Leaders of the opposition INDIA bloc, including Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, have moved the Supreme Court seeking to invalidate the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, alleging irregularities and vote chori. A planned delegation to meet Chief Justice of India Suryakant did not take place, with the Chief Justice declining the meeting on grounds of judicial propriety and pointing towards established legal procedures. Opposition leaders, joined by Akhilesh Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav, Supriya Sule, and Saugata Roy, carried out a protest march demanding the resignation and accountability of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The Bharatiya Janata Party dismissed the allegations as baseless, accusing the Congress party of attacking constitutional institutions to deflect blame from recurring election defeats and labelling Rahul Gandhi a hawa hawai neta. Concurrently, tensions escalated over demonstration venues in the national capital following the Delhi Police decision to denotify Jantar Mantar as a designated protest site.

00:00The political battle over the special intensive revision of the electoral rolls
00:06are what the Congress Party and the opposition call is vote-chory.
00:11This battle has now moved from Sansat to Sadak and to the Supreme Court.
00:17Eleven opposition India Bloc leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Mallika Arjun Kargay,
00:24have now moved the Supreme Court.
00:26These are the images that you see on your television screen.
00:29They are now seeking supreme intervention.
00:33That's right, they're seeking Supreme Court's intervention to invalidate the entire SIR process.
00:41The special intensive revision of electoral rolls should be declared illegal and invalid is their demand.
00:48But there's a question that's been put to them.
00:51Can the opposition turn allegation of vote-chory into a legal case without evidence?
00:59Or vote-chory?
01:00And that's the question that the Bharatiya Janata Party has put to the Congress Party.
01:06In fact, Rahul Gandhi himself spoke of President Draupadi Murmu seeking evidence when they went and met her.
01:14When 10 members of parliament submitted a memorandum to her.
01:19So the opposition's attempts to meet the Chief Justice of India did not succeed.
01:24Chief Justice of India, Surya Khan, he made it very clear that the issue is being addressed.
01:30It is before the court and any meeting at this stage with opposition leaders would violate judicial propriety and the
01:38separation of powers.
01:40His message was clear.
01:41Use the legal route.
01:44There are remedies that are available.
01:46There are routes that are available.
01:48That's the route to take and not political delegations to meet the CGI.
01:53Rahul Gandhi has accused the Narendra Modi government of protecting the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
01:58And he's called this entire process of SIR an assault on free and fair elections in India.
02:06He said President of India sought proof of vote-chory during their meeting and said he would submit proof that
02:15he claimed he's had multiple times in the past.
02:18Now BJP has dismissed his charges as baseless.
02:21They've accused him of blaming institutions for electoral defeat, election after election, state after state, year after year.
02:30They've branded Rahul Gandhi a Hava Hawaii Neta.
02:34The government has accused him of making baseless allegations against constitutional institutions.
02:39Meanwhile, there's now another confrontation that's brewing on the streets of Delhi.
02:43The Kaukrut Janta Party, the CJP says it sought permission to carry out a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar.
02:51And they've now given the government a 24-hour ultimatum.
02:55Either that permission should be granted or the onus is on the government.
02:59But the Delhi police insists that's not possible.
03:04Jantar Mantar has now been denotified as a protest site.
03:07There are three other sites that have been designated as protest sites.
03:12The Delhi High Court has agreed to hear a plea challenging this move tomorrow.
03:16So from the Supreme Court to the streets of Delhi, the political battle over SIR is widening,
03:21the opposition demanding accountability, the BJP questioning the motives,
03:26going to the extent of saying that there are foreign forces at play here.
03:30But ultimately, it's for courts of law to decide.
03:34And this battle has now moved to the Supreme Court of India.
04:02New day, same political showdown.
