00:00All right, let's talk to Hutch.
00:09Hutch, as always, thanks for being with us.
00:11And for the defense, overall, how did that feel yesterday to have that performance?
00:20Oh, so good, man.
00:22So good.
00:23You know, it was just really happy of the way we responded, the way we played.
00:29We didn't start the game well, either, as a team.
00:33Offense went three and out.
00:34We got a touchdown.
00:35Offense went three and out again.
00:36And then we got that first stop that led to a bunch of three and outs for us on defense,
00:43which was great.
00:44But, like, yeah, I'm just really, really, really proud of the boys for fighting as a team,
00:52especially as a defense, man.
00:55Everybody, I thought, played at a high level.
00:58And, you know, obviously, there's always stuff to get better at and stuff, mistakes that
01:02were made.
01:03But, man, mistakes are a lot easier to correct when you win the game.
01:08Yeah, what was said after that first drive?
01:10It was a big, big drive for Arizona, 14 plays, 73 yards.
01:14They ate up over seven minutes.
01:16And I'm sure some of you guys are thinking, let's not go down this road again.
01:19But what do you say to each other to get you energized and come out and shut things down
01:25as much as you did on the next seven drives?
01:28Yeah, you know, it's just, I think it kind of became mentality during the week, you know,
01:35that even, look, if anything bad is happening or good, like, we're going to do this, we're
01:40in this thing together, you know.
01:42So, and we just got to keep that mentality.
01:44And, you know, you can talk about the X's and O's of what actually went on in that drive.
01:51But, man, I think it was a collective, like, wave of energy, of dudes fighting after that.
02:00So, yeah, I'm happy.
02:01What about the guys in the back end playing more man coverage and having some success?
02:06I can imagine that they felt pretty good given some of what's happened so far this year.
02:14Yeah, dude, they were, they really showed their cover skills, man.
02:18And I thought, I mean, for the most part, they did a tremendous job, you know, and doing
02:23a little bit more man coverage.
02:25It's, you ask a little bit more of them.
02:27But, man, I think, again, I do, you know, I think we got the guys, man.
02:32We just got to get them in position to make plays, and that's what we did.
02:35Yeah, what was the biggest difference going from the practice field and being able to
02:38take it to game day?
02:43You know, it was definitely, it was this week of prep from the coaches.
02:50I mean, it was a lot of, it was high stress.
02:53You know, it was a lot of pressure that Dan was putting on us, a lot of pressure that
02:58we were putting on ourselves, and just trying to raise the standard during the week was kind
03:06of the focus, and I think that resulted in a good outcome on game day.
03:11It's funny you mention that, because Dan Campbell was on our radio station on Tuesday morning,
03:16and one of the takeaways was, this could be a rough week for the Detroit Lions.
03:23And it sounds like it was.
03:25It sounds like Campbell cranked up the intensity during the week.
03:28Is that pretty accurate?
03:31Yeah.
03:31Yeah, definitely.
03:35Definitely one of the most intense times I've seen him, for sure, throughout this week.
03:41But once we made it to Saturday, it was like, look, guys, I got your back now.
03:48All right?
03:49Like, game day's going to be easy, because I'm rooting for you now.
03:55Five more quarterback sacks in the game for you guys.
03:58Yesterday gives you 20 quarterback sacks through the first five games.
04:01It leads the NFL.
04:03What's the difference to start the year this year with getting so much pressure on the
04:07quarterback and actually getting home?
04:10I just think we have a lot of great players on our D-line, man.
04:14I mean, it's DJ Longham coming along like that, like Aleem, Sky.
04:21I know I've been talking about it, but it's fun to see it come to life and see everyone
04:29really playing at such a high level right now.
04:32Hutch, I don't know if you pay attention to what is being said in our world, but for the
04:36last few years, all we've heard from, not all we've heard, but a big thing we've heard
04:40from fans is they need an edge rusher opposite a Hutch.
04:45Somebody's got to help Hutch out.
04:47Is DJ Wanham the best you've ever had on the other side of the defensive line, and what
04:53skill set makes him so effective?
04:57You know, I can't compare, because that would just do my other D-ends, like Kwon last year.
05:04It would be doing him dirty, because Kwon is a different player.
05:08But no, I mean, DJ's gotten off to such a great start, man.
05:13Yeah, it's really taking advantage of those one-on-ones is what he's doing right now, you
05:18know, so yeah, I mean, he's, it's, I love it.
05:24It's great, because if I get more attention, you know, during the games, and he starts, and
05:30he's winning his one-on-ones, then teams look at that and go, well, maybe we don't send
05:36the slides, you know, here every time.
05:38Maybe we got to switch it up, and we got to, you know, and so this is, to me, it's
05:42a win-win
05:44all the way around, man, and I'm so happy for him, and we just got to keep rushing like
05:48that, keep it up, keep playing fast.
05:50Jared said that after the game, and a game like that, that you kind of want to get out
05:54there and play the next day, because things are going so well.
05:57Do you share that same sentiment on defense, or are you like, thank God, now it's 24 hours
06:02later, I got some time to rest, because my body's killing me?
06:07Yeah, I guess Jared, yeah, Jared is a little more mental back there in the pocket.
06:13At least yesterday was, yeah, no, I'm going to need, I'm going to need a couple days for
06:19sure, if I'm going to, if I'm going to play, but no, I had fun yesterday, it was fun, it
06:24was, and we got the win, too, and with a long flight coming home, you always want to get
06:29that win.
06:30Do you ever, do you ever listen to Shep's news conferences, your defensive coordinator?
06:38I don't listen to them, but I, someone, so a couple people showed me some clips.
06:43Last, or the last week's one.
06:46He was feisty.
06:47Did that translate to you guys in the locker room?
06:50Did you sense that?
06:54You know, I'm not going to lie, I feel like Shep is always like that, and so I don't know
07:00if I can even, like, that's just kind of his personality, you know, and so when, when reporters
07:06may be asking harder questions, like, his personality is probably going to come out a
07:11little bit more, I would imagine, in that moment, so, you know, that's just kind of Shep,
07:17that's Shep in a nutshell right there, you know, he's, he speaks with strong conviction,
07:22he's, he knows, you know, he knows what he wants, and knows what he believes, and respect
07:28it, and I mean, you know, he's, it's, being a coach in the NFL is not easy, you know, it's,
07:35it's not easy, especially when, you know, things weren't really going too well those
07:40first four weeks, man, and we respond in a way like that, it always, it always feels
07:44good.
07:44There was a play yesterday where, it was Levi Ansarica got called for an unnecessary
07:49roughness for, for hitting the quarterback, and, you know, there's so much emphasis on
07:54not putting your body weight on the quarterback, it didn't look like it was all that late, he
07:59tries not to, to land on him, I thought he did a good job of that, and he gets called
08:02for it anyway, do you guys as defensive linemen, are you kind of like, we're damned if we're
08:06do, we're damned if we don't, might as well just land on him, because I'm going to get
08:09called for the late hit.
08:11Yeah, you know, I've trained myself to really, like, like, almost, like, spin off
08:17when you, you know, when you're falling to the ground with these quarterbacks, and
08:23yeah, Levi was all fired up on the field yesterday, it was, it was pretty funny, and
08:28he wouldn't stop talking crap about it for, like, two plays after, the other with, like,
08:34Brissette and stuff, so, yeah, it's, it's tough, I mean, they, they, they, they,
08:40they, you know, I get it, they try to protect the quarterbacks, and, you know, I think it's
08:44a good rule, but it's one of those things that can be so, it's like, defensive passing
08:49interference, it's like, it can be so subjective sometimes, and, like, change an outcome of
08:53a game, where it's like, you almost want something that's a little bit more black and white,
08:57you know, but, yeah.
09:00Is Brissette a whiner?
09:02Wow.
09:03Wow.
09:04Look at this!
09:05Because you dumped him out of bounds, and, and he, he's are complaining to the official,
09:09like, that's a late hit, and he was complaining about the Levi thing, and he got the call.
09:13Is he a little bit of a whiner?
09:16He's just playing the game, man, like, like, like we all do, playing the game.
09:19He's, you know, we got us from that, and I'm like, he's talking to the ref, I'm like, bro,
09:25what are you, what are you talking about?
09:26He's like, oh, I'm like, he's like, oh, I'm just trying to, like, I'm just trying to get
09:31a call, and he was laughing when he said that to me, and I was like, and so I just
09:34started
09:35laughing, too, and I'm like, look, dude, I mean, he's just, I mean, sometimes it'd be
09:40like that, you know, a lot of players, I mean, sometimes you gotta take advantage of trying
09:44to, uh, to get a call here and there, and I get it.
09:47Well, Hutch, uh, every week we solicit fan questions, we go through them and ask you the best
09:52one, and Kang, our producer behind the glass, has a question from a fan this week.
09:57All right, Hutch, this one's from, uh, Andrew and Owasso.
10:00By the way, do you know where Owasso is?
10:01That's a Kang question, actually.
10:05Owasso?
10:06No, is that, uh, I don't know, where is that?
10:09It's in Michigan somewhere, I guess.
10:11So anyways, here's this question from Andrew.
10:13Is it going north?
10:14Yeah, it's north, I think in middle of Michigan.
10:16I think it's by Lansing.
10:17Yeah, north of Lansing, something.
10:18All right, he says, or he asks, Devontae Adams has a Taco Bell in his house.
10:22What food place would you want in your house, Hutch?
10:26What do you say?
10:27Taco Bell in his house?
10:29Yeah, Devontae Adams does these commercials where he allegedly has a Taco Bell.
10:33Yeah, it's a commercial, but he, but yeah, so if you were to put one in your house, what
10:36would you put in?
10:38Wait, where would I put it, or what would you put in?
10:40What restaurant would you put in your own house?
10:44Oh, crap.
10:46All right, let me think about, ooh, you know what?
10:47Okay, I'm going to go, I got low cholesterol, so I need like a greasy burger, so I'm going
10:54to go with like Five Guys, burgers and fries.
10:57You throw one of those in the house, and once a week, I'm there for sure.
11:03Great answer.
11:04Hutch, we appreciate it as always.
11:06Thanks for joining us.
11:07We'll do it again.
11:08I don't know if we're doing it next week, because you're on a bye, so maybe next week,
11:11maybe two weeks.
11:11Correct.
11:11Either way, enjoy your time off.
11:14Good win yesterday.
11:16All right, thanks, guys.
11:17Thanks, Hutchinson.
11:17There he is, Aiden Hutchinson, joining us on Carson Anderson on 97.1.
