yearn for the Lord more than watchmen do for the morning.
10:06Yes, more than the watchmen for the morning.
10:10O Israel, hope in the Lord, for the Lord exhibits loyal love,
10:15and is more than willing to deliver.
10:17He will deliver Israel from all their sins.
10:22Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
10:27as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
10:32world without end.
10:34Amen.
10:39Psalm 131
10:43O Lord, my heart is not proud, nor do I have a haughty look.
10:48I do not have great aspirations, or concern myself with things that are beyond me.
10:56Indeed, I have calmed and quieted myself, like a weaned child with its mother.
11:02I am content, like a young child.
11:06Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
11:10as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
11:14world without end.
11:16Amen.
11:23The Book of Wisdom, Chapter 1
11:27Love, righteousness, all you who are judges of the earth.
11:32Think of the Lord with a good mind.
11:35Seek him in singleness of heart,
11:37because he is found by those who don't tempt him,
11:41and is manifested to those who trust him.
11:44For crooked thoughts separate from God.
11:49His power convicts when it is tested, and exposes the foolish.
11:55Because wisdom will not enter into a soul that plots evil, nor dwell in a body that is enslaved by
12:03sin.
12:05For a holy spirit of discipline will flee deceit, and will depart from thoughts that are without understanding,
12:15and will be ashamed when unrighteousness has come in.
12:20For wisdom is a spirit who loves man, and she will not hold a blasphemer guiltless for his lips,
12:27because God bears witness of his reigns, and is a true overseer of his heart, a hearer of his tongue.
12:37Because the Spirit of the Lord has filled the world, and that which holds all things together knows what is
12:44said.
12:46Therefore, no one who utters unrighteous things will be unseen,
12:51neither will justice, when it convicts, pass him by.
12:56For in his counsels the ungodly will be searched out.
13:00The sound of his words will come to the Lord, to bring his lawless deeds to conviction.
13:06Because a jealous ear listens to all things, and the noise of murmurings is not hidden.
13:14Beware then of unprofitable murmuring, and keep your tongue from slander,
13:20because no secret utterance will go on its way void, and a lying mouth destroys a soul.
13:33Do not court death in the error of your life,
13:38neither draw destruction upon yourselves by the works of your hands.
13:43Because God did not make death, neither does he delight when the living perish,
13:50for he created all things that they might have being.
13:54The generative powers of the world are wholesome.
13:57There is no poison of destruction in them, nor has Hades' royal dominion upon earth,
14:04for righteousness is immortal.
14:07But ungodly men by their hands and their words summon death.
14:12Deeming him a friend, they pined away.
14:16They made a covenant with him, because they are worthy to belong with him.
14:22This is the word of the Lord.
14:25Thanks be to God.
14:38Mary said,
14:39My soul exalts the Lord, and my spirit has begun to rejoice in God my Saviour,
14:46because he has looked upon the humble state of his servant.
14:52For from now on all generations will call me blessed,
14:57because he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.
15:03From generation to generation he is merciful to those who fear him.
15:09He has demonstrated power with his arm.
15:13He has scattered those whose pride wells up from the sheer arrogance of their hearts.
15:19He has brought down the mighty from their thrones,
15:22and has lifted up those of lowly position.
15:25He has filled the hungry with good things,
15:29and has sent the rich away empty.
15:32He has helped his servant Israel,
15:35remembering his mercy,
15:37as he promised to our ancestors,
15:40to Abraham,
15:41and to his descendants for ever.
15:45Glory be to the Father,
15:47and to the Son,
15:48and to the Holy Spirit,
15:49as it was in the beginning,
15:52is now,
15:53and ever shall be,
15:54world without end.
15:56Amen.
16:02The Gospel according to Saint Luke,
16:05chapter 19.
16:08While the people were listening to these things,
16:10Jesus proceeded to tell a parable,
16:12because he was near to Jerusalem,
16:15and because they thought the kingdom of God was going to appear immediately.
16:21Therefore he said,
16:22A nobleman went to a distant country to receive for himself a kingdom,
16:26and then return.
16:28He summoned ten of his slaves,
16:31gave them ten minas,
16:32and said to them,
16:34Do business with these until I come back.
16:40But his citizens hated him,
16:42and sent a delegation after him,
16:44saying,
16:45We do not want this man to be king over us.
16:50When he returned,
16:51after receiving the kingdom,
16:53he summoned the slaves to whom he had given the money.
16:56He wanted to know how much they had made,
16:59by trading.
17:01So the first one came,
17:02and said,
17:03Sir,
17:04Sir, your mina has made ten minas more.
17:06The king said,
17:08Well done, good slave.
17:09Because you have been faithful in a small matter,
17:12you will have authority over ten cities.
17:16Then the second one came,
17:17and said,
17:18Sir,
17:19your mina has made five minas.
17:21And so the king said to him,
17:23You are to be over five cities.
17:27Then another slave came and said,
17:30Sir,
17:31Here is the mina that I put away for safe keeping in a piece of cloth.
17:35For I was afraid of you because you are a severe man.
17:40You withdraw what you did not deposit,
17:42and you will reap what you did not sow.
17:46The king said to him,
17:48I will judge you by your own words,
17:51you wicked slave.
17:53So you knew,
17:54didn't you,
17:55that I was a severe man,
17:57withdrawing what I didn't deposit,
17:58and reaping what I didn't sow.
18:01Why then didn't you put my money in the bank,
18:04so that when I returned,
18:06I could collect it with interest?
18:09Then he said to his attendants,
18:11Take the mina from him,
18:13and give it to the one who has ten.
18:17But they said to him,
18:19Sir,
18:19he already has ten minas.
18:22I tell you that everyone
18:24who has been,
18:26will be given more.
18:27But from the one who does not have,
18:29even what he has,
18:31will be taken away.
18:33But as for the enemies of mine,
18:35who did not want me to be their king,
18:38bring them here,
18:39and slaughter them in front of me.
18:43After this,
18:44he continued on ahead,
18:46continuing on his way
18:47to Jerusalem.
18:51This is the word of the Lord.
18:54Thanks be to God.
19:06Now according to your word,
19:08Sovereign Lord,
19:09permit your servant to depart in peace.
19:13For my eyes have seen your salvation,
19:16that you have prepared,
19:18in the presence of all peoples,
19:20a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
19:24and for glory to your people Israel.
19:29Glory be to the Father,
19:30and to the Son,
19:31and to the Holy Spirit,
19:33as it was in the beginning,
19:35is now,
19:35and ever shall be,
19:37world without end.
19:38Amen.
19:44I believe in God,
19:46the Father Almighty,
19:48maker of heaven and earth,
19:50and in Jesus Christ,
19:51his only Son,
19:52our Lord,
19:53who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
19:57born of the Virgin Mary,
19:59suffered unto Pontius Pilate,
20:02was crucified,
20:04dead,
20:04and buried.
20:05He descended into hell.
20:08On the third day,
20:09he rose again from the dead.
20:11He ascended into heaven,
20:13and is sitting at the right hand of God,
20:16the Father Almighty.
20:18From there,
20:19he shall come to judge the living and the dead.
20:23I believe in the Holy Spirit,
20:25the Holy Catholic Church,
20:27the communion of saints,
20:29the forgiveness of sins,
20:31the resurrection of the body,
20:33and the life everlasting.
20:36Amen.
20:41The Lord be with you,
20:44and with your spirit.
20:48Let us pray.
20:52Lord, have mercy upon us.
20:55Christ, have mercy upon us.
21:00Lord, have mercy upon us.
21:06Our Father, who is in heaven,
21:10holy is your name.
21:12May your kingdom come.
21:14May your will be done on earth
21:17as it is in heaven.
21:19Give us this day
21:21our daily bread.
21:22Forgive us our trespasses,
21:24as we forgive those
21:26who trespass against us.
21:29Lead us not into temptation,
21:31but deliver us from evil.
21:34For yours is the kingdom,
21:37the power and the glory,
21:39for ever and ever.
21:41Amen.
21:46O Lord, show your mercy upon us
21:49and grant us your salvation.
21:55Protect and guide those in authority over us
22:00and mercifully hear us.
22:02And mercifully hear us when we call upon you.
22:05Endue your ministers with righteousness
22:09and make your chosen people joyful.
22:14O Lord, save your people
22:18and bless your inheritance.
22:22Give peace in our time, O Lord,
22:26because there is none other who fights for us
22:29but only you, O God.
22:33O God, make clean our hearts within us
22:37and take not your Holy Spirit from us.
22:49Let us pray.
22:52Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord,
22:56to your faithful people,
22:57pardon and peace,
23:00that they may be cleansed from all their sins
23:02and serve you with a quiet mind.
23:06Through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
23:09Amen.
23:19O God, from whom all holy desires,
23:23all good counsels and all just works proceed,
23:27give to your servants that peace
23:30which the world cannot give,
23:32that our hearts may be set to obey your commandments,
23:36and also that, by you,
23:39we, being defended from the fear of our enemies,
23:43may pass our time in rest and quietness.
23:47Through the merits of Jesus Christ, our Saviour.
23:50Amen.
23:56Lighten our darkness, we beseech you, O Lord,
23:59and by your great mercy defend us all
24:02from perils and dangers of this night.
24:06For the love of your only Son, our Saviour,
24:09Jesus Christ.
24:11Amen.
24:15Almighty God,
24:16who has given us grace at this time with one accord
24:19to make our common supplications to you
24:23and promises that when two or three are gathered together
24:26in your name,
24:28you will grant their requests.
24:31Fulfill now, O Lord,
24:33the desires and petitions of your servants
24:36as may be most beneficial for them,
24:40granting us in this world
24:42knowledge of your truth
24:44and in the world to come
24:46life everlasting.
24:49Amen.
24:52With the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ
24:54and the love of God
24:56and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit
24:58be with us all
25:00evermore.
25:01Amen.
