00:33at fourfield on sunday not having joint practices not at playing in pre-season games are you just
00:39like chomping at the bit i mean are you going crazy just waiting yeah dude we've been i've been going
00:45against panay and blake and all those guys for six weeks now and you're just like i'm done i'm ready
00:52to uh to go against somebody else at this point so um yeah i'm i'm ready you've been with this

00:59for a while and you certainly you know having grown up here know the history why is this lions team

01:05your opinion and maybe it's not but why is is this lions team in your opinion ready to finally make
01:11that step to the next level
01:15good question i think uh we've got all the right leadership in place i think from a defensive
01:21perspective we've all got a ton of faith in uh in shep this year he's coming off um his first
01:26year
01:26as a coordinator and i think he's really evolved at a high level so we have a lot of faith
01:30in him so
01:31we've got to go out there this season and uh execute and i think he's going to put us all
01:35in
01:35great positions so uh just go make a play what is it about dj wanham that uh lion fans might
01:41not
01:41understand that you've been able to uh ascertain during training camp yeah dj uh i think he's
01:50going to be a great player for us man a real great compliment on the other side you know he's
01:53plays with a lot of length you know he's uh got super long arms he's able to uh really press
01:59that
01:59pocket with the the long arm and the and the stab and um super athletic too so i'm really excited

02:05see what he does on sunday and i think it's going to be uh man i think the whole rotation
02:10really even
02:10with uh derrick moore and and the the deep hackles we got it's going to be a fun d line

02:16i was interested when a player like dj wanham comes in and you've played against him not that you
02:21lined up against him with do you guys start comparing notes does he sit down in the in the
02:26defensive line room and say well here's what i thought about your team and tell you what
02:30they thought before they got here you know what i'd like to say that but dj is one of the
02:36most
02:36like soft-spoken quietest person i've ever met really um on the team in a great way though is
02:43we we get along um awesome but he's uh i gotta i gotta pry information out of him so we'll
02:49be in
02:49the meetings and i'll be uh i'll be i'm always picking his brain trying to see uh you know because
02:54he played with a lot of great players as well and went up against a lot of great people so
02:58it is fun to pick his to pick his brain but you gotta you gotta pull it out of him

03:02are we going to uh see the uh alim mcneil that we saw a couple years ago because last year
03:08he
03:08kind of struggled coming back from the injury yeah i think uh man it's it's always tough coming
03:15back from injury you know especially you know one that he had there's just uh it's it's a lot going
03:20on physically mentally um emotionally everything so um i think he's uh he's he's back i think he's
03:28better than ever for sure aiden hutchinson with us here on 97 one we'll talk to him all
03:32season long and and you um there's a guy in your room that i swear nobody's talking about
03:37nobody brings him up nobody calls about him and whenever i look at depth charts when they're put
03:41out there he's listed as a starter i feel like tyler lacy is a giant mystery man to this fan

03:47what can you tell us about tyler oh lacy man he's uh uh he's great energy dude he's always coming

03:55um to the locker room he provides a great um just a great friend amongst all the defensive line and
04:04um his place speaks for himself i mean he's been our our big end um in base for a couple
04:09years now
04:09and he's uh he's just a monster inside man and uh but he's definitely a gentle giant off the field
04:16and um man he's he's always uh he's a great friend for sure what kind of um problems do the
04:22new
04:22orleans saints provide for you yeah man i mean they're they're they're dynamic on offense uh you
04:29know i think uh with with alvin being out um we just have to deal with etn and uh quarterback
04:35is
04:36is dynamic he can run so gotta account for that so yeah just a lot of a lot of uh
04:41dynamic pieces
04:43on offense that we gotta account for but i think you know if we just do our game do our
04:47job execute
04:48the game plan we're gonna uh we'll get the job done i want to circle back to something stony asked
04:52you about a little bit earlier what's it like for somebody with your motor to be in the preseason
04:59game just standing there on the sidelines watching it i would imagine it would drive you crazy
05:05you know i i'm honestly not the biggest fan of preseason so i'm uh i and that might yeah i
05:11don't
05:11know if that shocks you but i just uh to me like going out there because we did it a
05:16little bit
05:16when i was a rookie playing in the preseason and um any kind of production you might get
05:22or like even the defense playing well it's just kind of it doesn't really count and so it's just
05:27uh yeah i'm working my craft every day so it's um i'm always trying to get better but when when
05:32uh when you make a big play and it counts for nothing it's uh uh it's hard to get it's
05:37hard to
05:37get going for that sure speaking of uh perfecting your craft i see uh videos you've taken up golf a
05:45lot
05:45then uh you were playing with jared goff who golf's left-handed how's your game
05:51oh you know my game is uh about as inconsistent as it gets man but it's been fun opening the
05:58uh
05:58the golf ramp fourth and four this this offseason and doing some youtube videos collabing with a bunch
06:04of nfl players it's been great to get to know guys uh off the field and um man it's been
06:09a fun
06:10little offseason venture for sure but right now we're uh we're locked into it's football season
06:15now for the next uh seven months eight months however long it is there'll be time for golf after
06:19the season hopefully after a long season uh dan campbell took a totally different approach to
06:25this offseason it felt like and there were you know there was a no um the the joint practices there
06:32was really a no-nonsense all-business approach as a player what is your interpretation or how do you
06:39see that that could make a difference this season yeah i mean i'm all about it i think uh
06:45it's uh it's normal you know when you have a you have a team that we had last year we
06:51didn't make
06:51the playoffs like some stuff's got to change and um as players we make the change and as as as
06:56coaches
06:57i guess that's what he thought he had to change and i think we all have faith in that and
07:00we
07:01we trust i mean it was a tough camp very physical camp so it was it was just because we
07:05didn't have
07:05practice didn't mean we didn't get work i mean i think we got even more work um than we ever
07:10have
07:10so it's uh i thought it was very beneficial you know but um that's kind of the name of the
07:15game
07:15if it doesn't work you gotta uh you gotta change something up you know we uh evaluate and try and
07:20predict how important you know what the season's going to be like and there's a few players that you
07:25go well this guy's development's important this guy has to step up maybe one of the biggest is a guy
07:30that you go against every day in blake miller tell us a little bit about the rookie tackle and and
07:36how you evaluate his game yeah i i think what i uh respect the most about blake is
07:44if i give him a look he'll he's constantly evolving so it's it's rare when i give him a
07:50certain look that he won't recognize that in the future if i do it again and and be better for
07:55that
07:56and honestly out of a rookie that's all you can really ask for someone who can grow and learn as
08:00fast as they can so i mean i was trying to give him as many different looks as i could
08:04in training
08:05camp in order to prepare him for uh you know going against uh some of these some of these demons
08:10you
08:11got on some other teams so um yeah that's what i was trying to do and i think he was
08:15doing a great
08:15job of evolving i think he rarely makes the same mistake twice you know so i'm excited to see how
08:22he
08:22how he develops throughout the season can you give us an example of you beat him with a certain move
08:26and then later you are like okay he gets it is there something that happened in training camp
08:30you're like that's it that's exactly what i was talking like i'll change up uh yeah it might be a
08:35move and it might more be like my path uh i'll i switch stuff up a lot just when you
08:41get a lot of
08:41chip i get a lot of chippers in my direction so i have to be kind of multiple and how
08:46i attack that
08:46and um i think when i was presenting him with all those looks i may i may gotten him and
08:52then the
08:52next day i see him doing something else to that same look i was just i was giving him on
08:57a certain
08:57angle i was attacking so yeah it's good to see plus you've helped him with his yeah his hair care
09:02right yeah i know blake is the poster boy for dandruff now absolutely uh i'd be remiss in not asking
09:11you uh what you thought of the end of your alma mater's game on the other night you know what

09:39it was insane so i was uh i've actually never really seen a hail mary live like that especially
09:44at the big house i know colorado hit one on michigan back in the day but i don't think michigan
09:48has ever has ever had a successful hail mary hail mary of their own at the big house so it
